Pixelated gridlines when using mapped artwork.

I am trying to make a globe using a Equirectangular Vector Globe and a set of grid lines using the grid tool.
I set everything up and set it all as a symbol.
Do my half circle and revolve it, map the art work and size to fit.
However when I look at my grid lines at 100% they are pixelated. At 300% they are not.
ANy ideas what may be causing this?
I can get screen shots if needed to explain further.
Thanks in advance.

Photohsop gives you the most accurate preview at 100% because you are displaying 1 pixel of data to 1 pixel on your monitor.
Illustrator translates the vector data to pixlels to display. In your case you have some curved lines, and illustrator has to figure how to dispaly this. Antialising helps alot to provide you with nice curved lines, but when the lines are at 100% the monitor only has a few pixles to display that line, at 300% view there are atelast 3x as many pixels to display the thickness of the line.
Imagine you had some graph paper, and could choose a color for each sqaure and had to draw a stroked circle. The more squares on your graph you have to dispaly taht stroke, the less staircased ti will look.
So no worries your lines are vector, and will print better than they look on your monitor, thanks to the higher resolution of your print device (espeically when you go to plate) in comparison to your monitor.

  • Lots of different errors when using Maps on Linux, help?

I'm trying to use Maps in one of my programs, but for some reason I get all sorts of different errors when compiling.
I've tried both my own (very) simple tests of it and also I've copied and pasted the code straight out of the official tutorials.
//Edit: Ok, I've tried it on several different IDEs, and Netbeans (on both Linux and Windows) and JCreator(on Windows) both work now for whatever reason. The only one I still have problems with is below.
Here some of the errors I get, and nothing is making sense.
On a Linux machine, using a simple IDE (Geany):
    MapTest.java:6: not a statement
    Map<String, Integer> m = new TreeMap<String, Integer>();
    ^
    MapTest.java:6: ';' expected
    Map<String, Integer> m = new TreeMap<String, Integer>();
    I don't know why it isn't working.

What do IDEs have to do with this? It's a compiler error.
Do you import java.util.Map and java.util.TreeMap?
Are you using JDK 5 or higher? Generics didn't appear in Java until JDK 5.

  • Long running mapping when using Mapping Transformations

    Hi,
I have a source table with 8,000 records which I would like to merge using the update/insert operator into my target table. This simple operation takes 15 sec which I am very happy with. The problem I have is when I try to call a series of Functions using Mapping Transformations - when I do this the performance of the mapping is dire - it now takes longer than 40min!!!
The strange thing is that when I generate the intermediate result and run the code (not including the Merge in to my Target table) in TOAD, the results come back quickly? So I am not sure if there is a problem with the fact that I am using Mapping Transformations or if I am using a Merge on the Target Table...
I have taken off Parrallel hints on the target table and applied the relevant indexes.
I am really lost and any help would be most appreciated.
    Regards
    Mitesh

If you could let us know what kind of functions you are using? I had experienced the same problem while calling a function using a Mapping Transformation. The functions used a cursor and for every source record these function were getting called and the cursor was opened and closed, which caused a performance bottleneck.
Better write the functions with direct SQLs and no cursors, if possible or use a temporary table, joiner operator or look up operator to achieve the task.
This should reduce the execution time considerably.

  • Still Having Problem with Battery Overheating with Car Dock/Charger when using Maps/Navigation

I'm having a problem with the battery overheating when using Google Navigation in the OEM Samsung car dock and car charger.  On a trip last weekend, I started off with a fully charged battery (because posts on other sites have complained that the Charge cannot keep up with the power draw of the Google nav app while using the car charger).  About an hour into my trip, I got a message that the battery was overheating and to unplug the charger which I did.  I then had to contend with the screen going out because it was running on the battery.  I let the phone discharge to about 70% then tried the car charger again.  Within a few minutes, I got the same overheating message.  It was not an overly hot day and the car A/C was set at 68 degrees.
This morning (with the battery at about 85%) I tried to use the Navigation without the car dock while charging and got the same results...the phone battery overheated and I had to unplug the charger. The battery temperature reached 116 degrees. (also, the battery level was also dropping while using the Maps or Nav application even though it was hooked up to the car charger).
I'm very disappointed with this situation since I was hoping I could replace my old Garmin GPS with the Charge.  But between the phone dimming the screen while running on battery, and having a depleted battery in the phone at the end of the trip, its just not a viable option.  I really like this phone, but I'm running against the "return" clock.
    Any ideas?
Could this be a software problem that will be corrected by an update in the future?
fyi:  other Charge problems in the last 5 days:
    - dropping audio on calls to other Verizon phones.
    - use of camera flash causing the phone to reboot.
(I do have the 'class 4' 32gb card in my Charge)
    Thanks in advance,
    Rich

    Jerry:
Yes, the phone is charging while in the car dock.  I confirmed it both under the "about phone-status-battery status" menu and by my battery widget.  By watching the battery widget, I also noticed that the voltage steadily increased over the ride home.  It started at about 3.90 volts and ended at 4.02 volts.  I don't know if that is significant.  This time the battery did not overheat.  The Max temp was 110 degrees, but no notice to disconnect came up.  This might be because the sun was behind me on the drive home rather than beating down on the dash like it was this weeked.
I've ordered a cheap universal dock from Amazon for about $15.00 which clips onto the a/c vent.  I want to see if this keeps the temperature down.  If this works, I can still return the fancy-schmantzy Samsung OEM car dock. (The car-dock interface wasn't that impressive anyway).
Please let me know if the volt change means anything.
And thanks again for your help!

