Photoshop JPEGs show a magenta touch in Lightroom

Hello!
I just noticed that when saving a JPG in Photoshop it will have a slight magenta touch when viewing it in Lightroom.
Have a look at the screenshot from Lightroom comparing two images: http://www7.file-upload.net/11.11.07/viqz5z.jpg.
Left image is a JPG which has been imported into Lightroom. It was created by exporting a RAW to a TIFF using LR, loading it into PS and saving it there as JPG.
The right one is a TIFF that has been imported after exporting it by LR itself. But I also tested a JPG created by exporting it from LR as well as saving above TIFF in PS to a TIFF. I additionally tried saving TIFFs exported by LR into JPG by Paint Shop Pro and XnView.
Result: every image looks the same in each application with one exception−said JPG from PS viewed in LR.
It's only a subtle touch of magenta but it's annoying given you're trimming around quite a bit and get that effect.
Those images where exported with sRGB and this colour space was kept all the time. But also happens if using no colour space or the ProPhoto one. Photoshop is CS3, Lightroom is 1.2.
Any ideas what could be the reason and how to prevent that?
Regards,
Johannes

>I just noticed that when saving a JPG in Photoshop it will have a slight magenta touch when viewing it in Lightroom.
Well, I thought the problem was gone but yesterday I noticed it's there (again?).
More methodic tests together with dumb trying now brought a pattern to light. Lightroom only displays the magenta touch when the JPG was saved by Photoshop using the "progressiv" format option set under JPEG options when exporting. It doesn't when it was saved "using baseline" or "optimized baseline".
That's still pretty strange, but reproducable with different images. Anyway, it would be great if some of you could test that.
For simplicity you can use this image: http://www11.file-upload.net/15.02.08/qktukp.png
Load it into PS (CS3 here), save it as baseline JPG and as progressiv JPEG and load them both into LR. Here I only see the effect in the grey patch but it's measurable in the red and green as well with the eye dropper tool.

  • Photoshop JPEGS showing up as BMPs in Windows

We are trying to produce a JPEG (in CS2) for a web developer who's using an older version of Dreamweaver (MX) in Windows. He's telling us that our Photoshop .JPGs are showing up as .BMP files when he receives them as Email attachments. We've never encountered this problem before. We've tried saving the JPEGs directly with "Save As", or through the "Save for Web" dialog--same result. They're 8 bit color. Are we doing something stupid?

You were giving the answer in post #2.
    Try reading this specific post:
Ken Vogel, "Mac Jpegs cannot open in PC environment since Leopard" #2, 27 Mar 2008 8:19 am
The answer is there. The culprit appears to be a recent patch to Windoze Outlook on the PC side, but the issue can be fixed by changing the encoding in the Mac application.
All of this has nothing to do with Adobe or Photoshop.

  • Photoshop images showing as sepia in lightroom help me please

hi i'm working on black and white medium format images i've cropped and added text in photoshop cc but when i import to lightroom they have a sepia tone can anyone help with this thank you

You have not provided any system info or other details like what image files, so no, nobody can really help you. The blanket answer would be that you are not using color management, but that's pretty much all. Ask in the LR/ PS forums and provide the required details.

  • Export to jpeg:  Show jpeg file size prior to export

Photoshop save to jpeg dialog box shows the jpeg file size associated with each jpeg compression level (1 - 12).  Lightroom export dialog box does not show jpeg file size.  Showing the expected jpeg file size is useful when needing to limit file size while maximizing jpeg quality.  For example, some email applications limit attachment file size; some photo hosting sites (e.g., Zenfolio) limit file size to 12mb.  If I export a cr2 file at 100 quality, it may result in a file size of 14mb.  However, I cannot determine this until after I export.  Then I may try 90 quality and find that the resulting file size is only 8mb.  So, I try 95 quality, and get a 12.5mb file.  This iterative process is a waste of time.  I need to se the file size resulting from each jpeg quality setting in the export dialog box.

