Permissions on control directory startup error
Messaging Server is exiting with the following error:
Startup Problem:, The permissions on directory
f:/suitespot/MailServer/spool/control are incorrect.,
Netscape Messaging Server Exiting! What is going on?
<P>
To fix this check the directory permissions for your spool
directory. They should have, at a minimum, full control access to
the spool directory and all the subdirectories for the account that
you are running the server as (NetscapeMTA by default). Make sure
that the directories exist and have those privelages.
<P>
The directories should be: <br>
spool\control <br>
spool\messages <br>
spool\deferred <br>
spool\log <br>
spool\config <br>
Do the following and post the results:
cd $ORACLE_BASE
pwd
ls -al
cd jre
pwd
ls -al
cd 1.18
pwd
ls -alI can't imagine anyone making recommendations without seeing what you've done.

Hi,
10.8.2 / Server 2.2
Attempting to turn Open Directory fails with the message:
An error occurred on the server while processing a command.
The error occurred while processing a command of type 'setState' in plug-in 'servermgr_dirserv'
How can I resolve this?
Thanks.Thanks for replying. It's a new install, and it worked for about 2 days before it stopped working. I'm not sure what changes I made to break OD.
I'm probably not knowlegable enough to understand the log file, even if I knew where to look. Apple did position this as "server for the rest of us" with a low price, so I'm using it to learn. And since I'm using this to learn, I don't mind starting over. But as far as I can see I see no option of creating a new master database, only a replicate record.
Again, thanks for replying. -
Hi,
On installing Oracle 9.2 on RedHat Linux release 4, I encounterd the
following error:
Error in setting permissions on file/directory

This error is encountered at the inital stage of installation after inputing all the
required settings in the OUI. and at the Installing Java Runtinme Environment 1.1.8.1.0
Could someone tell me why it happened and how to fix it? Your help is
much appreciated.
There was a post on this topic only in here and said to change the permissions of the
ORACLE_BASE .......... I have tried out all these and all the permissions and the environment settings are correct but i'm not able to proceed with the installation even after a lot of trying.
All you guys help is verry verry appreciated..........
Thanks,Do the following and post the results:

Error in setting permissions of file/directory
This is the error I am getting
Error in setting permissions of file/directory /u01/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/i686/native_threads/.extract_args

Enabling OCSP checking in Access Manager causes Directory lookup error
I have deployed Access Manager 7.1 update 1 to Sun Java Web Server 7. This is on a Solaris 9 sparc server.
If I enable OCSP checking in AMConfig.properties, I get the following in my web server logs:
HTTP3068: Error receiving request from 214.x.x.x (Directory lookup error).
This is when running the webserver as webservd - if I run it as root (not acceptable in my environment) I don't have a problem. I have successful installations on a Solaris 10 x86, and another Solaris 9 sparc server.
It seems to be either a permissions issue, or an environment issue, but after working with LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and adding .jar and .so files to the amserver lib directory, I'm still not getting a working configuration. Does anyone have any ideas?Thanks samk,
After the installation, I have started the Directory server,admin,and console with following commands:
bash-3.00# directoryserver start
bash-3.00# directoryserver start-admin
SunONE-WebServer-Enterprise/6.0SP3 B05/19/2004 02:48

Recieved the Login console window,logged in and got the ipsolutionshowcase tree.
What are the next steps I need to folow in order to launch the Access Manager page?
Ant thoughts?

