Photoshop sequence to iMovie

I have a series of 400 still images taken from a video camera which I have saved as individual TIFFs (I will convert to JPEG)- I am doing some work on these images in Pshop - adding lights and lighting effects and would then like to import them back into iMovie and run as a movie sequence again. However when I try to import the pix I keep getting a default "hold" on each frame and I can't seem to get the duration down to one frame ie one twety-fifth of a second.
Get the feeling I'm being dumb and ignoring something fundamental here !
Your expert thoughts would be most appreciated

You can open an image sequence like that in QuickTime Player Pro via File/Open Image Sequence... Just take care that the files are named so that they open in the correct order and that you import them with the desired frame rate (PAL 25 fps and NTSC 29.97 fps).
Then export as DV stream (NTSC or PAL).
You can also do the opposite by exporting a .dv clip as an image sequence so you can edit individual frames in another app.
If you create images from scratch in an image editing app, then it is best to create them as PAL 720x576 or NTSC 720x480 so there is no scaling needed when converting them to .dv. You may use a non-square pixel aspect ratio in the editing app so you see the same aspect ratio as is the end result when viewed on a TV with rectangular pixels.

  • Photoshop sequences not sized appropriately when dragging to main sequence

I am working with photoshop layers in a sequence, which I am bringing into the main sequence. When I size them in the viewer and apply wireframe motion to them, they play just fine (and look fine) in that sub-sequence.
When I move that sequence from the viewer into the main sequence, they are totally oversized. I have configured each window (viewed and canvas) "fit to window". They move off the window in the main sequence but in the photoshop sequence, they are sized properly.
I have tried resizing them in the main sequence but it doesn't seem to work unless you resize in the sub-sequence first.
Please help....I have been pulling out my hair on this and even set up a ProCare with the local Apple FCE expert. They couldn't help.
    Thanks!

You didn't say but I'm assuming you're working in DV NTSC.
Your PSD sequence is much larger, and the wrong aspect ratio, compared to your video. It bears no resemblance to it. You're make a very large sequences, making your animation in it, and placing in inside a much smaller sequence. The two don't match at all. Fit to window is not relevant. The PSD window is based on an image 1150x1718, and that's the Canvas the PSD sequence uses. Your edited sequence is 720X480 and that's its Canvas size. Fit to window just means make the Canvas display fit the size of the window you've create for it in the application. It doe not scale the images to fit the Canvas.
I don't know exactly what you're doing, but it would be easier for you if you made the images the right size in Photoshop to start with. Or you could copy and paste from inside the PSD sequence into the edited sequence, which will automatically scale the material to fit the window, and you can animate the layers in the edited sequence. This may or may not work for you depending on your material.

  • I want to import one imovie project into another one.  In other words, I have created a short sequence in iMovie 11 on one computer, and I want to import it into a project that I am working on, on another computer.

I want to import one imovie project into another one.  In other words, I have created a short sequence in iMovie 11 on one computer, and I want to import it into a project that I am working on, on another computer.  I copied the project files onto a hard drive, and then connected that drive to the Mac that my main project is on, but when I select "import" the files are faint gray -meaning I can't select them.  Help!  I want to transfer a sequence of shots from one iMovie 11 project on one computer, into another iMovie 11 project on another computer.

    Tell me it ain't so!
I wish I could.  The research you've done is correct.
Wether you copy and paste or rebuild the Project from the other computer, you're going to need to get your Evnets copied from the other computer.
The Prjoject files only contain pointer back to the original media.

  • How do you export a movie to an image sequence in iMovie 10.0.4?

    Hi,
I'm trying to create an animated gif.  In order to do so I need to export my short two-second movie as a sequence of .jpg's or .png's.  This was possible in earlier versions, but I can't find it on this one.
I'm using an iMac with OS 10.9.4 running iMovie 10.0.4
If it isn't possible in iMovie 10.0.4, is there another way to create a sequence of images from a short movie using native tools?
    Thank you!

    I see.
I know that QuickTime Pro can do it.
    https://www.apple.com/quicktime/extending/
    But that's a $29.99 purchase.
Not sure about the regular QuickTime Player 7
QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later
There's also something called Movie2Picture in the Mac App store that I think will do it, but I have no experience with it.
Lastly, check out MPEG Streamclip it's free and I bet it will export to an image sequence, though I haven't tried it.