  • Slow down of E71 when using maps.

    Hi,
I bought E71 today and found some problem.
My phone hangs when i use Maps and i have to take my battery out inorder to start my phone again.
I use 2GB memory card with E71 phone.
Lets suppose you are not connected to internet by any means (no WLAN or else) . Make sure there is memory card in the phone and some maps are already there when you used the maps application earlier.
    Now, launch Maps application.
After sometime there is message which says " No internet connection. Try connecting to internet"
When I press "OK" the phone hangs.
Is this normaly seen in Nokia E71, that it hangs?
If not, please help me in resolving the issue.
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi,
I figured out the problem. I bought this phone from US and therefore the firmware version is
    200.21.118
Please carry out the following steps.
In the Maps option menu select internet. Then select Connect at startup. Select YES.
Now exit Maps application. Do not connect to anytype of internet.
Now try launching Maps application. Wait for 10 to 20 sec to get the message "Your not connected to Internet. Connect it Now".
Try pressing OK key or any other key for that matter. The phone hangs ...
I don't know wheather this problem is in all kind of firmware versions or only in
    200.21.118

  • Dead pixel only when using Pages

One dead pixel.  Always the same one, only when using Pages.  Has anyone else seen this?
    MacBook Air 11", 1.6 GHz Core i5 CPU, OS 10.8, Pages 4.2

This has been happening to me ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Certainly a software issue, I expected an update to iWork to resolve this after the release of 10.8 but it seems Apple have all but forgotten about their iWork suite...
Below are images of the effected area when a Pages window is selected and unselected.

  • When using Maps as GPS,  screen keeps going off - iPhone 3G

When I use maps as a gps, how do I stop the screen from going off?

But, that makes the auto-lock feature be turned off for all usages. What about if you only want the screen to stay on while you're using Maps? I have to turn off the auto-lock every time and then go back and turn it back on? It seems like this should be a setting in the Maps app instead of having to change the master settings.

  • Snapping to pixel grid when using direct selection

    Hi,
I'm new to Illustrator and looking to use it for creating some icons for an application I am working on. These icons are relatively small (16x16 and 32x32) and need many of the paths perfectly aligned with the pixel grid to avoid unnecessary anti-aliasing. This functionality seems to work okay when creating new shapes, however when I attempt to modify the points on a path they are snapping to the corners of the pixels rather than the centre, leaving me with anti-aliased lines everywhere. Is there another setting somewhere I need to change (or should I be using another graphics app)?
    Andy.

    Andy,
Align to Pixel Grid limits the options, but you may untick it and work on.
The Align to Pixel Grid setting in the Transform palette itself is the current object, and the other one in the Options is for future objects.

  • Error messages when using Mapping Styles to tags

We are using the XML Export from Indesign as part of our translation workflow. This has been fine until today. I am trying to tag an older document and when I use the Mapping Styles to Tags option I get the following error message:
"Cannot tag the selected text because the text contains part of a hyperlink or cross reference. Change the text selection to include the entire hyperlink or cross-reference"
I have no text selected, and I have tried tagging each Cross-Reference in the document and then repeating the map styles to tags all with no result. I don't really understand the message. Can anybody help me?
    I'm using InDesign CS6 Verison 8.0.1 on a MacBook Pro OSx 10.6.8
    Thanks
    Steve M

Do you still have the original version of ID in which the file was made? If so, try the export to interchange from that. It frequently works better than after conversionin a new version. Open the exported file in CS6 and try your mapping again.
If that still doesn't work, we'll need someone else to step in who has some XML experience.

  • Proxy authentication when using Maps

    Hello,
I've been using the iPad with a wifi connection that uses a proxy. I can connect without problems with Safari, but when i get into Maps i need to login to the proxy again.

    Sorry, first time user.
So if I am in the car, I have full signal, I search for an address, it locates the address with the red dot, and locates me as the blue dot. Sometimes it is accurate, sometimes it is off the mark. Regardless it moves temporarily, then usually locks up. This is really inconvenient when you are relying on it to find a location.
I also use the MapQuest App and it runs late. You already pass the turn before it tells you to turn.

  • E71 locks up when using maps

My E71 will lock up when I try t use the maps options. I just bought it and am in Panama City Panama. What can I do? Also if any body has any pointer on using this thing I could use them. I am new to this type of phone.

