PerformanceLogsToBeProcessed Logs not truncating

hi there,
On my Exchange servers, all is ok however my Diagnostics folder these logs are always filling up, where can I check retention thresholds??
\PerformanceLogsToBeProcessed
Thanks
pjmartins

Hi,
Please follow these steps to set Maximum root path size for ExchangeDiagnosticsPerformanceLog under \PerformanceLogsToBeProcessed folder.
In Administrative Tools, open Performance Monitor. Expand Data Collector Sets and click
User Defined .
In the console pane, right-click ExchangeDiagnosticsPerformanceLog and click
Data Manager.
On the Data Manager tab, choose Maximum root path size
and set the size you want to configure.
Click OK.
Maximum root path size: The maximum size of the data directory for the Data Collector Set, including all subfolders. If selected, this maximum path size overrides the Minimum free disk and Maximum folders limits, and previous data will be deleted according
to the Resource policy that you choose when the limit is reached.

  • SQL Server transaction log not truncating in simple recovery model mode

The transaction log for our SQL Server database is no longer truncating when it gets to the restricted file growth limit set by the autogrowth settings. Previously - as expected - it would reach this limit and then truncate allowing further entries. Now
it stays full and the application using it shuts down. We are using 2008 R2 and the recovery model is set to simple. Is this a known behaviour / fault which can be resolved ? Thanks.

As already suggested check wait type in log_reuse_wait_desc from sys.databases and open transaction on the database.
Also, check long running SPIDs are waiting for from sys.sysprocesses from wait_type column
0 = Nothing - What it sounds like.. Shouldn't be waiting
1 = Checkpoint - Waiting for a checkpoint to occur. This should happen and you should be fine - but there are some cases to look for here for later answers or edits.
2 = Log backup - You are waiting for a log backup to occur. Either you have them scheduled and it will happen soon, or you have the first problem described here and you now know how to fix it
3 = Active backup or restore - A backup or restore operation is running on the database
4 = Active transaction - * There is an active transaction that needs to complete (either way -
ROLLBACK or COMMIT) before the log can be backed up. This is the second reason described in this answer.
5 = Database mirroring Either a mirror is getting behind or under some latency in a high performance mirroring situation or mirroring is paused for some reason
6 = Replication - There can be issues with replication that would cause this - like a log reader agent not running, a database thinking it is marked for replication that no longer is and various other reasons. You can also see this reason and it is
perfectly normal because you are looking at just the right time, just as transactions are being consumed by the log reader
7 = Database snapshot creation You are creating a database snapshot, you'll see this if you look at just the right moment as a snapshot is being created
8 = Log Scan I have yet to encounter an issue with this running along forever. If you look long enough and frequently enough you can see this happen, but it shouldn't be a cause of excessive transaction log growth, that I've seen.
9 = An AlwaysOn Availability Groups secondary replica is applying transaction log records of this database to a corresponding secondary database

  • Why is the transaction log file not truncated though its simple recovery model?

My database is simple recovery model and when I view the free space in log file it shows 99%. Why doesn't my log file truncate the committed
data automatically to free space in ldf file? When I shrink it does shrink. Please advice.

If log records were never deleted(truncated) from the transaction log it wont show as 99% free.Simple recoveyr model
Log truncation automatically frees space in the logical log for reuse by the transaction log and thats what you are seeing. Truncation wont change file size. It more like
    log clearing, marking
parts of the log free for reuse.
As you said "When I shrink it does shrink" I dont see any issues here. Log truncation and shrink file is 2 different things.

  • Event viewer filtered log not exported correctly

    Hi all,
I have a very strange problem, or better, I'm missing something.
I can open the event viewer and there are many events in there (45'000). I can filter for the last 7 days and this shows me only 1925 events which is correct.
Now, if I click on SAVE FILTERED LOG FILE AS, I can save the file in XML or TXT format (or others). It's not important the format because the export is incorrect! What I mean is that once the file has been exported to a TXT or others file's format, it contains
just some events, in this case maybe 50-60 events, not more! The strange thing is that in that file I can see ONLY the events from the most recent day in the filter (right now the 14 of june).
Now the funny part: if I save THE SAME LOG as .XML, it doesn't show all the events, but more than the TXT file (in this case, it shows until the 2nd of june), but the last event on the filtered event viewer, is on 13 may.
I hope somebody can help me, and excuse me for my explanation.

    Hi ripp3r,
    Thank you for your post.
I test to save event log following your description with same result. When I save log to evtx format file, the log show correctly.
Then I find KB2417105 (for Windows 2008) to express that logs are truncated because the saving event log operation is not synchronized appropriately with the fetching-event operation.
When I installed the KB2417105, event log saved to txt file successful.
If your server OS is Windows 2008 R2, please install
    KB981466.
If there are more inquiries on this issue, please feel free to let us know.

  • Looking for a terminal that does not truncate lines when resized

I am a huge fan of tiling window managers in general and have used dwm exclusively for over a year now. One thing that drives me crazy though is that when I switch a terminal window from being the primary window to a secondary and then back again, all of the lines are truncated to the smaller width. If I am watching a log file for example, this makes the previous output totally unreadable. Does anyone have a solution for this? Is there a way to make the terminal not truncate the lines if resized to a smaller width?
    Thanks!

  • MV logs getting truncated

I am trying to setup Master to Materialized view(Snapshot) replication and Materailzed view logs getting truncated when I create MV at Snapshot site. Is there any way to prevent truncating MV logs at master site while creating MV at sanpshot site?
Here are steps that I perforemd, Initally I made two copy of database one as master and other is Snpshot with unique global name.
    At Master site:
    1. MV logs created.
    2. Some DML happned at Master site, MV logs are populated.
    Snapshot(MV) site:
    1. MV created using prebuilt table option.
then I checked on Maste site MV logs are truncated but DML that happened in step 2 at Master site that are missing at Snapshot site.
Is there any way to prevent truncating MV logs at master site while creating MV at sanpshot site?
    Thanks.
    Pravin

This is a restriction of the prebuilt table "At registration time, the table must reflect the materialization of a subquery." Even if you could prevent the snapshot log from getting truncated (i.e. by creating a second snapshot against the same master table), the snapshot you created on prebuilt still will NOT refresh those records. As far as the snapshot log is concerned, once you create the snapshot with prebuilt, it must be consistent. The trick is, you have to keep the users from updating the master table until you have issued the create snapshot command.

    Welcome to the forum Oreckel!
The best way to work with FCP's media files is to not overthink it. It's all done from the "Scratch Disk" settings. Just select a DRIVE for media captures and renders to go to. FCP handles the rest. It creates a folder called "Capture Scratch", another called "Renders" and a third called "Audio Renders". In each of these folders it creates a folder for each project file containing the media that is associated with that particular project, and it names these folders the same as your project files' names. Couldn't be easier.
Autosave Vaults, Waveforms, and Thumbnails should be kept on your startup disk in your documents folder. You probably already have one there named "Final Cut Pro Documents" If it's there just select the Documents folder and FCP will put these three folders in the one named "Final Cut Pro Documents".

    Hi,
Its known bug and it can be done by below methods,
    Method1:
If you enabled loglevel for each users wise it may be override with below place also can you confirm both places.
    enabled Tools-->Options-->Repository-->
System log level by default will be 0 just try to increase to 2 or 3 and save it.
    Method1:
by each report wise enabling loglevel
try putting the below syntax in prefix section of advanced tab.
    SET VARIABLE LOGLEVEL=2,DISABLE_CACHE_HIT=1;
It should generate the log with database sql as well.
    Method 3:
    Create Session variable(LOGLEVEL) with initblock
in your init block --> datasource place put it like below query
    select 3 from IW_POSITION
Note:just point any existing physical table from u r RPD.
Then try to save it and test it.

  • Error in integration Log not found (in main memory)

    Hello Experts,
We are facing an error at the moment  when we send a contract from CLM to the ERP, we run the transaction BBP_ES_ANALYZE and the error that we got is Log not found (in main memory).
We already reviewed all master data integration, any other suggestions?
Also, this integration was working fine at the beginning, but Basis team applied an update to our ERP system and after this it generates this error.
    thanks in advance
    Kind Regards

    Hi,
Can you check the settings as per blog Debugging MA publish to ERP?
Unless the activate log is set, BBP_ES_ANALYSE will not be able to provide much information.

  • When occurs crash recovery, why use active online redo log not archived log?

If current redo log had archived, but it's still 'ACTIVE'. As we all know, archived log is just an archived copy of the current redo log which is still 'ACTIVE', they have the same data. But why use active online redo log not archived log for crash recovery?(I think, if crash recovery can use archived log, then whether the online redo log is 'ACTIVE' or not, it can be overwritten)
    Quote:
Re: v$log : How redo log file can have a status ACTIVE and be already archived?
    Hemant K Chitale
If your instance crashes, Oracle attempts Instance Recovery -- reading from the Online Redo Logs. It doesn't need ArchiveLogs for Instance Recovery.
    TanelPoder
Whether the log is already archived or not doesn't matter here, when the instance crashes, Oracle needs some blocks from that redolog. Archivelog is just an archived copy of the redolog, so you could use either the online or achive log for the recovery, it's the same data in there (Oracle reads the log/archivelog file header when it tries to use it for recovery and validates whether it contains the changes (RBA range) in it what it needs).

    Aman.... wrote:
    John,
Are you sure that the instance recovery (not the media recovery) would be using the archived redo logs? Since the only thing that would be lost is the isntance, there wouldn't be any archived redo log generated from the Current redo log and the previous archived redo logs, would be already checkpointed to the data file, IMHO archived redo logs won't participate in the instance recovery process. Yep, shall watch the video but tomorrow .
    Regards
    Aman....
That's what I said. Or meant to say. If Oracle used archivelogs for instance recovery, it would not be possible to recover in noarchive log mode. So recovery relies exclusively on the online log.
Sorry I wasted your time, I'll try to be less ambiguous in future

  • Some times the logs not display in process chains

Some times the logs not display in process chains then how could we find them??

If you are in Tcode RSPC and opened your process chain you are able to click on the Logs icon. It will prompt you for a date selection.
If this still doesn't work you might have forgotton to activate and schedule your process chain. Before you activate check that your start variant is set to Direct scheduling by double clicking on the start variant.
    hope this helps.

    SQL> select max(sequence#) from v$archived_log;
    MAX(SEQUENCE#)
    44051

standby is one log switch behind only!this is wrong query used on primary & standby. even if any one of archive gap available lets suppose sequence *44020* , this archive not transported to standby due to some network problem and so on. later if archives from *44021* all the archives transported on standby upto *44051* , then it shows the maximum sequence transferred to standby, It wont shows applied sequence.
    Check the below queries.
    Primary:-
    SQL> select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$archived_log group by thread#;
    Standby:-
    SQL> select thread#,max(sequence#) from v$archived_log where applied='YES' group by thread#;

The 'r' parameter specifies whether to retain the log and the 'ab' parameter specifies whether to automatically back up the log. The following list shows the parameter values of the Wevtutil command-line tool that correspond to each of the above retention policies.
Overwrite events as needed: r = false, ab = false
Archive the log when full, do not overwrite events: r = true, ab = true
Do not overwrite events. (Clear logs manually.): r = true, ab = false
