Photoshop CC 14.2.1 and NVidia GTX 660 Display Problems

I'm having exactly this problem:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6264980
The fix documented at the end of that thread works but the penalty is a loss of performance. In an attempt to fix it, I updated to the latest drivers from NVidia for the GTX 660 and as a result, further problems occur:
This sometimes happens when using the crop and straighten tool at 100%.
More often though, irrespective of zoom settings I get:
This happens quite frequently with the dust and scratches/surface blur tools too. Or even on occasion when duplicating a layer or merging layers.
The following gets written out to the event log:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 14.2.1.570, time stamp: 0x52f4a9f2

For now I'm using the following work around but with some performance penalty:
Drawing mode: Basic (resolves the issue with mask overlay being patchy and rendering slowly at 100% zoom)
OpenCL: Disabled (resolves Photoshop crashing with crop/straighten and other tools as described above)
This needs to be fixed! The reduced performance increases the time I spend editing, particularly a large product shoot undertaken recently for a client.

My advice:  Rather that wait hopefully, try some alternate configuration settings.
Specifically, go into your Preferences - Performance - Advanced Settings panel, and try the different options there, making sure to close Photoshop and restart it after each change, then test.
It's possible Photoshop asked the nVidia display driver what it can do, and it said it could do something very advanced, but in the driver implementation some part of that advanced operation is run in the CPU, not the GPU.  NVidia has been known to do this!
Thus it may be that if you choose a lesser drawing mode or change something (e.g., 30 bit display) you might find that particular combination of settings makes things run faster.

  • HDMI connection through PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series and Nvidia GTX 2951

    Hello,
I want to connect HDMI connection through PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series and Nvidia GTX 295\but i cant tell which of the pins on the Audio Card is the Spdif.

CRe: Mic not working (PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series)? Hello,
    Thanks for the reply.
The headset is connected via the 3.5mm jacks in the card.
I believe I have it working now. I ended up having to unstall the drivers and software, reboot, install drivers and software and then mess with the settings. The only issues that I am having now is that I hear a a really high sort of feedback/hiss tone from the headphones now. To correct this I have to turn the input for the microphone down really low within the Windows 7 controls for the microphone and turn it up with Ventrilo to get the mic to work and remove the feedback/hiss.
I believe that the issue stems from the flexjack setting. The whole flexjack thing really seems to mess with the microphone settings. I believe I choose line-in instead of microphone.
Once I get home tonight from work, I will hopefully post the exact settings I came up with to get the mic to work.

  • 990 fxa-gd65 and nvidia gtx support?

    Hi all,
I just got the last of the parts for my new build and it should be  bamf'n . Anyway, I spent the last two days tracking down the b2 error code.  So I swapped out the Galaxy GTX 760 gpu with my old Radeon (I don't remember what it is but it's in the system now so I can't read it...) and low and behold, the system boots and i've got Window's installed and Fedora on the way.
Anyway, My question is this, Tiger Direct has already exchanged the Galaxy GTX 760 for another galaxy GTX 760 but that presented the same issue.  I'm unfamiliar with MSI's resources and therefore I must ask: Are there any known issues with the 990 fxa-gd65 and NVidia cards? GTX cards? Galaxy Cards?
Would I be better off exchanging this video card for a amd or another geforce?...
The only other thing I can figure it *might* be is that the psu doesn't supply enough power for that beastly graphics card...
I'm at a loss here.  I've never heard of any issue this specific to compatibility to two pieces of Hardware and this isn't my first Rodeo.
Here's the Hardware I have in there:
AMD Unlocked 8 Core 4.0 GHz with water cooing unit
    990 fxa-gd65 Mobo
    Thermaltake Smart M750W PSU
Galaxy GTX 760 (does not work)
    2x8GB HyperX 1600MHz RAM
    Toshiba 2TB 7200 RPM HDD
    Thermaltake Chaser MK-I

Quote from: flobelix on 10-July-13, 03:00:02
You had various GTX760 that won't work so seems to have something to do with the rest of the system... Just try it else you will never know.
I disagree. The card seems to be the issue because it is the only thing that we swapped out that resolved the issue.  While I agree that this is a good next step, it occurs to me that if a different card would also resolve the issue I would be willing to accept that path to resolution instead of taking the intermediary step of updating the bios. (which to be honest is not a very mature solution on MSI's part considering the board has no integrated graphics. So therefor if this is MSI's official stance on the issue then what you're asking of you customers that are builbing new systems is that they have another card on hand to update the bios with before installing the gtx card.  That may not be much for veteran system builders like me, but many people that are building their first system or even those whos graphics have died or had integrated graphics on their last system, will get hit by this.) I say all this not to be confrontational just to point out the catch 22 that MSI is putting it's customers in.
What I want to know is if we can be sure enough that this is going to resolve the issue that I can be assured that when I get off work and home and try this (after tiger direct closes) I won't have to wait until tomorrow to go return the part.
Basically, if you're sure then that's good enough for me.
Also, on your link I do not see windows 8 support for the driver.  This does work in Windows 8 correct?

