Hi there,
Does anyone know of anyway to tweak the performance of this tool when using it with windows? Perhaps some jre setting??
We are using it with our oracle database (for PeopleSoft) and it just hangs all the time. I am using 1.5.0.53 of the SQL Developer tool and my java version is 1.6.0_06. My pc has 1gb ram with windows xp so I wouldn't have thought memory would be a problem, it's probably a java thing. I've noticed other tools built in java sometimes just hang as well.
Also does anyone know how to remove the prediction? When I am typing sql it will try to filter/predict the table I want to use and it's quite frustrating..
Also is there a way to automatically run the statement when opening the connection?

It seems bad that if you have an anti virus program
installed that you may suffer, after all everyone
will have that, especially (I hope) on work pc's.It seems to be a general problem with java apps.

I need to sort very large Excel files and perform other operations. How much faster would this be on a MacPro rather than my MacBook Pro i7, 2.6, 15R?

I am a scientist and run my own business. Money is tight. I have some very large Excel files (~200MB) that I need to sort and perform logic operations on. I currently use a MacBookPro (i7 core, 2.6GHz, 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3) and I am thinking about buying a multicore MacPro. Some of the operations take half an hour to perform. How much faster should I expect these operations to happen on a new MacPro? Is there a significant speed advantage in the 6 core vs 4 core? Practically speaking, what are the features I should look at and what is the speed bump I should expect if I go to 32GB or 64GB? Related to this I am using a 32 bit version of Excel. Is there a 64 bit spreadsheet that I can us on a Mac that has no limit on column and row size?

It’s funny you mentioned using Activity Monitor. I use it all the time to watch when a computation cycle is finished so I can avoid a crash. I keep it up in the corner of my screen while I respond to email or work on a grant. Typically the %CPU will hang at ~100% (sometimes even saying the application is not responding in red) but will almost always complete the cycle if I let it go for 30 minutes or so. As long as I leave Excel alone while it is working it will not crash. I had not thought of using the Activity Monitor as you suggested. Also I did not realize using a 32 bit application limited me to 4GB of memory for each application. That is clearly a problem for this kind of work. Is there any work around for this? It seems like a 64-bit spreadsheet would help. I would love to use the new 64 bit Numbers but the current version limits the number of rows and columns. I tried it out on my MacBook Pro but my files don’t fit.

This may be the solution for me. I’m OK with assembling the unit you described (I’ve even etched my own boards) but feel very bad about needing to step away from Apple products. When I started computing this was the sort of thing computers were designed to do. Is there any native 64-bit spreadsheet that allows unlimited rows/columns, which will run on an Apple? Excel is only 64-bit on their machines.

Hi SANDHYA,
You can increase the query performance by using indices too. You can search a table for data records that satisfy certain search criteria faster using an index.
An index can be considered a copy of a database table that has been reduced to certain fields. This copy is always in sorted form. Sorting provides faster access to the data records of the table, for example using a binary search. The index also contains a pointer to the corresponding record of the actual table so that the fields not contained in the index can also be read.

Acer switch 12 - poor performance + other problems.

First of all I know it's a portable device made for office work/multimedia. I have few issues: sometimes I can hear pretty loud noise coming from display, sometimes keyboard and (this mouse controlling button, forgot the name of it) can stuck resulting in endless typing or mouse moving, the last one is power button which must be pressed hard (sometimes it just doesn'twork). I could survive all of that but there is a poor performance problem. Whenever my device is in idle, clocks are on max frequency whenever i start doing someting they drop (it is not because of temp. throttling). When I was playing a game I noticed that clocks are 50% down Cpu, cpu cache, Gpu and2 cores were active, temperature was pretty okay 65 celcious. A guy from online support told me that it is because of second core kick in, so there is no need for more frequency, but from what I see the game runs terribly and a highier frequency would help. In a result google chrome is sluggish when browsing any webpage and you can feel sttutering. Windows store apps/ games are sluggish (they work better on my 3 years old smartphone). In my opinion the device acts the opposite way it should. Literally, what is going on here? Maybe I freak out a little bit.

