PHP - include content based on page variable

Hello,
I have a slight /and probably not that hard) problem.
I have index page which has <div> content </div>
area that shows included files like articles etc. Nothing uncommon
in that nope. At the side there is a submenu <div> sidebar
</div> showing various things depending if you're logged in
etc. The issue is how to show the sidebars areas based on the
indexes current shown include at the content area.
For example i do not wish to show the news tab at the sidebar
with any other pages than the default include "welcome.php" at the
index.php.
So what manner variable should i set to drop of unwanted
content on some pages?
i have currently tried out making variable like
$include_in_sidebar which is set true on the content pages where i
wish to have "the" option shown at the sidebar, and then inside if
statement placed in the sidebar code around the specific part i
wish to have shown. That does not do the trick, so something (or
many things) must be wrong. All sort of help and guidelines
appreciated,
Cheers!

OK... this was actually quite easy. How come i did not figure
it out before. I just applied Show if region to the part i wished
to make visible only on some pages and made the condition to look
for page include namevariables which had to match the condition...
like --- if (@$_GET['page'] == 'xxx') {}..
Feeling a bit shamed now, as i roamed through various places
where to learn this trivial trick. The original question was
probably too easy so no one bothered answering :D... need to study
more them PHP manuals...

  • NEED HELP!!! PHP include content displays always shifted down, WHY?

    Hi, I am fairly new to using PHP and Dreamweaver together and
    I have placed the attached code in my document and I have noticed
    that the PHP generated table, div or anything else is always
    shifting down in IE and FireFox as well. Why?...and what is the
    solution to display and position dynamic content correctly inside
    the "content" div without shifting and having control of it.
    Thank you in advance.
    Attila

    What is in this?
    include("database.php");
    Also, you have not managed cellspacing/cellpadding/border on
    the table in
    the first include....

  • PHP page looks fine by itself, but CSS Divs fall apart on PHP include

    Hi everyone. Thanks for your help in advance, this problem I'm having really has me puzzled.
    The issue I'm having is, I have two php files. body.php with content to be included and index-3.php as the container. When I load body.php by itself in the browser, the layout looks fine.  When I load the index-3.php file that uses the php include function to load body.php through itself, some of the divs in the body.php file come apart.
    I'm old hat at building pages with tables and Iframes, but very new at using divs and php.
    Here are the two files, so you can see for yourselves:

    Hi there, and welcome to the forums!
      Could you please provide a screenshot of the website when it is previewed in a browser/live view? This way I can better understand the conflicts that are occuring in your code.
      It is always a good practice when coding a website to preview it in the browser as you code, to make sure there are no conflicts. It's important to remember that in the end, your viewers will be viewing your site in a browser, not in Dreamweaver's preview. : )

  • PHP Include File works but doesn't line up with the Rest of Page

    Hi,
    I am having a serious problem. I have removed my header image and have decided to replace it with a php include file so if any changes needs to be made, it can all be done in the php file in case such as links.
    When I include the php file, it includes the file but for some reason the banner goes in one direction and the body goes in the other. Help me as I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
    Example Page (with the include file): http://www.specialist-events.com/events2.php
    This is how a page looks without the PHP Include File: http://www.specialist-events.com/events1.php
    Please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks
    Junior

    Hi Nancy,
    Just to confirm what you are telling me I should do.
    Change the code in the web page to:
    <div id="header">
    <!--#include virtual="Includes/HeadMenu.ssi" -->
    <!--end header --> </div>
    so inside the layer 1 of the page, put the following code should be
    <div id="layer1">
    <!--#include virtual="includes/banner.php" -->
    <!--end header --> </div>
    and in the php file. Not sure how this will work as you are mapping areas of the image for links.
    But I assume inside the map area, you would have something like <<a class="intro" href="http://www.specialist-events.com/index.html">home</a>
    <div id="menu">
    <a href="#content">skip menu &gt;</a>
    <a class="intro" href="index.shtml">home</a>
    <a class="gallery" href="gallery.shtml">gallery</a>
    <a class="tools" href="tools.shtml">tools</a>
    <a class="portfolio" href="portfolio.shtml">portfolio</a>
    <a class="fees" href="Fees.shtml">fees</a>
    <a class="links" href="links.php">links</a>
    <a class="contact" href="contact.shtml">contact</a>
    </div> <!--end menu -->
    Am I correct

