Performance Problem Database Server on Solaris 10 5/08 (Update 5)  v890 Box

Hello,
I am having performance problems on Solaris 10 5/08 (Update 5) Production server below I have mentioned the details information about the system and some command “iostat” and “vmstat” reports:

  • HT1222 Is anyone having problems accessing server with iPhone 4S once updated to iOS7?

I can't reach the server now that I've updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 7. Interestingly, I am using my iPad 2, which was updated at the same time, to post this! Anyone else having server issues with updates...and, in particular, updates of iPhone 4Ss and iOS7? Thank you!

Yes. I had an iPhone 3G and when upgraded to 6.1 the bluetooth connectivity failed progressively and eventually the phone just wouldn't connect. I broke and reestablished the pairing am few times and each time it would work for a while then disconnect to the extent I thought the bluetooth hardware in the car was failing. I then got an iPhone 5 and the same issue remained. In the last few days I've paired an old Blackberry with the car kit to rule out the BMW hardware. Blackberry is fine so it has to be iOS incompatibility.

  • Exadata database server on solaris

Is Solaris OS running on Exadata DB server is of big endian or little endian? Need this answer to decide on endian conversion requirement while migrating to exadata.

    Hi Tycho,
i don' think he has a solaris exadata. he just want's to know if he gets one whether he can migrate direct big endian to big endian. Unfortunately endianness is a proerly of the chip architecture and not of the OS hence intel x86 chips have always been little endian unlike any of the risc architecture chips.
I think the only big endian intel chips were probably the xscale, i860 Intel i860 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ,i960 and itaniums.
See Endianness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for more endian goodness

  • TMG - problem with server that is unable to update the configuration

I use Windows server 2008 EBS and all servers are virtual and instaled on ESXi host. Forefront is instaled on secure server. On basic configuration the firewall in runing but the CSS and adam are not in sync. Even on a small change in rules the firewall goes in lockdown mode. Even if a start the service in firewall goes in lockdown mode in 5 minutes. When i change the rule to basic settings the firewall start to work ok. I rapair CSS and now the CSS and ADAM are in sync but again when i change even a letter in a firewall rule, firewall goes in lockdown mode in the moitoring the configuration is unable to update in is not in sync any more. And now if a restart the server the configuration is also unable to update and is not in sync. Also it show that the last time he was synced in 19.12.1999 ?????
I am working on this problem for weeks and i cant find the solution. Is there a problem with CSS or ADAM?
    I would apritiate any help!
    Thanks!
    Joze

I have the same problem, I have an array with NLB working properly, buy, without any reason I can notice that configuration status is in UPDATING, so, I have to apply the maintenance and patch procedure to restart the server and to recover from this state,
somebody knows what can I do?
In the other hand, I´d wish also to know if there is any particular alert I can enable to send email alert and then to schedule the restart.
    thx!

  • Performance problem with ojdbc14.jar

    Hi,
We are having performance problem with ojdbc14.jar in selecting and updating (batch updates) entries in a table. The queries are taking minutes to execute. The same java code works fine with classes12.zip ans queries taking sub seconds to execute.
We have Oracle 9.2.0.5 Database Server and I have downloaded the ojdbc14.jar from Oracle site for the same. Tried executing the java code from windows 2000, Sun Solaris and Opteron machines and having the same problem.
Does any one know a solution to this problem? I also tried ojdbc14.jar meant for Oracle 10g, that did not help.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Yuva

My code is doing some thing which might be working well with classes12.zip and which does not work well with ojdbc14.jar? Any general suggestions to make the code better, especially for batch updates.
But for selecting a row from the table, I am using index columns in the where cluase. In the code using PreparedStatement, setting all the reuired fields. Here is the code. We have a huge index with 14 fields!!. All the parameters are for where clause.
    if(longCallPStmt == null) {

    + GeneralUtility.formatDate(cdrAgg.time_hour, "MM/dd/yy HH")
    +" tcdragg entry in "+(end_time - start_time)+" msecs");
    } finally {
    GeneralUtility.closeResultSet(rs);
    GeneralUtility.closeStatement(pstmt);
Why that code works well for classes12.zip (comes back in around 10 msec) and not for ojdbc14.jar (comes back in 6-7 minutes)?
    Please advise.

