Planning ODI Infrastructure

I am new to ODI and now trying to plan the future ODI infrastructure.
I am considering "Single Master" architecture described by Cezar Santos. Since my environment already includes OBIEE, I am planning to use OBIEE Repository DB to host all ODI repositories.
Can I also leverage OBIEE Fusion installation for ODI?
What other ODI server components (other than source/target agents) need to be installed and what would be the installation process?
What would be the differences between PROD and non-PROD?
What are the potential drawbacks of the "share and consolidate" strategy?

I am answering my own question.
Its the ordering thats happening in staging area. So we are trying to sort based on metalink solution of modifying KM to sort our load.

  • SharePoint Apps Planning and Infrastructure

    Hi All,
I have tested the SharePoint Apps in our test server which is Single server environment.   Now, we are moving into production servers which has 4 WFEs and 1 App server. WFEs has minimum service applications and 1 App server has App management service,
    Search UPS etc,
Q: for wild card self-signed certificate that is required for Apps, where should I generate the certificate? Whether for 1 App server or individual certs for 4 WFEs?
Q: We need to propose valid SharePoint apps infrastructure to users for the production servers. Would 1 app servers and 4 WFEs meet the requirements for users?
    Please advise.
    Sandy

    Hi martusha and others,
Thanks for your reply. Point noted for your suggestion for commercial. Our organization has indeed has commercial license.
Number of users are around 3000.
Application server has most of services applications configured such as Search, UPS, Work Management Service, BSC, BI services etc.
4 WFEs have minimum services applications (Microsoft SharePoint Foundation incoming email, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Workflow Timer Service)
For SharePoint Apps, we are planning the host SharePoint Apps on Application server  and use the commercial license that will be used as wild card certificate on this server.
Q: My question is that do we have add wild card certificate on Application server or wild card certificate on each WFE.
Q: Above question will dictate our architecture for SharePoint Apps.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Planning ODI issues

One of our planning consultants asked this question recently
"we're having bizarre results here when using ODI to load Planning metadata.
It was doing a dense restructure nearly every time it ran even though the
    accounts weren't changing.
I finally figured out that it's changing the hierarchy most of the time when
I load. I made no changes to ODI and ran the routine 6 times. The outline
was slightly different each time it ran!"
Have you seen anything like this?

  • Loading Attribute Dimension - Hyperion Planning

    Hello Everyone,
I appreciated a lot informations that I found here. I red the http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/2008/11/odi-series-loading-essbase-metadata.html
about loading attribute dimension on Essbase, but when I try to execute the same steps using Hyperion Planning Adapter in ODI, I cannot see the option inside the model to reverse also all dimension attribute, hence I cannot load members on my dimension attribute. Do you know how can I develop the attribute dimension load on Hyperion Planning?
    Regards,
    Wallace Galvão
    Brazil

    Hi,
You first need to create the attribute dimension in planning, ODI does not create dimensions.
Once you have created your attribute dimension you can reverse the planning application again and the attribute dimension should be created as a DataStore
    Cheers

  • Capacity planning and hardware sizing

    Hi,
I would like to know in detail about capacity planning and hardware sizing while deploying oracle database products. I need to know about properly planning the infrastructure and configuring and deploying the products. Moreover, when should we use RAC,how many nodes, exadata, DR etc. How to size hardwares RAM,Disk for this kind of implemetations.
I know it depends on budget and environment. Still if anyone kindly give some links/docs I will be able to have a decent start in this domain.
    Regards,
    Saikat

See , they all depend on your company policy and the database size that they are going to have.
    1. Size : i have worked on databases sizing from 80G to 2000G , all depending on the client or the industry you are catering to.
    2. hardware and Ram : Server Team should know this better , you can have a simple small server if the DB and application are small and the usage would be less. If it a full fledged system with high load then you need to get in touch with your server team and raise an oracle SR for exact specifications for that database and also plan for some future growth.
    3. RAC : depends on the project if it requires such a setup.
    4. DR : is for disaster management. Also all companies implement this by adopting data guard ( physical standby).
    5. For having a good start , start reading the books and refer to oracle documentation. More you refer , more knowledge you will get .
Start with the basics.... make your basics strong.. and then move ahead with complex setups.

  • Pool : best practice ODI : PLSQL or Interface object ?

