  • Passing Variables From PHP to Java Applet ?

    I took one page of a project which was written entirely in PHP, and translated it into a JAVA applet, so as to support better GUI funcitonalities (immediate calculation and display of Time/Billing data, on LostFocus events...stuff like this).
    In any case - I need to pass four variables from the php scripts, to the Java Applet. I had initially, written them out from the php scripts to an html file on the server, and read them in from the applet doing something like this:
    .     this.m_TheURL = new URL(url);
         InputStream in = m_TheURL.openStream();
         DataInputStream data = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(in));
         while ((unparsed = data.readLine()) != null)
    // parsed the strings here and got my variables
    The URL I read from, was the same file I wrote out to from the PHP scripts. This worked fine - until I told my boss about it, and realised that this wasnt going to work - because the applet updates a MySql database, and issues regarding multiple users became apparent.
    The Applet has to get these variables from the previous PHP page, the same way it had - before my applet was an applet, and it was just another PHP script page.
    The PHP pages are passing variabes using CGI, and a PostGet function. My applet has to do the same thing.
    Anybody know how I can do this - safely ?

    Updated some code... in case people wanted to use it....
    <?php
    class JavaApplet {
         var $param;
         function setParam($name, $value) {
              $temp1 =  array("name" => $name, "value" => $value);
              $this->param = array_merge($this->param, $temp1);
         function delParam($name) {
             foreach ($this->param as $key => $value) {
                  if ($key = $name) {
                       unset( $this->param["$id"]);
         function echo_html() {
              echo '<applet code=TimeEntry.class width=600 height=90 >';
              foreach ($this->param as $value) {
                   foreach ($value as $key => $value2) {
                        echo '<param name="' . $key . '" value="' . $value2 . '">';
              echo '</applet>';
    $applet = &New JavaApplet;
    $applet->setParam("name1", "value");
    $applet->setParam("name2", "value");
    $applet->setParam("name3", "value");
    $applet->echo_html();
    ?>

  • Adding a java applet in Apex page

    Hello, I am trying to add a java applet to my page. This is what I do. I create an html region with source ;
    <applet width=300 height=300 codebase="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#DrawingLines.class"></applet>
    and I upload DrawingLines.class file as a static file.
    When I run the page I see the java cup sign (with running circle around) but not the applet. Does this have to do anything with the browser security? My knowledge of Java is very limited, but I thought this should work.
    George

    I just feel like I have to answer this and I hope this is the last post in this thread.
    "I find it amusing that you have come to this forum demanding free technical support, and have posted over 200 times, but you yourself have never once answered somebody's question and gotten a helpful or correct reward"
    First of all, I have helped people on a few occasions , I don't know what kind of "helpful or correct reward" you are referring to but yes I have given useful answers and gotten "thank you" from a few members.
    Second, most of my posts are from year or more ago when I was learning Apex, I have very few posts in the last 6-12 months.
    Third, if nobody asks the questions then there will be no answers => there will be no forum. The very existence of this forum is based on people asking question so why should I be ashamed to "demand free technical hellp", isn't this what most people are doing here?
    The rest of your post is just words pretty much not saying anything (you might wanna try a carier in the politics) so I am not going to address it.
    Have a wonderful day.

  • Removing the 'Warning Java Applet' Status Bar

    Hi,
    I've written an applet that does not require access outside the sandbox so doesn't need signing. However, it pops up an instance of Window, and because it's not signed the window has a status bar across the bottom which says 'Warning Java Applet' or something similar depending on the browser. Is there any way to remove this status bar without signing the applet or changing the security settings of the browser. I guess it must be added to the window so maybe it's just a component that can be removed, but how?
    Thanks in advance

    Today the Security Warning sign appeared at the bottom of my computer screen - how do I get rid of it. I do have Java whose icon used to be in the lower right hand section of my screen - along with all the other icon programs that I have.
    Now the icon is no longer down on the bottom right of the screen, but in the middle with a Security Warning -(the wording) next to the jave icon.
    This is really annoying me - how can I get rid of it, and - why did it appear here?
    Anxiously awaiting your reply.

