Photo gallery loader?

Okay so I found an online tutorial for a photo gallery which
is great cause I'm very new to Flash.
Tutorial is visible here
http://www.layoutgalaxy.com/html/htmnewletter41-page1.htm
Anyway I get all the way to the end and the guy says a loader
is needed if this is gonna be posted online. A loader? What? I
don't have the first clue what a loader is or how I would implement
it into my coding. So if anyone can point me in the right direction
it'sd be greatly appreciated cause I haven't found anything that I
understand about a loader.
Thanks in advance.

This is a Flash 5 article on th web site that you mention.
There are much better tutorials on Adobe.com for photo gallery type
applications. Such as :
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/articles/xml_photo_gallery.html
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/adobe_media_gallery.html
and a free one -

Good luck

  • XML Photo Gallery - Loader won't load :(

    Hi,
    I'm trying to make an XML Photo Gallery type thing. For each
    'Product' it creates a new instance of a MovieClip from the
    library, 'XmlItem' which contains a Loader Component and Dynamic
    Text.
    The Product Title goes into the Dynamic Text perfectly. The
    problem is with the Loader Component. It simply REFUSES to load the
    images. There's an exception. If I deliberately cause a syntax
    error in the Loader Component's code, then the pictures load! What
    the hell?
    Oh, also I'm having trouble with the placement of the XmlItem
    instances... For each of them, what position is _x relative to?
    Thanks very much in advance for any help,
    Tim.
    Code:

    my_ldr must exist on all frames or, if you navigate to a frame where it doesn't exist, you must create another loader with the "new" constructor.  in the later situation, you'll need to (re)define your button actions too because the new loader will need to before referenced in the button listener functions.  even if you use the same name, my_ldr, you'll probably need to re-define your buttons.

  • Web Photo Gallery - load into a frame?

    Hi,
    I have created a Web Photo Gallery using Photoshop CS2 and its URL works fine on its own.
    When I try and load it into a frame, none of the links or the the slide show feature work anymore.
    Does this meen that a Gallery cannot be loaded into a frame? Does it have to be standalone?
    Thanks if you can help! :)
    Steven

    The best that I've been able to achieve is to load Twitter widgets into DPS's In-App browser. Directing a plain Twitter feed into a web overlay on an InDesign page makes it look pants.

  • Photo Gallery - Load Detail Image

    How can I load a different image other than the first one
    listed in the XML file?
    Example, let's say I have 20 photos in my XML file. The first
    detail image (large) to load is the first one in the list, how can
    I show the 15th one in the list when the page loads? The order of
    the thumbnails must be in the order they appear in the XML file.
    Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks.

    When you look at most galleries around you will notice they all keep the same aspect ratio for uniformaty. That is one thing and something you can set in the gallery module paramaters.
    In terms of positioning etc it is a simple matter of CSS and what you do in that CSS is what ever you like.
    Target the elements and apply CSS to them to style them.
    Very easy

  • Flash photo gallery - loading first movie - action script

    Hi,
    I have a movie gallery (they are basically images with a fading effect), and I got it setup, and working, but I cannot get right the action script to make the first movie load when the page opens. The only thing I get to see is the scroll bar with the thumbnails, and after I click on the images I can see the full size. I would like the full size image of the first thumbnail to show up as default when the page opens. And then, if you click on the thumbnails the other images will appear. This is my link:
    http://www.mauriciolopez.info/paintings/
    This is the action script for a typical Thumbnail (setup as a button):
    on (release) {
    loadMovie("clip0.swf", "_root.screen");
    I appreciate your help!!!!
    Thanks!!!!

    Rob, thanks for your answer. I do have a movieClip, at the root level. All my other movies load when I click the thumbnails. For some reason I'm not able to make a video appear before clicking on the thumbnails. I'd like to open the gallery and see the first video full size (automatically), before even clicking the thumbnails. Then, when you scroll and enlarge the other ones, they will replace the default one. I haven't been able to make it do this, and it's driving me crazy....
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Photo gallery IE 7 compatability issue

    Photo
    gallery
    The photo gallery loads the thumbnails but not the images in
    Internet Explorer 7. It works fine in Firefox 2/3.
    The code for the area is,
    quote:
    <div spry:detailregion="dsPhotos">
    <h4>{title}</h4>
    <h5>{description}</h5>
    </div>
    <div id="picture">
    <div id="mainImageOutline" style="width: 0px; height:
    0px; text-align: center;"><div align="center"><img
    id="mainImage" alt="main image" src=""/></div></div>
    </div>
    I'm not sure what the issue is. It's not pulling up the image
    at all, and I can't get the image to render in any other method. It
    worked fine with the old framework.
    Another issue is with the play/pause button. Is there a way
    to use a graphical play and pause button instead of the text that
    is defined in gallery.js at lines 258 and 269?
    Sherman

    Reset to older framework.

  • Problem loading images in adobe bridge html photo gallery

    Can someone please, please help me!? I can not figure out why the images will not load in my adobe bridge html photo gallery cs5. I am not getting any error messages in Firefox and just the x in internet explorer.
    Here is the link to the gallery page on the site: http://www.irishwetlands.ie/Gallery.html
    I created the gallery as a html file for compatibality reasons due to accesbility issues with flash, and followed the general insturctions. The gallery folder is called wetlandsgallery and it is loading everything style-wise except the images themselves.
    I then made the gallery within an iframe so it would be more similar to the other pages on the site and contain the menu bar - but no change on the lack of images!
    Having looked around online I think it might be something to do with the bin folder?? Does this have some secutity somewhere thats protecting the images? I am also unsure if I filled in the FTP info correctly when creating the site as I was  getting the message "could not connect to FTP server" so I had to copy over the file from my hard drive to the server provider files. All the tutortials say to load your gallery and no mention of what to do when it won't connect to FTP server.
    If you could also tell me how to edit the image sizes that would be a great help too, as any size changes I make to either the bin/large or bin/thumnail images makes no difference in what appears in the preview?
    Help would be very greatfully appreciated as I am pulling my hair out trying to figure it out with no sucess and a possible bald patch!
    Thanks in advance,
    Áine

    Hello Áine,
    1. Is it really necessary to comment out this part in your source code?
    <!--<p><img src="images/GalleryImages/Gallery1_
                    -----stuff del-----
                    Grasshopper" title="Grasshopper" />
                     </p><br />-->
    Using your source code without these things I could see some of your images.
    2. Looking to your website with my IE8 into image 7 (e.g.) I saw this:
    what means there is a reference to a html file, not to an image. ???
    3. Here it becomes interesting (completely contrary to my point 2.), looking for your path:
    http://www.irishwetlands.ie/images/GalleryImages/Gallery1_Selection%20of%20IRWC%20members% 20at%20the%20Gearagh.jpg
    I can see this image in my IE8 (some people in front of a "wetland". But still I've to assume (as Murray already did too), that there is something wrong with your upload and the pathes.
    4. Allow me to make one brief point, we talked about here on several occasions:  please don't use spaces in image, folders or filenames. I'll quote Murray: In general, URL encoding spaces does not lead to problems. ... Whatever the details are, though, using spaces in filenames or paths is a bad practice which WILL lead to problems.
    5. What concerns the image sizes, maybe later (I didn't understand your question correctly I fear). There is still my language barrier, I'm sorry.

