PL/SQL parser version

It seems to me that the Parser for PL/SQL offers API that calls
the Parser for Java. Is that true?
If true, Is it the Parser for Java v1 or v2?

Performance degradation in pl/sql parsing

We are trying to use xml pl/sql parser and noticed performance degradation as we run multiple times. We zeroed into the following clause:
doc := xmlparser.getDocument(p);
The first time the procedure is run the elapsed time at sqlplus is something like .45sec, but as we run repeatedly in the same session the elapsed time keeps on increasing by .02 seconds. If we log out and start fresh, we start again from .45sec.
We noticed similar degradation with
p := xmlparser.newParser;
but we got around by making the 'p' variable as package variable, initializing it once and using the same for all invocations.
Any suggestions?

Can I enhance the PL/SQL code for better performance ? Probably you can enhance it.
or, is this OK to take so long to process these many rows? It should take a few minutes, not several hours.
But please provide some more details like your database version etc.
I suggest to TRACE the session that executes the PL/SQL code, with WAIT events, so you'll see where and on what time is spent, you'll identify your 'problem statements very quickly' (after you or your DBA have TKPROF'ed the trace file).
SQL> alter session set events '10046 trace name context forever, level 12';
SQL> execute your PL/SQL code here

Code completion(insight) not working in SQL Developer Version 2.1.1.64

I recently downloaded SQL developer Version 2.1.1.64. However the code completion feature is not working automatically. I have checked the Automatically complete code in SQL worsheet checkbox under Tools->Preferences-> Code Editor-> Completion Insight.
Strangely, I get the code completion pop up window when I explicitly press the completion insight shortcut(Ctrl + Space).

Does PL/SQL Parser Validate?

Just wondering if the PL/SQL parser can parse in validation mode?
I think I remember reading that the PL/SQL parser is a non-validating parser only but I didn't know if this changed.

The problem I am having is that the output now looks like this

The xmlparser.parseDTD requires as the third parameter the root element so the !DOCTYPE field comes after the root element and not before as required.

PL/SQL Parser Bug?

Hi,
just came across a strange PL/SQL parser behavior. Why is the following PL/SQL code valid?
DECLARE
    vEmpNo NUMBER;
BEGIN
    FOR rEMP IN
      ( SELECT EMPNO
          INTO vEmpNo
          FROM EMP
    LOOP
        dbms_output.put_line('Value: '||vEmpNo);
    END LOOP;
END;The "INTO vEmpno" doesn't make much sense, but it's successfully compiled and executed.
Database version is 10.2.0.3.0
Any idea?

the pl/sql manual gives the syntax of a cursor for loop as
cursor_for_loop_statement ::=
[<< label_name >>] FOR record_name IN

LOOP statement [statement]...
END LOOP [label_name];and the pl/sql manual defines a "select into" as
"The SELECT INTO statement retrieves data from one or more database tables, and assigns the selected values to variables or collections. For a full description of the SELECT SQL statement, see Oracle Database SQL Reference."
and it also says
"Selecting At Most One Row: SELECT INTO Statement
If you expect a query to only return one row, you can write a regular SQL SELECT statement with an additional INTO clause specifying the PL/SQL variable to hold the result."
so, if pl/sql feels that the INTO is just another clause to a regular select statement, and cursor-for-loops work on select statements, then there is no problem. huh?????
guess in a similar way to v8 pl/sql allowing select of booleans, it just ignores that clause. but since it isn't explicitly stated as being allowed, we can hope that oracle will eventually notice and get rid of it.

SQL Parser supporting nested queries

Hi,
I require a SQL parser that supprt nested queries. JavaCC doesnt support nested queries so that one is out. If anyone knows of any open sourse parser, please enlighten me. I have already looked enough on Google but not of much use.

Pl/sql parsing

Hello!
I'm developing a package that gets all the dependencies between the objects from a schema and since the table all_dependencies doesn't provide all the information needed (not enough detail), I thougth on making a pl/sql parser. Then I found Oracle Text, and I would like to now if will this feature have the capabily to help me in this task. If not, can someone indicate me some other oracle solution?

I'm working in windows 2000 professional 5.00.2195 and using Pl/SQL Developer version 7.1.1 and oracle 9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.7.
What I really want is, for exemple, instead of the objects related to a package, I wanna now to witch procedure or function in that package that object is related to. Also, when I have a dependency with a table, I wanna now if that procedure/function only writes or only reads (or both) on the table.

MS Access 2010 and Oracle SQL Developer Version 4.0.3.16 Error

OS: Windows 7 Enterprise
System Type: 64-bit Operating System
I can not get MS Access 2010 to work/open with SQL Developer version 4.0.3.16.
ERROR when testing connection to MS Access 2010
"Status : Failure -Test failed: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified"
I added the 32-bit ODBC data source for the MS Access I am trying to use with SQL Developer version 4.0.3.16 with the "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe" application, but I still get the same error.
I appears that SQL Developer version 4.0.3.16.is looking at the 64-bit driver (ODBC Data Source) and I have no idea to direct SQL Developer version 4.0.3.16 to use the 32-bit driver (ODBC Data Source) when opening MS Access 2010.

It requires Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 R2. It will not run on a Server Core installation.
It requires one of these versions of x64 SQL Server:
                SQL Server 2005 SP3 CU3 (Build 4220) or greater (Note: SQL Server 2005 goes out of mainstream support in April 2011)
                SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU2 (Build 2714) or greater
                SQL Server 2008 R2

XMl parser version problem for running struts project in jdeveloper 10.1.3

Dear All.
I am trying to run a struts (v 1.2.9) based project in Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1.0.The struts version in Jdeveloper is 1.1.
when i am trying to run the index.jsp i get an error:
org.xml.sax.SAXNotRecognizedException: http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/dynamic
I think the XML parser version is a problem.Jdeveloper has OracleXMLParser v2 and i think the XML Parser apis used in building the project is different.I have placedcustiom xml parser apis and the xerces.jar in the jdevbin/jdev/lib folder and included these jar in the bootclasspath as follows:
AddVMOption -Xbootclasspath/p:../lib/xml-apis.jar
AddVMOption -Xbootclasspath/p:../lib/xerces-2.6.2.jar
But even then the Exception persists.Is the syntax for Xbootclasspath wrong or i need to place these custom api's in some other location of jdev.
I am not being able to figure out the XMl parser problem.
Any help wud be great.
Is it that i cant run the project in jdeveloper.Just to mention the application is deployed in OC4J on the server and runs fine..But its only that i kant run it locally through jdeveloper

Sql server replication from SQL SERVER VERSION(7.0) to SQL SERVER 2005

We are trying to create a replication between Sql server 7.0 data to SQL server 2005 data . We tried to create a local subscription in Sql server ,when tried to connect to publisher running in Sql server 7.0 it is showing an error message
like "This Sql server vresion(7.0) is not supported" .
Could any one please help us with this issue ?

SQL Server version 7.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4) is the earliest version that can participate in a replication topology with SQL Server 2005. We need to verify the version of SQL Server. If you configure transactional replication with updating subscribers,
for a SQL Server 7.0 Publisher, only SQL Server 7.0 Subscribers are supported. SQL Server 7.0, 2000 was out of support in the SQL Server Forums. I suggest you install SQL Server 2005 or later version to configure the SQL Server replication.

Error trying to install ICM 8.0 - "FAILED TO GET SQL SERVER VERSION."

Hello guys, i tried to install ICM 8.0 but when i click on Setup.exe appears this error:
"FAILED TO GET SQL SERVER VERSION. MAKE SURE SQL SERVER INSTALLED PROPERLLY
NO INSTANCE NAME FOUND.NO SCHEMA UPGRADES ATTEMPTED"
I try to check the SQL COnfiguration, about Named Pipes, but everything is allright. Someone knows what is it?

You should be able to see the ICMSetup.log file somewhere - check TEMP. It seems to me that this is the first thing it does - tries to connect to the SQL database and ask for the version. Clearly it cannot. I assume you installed SQL OK, probably have the service running under a domain user created especially for the task, or the domain admin, and you are also logged in as the domain admin, and that SQL is running.
Check that log file for clues.

Desc not working in SQL Developer Version 1.1.3 Build 27.69

I am using Oracle SQL Developer Version 1.1.3 Build 27.69
select count(*) from abccount(*)
100
using desc / describe table name gives error
desc abcERROR:
ERROR: object abc does not exist
1 rows selected
I am able to perform select on the table but not desc/describe. I tried suffixing with schema name , still the same error persists.
Kindly provide a workaround

Well 1.1.3 is quite old.
The best thing to do IMHO is to update to the latest version, it will also enable a load of new features and fixes.