  • Java Control Panel wont open at all and any Java Applets crash web browsers

    Hello,
    I recently installed a fresh fully updated copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I have not for the life of me been able to get Java working at all. Java version is the latest JRE 6U31. I only have Internet Explorer 9 installed but I doubt it is a browser issue since I cannot even open the Java control panel. I have tried using the 32 bit version of Java, and the 64 bit. Anytime I try to open the Java control panel with either 32 bit or 64 bit, I get an error message (click link below to view error message):
    http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h204/gobigjeff/Java%20Error/javaerror.png
    I can only bring up the Java Control Panel using the command “javaws –viewer” . Anytime I try to load a web page with a Java applet in either 64 bit or 32 bit, it freezes and crashes. I am running Internet Explorer 9 and have tried both the 32 bit and 64 bit browser versions. I saw Java’s recommendation to only use the 32 bit version so I have mainly been trying to get the 32 bit version working 1st, with no success. I have tried ALL of the following steps, and have done some exhaustive research on this problem. It seems others have had this issue as well, with no solution to be found:
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled only Java 32 bit JRE 6u31 multiple times (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled only Java 64 bit JRE 6u31 (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Uninstalled and reinstalled bit JRE 7 (Used Javara and reg cleaner to remove all old Java traces)
    •     Used SFC /scannow in safe mode to verify Windows files
    •     Ran spyware and virus scan with no issues detected
    •     Added all java processes to windows firewall
    I am out of solutions here. If anyone has had this problem with Java or knows what I need to do to fix the problem your advice would be greatly appreciated. I don’t think reinstalling windows is the solution because this is a fresh install.

    I figured it out. I changed the installation folder to C:/Java and it finally worked!

  • Java Applet is not working in IE11 in win8/win 2008 server

    Hi,
    we have developed web application using PHP. in the start of the page we have link which will kick start the Java Applet application on click.
    It is not working in IE 11 browser with all windows machine until we add that page in the compatibility view settings.
    we have tried with many options like setting the meta tag in the start of the HTML page.
    but this is also not helped. we expect some more idea/solution to solve this issue.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Thanks.

  • Socket communication failure between Java applet and C++ application

    I have a java applet that connects to a C++ application via Java's ServerSocket and Socket objects. THe C++ application is using the Winsock 2 API. The applet and application are running on an NT workstation (SP 6) and using IE (5.5) For a very simple C++ test applications the communictions work fine. Once more code gets added to the C++ application the portion of the socket that C++ listens to seems to close. Upon performing a recv call the return value is a zero. Microsoft insists this is a sign the Java side has shut down the socket. The Java applet can still receive messages from the C++ app but C++ cannot receive responses from the Java side. Java throws no exceptions and an explicit check of the socket shows no errors. Again, what puzzles me is that it works for simple C++ applications. Are there any known conflicts between Java and C++ in this regard?
    I have inlcuded the basic java code segments below.
    / run Method.
      * This method is called by the Thread.start() method. This
      * method is required for the implementation of the Runnable interface
      * This method sets up the server side socket communication and
      * contiuously loops looking for requests from a external
      * socket.
      * @author Chris Duke
      public void run(){
         // create socket connections
         boolean success = false;
         try {
             cServerSocket = new ServerSocket(cPortID);
             System.out.println("Waiting for client to connect...");
             cClientSocket = cServerSocket.accept();
             System.out.println("Client connected");
             // Create a stream to read from the client
             cInStream = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(
               cClientSocket.getInputStream()));
             // Create a stream to write to the client
             cOutStream = new PrintWriter(
               cClientSocket.getOutputStream(), true);
             success = true;
         }catch (IOException e) {
             System.out.println("CommSocket:Run - Socket Exception(1) " + e);
             success = false;
         // if the socket was successfully created, keep the thread running
         while (success){
             try{
                // check socket to see if it is still available for reading
                if (cInStream != null && cInStream.ready()){
                    // check for an incoming message
                    String message = ReceiveMessage();
                    // Send message to listeners
                    Event(message);
                if (cInStream == null){
                    success = false;
                    System.out.println("CommSocket:Run - shutdown");
             }catch (IOException e){
                System.out.println("CommSocket:Run - Socket not ready exception");
                break;
    // SendMessage method -
      *  Sends a text message to a connected listener through port specified by portID
      * @author Chris Duke
      * @param  String message - This will be the message sent out through the server
      * socket's port specified by portID.
       public void SendMessage(String message){
          cOutStream.println(message);
          if (cOutStream.checkError() == true)
            System.out.println("SendMessage : Flush = Error");
          else{
            System.out.println("SendMessage : Flush - No Error");
       }

    a very simple C++ test applications the communictions work fine. Once more code gets added to the C++ application the portion of the socket that C++ listens to seems to close.
    This quite strongly implicates the extra code in the C++ App. The firstly thing I would try would be telnet. Try connecting to both versions of the C++ Application and manually reproducing a proper exchange.
    a recv call the return value is a zero. Microsoft insists this is a sign the Java side has shut down the socket.
    A correct implementation of recv should return the number of bytes received, or -1 for an error. A zero return indicates no bytes received not a socket closed/error. This sounds like FUD to me.
    Are there any known conflicts between Java and C++ in this regard?
    I can see no obvious faults, though the code is incomplete, I don't think it's an sockets implementation issue, at either end, it sounds more likely to be a protocol/handshaking bug in the C++ App.

  • How to run a Java applet on a website.

    Hi,
    I am trying to run the code below [DrawLines.java|http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/~mjmcguff/learn/java/01-drawingLines/]

          for ( int i = 0; i < 10; ++i ) {
             g.drawLine( width, height, i * width / 10, 0 );
    on my website . I compiled it using JDK1.6.0_21 on Windows 7 and generated DrawingLines.class (My site is hosted on a linux server, is this an issue since it was compiled on Windows?)
    I created a html file:
    <applet width=300 height=300 code="/shanegibney/classes/DrawingLines.class"> </applet>Then I created a new folder called 'classes' in my public directory.

    I believe it's interpreting some of the code attribute as a path. Try this:
    <applet width=300 height=300 codebase="/shanegibney/classes/" code="DrawingLines"> </applet>

  • Some Java applets do not work after silent installation, solved by toggling "Enable Java content in the browser" - Why?

    We have about 1,800 workstations running Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) running various versions of the Java JRE from 6 update 32 through 7 update 51.  Most are on 6 update 45.  We would like to standardize on Java 7 update 51 (32-bit) and get everyone updated to that version for security reasons.
    For the past two weeks, we have been having trouble with our installation pre-pilot.  What we are seeing is that our procedure successfully closes any open Internet Explorer windows and Java-related processes, uninstalls all old versions of the Java JRE, and then claims to have successfully installed Java 7 update 51.  The Java Control panel works.  We can even take Internet Explorer to Verify Java Version or Java Tester - What Version of Java Are You Running? and confirm that the Java applets on those sites are loading (though the latter only works after adding the site to the exceptions site list); however, when testers try to access our Kronos Workforce Central 6.3.10 system, the Java applets used by that system do not load.
    We have tried the following things, none of which worked:
    Clear Internet Explorer browser cache and cookies.
    Clear the local Java cache.
    Reboot the computer.
    Reset Internet Explorer settings, including personal settings.
    The one thing which does work is going into the Java Control Panel, going to the Security tab, unchecking "Enable Java content in the browser", pressing Apply, pressing OK on the pop-up window, checking the "Enable Java content in the browser" box again, pressing OK, pressing OK on the pop-up window, and then restarting Internet Explorer.  It is only after this point that all Java applets, including the ones used by Kronos Workforce Central 6.3.10, work.
    What I need to know is how I can automate the procedure of reinitializing the "Enable Java content in the browser" checkbox after installation or am I doing something wrong or missing a step in the automated installation that is causing this to happen?
    We are using Microsoft SCCM 2007 R3 to accomplish this upgrade, and everything is being run on the client machine using the SYSTEM account.  First, the PowerShell script "javaclean.ps1" is run, with part of the command-line process changing the PowerShell script execution policy to Bypass.  This script handles the closing of Java-dependent applications and Java processes and uninstalls old Java versions.

    Help on this issue would be much appreciated!

    It turns out that this is actually a problem with Kronos Workforce Central.  We had the "site.java.plugin.CLSID.familyVersion" setting in that application set to "clsid:CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-FFFF-ABCDEFFEDCBA", which is the Java CLSID for Java 6.  After updating this value to "clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" (the Java universal CLSID), this problem did not occur upon the automatic upgrade of Java.
    We have both Java 6 and Java 7 in our environment, and did during our Kronos implementation, so I don't know why we were using the Java 6 CLSID in the first place.
    Case closed!

  • How to update content of a file on server using a Java Applet?