Hmm, I'm at defaults on mine and sitting pretty much idle (Firefox and Task Manager running, 2.5G/4G of memory in use) Task Manager is reporting 0.78 to 1.26 GHz clock speed (of a reported 1.0GHz maximum, so it's either overclocking or giving invalid values). With Resource Manager active it graphs fairly steady at 80% with spikes to 100%. Could it be your monitoring package?

SG300-28 poor performance other than native vlan.

We have a single SG300-28 in L2 mode with 1.1.1.8
3 vlans
3 virtual interfaces and 1 parent interface configured on the sonic firewall
Switch(trunk allow all)-->sonic( 1 parent interface and 3 virtual IP's)
vlan 10 192.168.10.1
vlan 20 192.168.20.1
vlan 30 192.168.30.1
vlan 1 192.168.99.1 (parent interface)
Cisco switch mgmt IP 192.168.99.2
When PC connected to access port of switch with pvid ( 10 or 20 or 30) performance to internet is slow.
When PC connected to access port of switch with pvid ( 1) performance is as expected.
PC is able to connect to firewall and get DHCP configuration automatically based on the port which vlan is configured.
We connected PC directtly to firewall and performance is good irrespective whcih vlan tag was set by PC using realtek utilitiy. Based on the tag set
PC automatically got DHCP IP for that vlan from firewall. This tells us that the performance problem is isolated to Switch.
Please advise what could be done.
I will update to 1.1.2 and test out. So far this switch has been PITA.

As per your email I did within switchperformance for clients in vlan 10 and also native vlan. There is no perfromance difference.
As per setup couple of ports in access vlan 10,20,30 etc and rest in native. Port 24 which is trunked to allow all vlan is connected to Sonic FW. Please see attached ttcp results and show tech.
When I say performance to WAN is poor through firewall it means that webpage from speedtest.net is slow and other webistes like gmail load very slowly (almost unusable)

New sys-install: once bad ogl performance, other times good

i have a strange problem. after a new system-install sometimes i got a good opengl-performance, some other installs got a bad performance. i had installed the system exactly like the one before. dri is enabled etc. tuxracer has a very bad performance - no matter wether resolution - 640 or 1024 - still 0-1 fps!
has someone a idea, how to solve this?

Functional and performance testing on Forms 6.0 and higher

I want to make functional tests on GUI Oracle Forms ver. 6.0 and higher.
I'm thinking in a IBM tool called Rational Robot but it's seems not very good. HP also has this type of tool with forms support but I haven't tested it, yet.
Does Oracle have some tool like this ?

● Calculate data that cannot be calculated through a hierarchical aggregation, such as ratios
or variance analysis.
● Perform allocations from a parent entity to a list of base entities.
● Perform complex currency conversions, calculate exchange rate differences, or perform
other calculations necessary for your consolidation.
● Define formulas to dynamically calculate accounts.
● Specify the accounts in the application that support intercompany transactions.
You can write rules in a text editor, or you can use the Financial Management Rules Editor to
create rules.

ADF-JSF: Application Performance Issue

My question or set of questions will be a bit vague...I am simply not sure where to look for problem(s). So here is what I have. Application implemented with ADF-JSF (JDEV ver:10.1.3.2.0). It basically has 5 pages. Each page containes user input form, commandButton and result table. Functionally, each page is a 'search page' that returns results based on what user specified in the form. Components on each page are bound to VO that is based on EO (DB table). Tables have at least 2.5M records up to 16M. Certain indexes exist (for most common searches) to improve the performance. However, there have been performance issues found and largely they would be grouped into the following:
1. User is on page A, performs the search, goes to page B (via link) and performs other search, then goes back to A and similar search takes much longer to return results. Seems to me that this moght be related to memory. Maybe results of the previous search are cashed and it takes new search to retreive results longer as the VO cashe needs to be cleared first. Does that make sense?
2. User is on page A and then goes to B. Leaves browser for 10-20 minutes and tries to go back to A. It takes up to a minute before page reloads with the previously displayed results. I am thinking this has to be related to page lifecycle where AM tries to re-execute bindings ( I do not think it is passivation issue though). What is the best practice to control the lifecycle?
Any pointer on where to look for the solution is very welcome.