    Hi dbg20
If you have not defined a valid WEB connection for the "Positioning Server" then the Assisted GPS feature may not be able to establish a connection, which is enough to lock-up application; if you don't have a GPRS data connection you may have to disable the "Assisted GPS" feature unfortunately.
Tools > Settings > General > Positioning > Positioning Server > Access point
Also make sure Assisted GPS is checked under "Positioning Methods".
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • I'm working in Photoshop CC 2014. Why is it that when I use the refine radius tool...edges become pixelated? When using Edge Detection and sliding the radius bar I get the same result.

I used the quick selection tool to get this far...I will be showing the result of adjusting the Radius slider...
At 5 px you can already see the changes to the edges...
    And at 30 px...

I've looked at this several times now, but it has me stumped! I just can't think of circumstances that might cause this.  The firs thing to try when things are properly weird is to reset Preferences (I don't think there is a reset option for refine Edge).
    Reset Preferences
Windows — Hold down Shift Ctrl Alt immediately after starting Photoshop
Mac — Hold down Shift Cmd Opt immediately after starting Photoshop
I'd be interested to see the original image.

  • Pixelation / Distortion when using "Save for Web..." versus "Export"

Hi. When I export from Illustrator using the Save for Web & devices option (I export the original at png24) the images are not as smooth as those produced by selecting File-Export. 2 images produced by both images are attached. The variation is most noticeable on the round corners.
Is there a way to export work at full quality using the Save for Web & Devices option?

    jkadobeil,
I have transparency ticked. One cannot specify matte if transparency is ticked.
I can in 10. It may be a bug or corrupted preferences. If the latter, you may try to Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Option+Shift during startup or Move the folder with Illy closed.

  • Can I avoid pixellated results when using Replace Color?

    Running PSE9 under Mac OS X 10.6.
I'm editing an (originally.jpg) photo of green jewelry (on a silver necklace) with a gray background.  I want to change the gray to a pale pink.
At first I tried the Magnetic Lasso to select the jewelry followed by Replace Color, but the intricacies of the silver necklace and the fine wire of the (pierced)  earring hooks seemed to befuddle the Lasso into losing detail.  Then I thought I had a bright idea:  Skip the detailed selection, select the entire photo, and let the non-contiguous Replace Color do the work.  I don't know how this affects the detail of the result yet, because I'm more concerned about the approximately 3 mm pixels of a variety of colors that replaced the gray background.  Changing Fuzziness didn't remove the pixellation, and I have no idea why the variety of colors is occurring.
Where, oh where did I go wrong?

Here's how to get the results below:
    1. Filled in the top left of the image using the clone stamp tool
sampling off the areas below it. (makes the grey easier to select if
it's fairly the same all around)
    2. Used the magic wand tool with contiguous not checked and clicked on
        grey in the image.
    3. Inverted that selection; Filters>Adjustments>Invert
    4. Created a new color fill adjustment layer; Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color
and picked the color in the color picker dialog (you can change the color later
by double clicking on the color fill icon in the layers panel)
    5. You may have zoom in close and fill in any areas you don't want pink by painting
on the solid color fill layer mask with a brush. Use a black brush to show more of the
        necklace (hide the pink).
Use a white brush to add more pink.
The color replacement tool doesn't work so good on images like this, that's why
a solid color fill adjustment layer is a better choice.

  • When using library artworks created in Illustrator in Photoshop the 'placed' versions don't update in Photoshop even when they update in the library

I'm using a Mac and working in Illustrator and Photoshop. Here's my problem:
I would like to be able to add button designs created in Illustrator to my libraries for access in Photoshop. Pretty straightforward - just add the button to the library and then it appears in my library in Photoshop to be dragged and dropped into the file. I would assume that once you drop an item from the library into the page in Photoshop it would remain linked to the library instance but it doesn't seem to which is frustrating. So if I make changes to the original button in Illustrator Adobe then updates the library, but not all the placed instances on the Photoshop page/file. Am I missing something? If not that it is something that should be added.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I think I found a workaround, although its ugly and not condusive to a nice workflow :-/
The "Inside Aperture" web page had a blog post describing what I said above, about using Aperture previews as referenced originals in iPhoto: http://www.oreillynet.com/digitalmedia/blog/2007/08/referencedaperture_previewsi.html
And in the comments below, I found this:
+"This works great indeed. I noticed something annoying using this method though.+
+If you edit a picture in Aperture and then open iPhoto which has already the referenced Aperture picture, the iPhoto thumbnail will not update itself automatically...+
+The easiest way to check this is to do a major adjustment in Aperture (i.e. From Color to B&W) and see that the thumbnail has not updated in iPhoto. So far I found two ways of fixing this but it is not really efficient...+
+1 - Rebuild the iPhoto library (long & painful depending on its size)+
+2 - Do an adjustment directly in iPhoto, apply it then revert to the original.+
+With the second option, the thumbnail gets regenerated."+
The bad part of this is then everytime you make an adjustment in an Aperture version and updagte the preview, you now have to go into iPhoto, find that photo, and make a change to it, revert to iPhoto original, (which is now the changed Aperture referenced preview), and the thumbnail gets regenerated. Ugly, and not very automatable .
I am going to try and start an email thread w/ the author of that blog post ot see whether he's found anything eise out.