  • Significant difference in response times for same query running on Windows client vs database server

I have a query which is taking a long time to return the results using the Oracle client.
When I run this query on our database server (Unix/Solaris) it completes in 80 seconds.
When I run the same query on a Windows client it completes in 47 minutes.
Ideally I would like to get a response time equivalent on the Windows client to what I get when running this on the database server.
In both cases the query plans are the same.
The query and plan is shown below :
    {code}
    SQL> explain plan
      2  set statement_id = 'SLOW'
      3  for
      4  SELECT DISTINCT /*+ FIRST_ROWS(503) */ objecttype.id_object
      5  FROM documents objecttype WHERE objecttype.id_type_definition = 'duotA9'
      6  ;
    Explained.
    SQL> select * from table(dbms_xplan.display('PLAN_TABLE','SLOW','TYPICAL'));
    PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT
    | Id  | Operation          | Name      | Rows  | Bytes |TempSpc| Cost (%CPU)|
    |   0 | SELECT STATEMENT   |           |  2852K|    46M|       | 69851   (1)|
    |   1 |  HASH UNIQUE       |           |  2852K|    46M|   153M| 69851   (1)|
    |*  2 |   TABLE ACCESS FULL| DOCUMENTS |  2852K|    46M|       | 54063   (1)|
    {code}
Are there are configuration changes that can be done on the Oracle client or database to improve the response times for the query when it is running from the client?
The version on the database server is 10.2.0.1.0
The version of the oracle client is also 10.2.0.1.0
I am happy to provide any further information if required.
    Thank you in advance.

I have a query which is taking a long time to return the results using the Oracle client.
When I run this query on our database server (Unix/Solaris) it completes in 80 seconds.
When I run the same query on a Windows client it completes in 47 minutes.
There are NO queries that 'run' on a client. Queries ALWAYS run within the database server.
A client can choose when to FETCH query results. In sql developer (or toad) I can choose to get 10 rows at a time. Until I choose to get the next set of 10 rows NO rows will be returned from the server to the client; That query might NEVER complete.
You may get the same results depending on the client you are using. Post your question in a forum for whatever client you are using.

  • Sqlplus to connect to remote oracle database server

    Hi,
I have oracle 10g database server on solaris 10 and I usually connect using my solaris account and run sqlplus on the server itself. this works !
I have downloaded and installed oracle instant client for solaris 64 and I can run sqlplus command but I am confused on what should be the syntax on the command to connect to remote solaris 10 databse server where I have both system and oracle account.
I have tried sqlplus help but still I could not get correct sysntax which could be used to authenticate myself to oracle server.
    I tried
    sqlplus user@hostname:1512/SID
then it asked for password but when I typed password and pressed enter, it gave some error
but it again asked for username so I type user@SID and then password prompt - typed password and this works!
so I don't understand what should be the correct syntax so that in the first attempt only I am able to connect.
if possible please give the exact command with realworld examples,(I have tried with sqlplus -help already)
    Thanks in advance.

wonder what if I did not have tnsnames.ora on the client machine, how will be the syntax? You generally need (or at least strongly want) a tnsnames.ora file on the client machine.
    - You could configure Oracle Internet Directory and let that product provide TNS alias resolution for the organization (similar to setting up DNS for a local network).
    - Many tools (I haven't personally tried SQL*Plus and it may be version dependent) allow you to specify the entire TNS alias from the tnsnames.ora file (i.e. everything after the abcd.domain.com = entry) but that is hugely cumbersome to type
    - Depending on the Oracle client version, the sqlnet.ora file, the complexity of your configuration (i.e. if you are trying to use more sophisticated features like failover), you may be able to use the EZConnect syntax
sqlplus username/password@host:port:SID/service_nameWhere host is the server that the database is running on, port is the port the listener is listening on (i.e. 1521 by default) and SID/service_name is the SID or service name you're trying to connect to.