  • Asus P8B75-M LE and MSI GTX 660 Ti OC V1

I recently bought an Asus P8B75-M LE and an MSI GTX 660 Ti OC V1, and i'm experiencing some problems. I get a picture, but i can't get past the bios. It says i need to enable CSM due to "compatibility issues" (or something), but i already did. I have no idea what's going on, and nothing seems to work. Is it the drivers? Or do i need a new mobo? (I think it's an UEFI bios) Do i need to send a GOP / UEFI Vbios request? I should also note that i am very new to these kind of things.
    Specs:
    CPU - Intel i5 3570k (stock fan).
GPU - MSI GTX 660 Ti OC V1.
    RAM - Corsair 8GB 1600Mhz Vengeance.
PSU - Corsair HX750W Professional Series.

Clear the CMOS of your board and retry: >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
If no help we can see for a GOP vbios if you follow the guide (>>GOP / UEFI Vbios requests - Read Here First<<)
You should also update your mainboard bios to the latest version as it is dated 2013/03/20
Alright, i'll try that. Thanks.  But how do i send a GOP / UEFI Vbios request if i'm not able to get past the bios?

Installed my new GTX 980. One problem that came up is intermittant crashing when all screens flash black followed by an error code "3" stating there is a problem with the video driver. • Ms(8871) and Nvidia driver (44.03) problem

    Hi.
    I have the Gf4 ti4400 (8871) and ive install the driver 44.03.
My problem is when im Logging in my users account in windows xp. It seem like the card trying to detect all the availlable addapter. when its doing this, the screen is flashing a little bit (like other drivers do) and then im ready to work with the computer. But with this driver (4403) when its flashing a bit, the sound gettin repeattitive like: ta di da-da-da-da-da ti da....
Its a little problem but anoying. It didnt do that with all the drivers before.
    Anyone have a solution?
    Ghislain

    Ok i found the problem.
What i think is that in the 44.03 nvidia change the ay they read the configuration of the monitor attached to the card.
the problem is that i have a old 20 inch monitor t hat use BNC connection and ive read that this kind of connection is not plug and play with the card. So that mean the card can't read the info of the monitopr so the card retry 2-3 time and this is waht causing the flashing et the sound distortion.
How i found this? simple!  i just read what i say to you on the net and ive switch with a monitor with normal plug and it work!!
I dont know if nvidia is aware of this but maybe someone should talk to them about this issue...
I hope this help many user who was in my condition and that tech support is happy to learn somthing from a simple users  :D

  • Question re Zone Alarm and WRT54G admin page display problem

First - thanks to all who posted about Zone Alarm - I was going to exchange my router this weekend - I spent an hour on the phone with tech support and she was trying to get my router updated with v9 through a roundabout way, but I kept getting an error that said my Flash could not be erased - so she thought the firware on my router was somehow corrupted. But I'm definitely going to check out the Zone Alarm idea first.
My question is - can someone tell me exactly how to disable Zone Alarm? I thought I had done so, but I guess not - I'm not very familiar with Zone Alarm. Also - I had purchased Zone Alarm about a year ago, (was using it with a Linksys wired router) and suddenly I am getting messages on restart telling me my "trial period is up" - of course I can't find my original packaging to enter a serial number (altho one is already entered and they say it's not *valid*) so I have to select an option that tells me I am no longer protected. (unless I pay another $40 to re-register it!!) Could this be part of the problem?
Final question - sorry for being such a newbie - but do I really need both Zone Alarm and the firewall in the router?  ZA says it has caught thousands of attempts on my system - while it was running with my non-wireless router installed - is that a crock? Or is actually good to have both software and hardware routers?  And if I do need ZA still - does it have to be disabled everytime I want to access the admin page? Then turned back on?
    ugh!
    thanks -
    Mary

LOL - This forum is great, I've been here 5 minutes and now have some fresh perspectives on a couple of problems.
I would NOT recommend paying for ZA. What the heck were they thinking when they created their 'Zones'? They should have named it something else for one, like 'Complicated rules and policies that are guaranteed to hack up everything you try to do (and it gets even worse when you restore the settings you tweaked back to their defaults)' But I guess that's a little too long.
Marynospam: Your Windows firewall (if ur on windows) will do a pretty good job of keeping out unwanted visitors from the Internet. It will NOT stop malware from calling out! Modern day scumbags slip you a trojan that will spy, record, copy, and call them back with whatever they want from you. If you are using Microsoft Windows DO NOT TURN OFF your 3rd party firewall! Of the firewall/security vendors I have experience with, McAfee is the best. I have only used their firewall and viruscan, and don't have experience with their 'spyware' package.

  • Accelerating Video Compression w/NVIDIA GTX 285, Mac Pro?

I want to harness the powarrr of the 8 cores and NVIDIA GTX 285 to transcode video to and from various formats. But I don't see OpenCL support listed for Final Cut 7's Compressor. I don't see any mention that Adobe Media Encoder CS4 is accelerated by such GPUs. I'm trying out Toast right now and it's using less than two cores, and going kinda slow (not booted into Snow Leopard at the moment tho).
So the question is, how can I take advantage of the extra power of the GTX 285 for encoding? I know that Qmaster and Compressor will take advantage of the extra cores... but I want to use the FULL power of this battlestation.
    Thanks for any tips

  • Gtx 660 for my hpe-112y

ok so im wondering if this card would work with my computer here are its specshttp://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-660/specifications  here is the power supply im planning on getting http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7906002&CatId=1079  and finaly here are my specs http://www.cnet.com/products/hp-pavilion-elite-hpe-112y/specs/ anyway if any of thoes parts dont work with my computer pls tell me and possibly give me a recomendation on what card and power supply to use, i want to be able to play most games at high or ultra with little frame drop.  anyways thanks for taking the time to read this!

Hi, Review this posted article.  Open up your PC and do some measuring and make sure that the graphics card will fit. While the PC is open, measure the distance between the power supply and the optical drive.  The power supply that you are considering is 1.6" longer. This would compress the space between the power supply and the optical drive making cabling very tight and perhaps bending the cables too much.  I would suggest that you consider the Corsair CX600 or CS650m as they match up better is physical size with the existing power supply. The NVIDIA GTX 660 is an excellent graphics card for PCs that have a legacy BIOS.  The newer top tier cards will not run in your PC. If you are not sure that the NVIDIA GTX 660 has sufficient performance then try one or more game simulators that are available on the internet. These HP How-to articles should be helpful. The existing processor and memory should be sufficient for most modern games.

  • Rescue and Recovery display problem

I'm running Rescue and Recovery 4.21.0016.00 and when I boot the R&R rescue media boot disk I come up with the screen that shows the options however the the image is too big to fit the screen. I've tried 2 different monitors but the program makes the image size too large so that I can't see all the options and pick what I wnat to do. I'm  running this on a IBM Netvista 8307-GU6. Any ideas out there????????

I found another post for the same problem and found the fix. went into the BIOS and increased the display memory and that fixed my display problem. Now if I can just find out why the R&R program won't recognize the backup file when I boot from the CD I'll be happy. The backup file is on a USB drive and when I look at it from the Windows XP side it shows it being there but booting from the CD there are no backup files to restore from.  Any ideas????

  • Photoshop CC 2014 (fresh installed and updated) does not recognize my graphic processor (NVIDIA GTX 840)

Photoshop CC 2014 (fresh installed and updated) does not recognize my graphic processor (NVIDIA GTX 840) but instead only a Intel HD 4600. How do I ensure that PS is using the full phardware power of my notebook. My OS is WIN 8.1 Thanks for your help, Meik

In the end it was the NVIDIA software - excluding PS as application for support by high performance graphic processor to save energy - activated NVIDIA card use for PS & LR all fine now.

  • Photoshop CS5 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 Crash

    My specifications:
    Photoshop CS5 (x64)
    Windows 7 x64
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 (latest v197.45 driver)
    Intel i7 920 2.67 GHz
My card is listed as a tested card for CS5 and NVIDIA says this is compatible with CS5, but today after using it, my screen went blank and the display driver recovered itself. It took about 5 minutes until Photoshop CS5 became responsive again and the GPU features were disabled. I am going to try GPU advanced mode and basic mode instead of normal mode to see what happens, but this is a shame that I have issues like this. I also had issues with CS4 like this.
What I did to cause this issue: I clicked" Place.." to place an object and that is when it crashed. It only happens randomly as I use Photoshop. Please NVIDIA or Adobe fix this issue. I love the GPU features and I want to run them, but this crashing is annoying for spending so much on buying this product. I hate to have to pay to contact Adobe technical support, it should be included with the purchase of software!
How to fix this without having to go to basic GPU mode or disabled GPU mode?

With my own problems and a keen observer of this thread it making me think that I should stay away from Nvidia cards cards completed and go ATI
It comes down to policies within companies that in some cases we simply cannot know.
    For example:
Does nVidia or ATI have a better plan to support cards with new drivers into the future?  My experience is that right now, with my particular video card, ATI does a better job of making new features available (and making them work right) than nVidia.  Is this based on support policy or simply what the engineers can and can't do?  Maybe it's partially a matter of funding.
Who has a better handle on how to develop unified software and keep it working on all a whole family of cards?  What is their software quality?  I am active on Windows forums, and it sure seemed to take nVidia a lot longer to stabilize their drivers for Windows 7 than ATI.
Who has a better test lab?  You can imagine that if one company has a better built/funded/maintained test lab, they're more likely to make new versions of drivers for old cards work properly if they have a computer set aside somewhere with that old card in it just waiting to try out new drivers.  Unfortunately you can imagine with these companies making many, many new models all the time that funding that lab (and funding the MAINTENANCE of that lab) could get to be HUGE!
Lastly, how much do Marketing or other greedy business people influence company direction, vs. Engineers?  Imagine a Marketing person's thoughts:  "Stop making new drivers for that old card; we're not selling those and haven't for a long time.  If a person has one and can't run the latest game or graphics software, he'll go buy a new one, and that's more money for us."
By the way, just to get an idea of how many different cards we're talking about, look at the sheer number of models listed in the various lists on this page:  http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
    Just food for thought.

  • Open Gl Issue with Nvidia GTX 460 & Photoshop cs5

open gl has become disabled and preferences window doesn't show the detected video. card cache level is set to 4. help>system info still shows the card and drivers but I can't use any of the open gl features. I have already downloaded installed the latest drivers so Im not so sure that that would be the problem.
I know my graphics card supports it because I was using the rotate tool on this same document yesterday. How ever when i started it up today It no longer worked. I haven't installed anything since I used the rotate tool last (except for the latest drivers for my nvideo geforce gtx 460 gfx card, how ever this was an attempt to fix the problem)
I tried running the 64 bit verision of Ps but the results were the same.
    My system is running
    windows 7 64 bit
Intel core 2 duo 3.0 Ghz (dual core processor)
    8 GB ddr2 ram
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 460
(with 2 identical moniters connected via dvi)
Adobe Creative Suite CS5 Design Premium
Wacom Bamboo pen and touch w/ matching drivers
Belkin N52TE gaming pad with photoshop short cuts mapped to it.
Im not sure what else I can list that might be related
I made no system changes since the last time i ran photoshop.
I unplugged the wacom tablet for 5 minutes last night in order to install the drivers on another computer and when it was done i moved it back (Im fairly sure this couldn't have caused it but better to give all the info i guess...)
I would greatly apreciate any help you might be able to offer.

some one i know suggested that I try an older driver in case it was a bug with the latest one. I did so and once again It worked untill i closed photoshop. I closed and reopened the program to test it and sure enough when i reopened it all open gl functionality was gone once again. I don't believe nvidia drivers are the problem because i have tried 3 different version with the same results. each one works untill i close photoshop and the second time i open photoshop it quits working.
do any of you at adobe have any idea what might be causing this?

  • Photoshop CS6 doesn't recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M GPU?

I just bought a brand new Alienware M17x R4 with Windows 8 Pro x64 and Photoshop CS6 won't recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M GPU?
I've already updated Windows 8, Photoshop and the Nvidia graphics driver.
Any ideas?  I spent so much on a nice graphics card but now it seems PS CS6 can't even use it.  It's using the Intel HD4000 instead:
    I also tried this:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4545768#4545768
And deleted the settings but that didn't help.
According to this, my graphics card should work, it's a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M, which is a 600 series GPU:  http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html#tested_cards
Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6
Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CS6. This document lists the video card by series. The minimum amount of RAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CS6 is 256 MB. Photoshop 13.1 cannot display 3D features if you have less than 512 MB VRAM on your video card.
Important: This document is updated as newly released cards are tested. However, Adobe cannot test all cards in a timely manner. If a video card is not listed here, but was released after May 2012, you can assume that the card will work with Photoshop CS6.
Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model. (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)
    nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 series
I've run out of ideas.  Any suggestions?

    Okay, I figured it out...duh.
    My bad...or rather, Nvidia's bad!
In their app profiler, they set Photoshop to use the "default" settings, which defaults to the integrated graphics.  By changing the profile to make it use the discreet graphics, it worked!
This also fixed my issue of the background flashing / flickering.
    I know that's a known bug with Windows 8 + AMD (http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/image-background-transparent-or-flickers.html)
However, Adobe should look into this same bug occuring with the Intel HD4000 integrated GPU, because this happened with my laptop.
Maybe that bug doesn't occur on systems that only have an integrated GPU, but on systems with Optimus, it's definitely a reproducible issue.
When I switch back to integrated, the issue pops up again.
It's nice that Nvidia provides an option for us to either use the integrated or discreet graphics, however, Adobe needs to follow through and make sure that Photoshop doesn't wig out when we're using the integrated GPU.  Sometimes, your customers need to do work on battery power, so the integrated flickering /flashing /transparent background bug definitely needs to be fixed.
Personally, I can get 6hrs out of this laptop running the integrated GPU, but when I use the discreet, that cuts it down to only 2hrs.
