Performance/ benchmarking web mapping

Hi all,
Does anyone have any benchmarks, stress tests, performance tests on web mapping / (internet) GIS/ visualisation apps&tools - not neccesarily with Oracle Spatial as database.
Stuff like redraws per second, point selections per second, maximum concurrent users (all for a standard dataset) is what I'm looking for. Descriptions of testprotocols would be interesting as well.
thanx, Mark

  • (268625273) Q WSI-29 Can you give any performance benchmarks for WLS web services?

Q<WSI-29> Can you give any performance benchmarks for WLS web services?
A<WSI-29>: It is very difficult to quantify performance aspects of web services
since they depend on so many variables including but not limited to: backend system
processing by stateless session beans and message driven beans, size of XML SOAP
message sent, system hardware (CPU speed, parallel processing, RAM speed) and
system software (JVM type and version of WebLogic server). However, let me point
out that the EJB backend processing of requests both have the best possible scalability
within the EJB2.0 specification (both stateless session and message driven beans
can be pooled) and servlets have a proven scalable track record. Thus it should
be possible to scale your web service deployment to meet demand. The overhead
in processing XML within the servlet can be significant depending on the size
of XML data (either as a parameter or a return type). While WLS6.1 does not have
any features to address this performance concern, WLS7.0 will feature Serializer
and Deserializer classes which can be dedicated to the XML to Java and Java to
XML translation (they can also be automatically be generated from a DTD, XML Schema
    or regular JavaBean).
It is true that web services are not the fastest way to process client requests
but BEA is committed to making WebLogic server the fastest possible service provider.

  • Are there any performance benchmark tools for Flash?

I am looking to benchmark Flash on various computers that I use.  I was surprised that the performance of Adobe Flash on my Intel i5 computer running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS and IE 10 was MUCH WORSE than running on a Windows 7 Pro 32-bit on an Intel i3 computer running the same browser.
I have tried running both 32-bit IE and 64-bit IE and get the same general bad performance on the 64-bit Windows OS. I would like to find a tool to benchmark these various computers so that I can establish baseline performance while I explore finding a fix Adobe Flash on a 64-bit OS.
Can someone suggest some tools for Flash performance benchmarking? Thank you.

The best advise we can really give you is that both companies offer free trials and you should download them both and see which works best for you.  I own Parallels Desktop v6, and VMWare Fusion v3.  For me, VMWare s better for some things, but Parallels is better for most.  Depending on what you do and how you use your applications your milage may vary.
One other note to keep in mind.  Since Apple is looking to release a new OS version in the very near future, you might want to hold-off a bit on our vitualization choice just yet.  I would exect that both companies will be working on a new release for support/compatibilty of the new MacOS, so you might want to wait to see if there are any other changes that make you want to lean towards one or the other...

  • Performance of XSL Mapping in the ABAP Engine

    Hi All,
Is the performance of XSL Mapping in the ABAP Engine better than java and graphical mapping. XSLT on the java stack has performance issue handling large documents.I want to know how far XSL Mapping in the ABAP Engine performs when compared to java/graphical mapping in the context of large inputs(>1MB).
    Anticipating your valuable inputs.

  • Performance benchmarks Win XP

Does anyone know if there are any performance benchmarks available for Windows XP (via Boot Camp) running on various different Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and iMac machines?
I assume the more RAM, the greater BUS speed, the faster and more numerous the processors the better performance but I was looking for objective numbers to help me decide what system to buy.. I know that one of the PC site rated Windows on a Mac laptop very fast.

Well, I don't know that anyone has run such benchmarks, but it's logical to assume that the faster the machine the faster XP will run on a Boot Camp installation since Windows is running natively on the hardware as though it were a normal PC. What's important to you - speed or mobility? If speed then get a Mac Pro. If mobility then get a MacBook Pro.

  • Poor performance in Repository mapping test tool (7.0.12)

    Hi,
I'm just looking for some hints for performance tuning the Mapping tool in the Repository. This is our Development machine.
Seems to be significantly worse since upgrade from sps 10 to sps 12.
Every "display queue" / recompile of the map takes almost 5 minutes.
The Java stack currently has about 4gb of heap, abap 1gb.  We reallocated a large amount from abap to java which temporarily alleviated the problem (about 60% quicker), but it's back after a few days.  There is currently no possibility of adding more memory.
The problem seems to be noticable primarily with the IB, hence I'm looking for any performance tuning tips that would directly affect this.  I'm thinking that we need to concentrate on the Java stack.  I've looked at note 894509 and SAP NetWeaver Process Integration Tuning Guide and not seen anything directly related at first glance.
    I've deactivated end-to-end monitoring.
The only thing that stands out is a significant amount of activity on the disk with the sap/oracledb/oracleexec on it.  It's about 9 times greater than the amount of swap.  Two processes seem to be regularly at the top of CPU usage dw.sapPID_DVEBMGS14 and /usr/sap/PID/DVEBMG.
Hints and tips appreciated.  As I said, hardware changes are not possible at this time.
    Thanks
    James.
Yes, points will be awarded where appropriate.

Are you gacing this issue only when you  test the mapping in the IR or even in the runtime?
I have also noticed that mapping test in the tool in IR always take a long time, but as they never reflect the runtime mapping perfromance I have always ignored it.
    A few reasons might be,
    1. Low RAM on the Machine being used by you.
    2. Too Many applications!
Remember you are Connecting to the server from your IR using JWS and so the resources on your machine also matter quite a bit.
If completely off track , ignore the reply.

  • Performance of web services with XMLBeans on WLS 9

We are planning to use XMLBeans extensively for web services development on WLS. Recently another group within our company did a performance study indicating horrible performance with XMLBeans and WLS 9.2 especially when processing long requests (> 1000 xml elements). This puts in question whether XMLBeans with WLS 9.x is actually the right platform for us to build/host a large number of services.
XMLBeans is a highly regarded XML<->Java binding tool as explained in numerous past articles both on Dev2Dev and other technology websites. We also understand that it is an integral technology used by other BEA products such as WLI and Liquid Data.
We are wondering if BEA has any resources/reports on performance of web services (which uses XMLBeans) on WebLogic. Thanks.

    Hi,
We test several frameworks and find out that usually JAXB 2.0 performs better than XMLBeans, but that is not a strict rule.

  • Web map server - data in Oracle Spatial

We are searching for "web map server" which take data directly from Oracle Spatial (Locator). For this project the tools like ESRI ArcSDE, ArcIMS are too expensive. What are other product on the market? It should provide basic map navigation, spatial querying (klick on the map shows atribute data of features in active layers), serching by atributes.
    Regards,
    Sašo

Oracle's web map server product is the Application Server 10g MapViewer. See www.oracle.com/technology/products/mapviewer/index.html
For other mapping products that work with Spatial/Locator see

  • Where is Web Map setting and display in CS5?

before cs4 version, there are web map function which can set up the whole web site navegate structure. where is it in CS5?

The thing is there, it is only disabled.
Here is the procedure for WINDOWS only. I don't know the path for Mac.
First,  if you are using Windows 7, you need to make sure that you have the  "Run" command in your start menu. by Default, it is disabled. So do  this:
    1. Right-click "Start"
    2. Choose "Properties"
    3. In the "Start Menu" Tab choose "Customize".
    4. Scroll down to "Run" and put a check in that box.
You now have the Run Command
Enabling site map in Dreamweaver CS5
    1. Got to "Start > Run"
    2. Type in "regedit"
    3. Cick (expand arrow) on "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"
    4. Click (expand arrow) on "Software"
    5. Click (expand arrow) on "Adobe" folder
    6. Click on (expand arrow) "Dreamweaver CS5" (or CS4)
    7. Scroll down to "Feature Management" click once
    8. In the right window pane, double-click "SiteMap"
    9. Change "FALSE" to "TRUE"
    10. Click "Ok"
    11. Restart Dreamweaver (CS4 or CS5--whichever you edited)
Adobe  advises that you take care when doing this (i.e don't mess with  anything else and follow instructions carefully), and for obvious reasons. If you don't follow these  instructions carefully, you could accidentally do something else, forget  what you did or how you did it, and screw up your entire installation.  GO SLOW!

  • Help needed in developing web map service for mobile devices

please can any one help me(with source code if possible) for developing the web map service client for mobile devices in J2ME.

There are a couple of ways you could do this. Bluetooth communication is available on a few J2ME devices, so you could do it through that. Or you could set up a servlet on the J2SE app end and send the data over the internet (check out HttpConnection). I'm not sure of any other quick and easy methods.

  • Performance benchmarks?

    Hello,
Has anyone done any performance benchmarking on Portal Server? (Or know
where I can find such information?)
    I'm curious to know:
    1. Given iPlanet's recommended hardware, how many concurrent users does
this support with decent performance (SSL to gateway to non-SSL server)?
    2. How does the product scale...e.g. if I wanted to have 250 concurrent
gateway users (running SSL), what hardware is recommended? 500 users?
    1000 users?
    3. Has anyone tried (or does the product even support) the use of SSL
accelerator cards on the gateway machine?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Murray

    Hi.
We did some benchmarking in january, at the SUN iforce center in holland,
using iPlanet Portal Server SP2 Hotpatch3.
    We focused on measuring:
    1) Average time to log in to portal(with default channels, netlet set up) as
    a function of simultaneous users
    2) Average time to do a "standard operation" inside portal.
Our results supported the numbers from iPlanet saying thath one could have
250 simultaneous "secure" users pr CPU in this setup. (SP2 HP3)
This "guaranteed" number of simultaneous users pr CPU for iPS 3 SP3 is said
    to be increased to 1500.
    We used SUN E 220 s with 2x450 MHZ CPUs and 1 G RAM.
The performance increased remarkable when we went from gateway and server on
1 machine, to separate gateway and server.

  • Performance benchmarks within BPC

Has anyone ever performed any benchmarks with BPC?
I know there is such a wide spectrum of elements that go into benchmarking a BPC solution that most benchmarks can not easily be correlated to each other. (i.e., Platform, environment, dimensionality, hierarchies u2026) Any estimates would be a great benefit.
    Iu2019m hoping someone has performed some serious performance benchmarks such as;
u2022 Data throughput, (time to submit data such as 1000 cells per minute).
u2022 Query time, (x row by x column expansion and query).
Thanks in advance for your input and assistance!

    Hi David,
I agree with you about your point on performance benchmarks. However I don't know if you are already aware of the performance tuining guide available at:

  • Query performance for WEBI on top of BEx

    Hello Everyone,
Is there a way to get the time taken by a webi query execution on the BO side and in the BW side? Is this stat stored some where?
Also, what is the best approach to take for comparing performance between the original bex query and the WEBI on top of the Bex?
    Thanks for your help.
