Personal Oracle and Oracle Lite ??

I'd like to know the difference between Personal Oracle (PO)
and Oracle Lite:
1. PO = multi user ? - Lite = single user ?
2. PO = stronger/bigger database - Lite = small database ?
2. PO = support PL/SQL ? - Lite = no PL/SQL ?
3. Replica:
Lite = Snapshotsite only;
Support basic and advanced replica with
Enterprise Edition (or Oracle 8i server ?)
as Mastersite
PO = Snapshotsite only ?
Basic (read only) replication only ?
Please help !

Hi,
Hereby are some answers:
1 : PO is personal version of Oracle RDBMS, and available under
Win95/98/NT. It is the same kernel than a normal Oracle RDBMS
without some advanced feature (object, etc). Lite is another
kernel and originally is a ODBMS (object DBMS). Lite is available
under Win95/98/NT/CE, Epoc32 (coming) and Palm OS (coming). Both
products are actually single user products. There will be a lite
mini-server which will support mutli-user access.
2 - Yes, PO is a full Oracle RDBMS and Lite is a foot-print
database. But both database are mutil-sessions, row-level locking
etc.
3 - PO supports PL/SQL and Lite support Java Stored procedures.
Both have database triggers.
4 - For the replication feature, both PO and Lite fully support
basic and advanced replciation. That means: readonly snapshot and
updatable snapshots with subquery and subsettings. They can only
play as snapshot sites. The master site must be Oracle 8 or 8i.
Hope these can help,
Regards,

    Is it possible to have Personal Oracle8 and Oralce8i Lite
    running on the same machine? If it is, can someone tell me how?
    Thanks,

    Ronald I don'tknow if you can run both
    but at least for me converting was non\
    trivial.
    I removed personal oracle on my win98 machine
    by running orainst and removing every thing
    I could, then renaming the orawin directory,
    and running the windows registry editor
    and deleting the oracle section from
    within a section callled software.
    I am under the impression that O8 lite
    is to replace personal oracle 8.
    One thing that seems missing is
    pl/sql.

  • Lite vs Personal Oracle

    I have a laptop running Windows ME. From what I have tried and what I have seen, Oracle does not have a database which will install on this.
    So it appears I need to get a new operating system. Which is the best for personal use on my laptop and what are the main differences between Oracle Lite and Oracle Personal databases.
    Email me at [email protected]

  • Oracle Lite vs Personal Oracle

    Hi
    I use Oracle Server 8.1.7 at work and want to do some development work at home. Which version should I use on my Win 98 machine and what are the pros and cons of each?
    Cheers
    Phil

    I would advise you to use Personal Oracle.
    Personal Oracle has most of the features the Enterprise version of Oracle 8.1.7 has. Oracle Lite is a very light weight version of Oracle which doesn't really have anything to do with the normal versions.
    Especially when you want to develop things at home and deploy them at work you need Personal Oracle

  • Satelite Forms and Oracle Lite

    Hi Guys, In order to develop the application using Puma Tech Satelite form what version should i use? Satelite forms enterprise edition with Full Server? or Just the Enterprise Edition without server? Please reply me i am planning to buy the software.
    Thanks
    SR

    Oracle 8i is a version of the Oracle RDBMS. You can buy special "sizes" of this RDBMS like: Enterprise, Standard, Personal or Lite.
    Oracle Personal is good for Developers using a private database on their own computer, usually Oracle Standard is good for a smaller server and Oracle Enterprise is for huge databases. Oracle lite is only for users that have a database on their laptop and don't need many extras. So the basic thing, the RDBMS, is always the same, but depending on the size there may be less or more "extras". You can learn more about these extras in the product decriptions on the Oracle-Site.
    To sum up, you can have a personal Oracle 8i.
    That's how I understand that.

  • Differences between Oracle Personal Edition and Enterprise Edition

    What are the differences between the databases of Oracle Personal Edition and the Oracle Enterprise Edition..?

    I have just looked at the metalink document and see that Oracle are still blatantly lying about the availability of analytical functions.
    We chose standard edition on the basis of this document and were very annoyed to find we could not use analytical functions.
    The document is about 8i. Of course we are all on 9i these days aren't we ?

  • Forms 6i on personal Oracle 8i and polite 8i

    Hi,
    Does anyone have a clue about the reason I cant get to run forms 6i on personal Oracle 8i or polite 8. I keep getting an error saying no listner, althou I dont need a listner when I am using single machine. same seting was working on polite 8 and forms 6. I can run sql plus 8 fine on same machine. Please respond to my email. thanks

    Forms 6 does need a listener to eb able to talk to Oracle 8i even though they are on the same machine. This is because they reside in different Oracle homes and cannot 'see' each other. The listener should be started automatically with Oracle 8i, make sure you have a TNSNAMES entry for the 8i database in your Forms Net8 Oracle Home (probably ORANT or ORAWIN9x - not sure about Windows 2000!).

  • Personal Oracle 8i and forms 6

    I have installed Personal Oracle 8i (8.1.7) on my lap top. Then I installed Forms 6i.
    (Pls Note : Forms Installed in another Oracle Home)
    Now The Problem :-
    When I try to connect forms to the DB I get the following error message.
    ORA:12154: TNS could not resolve service name.
    How can I correct this problem?
    Any help will be much appreciated.
    p.s. Where can I download a copy of forms 6i.

    Hey Arunraj,
    In this case you want to open the tnsnames.ora file in the db home (found in something like c:\oracle\ora81\network\admin) with notepad (be sure "Always open this file type w/ this app." is deselected). Your looking for the info that was created when you installed and created your db. It'll look something like:
    SULLIVAN.WORLD =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = c1862668-a)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = sullivan.world)
    Copy and paste this into the tnsnames.ora file found in your Forms home. Anytime you create a new db and need forms to find it you can do this.

  • Connecting Personal Oracle 8i and Developer

    Hi
    The following works for me.
    The critical files required are tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora and listener.ora.
    Put sqlnet.ora, listener.ora and tnsnames.ora in the ORACLE\ORA81\NETWORK\ADMIN directory.
    Put sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora in the
    ORAWIN95\NETWORK directory.
    The following are how the files should look.
    This is assuming the PO 8I installation defaults were taken (SID is ORCL, and GLOBAL DATABASE NAME is ORACLE).
    Listener.ora file:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = TTC)
    (SESSION = NS)
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = TTC)
    (SESSION = NS)
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 2481))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = GIOP)
    (SESSION = RAW)
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = c:\Oracle\Ora81)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = Oracle)
    (ORACLE_HOME = c:\Oracle\Ora81)
    (SID_NAME = ORCL)
    tnsnames.ora file:
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    ORACLE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = oracle)
    (SID = ORCL)
    sqlnet.ora file:
    TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER=OFF
    TRACE_DIRECTORY=C:\ORACLE\ORA81\NETWORK\LOG
    trace_level_client = off
    trace_directory_client = c:\orawin95\network\log
    #sqlnet.authentication_services=(NONE)
    names.directory_path=(TNSNAMES,HOSTNAME)
    #names.default_domain=world

    automatic_ipc = off# c:\oracle\ora81\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT=OFF
    TRACE_DIRECTORY_CLIENT=C:\ORACLE\ORAWIN95\NETWORK\LOG
    Create a shortcut for listener (C:\Oracle\Ora81\BIN\LSNRCTL.EXE).
    Start developer.
    Start PO 8i.
    Start Listener and enter "start".
    You should now be able to connect to Oracle
    from Developer using scott/tiger and using oracle as the database name.
    Good Luck.

    Hi.
    I too had problems getting Developer 6 to connect to Personal Oracle 8 on Windows 98.
    Thanks to the information Jim posted I am now able to connect.
    I followed Jim's instructions with three exceptions.
    First exception - On my machine the sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora file belong in the ORAWIN95\NET80 directory rather than ORAWIN95\NETWORK directory.
    Second exception -- Personal Oracle 8 was installed in C:\ORA81 rather than C:\ORACLE\ORA81 so I adjusted pathnames as needed.
    Third exception -- I made backup copies of the sqlnet.ora, tnsnames.ora, and listener.ora files that the installation had created before I started editing them.
    My first attempt to start the listener failed with TNS-01152 message which indicated that the addresses provided to listener were not valid.
    I replaced the listener.ora file in my C:\ORA81\NETWORK\ADMIN directory with the one that the installation had created then attempted to start the listener again.
    The listener started successfully. I attempted to connect from Developer6 using scott/tiger@oracle. Developer6 connected!
    Here is what my listern.ora file looks like:
    # LISTENER.ORA Network Configuration File: # C:\ora81\network\admin\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = i8q4v6)(PORT = 1521))
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = GIOP)
    (SESSION = RAW)
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = i8q4v6)(PORT = 2481))
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\ora81)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = ORACLE)

    (SID_NAME = ORCL)
    Good Luck.

  • Oracle lite database username and password

    Hi,
    I have a database file doe.odb and dsn is doe. When I tried connecting database using default system/manager userid/password I got following error:
    pol-5150 access violation.
    I used following command to connect to the database:
    msql system/manager@jdbc:polite:doe
    Actually I do not know the original userid and password used to create database. There are thounsands of records in the database file. The developer before me did not left any clue about userid and password.
    Is there any way to connect this database?
    Is there any way to recover userid and password?
    Best Regards,
    Wajih

    The username is the username of the device user. So, lets say JOHN is your user and SAMPLEDB is your application, JOHN's password is TEST123. The connection would be
    msql system/test123@jdbc:polite:john_sampledb
    What materials have you gone through for Oracle Lite?

  • Help: Oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 and symbian 9 s60

    Greetings,
    I installed the oracle litle server, I have a client installed windows 32, and synchronizes works, the problem is when I want to install a client for symbian,
    first how to enable the client for Oracle Lite Symbian OS v7 and OS v7/UIQ2.1 in mobile server, to make install from the client gives me an internal error (http://serverlite:8080/webtogo/admin/console/setup/),
    download the patch from the metalink and downloads from oracle downloads area (the same, Oracle Database Lite 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.8) Mobile Client for Symbian 9 ), I installed olite_core.sis Successfully
    and there is where I do not run in phone nokiea E61, and install msync other utilities on the phone nokia E61, but is not doing as synchronization
    the question is:
    -exist patch for oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 and symbian 9 s60
    -how to enable client for symbian 9 s60 in oracle lite server 10.3.0.1.0
    -how to sync from client nokia E61i, with msync and others tool in the oracle lite server
    -where install olite_epoc.zip (in the phone or the IDE developer and SDK nokia)
    my plattform:
    server: Windows XP and Oracle lite 10.3.0.1.0 Server
    Client1: windows xp client windows 32
    Clientn: Phone Nokia E61i with symbian 9 s60
    Roy Ayala Galvis
    java developer - mobile developer

    Hi Roy,
    For symbian 9 you have downloaded the correct binaries,there is no other patch for symbian.You should be able to sync symbian client database with 10.3.0.1 server.
    Make sure that server is in the public network otherwise GPRS based synchronize does not work.
    Use the example application user as s11u1 to get the syn examples working with mobile server.
    Synchronization from E61i will also work , but dialogues messages in the UI will not displayed properly
    Olite_epoc.zip should be installed in IDE/SDK, not in the phone .
    Please read the documents for symbian in the meta-link.

  • How to connect using netbean 6.5 and oracle lite 10g

    Hello everyone.. I am really really new in this kind of thing. My task is that I need to develop a simple system using netbean and oracle lite 10g..Does anyone can at least give me a little bit tutorial for a head start in order to connect them.. I really appreciate for those who answer this.. Thank you guys...

    you mean to connect from java to oracle lite server or client?
    -if it is server you mean then you probably need to run some oracle apis (e.g. the consolidator aps).
    String url="MOBILEADMIN/123@jdbc:oracle:thin:@MYSERVER:1521:MYDB" ;
    ResourceManager.initialize(url);
    rm = ResourceManager.getInstance();
    User usr = rm.getUser(user);
    for (Enumeration e = usr.getDevices(); e.hasMoreElements();) {
    Device dev = (Device)e.nextElement();
    }//AND you may continue from here in order to send commands to the devices
    -if you have a oracle repository at the back end and you want to connect to that then you can connect like:
    DriverManager.registerDriver ((Driver)Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver").newInstance ());
    String url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@myserver:port:database;
    c=DriverManager.getConnection( url,"username", "password" );
    s=c.createStatement();
    s.executeQuery("Select TRIM(CODES) AS CODES,TRIM(SURNAME)||'_'||TRIM(FIRSTNAME) AS NAME from MYDB.USERS");
    ResultSet rs =s.getResultSet();
    -now if you want to connect to the oracle lite client database then you may connect using the polite
    you should write something like (i havent tried it because i use handheld clients)
    String ConnectMe=("jdbc:polite:SCOTT/tiger:polite;DataDirectory=c:\Oracle_Home;Database=polite;IsolationLevel=SINGLE;USER;Autocommit=ON;CursorType=DYNAMIC")
    try {
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(ConnectMe)
    catch (SQLException e)
    (check the internet for jdbc:polite connection strings)

  • Oracle lite and Stored Procedures

    Hi, I have just installed Oracle lite, connected to Polite and created dropped tables etc. I notice that in Navigator there is no folder for stored procedures or triggers. I tried to compile a syntacally correct proc in SQL plus and it generated this error: Create or Replace Procedure SCORECARD.Gen_Fiscal_Year_Data AS
    ERROR at line 1:
    OCA-30021: error preparing/executing SQL statement
    [POL-5228] syntax error.
    Does this mean that stored procs are not supported in Oracle lite?
    Thanks, Paul

    Oracle Lite database does not support the usual stored procedures/triggers like an Oracle database. You have to use java classes to create triggers/stored procedures to run them in Oracle Lite database. You can refer the documentation on Oracle 8i Lite for samples/detailed information.