I have tried trashing the plist file. The files look fine through the media manager when copied to the other profile. They look like they are suppose to. The small videos also look fine when played on that computer. Unfortunately our other mac pro computer doesn't have final cut so i can't open and play proress files and my laptop, due to the extreme resolution can't be played on my laptop with final cut studio installed. Tomorrow i'm going to install the proress decoder on the one mac pro to check the files and make sure the self contained is checked but i'm almost positive on that. Other than nuking the profile i don't know what else to do. This is really weird.

When I have finished working on an image in Photoshop and I hit the "save" button, it goes instead to the "save as" screen. This never happened in previous Photoshop versions. When I get to Lightroom, I have a grey screen the says "File could not be found." I then have to go to "locate" to get the image. When I select the correct image, I get a message that it is not the same file name but I am eventually able to access the image. Needless to say this is having a negative impact on workflow!

The problem with write permissions for the OneDrive folder only shows up in Lightroom 6's export dialogue, that's why it's to irritating. Lightroom 5.7.1 is not having that problem nor does the file explorer. The problem also exists on both of my machines. I will try to check for other problems with the OneDrive troubleshooter though: Running the OneDrive troubleshooter - Windows Help

  • Iphoto says Unrecognizable format when importing a photoshop JPEG RGB

Hi there, I've tried several times to import my adobe photoshop jpeg files into iphoto. My goal here is to simply burn my jpegs on to a cd and to do that I'm trying to import them into iphoto to burn them. However, my adobe photoshop jpegs won't import. Other threads mention that the files should be RGB and I ensured that they were in photoshop but it still shows that my jpegs are unrecognizable formats. I feel like I'm ALMOST there and missing one piece to be able to import them successfully. Something else to mention is that I don't NEED them to be Adobe photoshop jpegs. I just want them to be normal jpegs. I feel like is what's preventing them from importing into iphoto. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help!

I've tried your suggestion. It doesn't work. I can only access a modified Photoshop picture through finder and its in a "modified" folder by year. I've been trying all sorts of "tricks" and the only one that seems to work is to save the photoshop file to a separate folder within the "Pictures" folder, and then to import the file into iphoto.
That is correct - you must Never make any changes to the contents of the iPhoto library including saving photos to it - all photos MUST be imported into iPhoto
It's a frustrating additional step and for anyone that does multiple changes to a file in Photoshop, this can end up being a pain in the rear.
You can import the original photo to iPhoto and set PS as the editor for iPhoto - edit and save (not save as) and the edited photo will be properly returned to iPhoto

after editing in photoshop cs6 my photoshop edited image does not appear in Lightroom 4 can anyone help?

In Library, set your sort order to Filename instead of Added order and see if the files show up, then.
How are you doing the Save in PS, using Save or Save As—one will show up, one won’t, I think, but I don’t remember which.

  • Photoshop Jpeg Files

Hi. I've recently installed Photoshop CS4 Extended on my new Imac. I am a photographer and have saved a number of edited Jpeg images into my Pictures folder on my Mac in order to upload onto a Color Labs Site for printing. I have never had a problem uploading any images on my windows based laptop. All of my edited Jpeg Images are now saved as "Photoshop Jpeg Files" I am now unable to export any of these images as the files do not appear to be recognised when I attempt to open them. Additionally, I can't even import them into Lightroom 2 as it comes up as No photos to import. Please can somebody help....

Yes it sounds like somethings wrong with the jpg pictures- sure you really saved them as jpg and not just naming them as such by fault?
Secondly, I've experienced some windows based servers not be able to recognise jpg saved with a Mac-preview.
So you could try saving your files with no preview.
    Torben.

  • How do I set up photoshop to work with a touch screen?

    Hi,
I just bought a 15.6" Asus Q500A touchscreen laptop with Windows 8. I downloaded photoshop and the 'touch app plug-ins' through the Adobe Application Manager for creative cloud. When I open a file in PS and select the brush(or any other) tool if I use the touch screen to drag it accross the canvas nothing happens. It still works with my mouse though.
How can I get this to work properly?