  • How do I Include content (another page) in a WEeb [page

    I need some help. I’ve been using MS Front Page for the
    last 6-7 yrs. In MS FP there is a way to include an html file into
    another html file. Example: I have a Web site that has 10 pages.
    Each page is made up of a 3 column table with a menu file in the
    left hand column of the table. I want the menu to be present in all
    10 pages. In MS FP you can add that menu (html file) in the table
    and in all 10 pages. It is called Include, content, page. (Page
    being the menu file) When you make changes to the menu file it is
    changed though out all 10 pages. It’s is a dynamic content.
    My question is how is this done in Dreamweaver?

    Search DW's F1 Help for "server-side include".

  • Displaying page contents (including webparts) on aggregation page

    CASE: Publisher can dynamically create pages in document library. Single page can have webparts embedded inside body text field. We have archive page which should aggregate all those pages and display them one under the other including webparts. In order
    to do it, we have a caml query which takes body of all pages and in user control we are creating html using repeater and eval function. As an output we get rendered just text of each page without webparts. Html output code for a single page with webpart looks
    as follow:
    <p>body test</p> <div class="ms-rtestate-read ms-rte-wpbox"><div unselectable="on" class="ms-rtestate-notify ms-rtestate-read dd3ab381-9fbc-457c-8eba-3c75ad29f5fd" id="div_dd3ab381-9fbc-457c-8eba-3c75ad29f5fd"></div>
    <div unselectable="on" id="vid_dd3ab381-9fbc-457c-8eba-3c75ad29f5fd" style="display:none"></div></div> <p><br /></p>
    Q: How to render webparts along with the rest of the (styled) content using a repeater?

    Hi,
    According to your description, you might want to aggregate the content of other pages into one page.
    Other than using Repeater, a workaround I would more recommended is that you can use the OOTB web part “Page Viewer Web Part” which can help to get the content of
    other pages easily.

  • How do I get my PHP based login page to work on my Earthlink site?

    I'm new to using the server-side behavior in Dreamweaver CS4. I built and tested a PHP based login page on my localhost and it works fine, but it does not work on my Earthlink account. Tech support at EL will not help beyond a certain point.
    I loaded my root folder (scc_website) to Earthlink's webdocs folder, but beyond my root folder I'm not sure what else to upload so I uploaded all the folders in htdocs to Earthlinks webdocs:
    _mmServerScripts
    _notes
    _Connections
    contrib
    forbidden
    restricted
    scc_website
    SpryAssets
    xampp
    Can someone please offer some advise?
    Regards,
    Ross H. Capaccio

    By default, php suppresses error messages. If you see a blank page, you've encountered an error. During development, you need to adjust the error reporting level. I don't really do php so I'm not sure if there are other ways, but here's a site with a simple explanation.
    http://www.stanford.edu/dept/its/communications/webservices/wiki/index.php/How_to_perform_ error_handling_in_PHP
    David Powers or one of the other knowledgeable php developers might suggest a different method.

  • Dynamic links based on page's content

    Hi folks,
    I would like to implement a functionality into my application which would dynamically display "smart links" to other pages within application based on CONTENT of current page (or cursor position in field). I'm only at a starting point right now, but does anybody worked on something similar?
    An easy example what I mean:
    You have an application for book shop, and you're on page, where you're editing a specific book. And for example if user will be in field BOOK_TYPE, then a dynamicaly created smart link would display a links to other pages like: "Add a new book type ...", "Modify list of Book Types", ... in some "special left menu". Then when user changes a position, some other links will display.
    Also whe user will be in page for maintaining "Book Types" one of a dynamic links could be "Add a book of this type ..." => which will point to Add new Book page, but Book Type will be prepopulated
    Above I want to have as much generic as possible, and maintained in seperate application.
    Any ideas are more than welcome.
    Or any example where is something similar in use?
    Many thanks,
    Tomeo