  • Still Frame altered in Photoshop resizes in iMovie

    Hello,
When I export a still frame as a pict file from iMovie and then edit that still frame in photoshop (resaved as a pict file), the file imports back into iMovie resized. It enlarges a bit more than the previous still frame. Does anyone know how to avoid this resize issue?
    Thanks for any help

I am not at home now to verify or play with it first hand, but if I was to take a guess it would probably be because of the 640 vs. 720 conversion iMovie does behind the scenes with the horizontal pixels. See TVs use rectangular pixels while computers use square pixels. TV pixels are slightly taller than wide or put another way, the pixels are thinner than on a computer. So 720 thin TV pixels equal about 640 square computer pixels. What iMovie does is it will show you everything on your screen as 640 horizontal pixels so everything looks correct (height to width ratio looks right and nothing is stretched or squished), but really everything in iMovie is 720 pixels wide because that is the format needed for standard TV sets.
So because of this, and since Apple wants everything very simple for this application, when you import still images, it expects 640x480 (for North American TV; PAL has a different vertical size), which it then will (behind the scenes) convert to 720 thin/TV pixels. If you import something other than that, iMovie will resize accordingly.
OK so here is what I am not sure of but am speculating might be going on but can not check at the moment. When you select a frame and export that frame as a still image, I am guessing you really are getting a 720x480 image. This would be noticeable when opened in your image editor in that the image should now look a bit stretched out horizontally (yes, the camera really does add 10 lbs!). Now you do your edits, save the image which is still 720x480. When you import this image back to iMovie, it sees 720, is expecting 640 and resizes accordingly, so your image ends up pinched in (gets thinner). So on the screen it will tend to look like it got taller, when in fact it instead got pinched from the sides. Is that what you are seeing?
Again I am only guessing here and maybe saving a still out of iMovie gives you a 640x480, in which case none of what I said above applies.
However if it all sounds correct above, then the solution is after you open the file in Photoshop, resize it and this is one of those rare times where you actually want to UNCHECK the box that keeps the ratio of the photo the same. So now you tell it to resize from 720 to 640 but not to change the 480 dimension. Your photo should now look normal (not stretched out) and after editing, saving, and re-importing to iMovie should look correct.

  • Pictures stops sequencing in iMovie Timelapse

    Hi
I have a problem trying to make a timelapse with iMovie. I have read somewhere else that this problem is quite common but I can't find any solution to it..
I have loaded the photos to use into iPhoto and from there into iMovie who has made thumbnails also.
The same problem occured when I tried to make some slideshows of pictures earlier in iMovie, then I had rather long duration on each picture; 4 seconds. I have made another timelapse earlier with no problem. But now it's just giving me a serious headace and editing movies and timelapses are a little of the reason I bought this computer.
What happens is that 2/3 down in the timelapse the pictures stop sequencing, the same picture just re-occur all the time. And down at the line where you edit the pictures, duration etc it just shows only the last picture supposed to be in the time lapse.
This is a bug, error in iMovie?
    Thank you for any support

  • Copy text from photoshop, paste in iMovie?

can this be done? To paste overtop video clips. I just don't like the iMovie titling system.
    Thanks.

Technically speaking you can not...but if you are creative enough you can do just about anything.
I have often created static titles using some nice multiple layers in PS. Save it as a .jpg and import into the project. Using a combination of ken burns, some cross dissolves, and even some Matte f/x from Gee Three you can do some really cool stuff. If you create multiple images and then set their duration to the minimum, you can even create the illusion of the images animating.
Just gotta think outside of the box.

  • PhotoShop size for iMovie 4

When we import 640x480 .pict graphics from PS into iMovie 4 we get black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. What should our PS template screen size be to fit the iMovie screen exactly?

What you must do, unfortunately is tweak the Ken Burns effect 'zoom' and 'alignment' settings to situate your images properly.
Zoom using the blue toggle bar with the small photo icon at one end and the large photo icon at the other end.
Align your image by clicking on the image in the small preview window and dragging the desired area into view.
You shouldn't have to do all this, but you do.
Gotta disagree with most of that. It's definitely NOT necessary to "do all this" each time you use Ken Burns. If a user has previously changed the Ken Burns pan for an image, then Yes, the user must UN-change it as I described above. But normally that's not necessary.
Ken Burns has very useful feature that's involved here. KB "remembers" your last Ken Burns settings, which lets you apply them to your NEXT photo import(s). In other words, KB accepts your current setting as the default setting for all future imports, until you want to change the default. Very convenient.
You can change the current KB settings by (a) re-configuring the Ken Burns controls, or (b) clicking on a clip previously imported with the Ken Burns settings you like, or (c) reverting to the default KB settings as I described above.
That's all good stuff, not a problem, in my opinion.
It's unlikely the Ken Burns settings are causing the problem Dewey described, for he's seeing black bars on both the top and bottom edges. To the best of my knowledge, it's impossible to create that with Ken Burns on a 640x480 image. That IS what you get, however, by importing an image that does not have a 4:3 aspect ratio, so I'd first check the dimensions of the image. A 5:3 aspect ratio will cause it, for example.
He might also try trashing the iMovie preference file. iMovie stores the "current" KB settings there, and it's possible those or something else is corrupted. (Be sure to quit iMovie before discarding the file.)