    Hello,
My ODI consultant has developped an interface to load a flat file into Hyperion Planning :
    * first step : load flat file into staging : done with "Interface" object
    * second step : transform staging table (1,2,3 ==> JAN, FEB, MAR // transform "-" into ND_Customer ... very easy transformation !) : done trough a PLSQL Procedure. Result is load into FACT_TABLE
    * third step : load FACT_TABLE into ESSBASE : done with "interface" object
During design, we didn't discuss the technology, but after the build, I'm very suprised by the second step. There is no justification to do it with PLSQL. My consultant explains me : "I'd rather to use PLSQL". But from my point of view, ODI best practice is to use "Interface" (more flexible, you can change the topology without impact in interface etc ...)
What is your point of view? Should I raise an issue and expect from my consultant a rewriting with "interface" object?
    Rgds

Thx SH, the complexity (use of two intermediate tables : STAGING and FACT) is due to our requirment to archive the original data during one year (in STAGING) and to give an audit trail from Essbase to original data (before transformation). From Essbase we could go back to FACT Table (same member name) then goes back to STAGING by using and unique ID that produces a link between tables.
From my point of view ODI Interface is the simplier way to maintain the "mapping", instead of PLSQL, but I would have more feedbacks from other developper to be sure of my feeling (I've done only 2 Hyperion Planning + ODI Project before the current one).
The complexity of interface are low or medium : simple filter on one or two dimensions / DECODE mapping on Month / group by on similar records / for few interfaces, more complexe rules with IF statement.
    Thx in adavance

  • Urgent! Important Regarding Running ODI Interfaces in Different Contexts!!

    Hi all,
I have three different instances in which i have to run an ODI interface i.e. Development,Testing and Production .
I have craeted interfaces in development context.
When i am trying to run it in testing context, some of the interfaces erred out saying table or view does not exists(For $ table).
Actually it by default picking up the Development context and creating those $ table in dev instance only.
But when i reimport the LKM file to sql and attach the New imported LKM ,its running fine.
IS this Problem anyway related to ODI cache.IF yes, Can anyone tell how we can delete the ODI cache before runing interfaces in different Context.
Anyhelp or pointer regarding this will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Priyanka

    Hi Guys
I got two interfaces: 1.load_ initial_ps_data & 2.load_hourly_ps_data in one package called LOAD_PS_DATA and one odiFileCopy that copies files from the dev environment to the shared target drive. The ODI infrastructure is as follows 1. Two Work repository running on Linux 2. Master repository running on linux. Then, I schedule'from linux box' the agent to run the scenario LOAD_PS_DATA hourly.
    My problems are as follows
    1. If the schedule agent is started from the ODI server, during its hourly execution it places "/" and end of the physical file path i.e the physical file path defined from the topology is
//nimbari.up.ac.za/ODI_GR/guestrecord.txt so when the schedule kicks off from the linux box where ODI server is intalled it adds extra '/' as follows //nimbari.up.ac.za/ODI_GR//guestrecord.txt and when I check from the operator it say file not found. I tried to replace the '/' with '\' from the path but still not working. To my suprise, when I start the schedule agent from the ODI client installed on my windows machine every thing works fine
    2. I would like to be able to determine the context in which the package was run, during the run time, and then store that context  in a variable
Your help will be higly appreciated
    Thanks

I have read many articles about how to setup the app model in SharePoint 2013 and am running into an issue that I hope someone can assist with.   First my setup...
This is a basic farm with just a SQL server and a SharePoint server.  We only have two Web Apps.

I just recently read this great article but because of my current setup I hope that I do not need to have a separate web app as my wildcard ssl is already created.

  • SharePoint 2013 Apps shows 404 page not found on web front end servers.

    Hi All,
We are implementing SharePoint Apps for our UAT environment with 1 application server and 2 WFEs. In our development server which is single server worked for implementing SharePoint Apps.
All our web applications WFEs are hosted UAT environment and SharePoint Server 2013 is enterprise with this build number 15.0.4420.1017 (RTM). In the Application Server we enabled App management service and Subscription management through
    PowerShell.
This DNS configuration is as follows:
contoso.com with IP address for Application server (192.168.10.12) 2 different IP address for WFEs
      192.168.10.14/15).
contoso-apps.com for wild card DNS required by SharePoint Apps and pointed to
    Application server (192.168.10.12).
We have created self-sign certificate on one the WFE server, create a web application dedicated for SharePoint Apps
without host header and bind the self – sign certificate to the SharePoint Apps web application. DNS is correctly configured on the WFE and we are able to
    ping abc.contoso-apps.com.
The App Catalog site is working and we are able to download SharePoint apps. But for the WFEs, when go to SharePoint store
it does shows the content for Store and when download an app and click on Add IT and signed as Office ID we get 404 page not found.
We referred the following sites that relate this 404 error:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sharepoint_-_inside_the_lines/archive/2013/06/23/404-amp-401-errors-with-the-app-management-service.aspx
    http://sharepointchick.com/archive/0001/01/01/setting-up-your-app-domain-for-sharepoint-2013.aspx
    http://absolute-sharepoint.com/2013/02/troubleshooting-setting-up-an-environment-for-apps-for-sharepoint-2013.html
    http://www.jeremythake.com/2013/12/troubleshooting-sharepoint-2013-hosted-apps-on-premises-404-not-found-error/
    https://samlman.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/planning-the-infrastructure-required-for-the-new-app-model-in-sharepoint-2013/
But in my case we have already defined a blank host header for SharePoint Apps that we create previously.
Is it because we not using latest patch as Steve Peschka that March PU fixed this issue?
Any other solution we should look to fix this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Sandy

    Your contoso-apps.com
wildcard address should point to one of the WFE servers, not the Application server.  (Actually it should point to the load balancer for the WFEs, but you don't mention a load balancer.)  Apps generate a dynamic HTML web site on the WFE server.  If
you point to the application server it may not be able to deliver that content if the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Service isn't turned on.  (That's what makes a server a WFE)

  • Best Practice for Instance

    Hi
what is the best practice for weblogic in terms of creation of instance. Suppose I have 10 applications which are independent but can be grouped in 3 bunch. So whether all should go under once instance or more than one instance is advisable.
    Thanks
    Vishal

Start with 1 if you can run all 10 apps on 1 instance and your apps are not going to handle much load.
But you still have to do your homework to plan your infrastructure properly. For instance, you may need more than 1 physical server due to network topology, you may need a cluster with many instances simply due to the amount of load your applications may need to handle (or you may have strict HA requirements), you may need different domains because your apps require different versions of the app server, etc.

  • Why we need SSL Certificates for configuring App Server in Sharepoint

    Hi Support,
We are planning to have a separate server for Apps, while configuring the server its asking for certificate. The main scenario is while configuring server inside the same firewall why we need SSL for configuring.
Could you please let me know the reason why we need SSL for configuring App Server.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards,
    Pradeep

    Hi  Pradeep,
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a transaction security standard that provides encrypted protection between browsers and App Servers. When SSL is enabled for an App Server, browsers communicate with the App
Server by means of an HTTPS connection, which is HTTP over an encrypted Secure Sockets Layer. HTTPS connections are widely used by banks and web vendors for secure transactions over the web.
Secure Sockets Layer  is a requirement for web applications that are deployed in scenarios that support server-to-server authentication and app authentication. This is such a scenario. As a prerequisite
for configuring Task Synchronization, the computer that is running SharePoint Server must have SSL configured.

  • How to choose between Web AS JAVA / ABAP /  ABAP+Java ??

    Hello,
Does any one has an idea, what should be the criteria for choosing the web AS instance for NW Enterprise portal?
    let us make it simple......
<b>Can we compare (WEB AS JAVA/ABAP/ABAP+Java ADD-ON) & come up with advantages & disadvantages of the above three ?</b>
    Regards
    Sunil Kulkarni

    Hi Sunil,
I think there is no official statement except that both is possible, it depends on your needs.
    But check out these docs:
    http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Netweaver 04 -> Planning -> Technical Infrastructure Guide - SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0
    and
    http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Netweaver 04 -> Installation -> Installation Guide - SAP EP 6.0 (SR1) on WebAS 6.40
there you'll see that also the installation is more complex. Also patching the whole system will take more time as you have to patch also all the ABAP components of the application server.
If you can think of any need to have an ABAP stack on the same system, then make a good decision, because you can't install the ABAP stack afterwards as you can with the JAVA addin.