    Hi,
    The reason you get 1-1 ,2-2 in debugging is because, the pages are added dynamically,depending on the length of your main window.Which doesnt get captured initially,but can be used in text element.
    As far as totalling on every page and at the last page is concerned ,try teh following link:
    link: [http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ABAP/Togetsubtotalsoneachpagein+smartforms]

  • Php include not working

    Good Afternoon.
    I am having a hard time trying to find what needs to be set to allow url
    include statments in php on Netware 6.5 sp3, php5.
    I know my code is correct after trying it on an external server, and it
    seems all other php coding works. Just not the http includes as shown
    below:
    <?php
    include ('http://your.website.here/filenamehere.php');
    ?>
    php.ini is posted below:
    [PHP]
    ; About php.ini ;
    ; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
    ; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
    ; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
    ; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
    ; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The
    ; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using
    ; the -c argument in command line mode.
    ; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
    ; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably
    guessed).
    ; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
    ; they might mean something in the future.
    ; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
    ; directive = value
    ; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
    ; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or
    M_PI), one
    ; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an
    expression
    ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
    ; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and
    parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
    ; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
    ; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
    ; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the
    equal
    ; sign, or by using the None keyword:
    ; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
    ; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
    ; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
    ; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
    ; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend
    extension),
    ; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the
    extension.
    ; About this file ;
    ; This is the recommended, PHP 5-style version of the php.ini-dist file.
    It
    ; sets some non standard settings, that make PHP more efficient, more
    secure,
    ; and encourage cleaner coding.
    ; The price is that with these settings, PHP may be incompatible with some
    ; applications, and sometimes, more difficult to develop with. Using this
    ; file is warmly recommended for production sites. As all of the changes
    from
    ; the standard settings are thoroughly documented, you can go over each
    one,
    ; and decide whether you want to use it or not.
    ; For general information about the php.ini file, please consult the
    php.ini-dist
    ; file, included in your PHP distribution.
    ; This file is different from the php.ini-dist file in the fact that it
    features
    ; different values for several directives, in order to improve
    performance, while
    ; possibly breaking compatibility with the standard out-of-the-box
    behavior of
    ; PHP. Please make sure you read what's different, and modify your scripts
    ; accordingly, if you decide to use this file instead.
    ; - register_globals = Off [Security, Performance]
    ; Global variables are no longer registered for input data (POST, GET,
    cookies,
    ; environment and other server variables). Instead of using $foo, you
    must use
    ; you can use $_REQUEST["foo"] (includes any variable that arrives
    through the
    ; request, namely, POST, GET and cookie variables), or use one of the
    specific
    ; $_GET["foo"], $_POST["foo"], $_COOKIE["foo"] or $_FILES["foo"],
    depending
    ; on where the input originates. Also, you can look at the
    ; import_request_variables() function.
    ; Note that register_globals is going to be depracated (i.e., turned
    off by
    ; default) in the next version of PHP, because it often leads to
    security bugs.
    ; Read http://php.net/manual/en/security.registerglobals.php for
    further
    ; information.
    ; - register_long_arrays = Off [Performance]
    ; Disables registration of the older (and deprecated) long predefined
    array
    ; variables ($HTTP_*_VARS). Instead, use the superglobals that were
    ; introduced in PHP 4.1.0
    ; - display_errors = Off [Security]
    ; With this directive set to off, errors that occur during the
    execution of
    ; scripts will no longer be displayed as a part of the script output,
    and thus,
    ; will no longer be exposed to remote users. With some errors, the
    error message
    ; content may expose information about your script, web server, or
    database
    ; server that may be exploitable for hacking. Production sites should
    have this
    ; directive set to off.
    ; - log_errors = On [Security]
    ; This directive complements the above one. Any errors that occur
    during the
    ; execution of your script will be logged (typically, to your server's
    error log,
    ; but can be configured in several ways). Along with setting
    display_errors to off,
    ; this setup gives you the ability to fully understand what may have
    gone wrong,
    ; without exposing any sensitive information to remote users.
    ; - output_buffering = 4096 [Performance]

  • How can i optimize my SEARCH ENGINE???I use godaddy.i contact them and they give me this conclusion:Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript. the content on the pages, (photo gallery.....

    conclusion from godaddy:
    Search engines are not pulling up your other pages on your website because it is created with javascript.
    the content on the pages, (photo gallery, My Recipes/Blog, History, Friends) need to be formatted to HTML, PHP or CSS. No search engines (google, Yahoo, Bing) can crawl//analyze webpages built with javascript.
    See if Apple allows iweb to create the pages in HTML format and ask how to make those changes.
    I spend more then 1 hour on the phone with them but we didn't find the solution...
    please i need help because like this nobody can rich my website...
    www.chefdiego.com
    thank you

    The part of iWeb pages that give the search engines problem is the navbar.  That's javascript based.  One way to get around that is to create another blank page in the site that's not  included in the navbar.
    Add a text based navbar in that page with just the other pages in the site.
    Also you can use that page for creating the sitemap for Google at Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps Generator.
    Have you let Google know your site exists? This website describes how to get it recognized: Get your iWeb website found in search engines like Google Yahoo MSN and Bing.

  • Problems using a php include file with an Add-on Domain.

    Hello,
    I am having an issue getting a php include file to work with a new add-on domain I am working on getting up and running.
    This include file is one that supplies the rest of the php code to a contact form page.  It works as it should for my original domain, same file no difference.  I made sure that the files hosted on the remote server had all read, write, execute permissions turned on.
    I have tried putting the include file in several different locations as a test, such as:
    I don't remember the exact name of the include file at the moment, as I'm at work so I will designate it below as 'includefile.php'.
    file path for add-on domain - ../public_html/lorentzpainting/includes/includefile.php
    alternatives I tried moving the file to - ../public_html/lorentzpainting/includefile.php
    When none of those options worked, I tried just pointing the path towards other places on the server that have the include file such as:
    ../public_html/includes/includefile.php
    ../public_html/includefile.php
    What can I do here?  Should I just give up on using the include and put all the code back in the page?  Doesn't seem like it should be this complicated, it works perfectly fine for my other site.. and still does.
    Thanks ahead of time to those who may assist me.

    here is the contents of the include file:
    <?php
    if (isset($_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME']) && strpos($_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'],
    '.inc.php')) exit;
    // remove escape characters from POST array
    if (PHP_VERSION < 6 && get_magic_quotes_gpc()) {

        $value = is_array($value) ? array_map('stripslashes_deep', $value) : stripslashes($value);
        return $value;

  • Error message when trying to open PHP include?

    Hi there,
    I have seen a number of posts here about issues with
    Contribute editing PHP pages and am starting to get concerned... I
    have another one to add to the list.
    I have created a site that uses PHP includes for the header
    and the drop down menus, so that the client can go in and edit one
    or two files to change things sitewide. Sounds good, right? Well,
    in Contribute I can't open either of the PHP files that are being
    included to edit them. I keep getting errors and whether I click on
    "YES" or "NO" (to the question of whether I want to continue
    running scripts on the page) it doesn't let me out...the error
    warning box keeps popping up and I am in an endless loop. The only
    way out is CTRL-ALT-DELETE.
    One guess I had is that I am maybe missing something
    important in the included PHP file that is necessary for it to be
    recognized as a proper PHP file? In other words, the included PHP
    files contain no header tags or anything like that, it is literally
    just some divs that are supposed to be inserted at a particular
    point on every page. Am I missing something, or am I encountering a
    limitation of Contribute?
    Many thanks!!
    Tim

    I think it's the content of the include that is causing your
    troubles. Somehow you created a menu using Fireworks(?) or
    Dreamweaver(?) and Contribute indicates javascripterrors, not php
    errors...
    Maybe its better, in this case, constructing a menu that
    contains only an unordered list (check out project7 menus, or stu
    nichols css site for more examples). Updating the menu will be
    simpeler and also with less chance of errors by users. You can open
    such a file without any troubles in Contribute.