In TechTools ( came with Applecare ) i got a failed on Directory Structure, second time since owning my couple month old machine, first time apple recomended reloading.
i dont mishandle it, dont bump, dent, etc, the laptop.
but all of a sudden sometimes my USB keyboard/mouse wont register as being plugged in all the time / techtools HDD errors.
only recent think if done is instal Onyx to look over the logs, and little while after ( days ) the issues started hapening,, same with last time, but didnt think it was Onyx, now im starting to wonder, anybody else have any issues like this, and Would Onyx couse it ( doubt it, but since onyx goes deep into the system, no idea )It is an interesting coincidence that I came across this thread today because I had the exact same issue myself last night.
I have plenty of space available on my HDD 73.1GB.
I downloaded the latest Onyx last night and when it starts it checks the disk. I got an error on the startup volume so I ran Tech Tools as well.
TechTools came up with that same failed Directory Structure error.
I next tried to reboot the comptuer holding down Apple/S and entering fsck -fy
That resulted in errors. Tried re-running it 3-4 tims to see if it would resolve anything but got the same error with every attempt.
I then booted from DiskWarrior and ran that. It seemed to correct a number of issues and now TechTools, Onyx, Disk Utility etc. find no problems. But it was kind of an odd occurance and interesting to find I was not alone in getting that last night.
The odd thing though is that I also checked my Mac Pro while I was wating on this one to finish and had directory errors on that one as well so had to run DiskWarrior on both.
I was kind of concerned about that to say the least. -
I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB.
Ever since the Premiere CC 2014 update, on launch, I get this error right after it shows "ExporterQuickTimeHost.bundle" loading (I tried removing this, but it still did it, so I don't think it has anything to do with the QuickTime plugin):
Adobe Premiere Pro Startup Error
Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again.
I never got this in the CC version. I have the latest CUDA driver: version 6.0.46 & GPU Driver: version 8.26.21 310.40.35f08
The computer is unusable for about 4-5 mins after this happens until it all clears up. This whole process takes up 7-8 mins!
This same thing also happens with Prelude CC 2014.
If anyone knows what's going on I would be very grateful.
Thanks, MazI found a solution that worked for me. Seems to be a permissions problem. Here's the solution I found (found it here: CC 2014 startup issues : Adobe Premiere Pro):
In the finder menu click and hold on the GO menu. Hold the option button and the User library will show up. Click the User Library.
In that folder go to preferences and find the adobe folder.
Right click on adobe folder and click get info.
In the Sharing & Permissions section there should be three names.
All should say Read & Write next to them.
Unlock the lock, switch them all to read and write.
Then click on the little gear directly under the names or to to the left of the lock and in the pulldown click on "apply to enclosed items.
Then lock the lock again.
Now go to your OS Hardrive and click on Users, your user name, Documents.
Find the adobe folder there.
The lock the lock again.
Wait 1 minute. Then launch Premiere.
This fixed it for me. -
[Forum FAQ] Using PowerShell to assign permissions on Active Directory objects
As we all know, the
ActiveDirectoryAccessRule class is used to represent an access control entry (ACE) in the discretionary access control list (DACL) of an Active Directory Domain Services object.
To set the permissions on Active Directory objects, the relevant classes and their enumerations are listed as below:
System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectoryAccessRule class:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.directoryservices.activedirectoryaccessrule(v=vs.110).aspx
System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectoryRights
class:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.directoryservices.activedirectoryrights(v=vs.110).aspx
System.Security.AccessControl.AccessControlType class:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/w4ds5h86(v=vs.110).aspx
System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectorySecurityInheritance class:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.directoryservices.activedirectorysecurityinheritance(v=vs.110).aspx
In this article, we introduce three ways to get and set the ACE on an Active Directory object. In general,
we use Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI) or
Active Directory module cmdlets
with the Get-Acl and Set-Acl cmdlets to assign simple permissions on Active Directory objects. In addition, we can use the extended rights and GUID settings to execute
more complex permission settings.
Method 1: Using ADSI
1. Get current permissions of an organization unit (OU)
We can use the PowerShell script below to get current permissions of an organization unit and you just need to define the name of the OU.
$Name = "OU=xxx,DC=com"
$ADObject = [ADSI]"LDAP://$Name"
$aclObject = $ADObject.psbase.ObjectSecurity
$aclList = $aclObject.GetAccessRules($true,$true,[System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier])
$output=@()
foreach($acl in $aclList)