  • (new?) performance problem using jDriver after a Sql Server 6.5 to 2000 conversion

    Hi,
This is similar - yet different - to a few of the old postings about performance
problems with using jdbc drivers against Sql Server 7 & 2000.
    Here's the situation:
I am running a standalone java application on a Solaris box using BEA's jdbc driver
to connect to a Sql Server database on another network. The application retrieves
data from the database through joins on several tables for approximately 40,000
unique ids. It then processes all of this data and produces a file. We tuned
the app so that the execution time for a single run through the application was
24 minutes running against Sql Server 6.5 with BEA's jdbc driver. After performing
a DBMS conversion to upgrade it to Sql Server 2000 I switched the jDriver to the
Sql Server 2000 version. I ran the app and got an alarming execution time of
5hrs 32 min. After some research, I found the problem with unicode and nvarchar/varchar
and set the "useVarChars" property to "true" on the driver. The execution time
for a single run through the application is now 56 minutes.
56 minutes compared to 5 1/2 hrs is an amazing improvement. However, it is still
over twice the execution time that I was seeing against the 6.5 database. Theoretically,
I should be able to switch out my jdbc driver and the DBMS conversion should be
invisible to my application. That would also mean that I should be seeing the
same execution times with both versions of the DBMS. Has anybody else seen a
simlar situation? Are there any other settings or fixes that I can put into place
to get my performance back down to what I was seeing with 6.5? I would rather
not have to go through and perform another round of performance tuning after having
already done this when the app was originally built.
    thanks,
    mike

    Mike wrote:
    Joe,
This was actually my next step. I replaced the BEA driver with
the MS driver and let it run through with out making any
configuration changes, just to see what happened. I got an
execution time of about 7 1/2 hrs (which was shocking). So,
(comparing apples to apples) while leaving the default unicode
property on, BEA ran faster than MS, 5 1/2 hrs to 7 1/2 hrs.
I then set the 'SendStringParametersAsUnicode' to 'false' on the
MS driver and ran another test. This time the application
executed in just over 24 minutes. The actual runtime was 24 min
16 sec, which is still ever so slightly above the actual runtime
against SS 6.5 which was 23 min 35 sec, but is twice as fast as the
56 minutes that BEA's driver was giving me.
I think that this is very interesting. I checked to make sure that
there were no outside factors that may have been influencing the
runtimes in either case, and there were none. Just to make sure,
I ran each driver again and got the same results. It sounds like
there are no known issues regarding this?
We have people looking into things on the DBMS side and I'm still
looking into things on my end, but so far none of us have found
anything. We'd like to continue using BEA's driver for the
support and the fact that we use Weblogic Server for all of our
online applications, but this new data might mean that I have to
switch drivers for this particular application.Thanks. No, there is no known issue, and if you put a packet sniffer
between the client and DBMS, you will probably not see any appreciable
difference in the content of the SQL sent be either driver. My suspicion is
that it involves the historical backward compatibility built in to the DBMS.
It must still handle several iterations of older applications, speaking obsolete
versions of the DBMS protocol, and expecting different DBMS behavior!
Our driver presents itself as a SQL7-level application, and may well be treated
differently than a newer one. This may include different query processing.
Because our driver is deprecated, it is unlikely that it will be changed in
future. We will certainly support you using the MS driver, and if you look
in the MS JDBC newsgroup, you'll see more answers from BEA folks than
    from MS people!
    Joe
    >
    >
    Mike
The next test you should do, to isolate the issue, is to try another
    JDBC driver.
MS provides a type-4 driver now, for free. If it is significantly faster,
    it would be
interesting. However, it would still not isolate the problem, because
    we still would
need to know what query plan is created by the DBMS, and why.
    Joe Weinstein at BEA
PS: I can only tell you that our driver has not changed in it's semantic
    function.
It essentially send SQL to the DBMS. It doesn't alter it.

