**$$PlaceHolder$$** appears where header should be in HTML Help topics
I have been working on this Help Project for a client since
2004, updating it when they update their software.
I recently upgraded to RH7, and have been working on an
update on their Help project. When I build the HTML Help output
this morning, the header was correct on only the first two topics;
then on subsequent topics I was getting "Script Error" warnings.
I went back into RH7 and checked for missing files etc - all
OK.
Then I did a menu > Tools > Update HTML Effects, which
usually sorted out any misbehaviour or earlier versions. New
compile to HTML Help. Again, the header is normal on the first two
topics only, but on all the other (100+) topics, the header is
replaced by text **$$PlaceHolder$$**.
The header comprises a single cell table with a background
graphic, and a small graphic within the cell itself.
The two topics that display correctly are at top level in the
ToC; all other topics are in Books in the ToC.
I tried Browse Sequence set to Zero and set to 1, but same
problem. I tried removing the browse sequence display from the
output build, but same problem.
Headers appear correctly in topic Preview mode.
I tried removing the template from all topics and then
reapplying it; then did a new build. When I try to run the Help
Guide, I get the ToC pane in view OK, but the start topic is blank,
and I have "Internet Explorer Script Error" dialogue:

If I click Yes, the Help Guide runs OK with all headers in
place.
I can then select any other topic, and all is OK; if I select
the Start topic, then I get the script error message again.
HELP!! This is for a major client, and the Help Guide is not
deliverable in this form.
SOLUTION: I think I found the cause of problem. I had a
splash screen on the first topic, inherited from long ago. I
removed it, did a rebuild, and now everything works OK. I then
reinserted the Splash Screen, rebuild, and now OK.
Conclusion: I think there is a
BUG in *Update HTML Effects*.
Please pass it on!
To be honest you only need to use the Update HTML Effects if
you have added a HMTL effect to one of your styles and you want
this to be reflected in the topics you have already created. Of
course you may have done exactly that

Footer appears where it should in IE and FF but not in Safari or Chrome
We are using php via Joomla. The footer in the php page shows up where it theoretically be in IE (all versions) and FF but in Safari and Chrome the footer is 800px higher in the middle of the page.

During the RoboHelp install, a message box popped up
informing me that I would need to get HTML Help 1.4 from the MSDN
website. So after the install was completed, I went to the MSDN
website and looked for HTML Help 1.4. And I found a file that
seemed to be the correct one. The page title side 1.4, and there
was nothing to indicate otherwise.
It was only after the file was downloaded and the install
process started that I learned that what I had actually downloaded
was version 1.3. And oddly enough, my computer apparently came with
1.31 pre-installed. And now the RoboHelp Tutorial appears to be
crashing because of HTML Help (there's an error message about the
HTML Help Executeable that pops up just before the tutorial window
crashes to the desktop).
So where do I find 1.4?I've already done that - sort of.
The company replaced my computer with a brand new one just a
few days after I originally received the RoboHelp program.
Everything ran fine on that machine. I still got the "missing
version 1.4" message, but I didn't think to actually make a note of
the missing program at the time, and so I didn't go looking for it
until I installed RoboHelp on the new machine.
However, I did not have the same error problems on that
machine. No DEP errors, and no crashes to the desktop.
I spoke to Adobe on the phone yesterday, as well, and their
advice was to do a complete uninstall (using the guidelines on the
website) and reinstall of RoboHelp, but that doesn't appear to have
worked.
In summary, my problem list -
During RoboHelp 6 install, a message pops up indicating that
HTMLHelp 1.4 will need to be downloaded in order to compile. This
occurred on both machines.
On the new machine, I attempted to download and install
HTMLHelp 1.4, and got 1.3 instead which I went ahead and installed.
There appears to already be a later version hidden somewhere in the
depths of the hard drive. When I tried to run the tutorial
afterwards, I got a machine indicating a DEP error from "HTML Help
Executeable", and crashed to the desktop.
I have a sneaking suspicion at this point that the HTML Help
install ended up conflicting with the version already on the
system, and somehow a pointer got redirected and hasn't been reset. -
List view shows black spaces where letters should be
G5, dual 2.5GHrz, 10.3.9
Just recently when I'm in list view, spaces appear where letters should be. In Icon and Column view everything appears correctly. I have shut down and restarted and corrected permissions. None of that seems to help. Any ideas what might be causing this?

TomI found a solution. I moved the preference file named "com.apple.desktop.plist" from the /Users/HomeFolder/Library/Preferences to the desktop and restarted.

RoboDemo (Captivate) file links don't work in HTML Help
I have about 20 Flash movies (one .swf and one .html file
each) that I created using Captivate (formerly "RoboDemo"). They
are stored in a subfolder named "Demos" below the application
folder where my compiled Help file is stored. Each movie is
referenced in a Help topic with a statement like the following:

When I compile for WinHelp 4, the Flash movies run fine when
I open the topics that reference them as above. When I compile for
HTML Help, however, nothing happens when I open the topics that
reference them. All plain text topics and web page links appear to
work fine in the HTML Help version. I am running Help on my local
drive. I have a Windows XP machine. I am using RoboHelp 5.0 (a
little out of date, I know, could that be the issue???)

A forum search didn't return any results, so apologies if
this has already been asked and answered:
Where do I find the "HTML Help Studio"? We have a CHM that we
need to decompile as we no longer have the project itself, and the
instructions in RoboHelp Help indicate that this should be an
option on the Tools window.
However, I am not seeing this under Tools, nor under any
other menu option.
EDIT: We are using RoboHelp 7.
Thanks!You can also decompile outside RoboHelp, using hh.exe which
is part of Windows.
Open a command shell and navigate to the directory containing
the CHM to decompile (you may want to place a copy somewhere easy
to type like C:\test).
Give the command:
hh -decompile scratch MyHelp.chm
This will decompile the CHM file into a directory called
scratch. The directory will be created if it does not exist, and
files will be overwritten if they exist.
What this procedure does not give you is the project file
MyHelp.hhp; there are various tools which attempt to reconstruct it
but none seems to be perfect.

Why does a black warning triangle appear where my photos should be?
trying to move photos into files to place on a zip drive. All "events" have moved successfully except for 2 events that will not allow me to move them into a file. When I click on the event in iPhoto gallery, the photos appear at the bottom of my screen but a black screen with a triangle and exclaimation point appears where the enlarged photo should appear?
You have corrupted your iPhoto Library. Post in the iPhoto forum for advice on how to repair it.

In Facebook, the picture appears below the page, not where it should. Why?
In Facebook, when clicking on a picture that lives in an album, a new window appears with the picture in the frame below where it should be, not next to the comments. You have to scroll down an entire page to see the picture. This only happens in Firefox, not Chrome.
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

I ve iPhone 5s. Which is on version 7.1.2. The network is stacked on searching text. Even if I removed the sim. The usual "no sim" text is not there. It shows "searching..." .I ve downloaded ios 8.0.1 on the same phone. but, unable to install "an error occurred while installing message is appearing. What should I do to fix it?
in this recent thread I can't install ios 8.0.1 , our friend bobsuefert says:
"Be glad you can't install IOS 8.0.1 it's been withdrawn already. It caused more problems then it fixed."
Did you mean " stuck " on searching... ??

Cursor Working About 4mm Below Where it Should?
Hi there.
Pretty simple issue, though infuriating nonetheless - no matter what tool i use, or how zoomed in i am, the cursor clicks approximately 4mm below where it should - very annoying for intricate work.
Anyone know how to solve this, it's Photoshop CS4 on a Mac and it's only recently started to do it.Cheers, i did read that but it sorts it only only momentarily. It just returns to doing it pretty much immediately after.
Additionally, when i select areas of an image, say with the lasso tool, randomly selected square areas appear which i then have to deselect.

In the Videos App. That is where downloaded movies appear and that is where you play them - not in iTunes.

I have a new keyboard and two of the keys are inverted when I use my Mac -- but not when they put that keyboard on the Mac at the Apple Store. The @ is where the < should be and visa-versa. That is, when I type the @ I get < and when I type the < I get @. I am in Français numérique. Thanks
Try a SMC reset, please do it 2-3 times.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys. -
I get bullets where links should be - how do i fix it?
on certain but not all websites, i get bullets where links should be. when i hold my cursor over it and right click, the link appears in red along with the right click dialog box. whats going on and how do i fix it? seems to have happened since i updated the latest ff.

I need to create a report where stock should be calculated after every movement (after every document)
initial stock is 500
quantity on going stock
Doc 1 +100 600 = 500 + 100
Doc 2 - 200 400 = 500 + 100 - 200
The non cumulative KF doesnt help in this case. What would you recommend to use?create an DSO having time stamp as part of key and two key figures outgoing and incoming. This should provide you all the movement history.

Pics not showing up in "Events" AND "pictures" but "Finder" sees them ok
