Planning for the future...
I've just started using Garageband to write my own music but as I'm more used to pro studios I'm finding it a little limiting, and consequently looking to upgrade to Logic.
This will probably mean buying a new machine. So, can anyone give me some bits of advice?
- What is the minimum size of Mac I should be looking at?
- Will any off-the-shelf mac be able to cope with running Logic and recording, or do I need to get anything customised?
- Should I use one machine exclusively for music?
- I will be recording anything from vocals to guitars, so what sort of interface should I be looking at?
- Is it as simple to write songs in Logic, or does it make sense to use GB as a "scratch pad" for building basics and then transfer to Logic to "take it to the next level"? Or am I just over complicating things?
- Should I really be doing this? Help...
1. You've got to be more specific
2. Yes, but a RAM upgrade is customary. 1GB should be considered an absolute minimum. A Hard drive for audio is also good if you use many tracks or samples,
3. That depends on what else you do. I don't do it. It is a good idea if you need it to work under high stress sutuation every day...otherwise you could start with 1 and see how things go.
4. Vocals to guitars...well if that's all you need...then an interface with 1 in and 2 outs would be the absolute minimum....realistically you should plan for the future. Get a sytem which has more I/O than you think you'll need and is expandable...someday you may need to record a drumkit and may have to start all over if you chose poorly. For I/O... I would consider more than you think you'll need. If you think you may need 2 ins max... consider 4 ins 4 outs...this is very small number of I/Os today. But if you know your needs ahead of time getter better converters instead of more is a very good idea (espescially if the system can expand well).
5. They share amny things... I find GB cumbersome to edit, whereas somebody else finds it's lack of features perfect for no distraction. I think eventually you'd just start using Logic full time. There are things GB won't touch.

Since we are all fellow users on here, not much we can offer in the way of a reliable answer...you might try letting Apple know your needs:

If enough people make their needs known, Apple may do something as you suggest. -
I'm going to save my old Hi8 tapes on a hard disk using final cut pro x, to save it for the future. But how shall I export it, and in what will be the best quality to save it in?
Hi Carsten...good luck with your project.. I had just about as many Video8 & Hi8 tapes as
you that I digitized and eventually brought into FCPX..took me many months not weeks
to do so,BTW, as each tape was 60-90 minutes in lenght...and many hundreds of
gigab ytes of storage ( uncompressed AVI files)..it's tedious work unless you plan to farm
it out to a processing house...also regarding eventual storage format...remember
Hi8 is 400 lines or about 540X480 in todays resoultion metrics..you can't make hi-def out
of source that starts out as 400 lines...in my case I rewrapped the avi files into .mov
containers and imported the mov files into FCPX where I got rid of the hundreds of
minutes of Colorado mountain landscapes to get to that one minute shot of the kids
on horseback ( late 80's for most of my archives)..so its a job..scouring thru 30X90 min
of source to not miss those precious memories takes diligence and hard work but its worth
it; eventually I encode the uncompressed video I want to save in H.264 format Staandard
Def not HiDef -
Question for the future..
...is it planned to enable Question for the future..
Is it planned to enable Smartphone/PDA software to use Adobe3D futures.
I think it is an essential question for travel engineering buiseness.

LarsHi,
My 5 years old computer works with only a minor problem but is has been fixed therefore I expect a 3 yrs old computer should work, but who knows !
Good luck.

CBO generating different plans for the same data in similar Environments
Hi All
I have been trying to compare an SQL from 2 different but similar environments build of the same hardware specs .The issue I am facing is environment A, the query executes in less than 2 minutes with plan mostly showing full table scans and hash join whereas in environment B(problematic), it times out after 2 hours with an error of unable to extend table space . The statistics are up to date in both environments for both tables and indexes . System parameters are exactly similar(default oracle for except for multiblock_read_count ).
Both Environment have same db parameter for db_file_multiblock_read_count(16), optimizer(refer below),hash_area_size (131072),pga_aggregate_target(1G),db_block_size(8192) etc . SREADTIM, MREADTIM, CPUSPEED, MBRC are all null in aux_stats in both environment because workload was never collected i believe.
Attached is details about the SQL with table stats, SQL and index stats my main concern is CBO generating different plans for the similar data and statistics and same hardware and software specs. Is there any thing else I should consider .I generally see environment B being very slow and always plans tend to nested loops and index scan whereas what we really need is a sensible FTS in many cases. One of the very surprising thing is METER_CONFIG_HEADER below which has just 80 blocks of data is being asked for index scan.

I want to upgrade my 2008 Mac pro to the latest one, will it meet the requirement for the future Software that's coming out for the next four years?.
I'd wait. What can't you do that you need? You mean you want to buy a new model, then why not wait for an actual new one, not the two year old 5,1, when you need to and have outgrown.
Yours will run Mountain Lion. yours is 4 yrs old and still supported and has life left. -

Dear experts,
awrsqrpt.sql is showing multiple executions plans for a single SQL statement. How is it possible that one SQL statement will have multiple Executions Plans within the same AWR report. If you're using bind variables and you've histograms on your columns which can be created by default in 10g due to the "SIZE AUTO" default "method_opt" parameter of DBMS_STATS.GATHER__STATS it is quite normal that you get different execution plans for the same SQL statement. Depending on the values passed when the statement is hard parsed (this feature is called "bind variable peeking" and enabled by default since 9i) an execution plan is determined and re-used for all further executions of the same "shared" SQL statement.
If now your statement ages out of the shared pool or is invalidated due to some DDL or statistics gathering activity it will be re-parsed and again the values passed in that particular moment will determine the execution plan. If you have skewed data distribution and a histogram in place that reflects that skewness you might get different execution plans depending on the actual values used.
Since this "flip-flop" behaviour can sometimes be counter-productive if you're unlucky and the values used to hard parse the statement leading to a plan that is unsuitable for the majority of values used afterwards, 11g introduced the "adaptive" cursor sharing that attempts to detect such a situation and can automatically re-evaluate the execution plan of the statement.

Is it necessary to create a Billing Plan for the Service Contracts
Hi All,
Is it necessary to create a billing plan for the service contracts.
My requirement.
In CRM 7.0, we created a service contract. For the item in that service contract there is a Billing Plan tab.
In that tab we have the dates for Period, Billing Date etc.
Now our requirement is to get the Billing Date quarterly. For this we created date rules and date profiles and assigned these date profiles to header and item level transactions.
And we are able to see the date rules under the drop down of the billing date.
I copied the standard date rule BILL004 to ZBILL004.
But when we changed to our date rule it is not changing to quarterly date.
Can you please let me know what are the configurations to be done for this.
Is the billing plan has to be created for this kind of scenario.
Thanks in advance
Thanks and Regards,
RaghuHi
On OK button's action you can Destroy the window and navigate to Page1.
Go through this link for more details and a step by step guide for creation of pop ups and dialog boxes

When someone trys to get into my iCloud on à different device, either then on my trusted devices, do i recieve then an email? i have à iMac iPad and iPhone and i live in Holland, is this possible or only for the future?
I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow. I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
You building supplied internet is a cheap service that is without proper routable addresses..
Therefore to use more than one IP you MUST have double NAT.. sorry there is no choice..
Slow that is because you are sharing internet with every other person in the building.. get your own broadband service.
Bridge will not work.. it cannot work because the building only has private IP addressing. And they only give you a single address.
You can put a password on the wireless.. go to the airport utility and put in a password.
Other than that I don't understand what password you expect.
Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
No NAT.. means the TC becomes a dumb Wireless AP and switch.. works fine with a cable modem router.. or any broadband router but useless with your building system.
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Double NAT, and set your own wireless names. There is no alternative.. sorry. -
I do not want a update automatic obligatory for the future firefox !!! Are we able to choose? PLEASE WE WANT CHOOSE !
Hit Alt then T then O. It will open the options dialog. Select the Advanced Tab, then select the Update tab. There will be an option to not check for updates. I would however strongly encourage you to upgrade to the latest firefox. It's much safer, faster, and easier to use.

IWeb Bugs and a wish for the future. :)
Hi there,
Two issues that I've found moving my photoblog to iWeb, and I'm wondering if they are bugs or issues that the community knows about:
1. I've changed the template I used a lot - font colours, background, etc. Now when I create a new blog entry, it uses the old, standard template and I have to change everything again. Is there a way to make iWeb realise that I've changed my "default" template settings so all new entries remain the same? It seems not. This is my feature wish.
2. Related to this, I solve this problem by just duplicating one of my existing pages and then changing the photo and content and date. The PROBLEM with this is where i think the bug exists. In iWeb, when I click Next/Previous, it goes between the different entries in chronological order, as expected... but when it publishes to .Mac, the next/previous buttons are really messed up, linking to articles/pages that are not even close to being near them in order. I've been able to determine that:
a. Create three new entries in iWeb. Works good.
b. Duplicate the middle entry, put it LAST in the order.
c. The NEXT button on this new, last entry links to the third item, just as the original 2nd item did before I duplicated it.
Is there any way to make iWeb re-calculate the next and previous buttons before you publish it? Or even better, any Apple folks around that can confirm/escalate this?
UPDATE: It's also possible that iWeb is ordering the next and previous buttons based on the time the entry was created in iWeb, rather then the time specified on the entry. If you are porting older entries from a previous blog, this can be a pain because you're not necessarily putting entries in from oldest to newest.
Either way - the behaviour isn't as expected: next and previous buttons ordered by the date specified in the iWeb 'Entries' window.
3. This is more advanced, but seems a bug none the less. I use .Mac publishing, because it's integrated and easy. But I also have my down domain, which I have configured to just "forward" to my .Mac folder. So, when someone goes to www.mydomain.com, the server connects to web.mac.com/me/iWeb/ and makes the request, translating the path. This works really great (save some initial headaches with character encoding), but comments in iWeb blogs don't work when you do this.
They work directly when you go directly to .Mac, but something about the comment system requires that the client browser accurately present the URL to the .Mac server, and in my case, it's reporting my domain name. As a result, when you click to add a comment, you get a "there has been an error" page and it dies.
If this little annoyance could be fixed in a point release version of iWeb, that would be AMAZING.
4. Lastly, one more wish for the future. .mac domain hosting. Domains aren't just for businesses - lots of people have them for their blog/photos/etc now. If I could make my domain point to my .Mac web hosting without any messy translation, I'd be in heaven. I don't even care if I only get my single e-mail address on the domain - just the hosting would be so excellent.
MacBook Pro 1.83 Mac OS X (10.4.6)It sounds like it! I ported about 10 new posts from my old MovableType installation last night and am seeing the same behaviour - duplicating entries definately breaks the chronological order of next/previous.
Apple?
Is there a place I can file a formal bug report? -
Please begin to work more for the future dear Canon.
I love Canon and I am a Canon guy for long time, but dear Canon, you lose so much time brush up models that in short time would be overwhelmed (EOS models), please take a look at the New Pentax 645D Medium Format, Hasselblad and Phase One which is the future photography format. Please begin to work more for the future dear Canon. Sincerely George.
Hmmm.. 20Mpix DSLR gives pin sharp A1/A0 prints. How much more do people want?
How much more can people use!
I'll take great AF, great light sensitivity, Auto-ISO with exposure compensation in Manual, all sorts of usability features, but frankly the thing holding back my photos isn't the resolution... and I only have 8Mpixels.
Perhaps Canon are working on a layered colour sensor that wouldn't need a bayer matrix, so buying 2 stops of sensitivity.. Now that I would buy!
Perhaps they'll bring back the eye-controlled AF/AE point selection.. oh yes pleeeese! -
i'm on a prepaid plan for the 4s, i want the hotspot option which isn't offered on the prepaid plan. heard the connection is too slow on the 4s only worth it on the 5 or 5s. would you agree? not sure how much the hotspot would increase my monthly bill....
To use the hotspot for any of those devices, I believe you have to switch to a postpaid account and plan. You can see the pricing for the available postpaid plans under the "Shop" area of the website.

If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.
See:
Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection tab. Make sure the D drive partition is set to OFF so that it does not save there.