To use Tom Kyte's analogy, you are firing a gun into a room full of people hoping to hit the bad guy. You haven't seemed to have gotten any information about where the performance issues lie. It could be in the DB, network, ADF Business Components, JSF layer, other stuff monopolizing resources, etc, etc. I have ADF BC apps developed in 10.1.3.3 that run quite well.
So, I would recommend you spend some time investigating where the performance problems lie. Try turning on logging output, check machine utilization - use your investigative techniques to find the bad guy so you can then work on fixing him.

Reading user input from a form within a workflow and perform actions in workflow based on the input

Need to get input from a user based on some condition within a workflow and based on the input received continue with the workflow. It can be a form with a text box and button to which i can redirect and when user enters a value and clicks on the button
,I should come back to the workflow and perform other processing. I should also be able to manually start this workflow from VS.
Tried different approaches like initiation forms ,user input action of SP2010 etc all of these approaches either add some tasks to task list or force me to click on the workflow link to get input from a user.
Any suggestions on this?

I was looking for something like this:

<jsp:setpropertiy name"value" ....>so everytime I click the add button the values will go the mysjp.jsp file and that will set them in the javabean file. this method uses two files but I was looking for doing this in the same jsp file and not sending it to another file.

Tab control Output value to be display in other pages

Hi guys
I hava a VI using a tab control with multiple pages. The 1st page will have some calculation and give an ouput ,x.
Then i will proceed to the 2nd page to perform other action, however i need the input automatically from what i have acquired in the first page, which is x.
My problem is that i could not link up this output from the 1st page and send it to the 2nd page.
I thought it should be a reliatively simple but i am stuck in this. Please help me

Hi pengxin,
do you mean, you want to see x on all pages? If yes, then don't palce x inside the tabcontrol. Just add it to the front panel and move it with the arrow keys over the tab control.

Ereaser tool (among others) are not working in correct spot in Photoshop CC, but in CS6

I am using PS CC on Windows7 with a digital board (don´t know if that is correct english, but - with a digital pen, instead of a mouse)
When I try to erease, clone or write with the pen tool, nothing is happening where the cursor is, but instead rather far below that point.
If I use the mouse, it works well, also the digital pen could be used without any problems to perform other things as changing tools, close an image by clikcing the "x", or choos layers or whatever.
Changing to PS CS6 the problem disappears - everything works fine.
I have reset the settings by holding shift-ctrl-alt while starting the program.
Anyone who knows what this is?

Usually it turns out for tablets that aren't mainstream that they just haven't updated their drivers to work with photoshop cc.
For example, most people don't have problems with wacom tablets in photoshop cc.
One other thing that could possibly be the cause besides the tablet driver is your graphics card driver.
If in photoshop cc you go to Edit>Preferences>Performance and turn off Use Graphics Processor and then restart photoshop cc, does that make a difference?
If it does then perhaps your graphics card driver needs to be updated from the maker of the card.
(not through windows updates)

Performing two NiDAQ operations at once...