  • Question about using a PHP include for the head info...

    Hi,
    I'm currently using PHP includes for my site header and footer info.
    All my js/css files and meta declarations are in the head portion, which is in the header include.
    How would I go about giving each page its own individual TITLE if the modifiable content of my pages is inside the body only? Since we can't specify title inside the body, am I stuck with the same page title for each page on the website?

    Is it true that you header include file has the </head> and <body> tags embedded? It would seem a lot neater - and safer - to use two include files, one for the header and one for the body. That way, the <title> is not in either of them and you can do with it what you will.

  • In Design View, not seeing PHP includes

    I'm on a new Vista laptop using DW CS3, and pages whose
    contents displayed
    in Design View before aren't displaying in Design View.
    They're PHP pages
    with some includes, such as this one:
    http://www.miraverse.com/manifold20/studio/music-room.php
    In Design View, I only see the non-include parts of the page.
    That preference under Invisible Elements, to view SSIs in
    Design View, IS
    checked.
    Any help will be MUCH appreciated!

    I conditionally retract that statement, since CS4 seems to
    tolerate this
    pretty well.
    Let's restate it this way -
    If you have such tags in your include files, then you MUST
    NOT HAVE THEM IN
    THE PARENT PAGE. In other words, the final assembled page
    must have only a
    single set of <html>, <head>, or <body>
    tags.

  • PHP include call used to work, doesn't now, and my ISP blames me...help?

    Hello all,
    Here's the deal: I have a website, www.website.com which has a sub-domain, subdomain.website.com. I use one CSS file for both sites, the subdomain calls to the main website. Likewise, I pull graphics from the main site that appear on the subdomain. Everything works swimmingly.
    I also have a navbar that is common to both sites. For simplicity, the navbar is in an includes folder in the main site's root directory. I do this so that changes made to the navbar can be instantaneous across both sites. I avoid having to upload includes files to BOTH sites every time I change one of them. Here's how I call it in the code:
    <?php include('http://www.website.com/includes/navbar2.php'); ?>
    This USED TO WORK JUST FINE. Not long ago, pages in the subdomain are no longer able to call the navbar from the includes folder on the main site. I get three <function include> errors where there ought to be the navbar. I contacted my ISP (Network Solutions) and they blame it on 'custom coding' which is absurd as I haven't altered the code on these pages in months...far before the problem occurred.
    Here is the html for the three <function include> errors:
    <b>Warning</b>:  include() [<a href='function.include'>function.include</a>]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in <b>/(actual path info removed)/main.php</b> on line <b>31</b><br />
    <br />
    <b>Warning</b>:  include(http://www.website.com/includes/navbar2.php) [<a href='function.include'>function.include</a>]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in <b>/(actual path info removed)/main.php</b> on line <b>31</b><br />
    <br />
    <b>Warning</b>:  include() [<a href='function.include'>function.include</a>]: Failed opening 'http://www.website.com/includes/navbar2.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/services/vux/lib/php') in <b>/(actual path info removed)/htdocs/subdomain_folder/main.php</b> on line <b>31</b><br />
    I think it's a server-side change. Has to be as I have not altered the code at all in ages. Any thoughts, suggestions or help would be very much appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    wordman

    Your hosting company is quite correct in blaming you, although it should probably have explained why it no longer works.
    Since PHP 5.2, there have been two security directives: allow_url_fopen, which is on by default, and allow_url_include, which is off by default.
    Including a file directly from a URL is a major security risk, which is why allow_url_include is turned off. If you want to include content from a URL, you must retrieve it using a file function, such as file_get_contents(), and run your own security checks on it before including it in a page.