  • Refreshing a photo in iMovie after editing it.

I built an image sequence in iMovie, but would like to go back and fix some flaws in some of the photo's. I right-click on an image, select "Reveal in Finder", and then fix and re-save the image over the original with Photoshop. The copies in iPhoto are changed (iPhoto is where I dragged the images from into iMovie originally), but how do I get the photo's in iMovie to refresh and reflect the changes without manually deleting and replacing them?

The "Edit In" option of Lightroom is the usual way. This creates a new image that PS / Elements can work with. The starting image and the new image (showing the results of your editing, once those are saved) both then appear in Lightroom.
Exporting does not pair up LR and Elements (or other image editing program) in quite the same easy and transparent way.
As to the Layers query: probably the most usual format chosen for external editing is TIFF, but PSD is also used. Both preserve any layers intact when saved (unlike JPG) allowing returning to a layered file for further editing in the future. These editing files include a further fullsize preview, if layered (this is unnecessary for a flattened file, in which case LR can just read that Background layer directly).
The preview is a losslessly compressed full colour bitmap, updated at each time of saving, representing the then-current combined appearance of the "layer stack" as seen within Elements.
Lightroom cannot understand about whatever pixel and adjustment layers, layer interactions and effects etc the file may contain -  but it doesn't need to, because it can look at the "compatibility" preview instead.

  • Flash to quicktime to iMovie...

I'm working on a slideshow of a trip to Ghana that some students took. I thought it would be cool to stick an Indiana Jones style map sequence in. I did the sequence in Flash MX and exported it to Quicktime. No problems there -- looks great. I'm doing the slideshow portion of the project in iPhoto. I export the slideshow (also into quicktime), and open it with iMovie. I've done it lots of times before, and I've always been happy with the results. I use iMovie because I'm able to use more than one song. We're talking close to 800 slides here. I've done this several times in the past with smaller projects, but still longer than the one song iPhoto allows (15-20 min). The problem I'm having now is that when I imort the quicktime file of my map sequence into iMovie, it becomes very pixalated. I've tried changing the aspect ratio, but still had the same effect. Does anyone have an idea how I can do this? I've done similar things in the past, and this is starting to drive me nuts!

as far as I know, Flash uses vector grafix, but video is pixel grafix...
video is 720x480, so it can, due to standards, not be as "crisp" as a Flash on a computer's monitor...
I've done a Flash>>video conversion with QTpro once or twice... gave up, never looked acceptable (my standards...).
It is better to do the anims in designated pixel apps as Photoshop, Carrara, Cinema4D, use video-apps with keyframe ability as FinalCutExpress or use cute plug-ins as this one:
    Geethree's Travel Log
besides, one of my silly workarounds:
make a mix of your music in Garageband/Audacity/audio edit app of designated length, use THAT in iPhoto...

  • How to update stills in iMovie?

    Hi!
I finished my video in iMovie'09 based on still photographs.
After reviewing the results, I decided to retouch some of the photographs.
I opened iMovie, right clicked each photo, selected "Reveal in Finder" and updated the photo using Photoshop.
However, iMovie is not updating the photos after I change them.
If I select a photo in iMovie and click the "Reveal in finder", in Finder I see it changed, but not in iMovie. I even tried to export the movie to see if it would use the updated stills, but it did not.
How can I update my movie without having to recreate the entire sequence or change each photo individually?
    Thanks in advance

I did some research into this and I don't have good news for you. When you create a new project in iMovie it creates a project file inside the Movies/iMovie Projects folder inside your home directory. This project file is actually a package file which you can look into if you right-click it and choose Show Package Contents.
What I found is that when you add a photo to your project, iMovie creates a QuickTime movie file inside this package and adds the photo to it. It then refers to this QuickTime movie from then on. I tried deleting this QuickTime movie from the package to see if iMovie would recreate it from the original photo files. But it doesn't. In fact in my test project of 4 photos, the whole project disappeared from the iMovie Project list after I deleted the QuickTime movie file and then restarted iMovie.
There doesn't seem to be a way to do what you want but I'm ready to be corrected.

  • IMovie 6 HD - TV Screen Images are blurred

How do I created iMovie DVD that plays clear images and text?
I do not want to keep wasting DVDs experimenting for clear result.
I created iMovie per instructions from another post:
    imported screenshots of website using KenBurns effect;
set the effect to 1.0 to stop zooming, and did not allow iMovie to render movie when exporting.
Discussion indicated that blurred image in iMovie would be clear on TV screen.
Imported snapshots were crystal clear in Preview and Photoshop.
Imported iMovie to iDVD and burned DVD.
DVD plays blurred images and text.

Are you saying I should size any still images at 768x576 pix before importing them into iMovie since that is TV resolution?
If you are using PAL, yes. For NTSC, the resolution is 640x480 pixels.
Does it matter what dpi the images are?
No, the dpi is of NO concern in video.
If snapshot captures screen images at 72dpi,
does it help to increase dpi of image in Photoshop?
    No.
or is that only interpolating dpi since capture was at 72dpi?
    Yes.

  • Help ... how do you stop iMovie trying to re-open the same project

I would like to try some of the new features of iMovie for myself, though I guess it will be a waste of time seeing the other comments on this board (I really need to be able to edit video and audio and not just share), but at the moment I can't.
I tried to open a project file created in iMovie 06 HD but the iMovie 08 program crashed when attempting to open the project. However, the program now doggedly tries to open the project every time I start iMovie and with the same result, it falls over.
I have sent Apple a message but the chances of them responding are about zero in my experience. Anyone know how to stop this, I have tried the Esc key and other usual break sequences but iMovie 08 is nothing if not determined.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers

    HI Robbie,
Have you tried moving the project out of iMovies Project folder?
The path is ~/Movies/iMovie Projects/project name

  • How come the "do not dispose" option in photoshop doesn't have any effect on my stopmotion animations when I import them in After Effects?

    Hi,
i'm trying to create an animation in photoshop. It's a sort of spiral shape that appears bit by bit.
I'm drawing different frames, but each frame is build onto the previous frame. So i don't have to redraw to part that came before the new part:
So first i drew all the different frames (yes they have transparent backgrounds). Then I selected all layers and went to window > animation. Here I made frames from all the layers and converted it to a frame animation. here I selected all frames and selected " do not dispose" because I want all the previous frames to stay visible when a new frame appears.
Then  I did export >render video
    file options:
    image sequence: photoshop
    range: all frames
    render opt: straight
    frame rate: 20fps
Now I get all the different layers as PSD files. After this I imported the files in after effects:
    file>import >multiple files
import as: footage, photoshop sequence, merged layers
this gives me a single animated file with all the frames behind each other. But the "do not dispose" option has no effect here. I just shows all the different frames, but it disposes all previous frames. Instead of this as a final frame:
    I get this:
Can someone help me with this? I'm kinda new to animation.

An image sequence is an image sequence is an image sequence. AE does not care for specifics of PS' internal animation system and that is that. I'm also not clear why you choose to import as multiple files. A simple image sequence surely would do the trick?!

  • Please help with importing and using imovie and idvd

    Hi,
Please forgive my lack of knowledge. I previously had a mini dv camcorder that was so easy to use with imovie hd. Now that I have switched to an HD Usb 2.0 camcorder that has built in 16gb memory and memory cards, I have had such a great deal of trouble. I really hope you can help and point me in the right directions.
Importing movies are fine, but they take so long! Currently, when I import a movie, I set the camcorder to PC mode and import through imovie. But the camcorder stays on, and I'm not sure if this is the best way or healthiest for the camcorder. Do you have a better/faster way to import movies? Is there a way to drag the video from the memory onto the computer, and then from there import the movie? I think at least I wouldn't have to leave the camcorder on.
Also, one major issue I have is that each movie is broken down into 100 or so clips. I coach basketball, and videotape the games. When there is stoppage, I pause the camcorder. I guess that creates so many clips, so that when the film is imported, there are over 100 clips for the entire movie. Is there a way of making that just 1 entire movie/clip?
Once I have imported the entire movie, which is 100+ clips, I want to simply create a dvd of the game. I know I have to share it, but do you have a better suggestion as to how I should handle this?
In the past, all I did was import the mini dv movie into imovie HD, share into idvd, and then that was it, dvd made. This process had become so time consuming.
    Please help!

Yes, I recognized there would be a slight pause between clips - but after all - you paused the camera at those points.
Putting them all in sequence in iMovie and then encoding in iDVD will take a lot of time.
An old favorite saying of mine is "not every job worth doing, is worth doing well'. The meaning being sometimes 95% is good enough so you can go on to the next job.
How much work do you want to put into each DVD? Can you live with the slight pauses?
would you suggest using a memory card?
Yes, but 16GB cards aren't cheap (yet).
