I developed an automation tool in visual studio 2010 using c# and oracle framework Oracle.DataAccess.Client. While I use OCILogon connect to Oracle9i,show error message as follow:

Problem with local apache w/php connect to oracle 9i server

Is any way to connect to oracle 9i server listening on default port 1521 at any host using local apache w/php on windows xp...
I've already installed all dlls oci drivers...
but it seems doesn't work...I don't know how to make connection from php to oracle db...

Lucas Mierzwa what error are you getting when you try to connect. Am using PHP 4.x on w2k and oracle 10g and Appach server and all work fine. I also run mysql and and IIS all on thesame local machine. They are all functioning fine. I can help you if i know what the problem is.

ODBC 10.2 test connection success but MSAccess/Office throws ORA-12154

I've run into a difficult-to-solve problem. I'm troubleshooting an MSAccess to Oracle connection via Oracle ODBC driver issue.
MSAccess was giving ORA "long" datatype error (can't remember error number) when using 11.2.1 driver against a years-old, tried-n-true app that was previously well behaved (only diff is use of that app with newer Oracle ODBC driver). Web search revealed problems with 11.2 ODBC driver and MSOffice tools so decided to swith to older ODBC driver. Had 10.2 ODBC driver also installed so switched to that. Now get ORA-12154 every time I try to connect with MSAccess via Oracle ODBC. Using the ODBC Admin (32 bit) allows SUCCESSFUL connection as does tnsping & other tools that use Oracle Net. Only MSAccess (or other MSOffice tools) do not.
I've verified no other tnsnames.ora files or sqlnet.ora files available and have even gone as far as completely removing all things Oracle from the PC and reinstalling only the 10.2 client (custom mode; installed only the Oracle NET and ODBC 10.2 driver). I've turned on tracing to ADMIN level and read the trace files. trace for MSAccess call vs trace for ODBC administrator call yields nearly identical trace files till "niotns" step where the ODBC admin proceeds to connect and the MSAccess call just gives a few other coments then stops. NO apparent error messages. tnsnames IS found so don't understand why giving ORA-12154.
All tools connect (tnsping works, SQL*Plus connects, ODBC admin test sucessful, TOAD connects) EXCEPT MSAccess. Problem is I have many, many MSAccess legacy apps/tools and cannot go without the fully working ODBC connection between MSAccess and Oracle.
Help... desparate for new ideas to try since I've spent many hours searching and tried all known troubleshooting steps.
Any ideas appreciated.

I have a similar error. I can connect to database with TNSPING, and I can also connect with SQL Developer. But I am unable to connect with Access using ODBC, I get ORA-12154 error. Am also completely stumped. So if anyone can help, I would appreciate it too.
(P.S. I have tried on a number of PCs here in the office, on one PC I have here I can connect using Access and ODBC, I can see the tables, I pick on a table, it says "linking", but it never links - it just hangs forever.)

PHP connection to Oracle basic question.

Forgive me if I am missing a very basic piece of knowledge here.
I have a small local web server I run with Apache 2.2.3 and PHP 5.1.6.
I am working on a project that uses Oracle tables located on the corporate network servers.
These tables are normally maintained by the IT department using TOAD. I'd like for the business process 'owners' to be able to maintain the tables themselves - but the company has limited TOAD licensing and some of the dependencies between tables are not readily apparent (especially to a non-IT person).
Therefore I am trying to develop a simple web app to allow table updates, using PHP to connect to the Oracle tables. The idea is I'll put the app and web server on a USB stick for the designated business person to use. (yeah, I know - seems crazy, but the paperwork to get this all into a true 'production' system is impossible, and I really don't want to have to maintain these tables myself for the rest of my working life)
I've got the basics of the app working through some MySQL tables, now I just need to know how to connect to the 'real' Oracle tables.
Here's what I've gathered from my reading:
I need to download Instant Client and install to my 'server' (on my USB stick)
I need to change PHP.ini to enable the extension for php_oci8.dll
I need to set some environment variables....and here is where I am lost.
Are these environment variables on my web server?
I am running my USB web server on a Windows XP system (as will the business users). But it doesn't make sense to me to set my PC's environment variables, because then I'd need to worry about ever PC the USB stick got used on.
Could someone clear this up for me? I am sure I am just missing something very basic.
Oh, and is there anything else I'm missing?