I am using NiDAQ 7.1 and a 6025E DAQ.
I am performing a simple rocket engine test.
These are my concerns so far...
1. The NiDAQ board cannot perform two operations simultaneously. What this means is that in order to operate the valve (digital out), I would have to interrupt the continous analog input scanning. This would cause a problem. I would not be recording analog inputs during, or immediately after the operation of the valve (digital out).
2. Synchronizing the operation of the valve with the continous analog input data recording. i.e What sample point in the analog input data corresponds to the instant the valve was opened/closed? I am using an accelerometer to record when the valve opens/closes.
But the interruption of operating the valve will render it useless since analog input recording will have been halted, and thus the accelerometer data will not have been recorded.
How do I operate the valve at the same time that I am continously reading analog inputs? According to your documentation, it is not possible to perform two operations on the E series at the same time. How do I overcome this issue? My analog input sampling frequency is 2KHz.
Would something like this work:
SCAN_Op(length of time before opening valve)
DIG_Line_Out(Turn on valve)
SCAN_Op(length of time before closing valve)
DIG_Line_Out(Turn off valve)
SCAN_Op(length of time to record after valve is closed)
StoreSamplesToFile()
What is the amount of time between SCAN_Op() returning, calling DIG_OUT_Line() and calling SCAN_Op()? i.e. how many samples will I miss due to stopping and starting analog input recording using SCAN_Op()?

I think you are still slightly confused on what Traditional NI-DAQ is capable of doing. The E-Series device is capable of doing analog input, analog output, digital input, digital output, and counter operations all at the same time. The problem with the Traditional NI-DAQ driver (not DAQmx) is that it is not a truly multithreaded driver.
Now what does this mean?
Assume you have two threads operating at the same time. One is performing an analog input and the other is performing a digital output. If the analog input thread is executing the AI_Read function then it is waiting for the device to fill the buffer with the number of samples that you have requested and then it will return the array of data to your program.
If the Dig_Out_Lin
e function tries to execute while the AI_Read is waiting for the data then the DIG_Out_Line function will be blocked until the AI_Read completes. You can minimize the effect by reading smaller chunks of data or placing small wait functions in your analog input while loop so the processor and driver can perform other tasks.
This will not change the analog input process and you will not miss any data points if you have it configured for a continuous analog input. The data is always being transferred from the DAQ device to the buffer. You are just reading from that buffer when you execute the read functions.
The best solution to your problem would be to use NI-DAQmx. This driver is multithreaded and the analog input will not block the digital output thread. There should be several examples that are installed for ANSI C on your hard driver at C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\DAQmx ANSI C Dev.

FCE3 and other programs

Hi everyone,
Is there any reason why I wouldn’t want to have my computer performing other tasks in other programs while I’m simultaneously working in FCE3? Things such as small programs running in the background, family members streaming my iTunes or downloading something off me from our in home network, or me even playing iTunes for that matter.
In almost all other applications I always have many things open at once. For some reason when I go to FCE, I close everything else. Other than the obvious slow down in performance is there any other reason it’s a good idea to do this? For example, does it put a strain on the hard drive, cause the FCE software to get buggy and crash or anything like that?

I don't think it's such a big deal when you are merely editing (you know, cut, roll/ripple, move etc), except for a possible reduction in RT capability or a glitch when you are applying a filter or effect. More significantly, when you are capturing, rendering or creating an output movie, you don't want the cpu, i/o or network controller distracted by anything else, because you run a high risk of dropped frames. And there is always the opportunity for something to crash at just the wrong moment the more stuff you have running simultaneously.

IMac 20", 128 meg of 256 meg, what does it mean for performance?

I was always a firm believer that generally vram didn't play a huge part in performance, other than it's clock rate obviously, it just allowed you to run higher resolution. I've heard some claim the 256 meg version has a noticeable speed improvement.
Questions are: What is the clock rate of the processor and memory in each version? I'm mainly curious if they are the same, but am also curious if it's the same clock rate as in Intel laptops. I know the Macbook pro is tuned down for battery life from the factory, and have heard rumors the iMac is also.
Other question is, is there a performance difference in gaming at native resolution and lower for the 20" iMac? And if so, how much are we talking? 52fps as opposed to 50fps, or something more substantial?

I have the 256MB vram version and I can tell you that the stock speed of the x1600 is 400mhz core/400 mhz memory. I do not know what the stock speed is of the 128 MB version. The 17", the speeds are closer to 300/300.