$objSID = New-Object System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier($acl.IdentityReference)
$info = @{
'ActiveDirectoryRights' = $acl.ActiveDirectoryRights;
'InheritanceType' = $acl.InheritanceType;
'ObjectType' = $acl.ObjectType;
'InheritedObjectType' = $acl.InheritedObjectType;
'ObjectFlags' = $acl.ObjectFlags;
'AccessControlType' = $acl.AccessControlType;
'IdentityReference' = $acl.IdentityReference;
'NTAccount' = $objSID.Translate( [System.Security.Principal.NTAccount] );
'IsInherited' = $acl.IsInherited;
'InheritanceFlags' = $acl.InheritanceFlags;
'PropagationFlags' = $acl.PropagationFlags;
$obj = New-Object -TypeName PSObject -Property $info
$output+=$obj}
$output
In the figure below, you can see the results of running the script above:
Figure 1.
2. Assign a computer object with Full Control permission on an OU
We can use the script below to delegate Full Control permission to the computer objects within an OU:
$SysManObj = [ADSI]("LDAP://OU=test….,DC=com") #get the OU object
$computer = get-adcomputer "COMPUTERNAME" #get the computer object which will be assigned with Full Control permission within an OU
$sid = [System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier] $computer.SID
$identity = [System.Security.Principal.IdentityReference] $SID
$adRights = [System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectoryRights] "GenericAll"
$type = [System.Security.AccessControl.AccessControlType] "Allow"
$inheritanceType = [System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectorySecurityInheritance] "All"
$ACE = New-Object System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectoryAccessRule $identity,$adRights,$type,$inheritanceType #set permission
$SysManObj.psbase.ObjectSecurity.AddAccessRule($ACE)
$SysManObj.psbase.commitchanges()
After running the script above, you can check the computer object in Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) and it is under the Security tab in OU Properties.
Method 2: Using Active Directory module with the Get-Acl and Set-Acl cmdlets
You can use the script below to get and assign Full Control permission to a computer object on an OU:
$acl = get-acl "ad:OU=xxx,DC=com"
$acl.access #to get access right of the OU
$computer = get-adcomputer "COMPUTERNAME"
$sid = [System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier] $computer.SID
# Create a new access control entry to allow access to the OU
$identity = [System.Security.Principal.IdentityReference] $SID
$adRights = [System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectoryRights] "GenericAll"
$type = [System.Security.AccessControl.AccessControlType] "Allow"
$inheritanceType = [System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectorySecurityInheritance] "All"
$ACE = New-Object System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectoryAccessRule $identity,$adRights,$type,$inheritanceType
# Add the ACE to the ACL, then set the ACL to save the changes
$acl.AddAccessRule($ace)
Set-acl -aclobject $acl "ad:OU=xxx,DC=com"
Method 3: Using GUID setting
The scripts above can only help us to complete simple tasks, however, we may want to execute more complex permission settings. In this scenario, we can use GUID settings to achieve
that.
The specific ACEs allow an administrator to delegate Active Directory specific rights (i.e. extended rights) or read/write access to a property set (i.e. a named collection of attributes) by
setting ObjectType field in an object specific ACE to the
rightsGuid of the extended right or property set. The delegation can also be created to target child objects of a specific class by setting the
InheritedObjectType field to the schemaIDGuid of the class.
We choose to use this pattern: ActiveDirectoryAccessRule(IdentityReference, ActiveDirectoryRights, AccessControlType, Guid, ActiveDirectorySecurityInheritance, Guid)
You can use the script below to
assign the group object with the permission to change user password on all user objects within an OU.
$acl = get-acl "ad:OU=xxx,DC=com"
$group = Get-ADgroup xxx
$sid = new-object System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier $group.SID
# The following object specific ACE is to grant Group permission to change user password on all user objects under OU
$objectguid = new-object Guid
00299570-246d-11d0-a768-00aa006e0529 # is the rightsGuid for the extended right User-Force-Change-Password (“Reset Password”)
class
$inheritedobjectguid = new-object Guid
bf967aba-0de6-11d0-a285-00aa003049e2 # is the schemaIDGuid for the user
$identity = [System.Security.Principal.IdentityReference] $SID
$adRights = [System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectoryRights] "ExtendedRight"
$type = [System.Security.AccessControl.AccessControlType]
"Allow"
$inheritanceType = [System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectorySecurityInheritance] "Descendents"
$ace = new-object System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectoryAccessRule $identity,$adRights,$type,$objectGuid,$inheritanceType,$inheritedobjectguid
$acl.AddAccessRule($ace)
Set-acl -aclobject $acl "ad:OU=xxx,DC=com"
The figure below shows the result of running the script above:
Figure 2.
In addition, if you want to assign other permissions, you can change the GUID values in the script above. The common GUID values are listed as below:
$guidChangePassword
= new-object Guid ab721a53-1e2f-11d0-9819-00aa0040529b

Add Object Specific ACEs using Active Directory Powershell
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/adpowershell/archive/2009/10/13/add-object-specific-aces-using-active-directory-powershell.aspx
Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.The ActiveDirectoryAccessRule has more than one constructor, but yes, you've interpreted the one that takes six arguments correctly.
Those GUIDs are different (check just before the first dash). Creating that ACE will create an empty GUID for InheritedObjectType, though, because you're telling it to apply to the Object only ([System.DirectoryServices.ActiveDirectorySecurityInheritance]::None).
Since the ACE will only apply to the object, there's no need to worry about what types of objects will inherit it.
If you've got time, check out
this module. It will let you view the security descriptors in a much friendlier format. Try both version 3.0 and the version 4.0 preview:
Sample version 3.0:
# This is going to be kind of slow, and it will take a few seconds the first time
# you run it because it has to build the list of GUID <--> Property/Class/etc objects
Get-ADGroup GroupY |
Get-AccessControlEntry -ObjectAceType member -InheritedObjectAceType group -ActiveDirectoryRights WriteProperty
# Same as the previous command, except limit it to access granted to GroupX
Get-ADGroup GroupY |
Get-AccessControlEntry -ObjectAceType member -InheritedObjectAceType group -ActiveDirectoryRights WriteProperty -Principal GroupX
Here's version 4.0. It's way faster than 3.0, but it's missing the -ObjectAceType and -InheritedObjectAceType parameters on Get-AccessControlEntry (don't worry, when they come back they'll be better than in 3.0):
Get-ADGroup GroupY |
Get-AccessControlEntry
Get-ADGroup GroupY |
Get-AccessControlEntry -ActiveDirectoryRights WriteProperty
Get-ADGroup GroupY |
Get-AccessControlEntry -ActiveDirectoryRights WriteProperty -Principal GroupX
# You can do a Where-Object filter until the parameters are added back to Get-AccessControlEntry:
Get-ADGroup GroupY |
Get-AccessControlEntry -ActiveDirectoryRights WriteProperty |
where { $_.AccessMask -match "All Prop|member Prop" }
Get-ADGroup GroupY |
Get-AccessControlEntry -ActiveDirectoryRights WriteProperty |
where { $_.ObjectAceType -in ($null, [guid]::Empty, "bf9679c0-0de6-11d0-a285-00aa003049e2") }
Get-ADGroup GroupY |
Get-AccessControlEntry -ActiveDirectoryRights WriteProperty |
where { $_.AccessMask -match "All Prop|member Prop" -and $_.AppliesTo -match "group"}
That's just for viewing. Version 3.0 can add and remove access, or you can use New-AccessControlEntry to replace your call to New-Object, and you can still use Get-Acl and Set-Acl. The benefit to New-AccessControlEntry is that you can do something like this:
New-AccessControlEntry -Principal GroupX -ActiveDirectoryRights WriteProperty -ObjectAceType member -InheritedObjectAceType group #-AppliesTo Object

I tried to assign different-2 DataSources (as you suggested) but same problem persists.
Kindly find the exception's logs below..

Startup error required resources are missing
Heyelp!! I purchased CS 5.5 for my new mac running OSX 10.7.3 installed CS5.5 and it is wonderful. Problem is I prefer Dreamweaver 3 because of the frames thing, so, I thought I would reinstall CS3 and just add Dreamweaver 3, problem is when I do it reads Startup Error, required resources are missing, so, I decided to call Adobe. The response was "we no longer provide support for 3, if you cannot find a solution on the forum there is nothing you can do." Well, $1300 doesn't get you much these days, so Dear Forum readers, any possibility of a leg up here? Thankyou!!

I'm getting this on two different machines running different OSX versions with different graphics cards:
Adobe Premiere Pro Startup Error
Adobe Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again.
My computers are:
iMAC / OS X 10.9.5 / AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB
MacBook Pro / OS X 10.10 / AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024MB
Was in a chat with an Adobe tech person and they even remotely got on my computer and changed permissions on two Adobe folders and sub folders and it still didn't work. Adobe Premiere CC seems to work. But clients are all using CC 2004.Hi ufoclub,
Try this:
Go to the following locations:
Location 1: When in Finder, click on Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Location 2: Go > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe
Location 3: Documents > Adobe
In all the locations, rename the 'Adobe' folders to 'OldAdobe'
Launch Premiere, accept the License Agreement and see if it works.
Note: You will lose your customized workspaces and keyboard shortcuts.
Thanks,

CS6 in Windows 8 Startup Error
Hello,
I just bought a new laptop, a Sony Intel i7 with Windows 8. I just bought the creative cloud and opened up Premiere pro. I got this startup error, "Adobe Premiere pro could not find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display drivers and start again.
I've seen forums discussing this issue, but nothing has worked. I tried it in admin and nothing. I went to my graphics properties and changed the power settings to maximim performance, nothing.
Does it have to do with it being on windows 8?
Thanks
JulieSo, you did everything it says here? http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/error---preludevideo-play-modules.html
What is the exact brand/model graphics adapter/chip and the exact device driver version?
If nVidia, find the driver driver version
Right click in any open area of the Windows desktop
Select NVIDIA Control Panel from the popup window
Select SYSTEM INFORMATION at the lower left corner
Driver version should be the 1st line in Details
>graphics properties and changed the power settings to maximim performance
Does that mean you have dual video adapters?

Hi All,
I am trying to install the WCI on Win Server 2003.
I followed the step-by-step installation guide provided by Oracle on http://download-llnw.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13158_01/alui/wci/docs103/map_wci_win_installguide_10-3/. However, we came across this problem where the portal can't be started after completing the installation and configuration.
The configuration manager is able to run, but not the portal.
The startup error log is as follows:
Diagnostic system initialization OK.
Portal Startup begins: 15 total tasks.
Recommendations follow:
PortalObjectsFactory Initialization Failure (Java)
RECOMMENDATION: Review the exception listed below for details. Since
OpenKernel initialized correctly, this usually means that the
portal database is not scripted or properly configured, or there
is an installation problem related to JAR files. This may also
mean the search libraries are not on your PATH or
LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Try running ptverify.
More Detail:
OpenKernel configuration failure. This usually means INVALID
DATABASE SETTINGS. Run ptconfig to verify your database connection.
If this fails, check the web application server user's access rights
to the file system. Finally, verify the XML settings files are not
corrupt.

FYI, we had been uninstalling and re-installing several times, but the same problems occured. So, does any of you faced this kind of error before?
Your views and opinions are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.Looks like this a Java portal... this error is usually caused by an invalid path or similar problem with environment variables. Since ptverify works, this is even more likely. I would make sure you've followed the preinstall steps. The problem is probably somehow related to you needing to:
1.) Set the PT_HOME environment variable.
2.) Add it to your PATH.
3.) Make sure the application server (Weblogic?) is set up to properly use the above variables (is the user it is running as set up to have above, etc). I would add some echo statements to your application server bat files if you are unsure if these variables are set or what they are.
4.) Some other environment variable is necessary (i.e. does LD_LIBRARY_PATH contain the /lib/java directory).
Most of this should be done by the install, but when you are setting up the application server you may need to check this (or if you have reinstalled, run as a different user, etc, this may be different).
I realize that's kind of vague but this type of error can be harder to diagnose, plus its been a while since I've done a Windows install. Hope this helps...

Hi All,
I could see following error event in all client computers , Could you please some one help me on this ?
Log Name: Application
Source:
Microsoft-Windows-CertificateServicesClient-CredentialRoaming
Event ID: 1005
Level: Error
Description: Certificate Services Client: Credential Roaming failed to write to the Active Directory. Error code 5 (Access is denied.)
Regards, Srinivasu.MuchcherlaIf you are not using certificates and Credential Roaming for clients then simply ignore the error message.
If you are using certificates then you are getting access denied message when Credential Roaming is trying to write to your AD. More details about Credential Roaming here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2009/01/06/certs-on-wheels-understanding-credential-roaming.aspx
http://blogs.technet.com/b/instan/archive/2009/05/26/considerations-for-implementing-credential-roaming.aspx
This is probably related to the fact that your schema version not 44 or higher: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/5b3a6e61-68c4-47d3-ae79-8296cb3be315/certificateservicesclientcredentialroaming-errors?forum=winserverGP