Get it working on a full machine first, and then move to using the USB stick. Refer to Underground PHP and Oracle Manual for standard installation information.
PHP/Apache will need to be able to find the Oracle Instant Client libraries. Normally on WIndows this is done with the PATH environment variable on the machine running the web server.

Linked Servers - Sql server 2005 to connect to Oracle 11g using ldap.ora instead of tnsnames.ora

We have a SQL Server 2005 64bit box that needs a linked server created to Oracle 11g 64bit box. I have all the Oracle client software installed and can successfully connect to the Oracle database using SQL+ on the SQL Server 2005 64bit box. When I create
the linked server and select the OraOledb.Oracle provider, I get the TNSNames error. The Oracle server does not use tnsnames.ora it uses OLAP.ora to resolve. How do I get Linked server to stop trying to connect via TNSNames and use the OLAP.ora file instead?
I can't find any articles for this specific issues. All Oracle examples tell you to use TNSNAMES. The Oracle server is not under my companies control so I can not force the vendor to use tnsnames instead of OLAP.

Apache/PHP connection to Oracle 9i under OpenVMS

With CSWS 2 (apache)/PHP 1.3 (4.3.2) under OpenVMS 7.3.2 i'm actually trying to interface an Oracle 9i database located on the same server with no success.
In my php.ini i've uncommented "extension=php_oci8.exe"
In my apache$www:[000000]login.com i've added @orauser.com <SID>
But... no connexion at that time... (php:ocilogon failed)
Someone can help me ?

I have Oracle 11g (Release 1_32bit) Client on my C:\ drive which connect to a Remote 11g (11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit) server.
I have installed 10g DB Server(10.2.0.1.0) and Oracle 10g Forms(Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2 ) on my D:\ drive.
When I try to connect to Oracle 10g DB from Forms using "Connect" button, I get following error:
"ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve the connect identifier specified"
Tns and Listner files both are same in Developer_Suite home and 10g home.
Can someone please help me with this error?

Hello,
Make sure that the service which you have specified in jdbc for making connection with oracle, exists in TNSNAMES.ORA file. You will find this file at different locations in 8i and above. So, better search for it. And add you service name in it. Example services is given in this file itself. So, take help from them.

I have just loaded Oracle 10g Rel 2 in Win 2003 Enterprise Edition.
But when I try to connect to sqlplus, I am getting ORA -12154 : TNS: Listener could not resolve the connect identified specified.
I have registered the database, the listener and tnsnames have been set correctly.
I have also set the Oracle Home environment variable.
Still getting the error.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

It is pretty easy to fat-finger these 4 message numbers. As a result, when a person has the actual and complete error message and an error number for a different message, it is usually not a bad idea to use the actual message. (Based on transposing only 3 digits compared to typing over 50 characters correctly.)
In this case the OP has really bollixed things: Subject implies a true 12154, text in the thread is an actual 12514 but mentions 12154.
As a result, there are several potentially correct answers, depending on the interpretation of the question.
- sb92075 gave the correct answer based on the number
- I gave the correct answer based on the message in the thread
- Anurag and Ed gave the correct answer based on 'the question is not formed correctly'

I am working on Oracle 9i(Release 2) windows version. I want to change the value of
shared pool size, buffer size and others database parameter through "Enterprise Manager Console" but
when i connect to sysdba mode message comes "ORA-12154 TNS Could not resolve the service name".
How can I solve this problem?

check error code and start..

     TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
Cause:      The listener received a request to establish a connection to a database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener specified a service name for a service (usually a database service) that either has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance has registered with the listener.
Action:
- Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
- Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name>
- Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener.
- If an easy connect naming connect identifier was used, check that the service name specified is a service known by the listener.
- Check for an event in the listener.log file.

this is a production database runing in windows platform and there is no backup
what should iWell first of all you should stop using EXP for backups, it's quite unsuitable, and start using RMAN instead. Find out more.
If you have a Metalink account you shoudl read Note:298968.1. But teh headline is there is a bug in 10gR1 which is fixed in 10gR2. This may not help you much. The workaround is to try running the export again later, which may not be any more helpful.