    Hi,
    I'm new to Java, and I have a task now to overwrite a text file on a server using an applet. I have written a piece of code which compiles but doesn't work. Can you please take a look at the code or give me another way to do it?
    Thanks.
    Code:
    import java.applet.Applet;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class test2 extends Applet{
    public void init() {
    StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer();
    try {
         String output = "this is some string";
         URL aUrl = new URL (getCodeBase().toString() + "test.txt");
         System.out.println(aUrl);
         URLConnection con = aUrl.openConnection();
         con.setDoOutput(true);
         PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter( new BufferedWriter( new OutputStreamWriter(con.getOutputStream())));
         out.println(output);
         out.close();
    catch (MalformedURLException mue) {
         System.out.println("improper url");
         mue.printStackTrace();
    catch (IOException e) {
         System.out.println("io exception");
         e.printStackTrace();
    }

    Thanks. I knew there would be a security issue, but I do not have sufficient knowledge to get around it. If you have a reference how to configure a server please post it here.You need to create Signed Applet. Because normally applets have some restriction to access the files in the client machine. Signed applets overrides the restriction.
    To know more, Read [url http://192.9.162.55/developer/onlineTraining/Programming/JDCBook/signed.html]Signed Applet
    No. Our OP wants to write to the server, not to the client! And to achieve this from an applet, you don't need it signed, iff the server is the machine from where the applet was downloaded in the first place. You only need to use a mechanism that allows you to write to servers, which HTTP is not. FTP, on the other hand, if setup properly can do it. So instead of trying to write using an HttpURLConnection (OP's attempt), you would use an FTP client library. FTP here is just an example and probably not the best way. Another option is to use some servlet or PHP or ASP on the server side and the applet will sumbmit the changes to that code on the server, which in turn will write to the file. The idea is that you need some 'partner code' on the server, be it the FTP server or the servlet/PHP/ASP code. None of this requires the applet to be signed.

  • Update 10.6.8 and the combo pack v1.1 but java applets still not working

    Checked all the java settings in the browsers and in java preferences and they are correct.
    Tried both Firefox 5.0.1 and Safari 5.0.5 (6533.21.1) neither worked. Runing Java SE 6 (both 64 and 32 bit) version 1.6.0_26-b03-384
    Even tried to uncheck and disable then re-enable java and restart, cleared cache, etc. Tried it all.
    Thought the combo update version 1.1 would help. Nope didn't do anything.
    Wanted to upgrade the OS today, so installed all current updates. Never upgraded the OS because I want to have this fixed first.
    I don't use time machine since I don't store my folder system locally, so I can't revert back before the OS updates. Don't want to reinstall the OS, actually can't even remember where I put it. Any suggestions? When is the issue going to be fixed?
    Checked around on a dozen or so message boards, seems like this is happen quite a bit. Even heard upgrading to the new OS has the same issue.
    So, fustrated. Need the java applet working asap.

    None of those things you mentioned were what I suggested.
    I'm guessing the "ctrl click in printer preferences" means you Reset the Printing System?
    If so, that is what I would have suggested if deleting it by selecting the ( - ) button and then adding it with the ( + ) button.
    But, if HP has a fix, it likely needs to update its drivers.

  • How do I clear all of the java applets that have been downloaded?

    I migrated firefox and other applications to my new mac so that I would not to reenter all of my passwords saved by firefox. However, it appears that the java applets were also transfered and one of these applets does not work with the new intel mac. I was able to get the same applet to work in safari, and I was able to delete the applet from safari as well, but was unable to do so in firefox.
    So, how do I clear all of the previously downloaded applets, or even better, just the one I want to? Clearing all of the recent history didn't work.
    Here is the site:
    http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week

    I did that already, and it cleared the applets for Safari, but not for Firefox.

  • Java Applet Constantly Asks for Authentication

    With have a ADF application on Weblogic 10 that has occasional access to a Java applet. The Java applet is loaded whenever it's needed and not loaded whenever it isn't in a facet. The applet is currently in the public_html/applet folder.
    When we set the SSL configuration to requiring a client certificate, when the Java applet loads, it'll constantly ask for a client certificate even though the user already presented the client when hitting the website:
    Request Authentication Identification required. Please select certificate to be used for authentication.
    This is annoying to users and the Java Applet doesn't need authentication. Is there any way we can disable the authentication or remove the prompt?
    Here's the embedded applet code:
    <applet height="1" width="1" code="applet.Applet.class"archive="/app/applet/SApplet.jar" /><param name="permissions" value="all-permissions"/></applet>
    Things I've already tried:
    1) Setting the Applet up on HTTP instead of HTTPS; I get a warning about mixed content and still get the authentication pop-up.
    2) Created a minimal applet that only types out "HELLO WORLD" in the console, still get the authentication pop-up
    Here's the console window:
