Placing text within a double shape

Hey everyone,
I've been playing around with the shape and path tools in Photoshop CC this week, and have been creating text inside of shapes. It soon being valentines day, i thought i would try use the shape tool to create a heart and some text. I discovered in the custom shape tools a "double heart." What i was trying to do was set text so it would wrap inside of the boundaries of the two hearts, but i was having trouble getting photoshop to recognize the boundaries of the shape. Whenever i set the text cusor down inside the boundaries it just runs the text as if the shape wasn't there.
It's been relatively easy to do this with a solid shape, but I must be missing a step here. Enclosed is a screencap that explains what i'm trying to do.
Thanks in advance for the help!

You can use a clipping path to clip the text into the heart. Like so:

  • Placing text within a diamond within a rectangle

    I am trying to use Pages 6 to do some very basic Chen diagrams for a database course I am taking and what would seem like a simple task eludes me.
    I want to put some text in a diamond shape, then put that diamond shape in a rectangle. I can figure out how to put the diamond shape in the rectangle just fine, but putting text in the rectangle seems like an impossibility. I have tried every option I can find by option-clicking, command-clicking, and fiddling with the Inspector, but nothing seems to work. How can I get a diamond that allows text to be inserted in it AND that can be inserted into a rectangle?
    Ideally, I also want to scale the rectangle so each angle intersects with the rectangle. If that's not possible, fine, but it would be nice.
    Thanks!

    The possibilities are endless. You need to understand the basics.
    The default object moves with text and has wrap on. To really play with object layering you need to turn both these features off. Open the Inspector and click on the wrap tab. Select 'Fixed on Page' and uncheck 'object causes wrap. Do this for each object you create.
    Objects by default are also filled. Open the Inspector, click on the object tab and from the 'fill' pull down menu select none for no fill (just the object lines).
    Pages has transparency. All objects, again in the inspector, can be made transparent by adjusting the opacity slider.
    This is just the tip of the iceberg:
    With Pages open go to the help menu and select the 'Pages User guide.' In the manual open the section called 'working with graphics and other media'. There is tons of info in there.

  • Placing text inside curved shape

    i am having bit trouble placing the text inside this custom shape (i used custom shape tool)
    I followed one of the post found here Fitting text inside a custom shape but i couldn't get any results at all. Would someone maybe try to give me exact instructions on how to do this please.
    I would like to place this text inside yellow shape and text should follow the curved path of the shape.

    It's easier to apply the flag warp to both the Type and Shape layers at the same time, so start with your text, and create the shape layer below it.  Select both layers, and right click and choose Convert to Smart Object.  Then Free Transform > Warp

  • Text within textframe disappearing once placing tiled background

    Hello,
    I'm new with the creative suite and trying to navigate and learn!  Super steep learning curve..
    Here's my issue:  The text within my text frames in InDesign disappears when I place a tiled background I created in photoshop.  I've put the background .psd file in the bottom-most layer, tried sending it back, but for some reason, text in higher layers just keep disappearing.  Images will show up, but never text.
    Any help with this issue?  And I apologize in advance if this has already been answered somewhere in the forum.
    Many thanks!

    Sounds like you have text wrap applied to the background image. Either turn it off, or set the text frame options to "ignore Text Wrap"

  • Placing text in div causes the div to expand

    I have a floating div called itemboxfloat. It is a left floating div. I have placed a background image in the div which has the same dimension as the div but I had to specify no-repeat because if I used padding it would expand the space given for the background and it would tile. I can't really discribe whats happening but I am trying to place text in the div box and I am using the padding functions to located the top line of the text within the div. But as I add more padding to force the first line of text lower in the div. it seems to be expanding some boundry out the bottom of the div. My CSS if itemboxfloat and the div is also called itemboxfloat. I have included the code for your review.
    Thanks for your help

    Thats because you have height 110px set on the 'itemboxfloat' <div>. When you add padding to it, say padding-top: 20px; the divs height becomes 130px. Never set height on a <div> which contains text.

  • How to align text within an EditText?

    Hello,
    using this simple one as an example:
    var w = new Window('dialog');
    w.preferredSize = [200,100];
    w.et = w.add('edittext', void 0, "Some text");
    w.et.preferredSize.height = 40;
    w.show();
    The "Some text" is placed top-left in the EditText - is it possible to control its alignment, i.e. ['center', 'middle']?
    (just to be clear, I'm not interested in the EditText position within the Window, but just the text within the EditText itself).
    Thank you!
    Davide Barranca
    www.davidebarranca.com

    Davide, use the below example with either left, center, or right.  You have to have the justify line right after the line that creates the edittext box:
    #target photoshop
    var dlg = new Window('dialog','test')
    dlg.txt = dlg.add('edittext',undefined,'this it the text');
    dlg.txt.justify = 'center'
    dlg.txt.size = [200,60]
    dlg.show()

  • All the implications of placing text from another file

    Hi all,
    I have a large document with masters that I use for my proposals. I created all the masters I need in this file, then when I get a request for proposal, I just copy out the masters I need for that particular one (depending on the products requested).
    The original file is getting pretty big (175 MB), and I'm looking for ways to make it smaller, as it's starting to drag. I was thinking of cutting all text out of it, creating Word docs, then placing the text back in, but I had some questions.
    1. Will this really shrink the file size that much?
    2. How will the Word document be affected if I change text within InDesign? Do changes in InDesign change the original document?
    3. Will all of my character styles stay (such as highlighting the area where I need to fill in the customer's name)?
    If anyone could point me to a good reference on placing text or help me with some guidance I would much appreciate it. This is a big project and I want to start it correctly.
    Thanks!

    Before you do anything try file>save as and save the file that way.

  • Woes placing text; need benefit of your experience! [CS4 + JS]

    Hi-- I'm working on a routine for importing a number of text documents into InDesign, but have come up with odd behavior when placing text. I'm working with ID CS4 & javascript; all the actions perform the same when doing them manually.
    I start with text--actual unformatted text originating from a Word document, but saved as a text file--and with the text tool place it at the cursor position in a paragraph in 'body text' style; the text picks up formatting different than the style, namely the font from 'Headline' style, although pt size & leading are still 'body text' style.
    Yet when I cut the same text from a text editor, then paste it at the cursor position, the text appears as I expect, in body text style with no overrides.
    This is a small improvement: When I first tried placing the text,  it had been coming in with a character style applied. I noticed that the character style being applied was selected in the Quick Apply menu. Un-selecting the character style in the Quick Apply got me to where I am now.
    It's driving me nuts that I still can't figure out where the Headline-style font is coming from! Any pointers?
    Thanks in advance...
    Daniel
    p.s.: I'm trying the text import angle to avoid other problems I'd been having importing Word documents, namely importing any Word97-2003 document with highlighted text would crash ID, Word character styles adding direct formatting to the text in ID, etc.

    As promised, here is the code, as it stands, for whatever help it can be. The code is specific to my particular uses, but the approach of tagging various direct/character styles from Word, wiping all formatting then reapplying ID styles and removing the tags may be useful.
        ConvertWordBrute.jsx
        Problem: importing from regularly styled Word templated documents to CS4 can be a mess. Even if import presets are exactly set,
        if the Word doc has character styles, text can come in with layered character styles. Applying correct character styles and then
        removing  overrides won't fix because character styles and direct formatting are layered on every bit of text and formatting is not
        at all standard. To fix, all character styles AND overrides must be removed to wipe out the strangeness. This script shows one approach
         to keep italic, bold and bold italic direct formatting, and perhaps other stuff to preserve what the writers intended.
        The approach: tag formatting outside of ID's usual facilities, wipe all formatting clear, then apply the proper styles & character styles.
        Presumes:
            --A word import preset has been set...
            --Will need to trap for missing fonts? (e.g. Windings Bold, which is faked in Word; doesn't actually exist!)
            Left @: Works reasonably well. Probably should be run on before layout has sections.

  • InDesign Placed Text Linking Issue

    Hi - I've just recently updated to CS6 and am having an issue with linking placed text files.
    When I place the Word Doc into the InDesign file initially (not in position), the link to the original document is present in the 'Links' window as expected. However, I need to transfer this text into another text box on the page and of course when I do so the link is removed.
    Therefore, I tried placing the Word Doc directly onto the page in position (I have an autoflow setup that I need the text to run through) however when I do this no link appears in the window. To clarify, I have three separate text boxes setup on my master page that I need this linked text to flow through.
    Any suggestions how to solve this? I have run through the preferences and ensured everything is as it should be.
    Thanks!

    Sorry for the double post! I've solved it - for anyone else in the same boat, I created a Master Page with the linked text flowed through the 3 separate text boxes. I then selected to override the master objects on the realtime pages and relinked to different documents from there as needed.

  • Placing Images within Content

    Is this the correct method for placing images within the content?
    <img src= "img/204point.jpf" alt="204 Point System" />
    or is there a better method using CSS?
    This is not a background image, it is just an image amongst the text.

    Yes, that's the correct way, although .jpf is not a recognized extension for images. I assume it's a typo for .jpg. Also, the width and height of the image should be included. Dreamweaver should detect these automatically for you.
    Images are considered inline elements, so you normally need to use CSS to float them left or right to flow the text around them. Create the following style rules in your style sheet:
    .floatleft {
      float: left;
      margin-right: 8px;
    .floatright {
      float: right;
      margin-left: 8px;
    Select the image, and apply floatleft or floatright from the Class menu in the Property inspector.

  • RE Text to flow around shape

    In Pages 08 or 09 - Is it possible to get text to flow or follow around e.g. a sircle or anoter shape?
    What I am thinking of here, is something simular to word-art in MS word.
    You got some bad advice and accepted it and closed the topic.
    It's absolutely possible to have text flow around a shape. In word processing mode, highlight/select the shape/image, click the Inspector>Wrap. Set Wrap=yes. You can define how the text wraps around the shape, above-below only, surround, etc.. you can even define how closely the text wraps to the shape.
    Wait a little bit the next time you ask a question. The first person responding may not have the answer.

    Nope, wasn't rhetorical at all, Just wonder why it still has to be so hard to find.  I did finally figure out that if I copied the pic into the Pages doc.  from I-Photo via the Media Icon/tool, the text began to wrap.  I was frustrated before while trying to finalize a bio before my partner left so she could take it by a gallery displaying her work for an upcoming show.  I remember wishing for this capablilty in the late 1980's and was really frustrated because in MS Word 2008 for Mac I couldn't find any possibilty of Word or Text Wrapping and within Pages 2011, I could not get the necessary menu to highlight and therefore work.  If Mac just used the right mouse button and allowed icons, etc. to show up when moused over and help links to pop up when right clicked on, it would save soo much time.

(ie: the NEW Template Box, can't see but 2/3 of the content) is there a fix to this problem? using 8.1, Monitor is a high res.2560x1440.

  • [Forum FAQ] How to find and replace text strings in the shapes in Excel using Windows PowerShell

    Windows PowerShell is a powerful command tool and we can use it for management and operations. In this article we introduce the detailed steps to use Windows PowerShell to find and replace test string in the
    shapes in Excel Object.
    Since the Excel.Application
    is available for representing the entire Microsoft Excel application, we can invoke the relevant Properties and Methods to help us to
    interact with Excel document.
    The figure below is an excel file:
    Figure 1.
    You can use the PowerShell script below to list the text in the shapes and replace the text string to “text”:
    $text = “text1”,”text2”,”text3”,”text3”
    $Excel
    = New-Object -ComObject Excel.Application
    $Excel.visible = $true
    $Workbook
    = $Excel.workbooks.open("d:\shape.xlsx")
    #Open the excel file
    $Worksheet
    = $Workbook.Worksheets.Item("shapes")
    #Open the worksheet named "shapes"
    $shape = $Worksheet.Shapes
    # Get all the shapes
    $i=0
    # This number is used to replace the text in sequence as the variable “$text”
    Foreach ($sh in $shape){
    $sh.TextFrame.Characters().text
    # Get the textbox in the shape
    $sh.TextFrame.Characters().text =
    $text[$i++]
    #Change the value of the textbox in the shape one by one
    $WorkBook.Save()
    #Save workbook in excel
    $WorkBook.Close()
    #Close workbook in excel
    [void]$excel.quit()
    #Quit Excel
    Before invoking the methods and properties, we can use the cmdlet “Get-Member” to list the available methods.
    Besides, we can also find the documents about these methods and properties in MSDN:
    Workbook.Worksheets Property (Excel):
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff835542(v=office.15).aspx
    Worksheet.Shapes Property:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff821817(v=office.15).aspx
    Shape.TextFrame Property:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff839162(v=office.15).aspx
    TextFrame.Characters Method (Excel):
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff195027(v=office.15).aspx
    Characters.Text Property (Excel):
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff838596(v=office.15).aspx
    After running the script above, we can see the changes in the figure below:
    Figure 2.

    Thank you for the information, but does this thread really need to be stuck to the top of the forum?
    If there must be a sticky, I'd rather see a link to a page on the wiki that has links to all of these ForumFAQ posts.
    EDIT: I see this is no longer stuck to the top of the forum, thank you.

  • How can I detect a certain text within a field within CASE using IF

    Dear all,
    for a transformation / generation of values receiving from R/3 into BW I try to
    manupulate three fields. I have a problem detecting a string in a field.
    I am using a CASE with several WHEN clauses on one field. Depending on the
    value, an IF is integrated. There I look into another field evaluating, if it contains
    a certain string. E.g. IF STRING CP 'xyz' OR 'abc'.
    System gives error for the locigal expression. I also tried CS, but same error.
    How can I detect a certain text within a field and which is the right logical
    expression.
    Many thanks in advance!!!
    Claudia

    Hi,
    Folow the blow example...
    May be it helps....
    DATA: hex1 TYPE string,
          hex2 TYPE string.

  • How to apply style to partial text within a tag in xml file

    I have created a webpage using Dreamweaver CS4 Spry Regions. Everything is functioning as expecting, however now I need to apply a style to part of the text. Every occurance of the company name needs to be in italics - the problem is that the company name appears within different parts of the text within a set of tags.
    http://www.certifiedangusbeef.com/private1/sales/facts/index.php
    ie - <description> this is my company name which must appear in italics</description>
    In this example, only "company name" needs to be italicized. We have created an XSL file that applies the italics properly when the XML file is viewed in the browser. But it does not have any effect on the final web page - as though spry is blocking the XSL or we've missed a step in linking all the files together.
    Here's the XSL code:
