Play (in shell) consumes 100% of CPU

If I execute in the shell:
# play myfile.mp3
it consumes 100% of CPU. However, playing music with mplayer or other players consumes only 3 or 4%.
My desktop is KDE4.4.
I don't have a need for it, but it looks like a bug.

Try `strace`ing the running process. Any fd's can be looked up in /proc/$PID/fd

  • Itunes consumes 100% of CPU 15 seconds after startup

I was using iTunes 8, and experienced the following very annoying problem : 15 seconds after startup, the itunes application starts to consume 100% of CPU, and the application is not responding anymore. If I started to play a file within those 15 seconds, the file continues to play normally, but I cannot stop it anymore, and I cannot work on my PC (as 100% of CPU is taken by iTunes).
I tried to upgrade to iTunes 9.2, but the problem persists.
Any idea what can be the cause of this problem ? It prevents me to use iTunes on my PC.
    Config of the PC :
    - Windows XP
    - 1 Gbyte RAM
    - AMD 1.14 GHz

  • DBSNMP consuming 100% of CPU

I'm currently in the process of implementing Grid in our environment. I've created the repository database, installed the OMS and have deployed agents. Everything appears to be functioning. However, I began to notice that DBSNMP would connect to the targets, issue a metrics-gathering query which would consume 100% of CPU, and retain that consumption until I killed it (in some cases over an entire weekend). I'm running the OMS and repository database on Solaris 10 while the agents are running on 5.9. The Oracle versions are 10.2.0.3.
Has anybody encountered this problem and if so, what did you do to solve it?
    Much appreciated.

I haven't seen this issue..looks like it's a big problem if it consumes 100% of CPU.
I'm just installing Grid Control on Solaris 10. I'm almost done with the 10.2.0.1 installation and i plan to upgrade GC to 10.2.0.3 next. You've had no problems upgrading, have you?
Did you install the patches they recommend?

  • Dock consumes 100% of CPU and fan runs.  What to do?

I have a 2010 MBP with SSD and VMWare (not Parallels).  Every so often, the dock cranks up to consume 100% of the CPU, and the fan runs.  The problem goes away when I reboot. I've tried quiting various applications, but it doesn't seem to make a difference (i.e. I cannot identify a rogue app that's causing this).  There are a lot of discussion threads on this problem with OS 10.6.8 and Parallels, but I'm running Lion 10.7.1 and VMWare (which I've shut down).
Any others have this issue?  Ideas for solution?

Small update: Despite my intelligence, good looks and vast experience I use Google sometimes. To my surprise this file turns out to be a Windows one. Here is someone who is much happier, and since it is some way in my line of thinking I'll quote it, but you might take my previous advice as well:

    - Disable ALL Realtek entries
    - Close msconfig.exe

    - Go to the enhancements tab
    - Check the box to disable all audio enhancements
    - Close the menu

  • Clouds process consuming 100% of cpu

Whenever MBP is not able to connect to internet, the cloudd process consumes 100% cpu.
This is draining the battery in a very short time.
Internet connectivity, either lack there of or because of corp. firewall rules send this process into 100% consumption.
Only work around is to disable all items in iCloud control panel, which is painful for access and re-sync.

Does the it eventually recover on it's own? It's possible that the JVM is doing full garbage collection.  How big is your max heap size?  I suggest to add some garbage collection debugging in the JVM_OPTS to see if it is Java's garbage collection or not.  Might as well check the heap too, to see if it's running our of memory.
    Example;
    -verbose:gc -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintTenuringDistribution -Xloggc:/tmp/gc.log -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:HeapDumpPath=/tmp

  • Gnome-shell uses 100% of cpu!

    Hello,
after some time, gnome-shell starts to use all of my cpu (well, one core out of 2). The navigation becomes sluggish, applications need several seconds to refresh.
How can I determine what is causing this? It is really annoying, as I have to close all my work when this occurs.

  • Oracle 11g R2 consuming 100% CPU on execution plans

    Hi Friends
I just installed oracle 11.2.0.1.0 on Windows 2008 Server R2.
I got 4GB of RAM = 2536MB for SGA and 600M for PGA
I'm running a processes that is consuming 100% of CPU ant its showed on execution plan of every statement this utilization.
I have worked with disk_asynch_io parameter to FALSE and had no improvement on performance.
Reading a doc relating to a bug I set up the dbwr_io_slaves to 4 but no changes.
Now I'm stuck on asynch descriptor resize wait event for more than 4 hours.
Any ideias os tips or experience about this issue?
    Tks a lot

Well, Tks for your help guys,
The problem was solved "almost" at all by disabling MEMORY_TARGET and SGA_TARGET and setting up all the memory parameters manually.
This has eliminated the event "asynch description resize" and the overall performance of the DB has increased. I was able then, to complete my operation.
I believe its a Windows bug or a poor design or configuration of mine. But at this time we are able to run the system well and fast enough.
    Tks a lot

  • Process 'rastertobrother5240' consuming 100% CPU

    Hello,
For the past 2 days, a printer process named 'rastertobrother5240' has been starting up intermittently (~4 times a day) and consuming 100% of CPU time. I guess this started happening after I applied a recent printer update. Has anybody faced a similar issue?
    Thanks,
    Kshitij

I assume you are using a Brother printer. Open Activity Monitor, locate the process and select it then click on the Quit icon in the toolbar and click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. Now open Print & Fax preferences and CTRL- or RIGHT-click in the printer list on the left, then select Reset Printing System from the contextual menu. If you have not installed the Brother printer driver update from Apple then download it here.
    Now do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Install the printer package update. If you installed it already then reinstall it. Now re-Add your printer and see if everything is OK. If it isn't then you may be having a problem with the Brother software for your printer. Check Brother's site for any updated software and/or contact their tech support for additional help.

I you have any clue what might be going, I would be very happy to hear it. It's really annoying, as I have to kill explorer.exe and thereby close all my folder windows when this happens.
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    David Trapp

    Hello,
thanks for having a look. However, I already ran SFC before posting on this forum (as part of my own investigation) and it came back clean. RescueTime (a time tracking tool) is probably not the culprit because it happened also several times in the past without
RescueTime being running (that was because I had accidentally removed it from autorun at that time).
Unfortunately, I can't follow your "invalid date" explanation. I don't think an "invalid date" is anywhere involved; in fact, the method in question is called "_TreeInvalidateItemInfo" and not "_TreeInvalidDateItemInfo"
(note that there is only one "d"), so I assume its job is just to invalidate (and in turn, refresh) the cached information about nodes in the left pane's folder tree of the explorer window(s) - since the folder tree is the only NamespaceTreeControl
(whose corresponding class name is CNscTree) in explorer folder view windows. As I see it, something is causing explorer to repeatedly refresh the folder tree data, but I am stuck at finding out what exactly.
    Best regards,
    David Trapp
EDIT: Disassembling ExplorerFrame!CNscTree::_TreeInvalidateItemInfo confirms that, because it seems to call TreeView_SetItem for a tree node and its parent (possibly with all fields set to *_CALLBACK), and CNscTree::_UpdateItemDisplayInfo
    for the parent node.
EDIT2: I'd love to dig more into the trace, however I am hitting a wall at function names/addresses. Everywhere where I would expect a function name/address (such as the "by stack" views), I only see question marks instead. What
    could be the reason?

  • Why does my iWork update hang with zsh consuming 100% cpu?

The App Store updates for iWork Apps (Numbers, Keynote, Pages) have hung for me multiple times.  After some digging, the hangs appear related to setting zsh as my default shell (Open Directory UserShell /bin/zsh).  When an update is hung in App Store, Activity Monitor shows zsh is consuming ~100% cpu.  Inspecting the process, it's hung on zsh -c defaults delete com.apple.helpd com.apple.helpd.sdmMapsCreated or something similar each time.  If I kill the hung process enough times, eventually the update completes.
Most recently encountered updating to Numbers 3.5.2 on OS X 10.10.1 with $SHELL=/bin/zsh 5.0.5 (x86_64-apple-darwin14.0).
Possibly related to keynote not installing.
Definitely related to http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/146919/zsh-using-100-of-cpu-during-iwor k-install.  The workaround described here is the only way I've gotten through it.

You probably deleted something crucial to the stability of the operating system. I suggest backing up your important files, and doing a complete reinstall.

Is this a new application on this database?
Has it run well in the past?
I have had this happen before on a 32bit Windows server. Our problem was a poorly written procedure that kept pegging the cpu to 100%. You should be able to figure out what SQL is being used that is causing this problem, it will be the Top Working SQL most likely.
I also had this problem on a Logical Standby server which was trying to apply SQL to the SYS.AUD$ table. As soon as SQL Apply was started, the CPU went to 100%. Once I truncated that table, the cpu usage went back to normal. Not sure what you are using to monitor your database but if you can, try to find out what SQL is running when your CPU goes to 100%.

Active Session History (ASH) performed an emergency flush. This may mean that ASH is undersized. If emergency flushes are a recurring issue, you may consider increasing ASH size by setting the value of ASHSIZE to a sufficiently large value. Currently, ASH size is 2097152 bytes. Both ASH size and the total number of emergency flushes since instance startup can be monitored by running the following query:
    select total_size,awr_flush_emergency_count from v$ash_info;

  • Opening VI and consuming 100% CPU power

I am trying to debug my VI. The first few times the VI ran well but suddenly the VI hang up. I have no choice but to end the LabView process using the Task Manager. When I try to restart this VI again, it fails to open and the Task Manager indicates that the LabView program is now consuming 100% of the CPU time but still fail to open this VI. Looks like it is entering into an infinite loop. I cannot fix anything for I cannot go into my VI to change anything. LabView just consumes all the CPU power and do nothing. What went wrong?
    Regards,
    Larry

Okay.  That is very strange.  I am seeing the same behavior.  (I have LV 8.2)
When I first downloaded the VI, it opened just fine.  If I did a saveas, closed the VI, and reopened the copy, I got 99% CPU usage.  I reopened the one from the message, no problem.  I left that one open and tried opening the one I had saved.  It said I already had one in memory by that name do I want to view the one in memory or replace?  I said replace.  When it opened to the block diagram, everything was okay.  But when I clicked on the window to view the front panel, that is when the CPU usage jumped up again.
So somehow the problem is associated with the FP.   Nothing looks particular wrong about your code.  The question is how did you manage to get a copy of the file that isn't causing problems when you open it?
I think you will want to recreate the VI from scratch.  You are able to view a copy to see whay you have which is good.  And it doesn't look too complicated.
What is interesting is that if I delete everything from the VI's block diagram (leaving nothing apparent on the FP), save, close, reopen, I still get the extreme CPU Usage.  It seems confined to LV, as I am still able to switch over and working within the browser to answer this message.

  • One boe_jobcd process allways consuming 100% CPU

Hi, I am running  Crystal reports server XI R2 Linux     on RHEL4
Normally we have from 1 up to 4  boe_jobcd  processes depending on the "load" of our system, The processes seems to shutdown when not needed, But now  one of the 4 BOE_JOBCD processes will never die and it is consuming 100% cpu...
    Can I stop/kill the process?  How ?

    Dear Both,
I traced the RAS server as suggested by Tim and obtained a log that - I have to admit - is quite difficult for me to understand. Could I send it to one of you for examination? Thanks in advance.
Ted, please find below my answers to your questions:
Just to close out possible data source issues, are the reports going against Business Views or Universes?
The report is based on Business Views.
Do you have Processing Extensions specified for the reports?
Sorry but what are Processing Extensions?
Also, when you checked in the Crystal Reports Designer, was it Designer installed on the same machine where the page server and RAS server is running?
Yes, it is installed on the same machine.
Also, since it affects both Page Server and RAS, it may require CRPE traces to get to the bottom of this (CRPE - 'creepy' - is the CR engine used by both the Page and RAS server).
I will certainly open a case with SAP to have them help me on that.
Thank you both for your help. It is very appreciated.