  • Photo gallery (using Loader with no xml)

    Hello, currently I'm doing a photo gallery.
    Inside .fla, only 2 frame:
    1st is for my 3 category: A, B, C.
    stop();
    A.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    B.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    C.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickSection);
    function clickSection(evt:MouseEvent):void{
        gotoAndStop("gallery");
        loader.unload();
        req = new URLRequest(evt.target.name + "_gallery.swf");
        createLoader();
        loader.load(req);
    2nd is to load the swf externally.
    var req:URLRequest
    var container_mc:MovieClip
    var loader:Loader = new Loader();
    req = new URLRequest("A.swf");
    createLoader();
    loader.load(req);
    function createLoader():void{
        loader = new Loader();
        loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT, initListener);
        loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, fileLoaded);
    function initListener(evt:Event):void{
        addChildAt(loader,1);
    function fileLoaded(evt:Event):void{
        container_mc = MovieClip(loader.content);
    debug (click the button and it pop this):
    RangeError: Error #2006: The supplied index is out of bounds.
        at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/addChildAt()
        at main_gallery_fla::MainTimeline/initListener()
    any ideas why?

    Yes, two... the first being the most important...
    1) Learn how to use the help documentation (and Google).  If you look up addChild in the help documents it will define what you need to know to be able to use it.  The same goes for any other element of the AS3 language.  The help documents are a primary tool in learning/using AS3 (or any language).
    2) use:  addChild(loader);
    I couldn't really follow your description in the first posting, but I would almost expect a flurry of other errors unless I am misinterpretting what you described.  Very often errors get reported in sequence, not all at once.

  • Loading a Photoshop Web Photo Gallery into a Flash Movieclip

    I created a photogallery in Photoshop, but I want it to load
    into a movieclip in Flash and not load into it's own page. When I
    use the loadMovie() command I get an error opening the
    galleryconfig.xml file. When I move that file into the main web
    page file, I then get an error opening the photos.xml file. So I
    move that too into the main web page file. And then I get the error
    opening thumbnails/.jpg. Any ideas? I'm pretty sure it's a pathing
    issue since the gallery works fine on it's own. But I'm not sure
    what I need to change to get it to work when it imports. Any help
    would be much appreciated.
    thanks,
    liz

    Hi,
    I am not sure that this will help, as i never tried to do
    what you are doing, But, i think your best option woul be to create
    the pic/gallery in flash and i would think that would solve your
    problem.
    In Flash 8 there is a premade photo Gallery all you need to
    do is to add the pics.
    Otherwise, you can create yours in flah!!
    Hope this helps!

  • Load Movie/ photo gallery

    I have a load movie button working correctly, and I have a
    photo gallery with 'back' and f'orward' buttons working correctly -
    but when I try to load the photo gallery swf file, onto my page
    with the load movie button, I get an endless NaN error pop up on
    screen.
    Does anybody have any suggestions as to where I'm going
    wrong?
    Many thanks.

    NaN (Not A Number)
    The chances are that it’s a string being passed back to
    something that’s expecting a number.

  • Is it possible to load an image from iPhone's photo gallery?

    Is it possible to create a browse event and load a photo from photo gallery on the iPhone?

    That's not possible with the current packager.
    I hope the next version will support that.

  • Buttons Not Working in Photo Gallery

    Hello,
    I set up a photo gallery that uses transition effects. The
    JPEG will load with the transition effect but when I try to use the
    thumbnails nothing happens. I think there is something wrong with
    the thumbnail code.Thanks, WonderWendy

    since your "button" is a movieclip, try modify the script for
    button_mc
    button1_mc.onRelease = function(){
    this._parent.image_mcl.loadClip("image1.jpg", image_mc);
    }

  • Pixelated Line Art in Photo Gallery

    Hi
    I am designing a photo gallery that externally loads jpegs
    via XML. I have an actionscript that allows the jpegs to randomly
    rotate at an angle as they load onto the stage. The jpegs contain
    mostly logos that are line art. It works great but the images are
    pixelated when they are at an angle since they are logos/line art.
    I can't seem to find a solution to solve this pixelation problem. I
    tried loading gif files instead but for some reason gifs does not
    load correctly.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi dzedward
    Thanks for your reply. I attempted to create an
    emptyMovieClip and applied cacheAsBitmap in context of the
    actionScipt that already exist in the file. I tried to follow the
    examples in the Flash 8 documentation but failed. The photo gallery
    I am editing from can be downloaded here:

    Please help. Thanks