  • SAP Performance Problem with Oracle 10 on Sun SPARC T5240 server

    Dear Friends,
We have a performance problem after migrating our SAP ERP 6.0 basis system. We moved to new servers a month ago.
According to SAP EarlyWatchAlert Report, CPU response time is too high, altough CPU utilization is never more than 5%,
    The current system is :
    Database server : Sun SPARC Enterprise T5240 Server - 2 CPU´s with 6 core, 8 thread, 1.2 Ghz 32 GB RAM
and we use another identical configured server as an application server.
Database is Oracle 10.2.0 and operating system is Solaris 10.
The problem is average CPU response time is 450 ms, and max. CPU load is %5 percent.
Pre-migration configuration with old servers, we had CPU response : 150 ms and max CPU load: 50%.
    Old configuration : 2 X HP rp3440, 2 X PA 8800 CPU (2 core, 1.0 GHz).
Have you got any experience with a similar situation, which setting might be wrong for not fully utilizing server CPU´s?
or do you know any similar configuration for benchmark?
    Thanks in advance
    Uzan

Our organization upgraded an application - The vendor had originally suggested a T2000. When we finally migrated onto it, the performance was worse than the older version of the application. The vendor hadn't yet tested the combination of T2000 and 10.2 with their application when they had made that hardware recommendation, they subsequently revised their recommendations. We ended up with an M4000.
The application performance, IMHO, still stinks. But that's because it's a java based application written for database independence.
The interesting item to note here, is that in the application teams 'selective' testing - everything worked fine. When the testing was extended to include users who didn't follow the 'test plan', they found performance begin to tank. Then with more users, more testing, they found that the T2000 was not going to perform well. The test plan by the apps team was not sufficient to find the issues, and they did not include any load testing!

  • Performance problems loading an XML file into oracle database

    Hello ODI Guru's,
I am trying to load and XML file into the database after doing simple business validations. But the interface takes hours to complete.
    1. The XML files are large in size >200 Mb. We have an XSD file for the schema definition instead of a DTD.
    2. We used the external database feature for loading these files in database.
The following configuration was used in the XML Data Server:
    jdbc:snps:xml?f=D:\CustomerMasterData1\CustomerMasterInitialLoad1.xml&d=D:\CustomerMasterData1\CustomerMasterInitialLoad1.xsd&re=initialLoad&s=CM&db_props=oracle&ro=true
    3. Now we reverse engineer the XML files and created models using ODI Designer
    4. Similar thing was done for the target i.e. an Oracle database table as well.
    5. Next we created a simple interface with one-to-one mapping from the XSD schema to the Oracle database table and executed the interface. This execution takes more than one hour to complete.
    6. We are running ODI client on Windows XP Professional SP2.
    7. The Oracle database server(Oracle 10g 10.2.0.3) for the target schema as well as the ODI master and work repositories are on the same machine.
    8. I tried changing the following properties but it is not making much visible difference:
    use_prepared_statements=Y
    use_batch_update=Y
    batch_update_size=510
    commit_periodically=Y
    num_inserts_before_commit=30000
I have another problem that when I set batch_update_size to value greater that 510 I get the following error:
    java.sql.SQLException: class org.xml.sax.SAXException
    class java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException said -32413
    at com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.xml.v.a(v.java)
The main concern is why should the interface taking so long to execute.
Please send suggestions to resolve the problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Best Regards,
    Nikunj

Approximately how many rows are you trying to insert?
One of the techniques which I found improved performance for this scenario was to extract from the xml to a flat file, then to use SQL*LOADER or external tables to load the data into Oracle.

  • MS SQL Server 2008 performance problem

We use TopLink 10.1.3.5 to connect to MS SQL Server 2008.
What we are seeing is that when a query is being run by TopLink a lot of cursors open up and remain open. Our database CPU usage goes up and it affects the whole application.
Our DBA took a look at it and said the database shows FETCH_APICURSOR* being used for select statements.
Is there a way to tell TopLink not to use cursors for queries?
    Thanks.

Can you pin point a particular TopLink query tied to the " FETCH_APICURSOR* " call in the app and post how it is being created?
My guess is that the application is specifying the TopLink query object to return a cursor or stream and not closing it in all cases, or keeping them open for a long period - did you say they were leaking, or is it just that a large number are open at a time leading to performance problems?
This streams+cursors are described in the TopLink docs here
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/b32441/qryadv.htm#CJGJBHGJ
    or the 10g docs here:
    http://sqltech.cl/doc/oas10gR3/web.1013/b13593/qryadv010.htm
If this is the case, you might want to use a different strategy such as pagination instead of cursors, described here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/web.1111/b32441/optimiz.htm#CHDIBGFE

  • Event ID 218 Copy of database 'Mailbox Database'- experienced a performance problem

    Hi,
We have 16 GB of RAM for EXchange 2010 and 4 Processor and using iSCSI Starwind LUN.
    Event ID : 218
    Event Source : ExchangeStoreDB
    Event Category :Database Recovery
the copy of database 'Mailbox Database - NYM' on this server experienced a performance problem. Failover returned the following
error: here is only one copy of this mailbox database (Mailbox Database - NYM). Automatic recovery is not available.
It occurs specially when the exchange backup start ; we are using window backup for taking exchange backup
I can see warnning of ESE below the event 218 - Information Store (3912) Mailbox Database - NYM: A request to write to the file "D:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0959355037\Mailbox Database 0959355037.edb" at

    Also,
    1. How can I enable verbose logging to expert level for exchange MailboxDatabase.
    2. What type performace counter need to be set for exchange database in Performance Monitor
    Any Help ?
    Thanks
    Prakash

We had the same issue on our mbx server with Exchange 2010 Ent SP3, Win Svr 2008 R2 SP1 running on VMware v5.1 with Exchange dbs mounted to the VM via iSCSI LUNs on our NetApp SAN.
We escalated the ticket, and the Microsoft Exchange escalation team stated that the EIDs of the database corruption and automatic recovery seem to point to a hardware issue.  And, they told us not to panic and that there was no need to rebuild the environment
and migrate the databases immediately.  They instead asked us to focus all our efforts on solving the iSCSI environment issues, since each Exchange EID db corruption/ autorecovery would be preceded by some type of corresponding iSCI System EID.
We hence opened tickets with MS Storage Team and with NetApp support and worked on this ticket with input from all 3 groups.
After about a month an a half of troubleshooting & trial error- with tickets open with NetApp, MS Storage Team, and MS Exchange team, we finally seem to have applied a configuration change that worked.
NetApp support referred us to the following article relating to VMware:
    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2039495
So, per NetApp support and MS Storage team, do the following:
    1.    Manually dismount Exchange Databases on the mailbox server.
    2.    Open Device Manager, Network Adapters, VMXNET3 Ethernet Adapter #3, Properties
    3.    Change Small RX Buffers from the default 512 to the maximum 8192 using the drop down selector.
    4.    Change the RX Ring #1 from the default 1024 to the maximum of 4096 using the drop down selector.
    5.    Click OK and save the change.
    6.    Re-mount the Exchange Databases
And, to our surprise, this seems to have done the trick.  It seems like the issue is an iSCSI-related NIC setting all along.
    Thanks,
    Detrich

  • Interactive report performance problem over database link - Oracle Gateway

    Hello all;
This is regarding a thread Interactive report performance problem over database link that was posted by Samo.
The issue that I am facing is when I use Oracle function like (apex_item.check_box) the query slow down by 45 seconds.
query like this: (due to sensitivity issue, I can not disclose real table name)
    SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,b.col3)
    , a.col1
    , a.col2
    FROM table_one a
    , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND a.col4 = 100
    AND b.col5 = a.col5
table_one and table_two are remote tables (non-oracle) which are connected using Oracle Gateway.
Now if I run above queries without apex_item.checkbox function the query return or response is less than a second but if I have apex_item.checkbox then the query run more than 30 seconds. I have resolved the issues by creating a collection but it’s not a good practice.
I would like to get ideas from people how to resolve or speed-up the query?
Any idea how to use sub-factoring for the above scenario? Or others method (creating view or materialized view are not an option).
    Thank you.
    Shaun S.

    Hi Shaun
Okay, I have a million questions (could you tell me if both tables are from the same remote source, it looks like they're possibly not?), but let's just try some things first.
By now you should understand the idea of what I termed 'sub-factoring' in a previous post. This is to do with using the WITH blah AS (SELECT... syntax. Now in most circumstances this 'materialises' the results of the inner select statement. This means that we 'get' the results then do something with them afterwards. It's a handy trick when dealing with remote sites as sometimes you want the remote database to do the work. The reason that I ask you to use the MATERIALIZE hint for testing is just to force this, in 99.99% of cases this can be removed later. Using the WITH statement is also handled differently to inline view like SELECT * FROM (SELECT... but the same result can be mimicked with a NO_MERGE hint.
Looking at your case I would be interested to see what the explain plan and results would be for something like the following two statements (sorry - you're going have to check them, it's late!)
    WITH a AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_one),
    b AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_two),
    sourceqry AS
    (SELECT  b.col3 x
           , a.col1 y
           , a.col2 z
    FROM table_one a
        , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND   a.col4 = 100
    AND   b.col5 = a.col5)
    SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,x), y , z
    FROM sourceqry
    WITH a AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_one),
    b AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_two)
    SELECT  apex_item.checkbox(1,x), y , z
    FROM table_one a
        , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND   a.col4 = 100
AND   b.col5 = a.col5If the remote tables are at the same site, then you should have the same results. If they aren't you should get the same results but different to the original query.
We aren't being told the real cardinality of the inners select here so the explain plan is distorted (this is normal for queries on remote and especially non-oracle sites). This hinders tuning normally but I don't think this is your problem at all. How many distinct values do you normally get of the column aliased 'x' and how many rows are normally returned in total? Also how are you testing response times, in APEX, SQL Developer, Toad SQLplus etc?
Sorry for all the questions but it helps to answer the question, if I can.
    Cheers
    Ben

  • RMAN duplicate target database from active database - performance problem

Hello. I’m running into a major performance problem when trying to duplicate a database from a target located inside our firewall to an auxiliary located outside our firewall. Both target and auxiliary are located in the same equipment room just on different subnets. Previously I had the auxiliary located on the same subnet as the target behind the firewall and duplicating a 4.5T database took 12 hours. Now with the auxiliary moved outside the firewall attempting to duplicate the same 4.5T database is estimated to exceed 35 hours. The target is a RAC instance using ASM and so is the auxiliary. Ping, tnsping, traceroutes to and from target and auxiliary all indicate no problem or latency. Any ideas on things to consider while hunting for this elusive performance decrease?
    Thanks in advance.

It would obviously appear network related. Have you captured any network/firewall metrics? Are all components set to full duplex? Would it be possible to take the firewall down temporarily and then test the throughput? Do you encounter any latency if you were to copy a large file across the subnets?
You may want to check V$RMAN_BACKUP_JOB_DETAILS, V$BACKUP_SYNC_IO or V$BACKUP_ASYNC_IO when the backup is running.