That does not surprise me. As I wrote Photoshop does not support Touch. It has supports for graphic tablets pens with wintab device drivers. It has support for mice and keyboards. No where do I see touch support documented in Photoshop manual. Here is a link to Photoshop manual search it for touch, http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/photoshop_reference.pdf  The closest thing  I found to touch support is the following:
    ========================================================================================== =======
    Use the Rotate View tool
You use the Rotate View tool to rotate the canvas non-destructively; it does not transform the image. Rotating the canvas can be useful for any
number of reasons, including facilitating easier painting or drawing. (OpenGL is required.)
You can also use rotate gestures on MacBook computers with multi-touch trackpads.
    1. In the toolbox, select the Rotate View tool . (If the tool isn’t visible, hold down the Hand tool.)
    2. Do any of the following:
Drag in the image. A compass will indicate north in the image, regardless of the current canvas angle.
In the options bar, enter degrees in the Rotation Angle field. Click or drag the circular Set Angle of Rotation control.
    3. To restore the canvas to the original angle, click Reset View.
For a video on the Rotate View tool and other workspace tips, see www.adobe.com/go/lrvid4001_ps. (Discussion of the Rotate View tool begins at the 5:10 mark.)
    Disable trackpad gestures (Mac OS)
If you have a MacBook computer with a multi-touch trackpad, you can use the trackpad to flick, rotate, or zoom images. This functionality can
greatly increase your efficiency, but you can disable it if inadvertent changes occur.
    1. Choose Photoshop > Preferences > Interface (Mac OS).
    2. In the General section, deselect Enable Gestures

My Wacom Intuos 5 Touch device driver has some touch support for some Photoshop features.  I do not try to finger paint I use the Wacom pen for that.  I also do not get the strange finger paint in Photoshop when I use my finger to move the mouse cursor with the Wacom Intuos 5 touch support. Starting outside an image window or inside one,
However if I add two finger support add tap to click I can finger paint and also use other tools.  However I'm not into finger paint so I do not configure Touch support that way for Photoshop.

  • Lion Automator - Photoshop not showing up in applications list

I am brand new to the Mac world and trying desperately to figure out everything.
I have searched high and low for some sort of help/tutorial/google search on Automator and am coming up empty.
I am running Lion on a brand new MacBook Pro along with Photoshop CS5 v. 12.1.  I have installed Photoshop Automator 5.0 as well.
When I open Automator, in the libraries under application view mode, Photoshop is not showing in the list.  The Photoshop Automator actions do show in the main library list in Automator, however, the association icon is a gray X.
How do I get Photoshop to show as an application?  I can't even get Automator to open Photoshop.
I am praying that you will be able to help me.  Please let me know what additional information you need in order to help.
    Thanks in advance!

    Your help, please...
iTunes 9.0.1 is not showing my iPod Touch since I installed OS 10.5.8.
Your ideas are welcome, because I'm out of them.
    Thank you,

It looks like part of the crash report is missing. But at the top of your message it states there's an issue with the xmlTextReader in Pages. I guess this means Pages is having trouble opening, closing or saving the document.
If this only happens with one Pages document then it may just be corrupt.
If this happens with any Pages document then I'd suggest deleting Pages, reinstalling it from DVD/Mac App Store, updating it and then trying to work with a document.
If this doesn't answer your question please provide more information eg what steps to take to cause the problem, if it happens with one or many documents, if you get any error message at all, etc.

Because I listened to Adobe earlier today about whither uninstalling Elements would affect Photoshop and Lightroom on my computer, Lightroom no longer sees Photoshop in the EDIT IN Menu of Lightroom. I found an article on the help site saying to delete the filecom.adobe.Photoshop.plist, which I looked for, its not there so it can't be deleted. The next step is to uninstall Photoshop and reinstall. This isn't an option because of all the plug-ins and modifications of the work space. Does any one have a better solution?

    Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?
