Playback cursor not smooth

Question

So I NEED to be able to make an image enlarge and get smaller rapidly to the bass line of a song. The playback cursor only moves in large increments when I try to match it to the fast bass. Please Help Urgently

If you are key framing by hand then you can only move the CTI one frame at a time. As long as your frame rate is one of the standard frame rates from 23.976 to 59.94 you should have plenty of resolution. If you are zoomed way in on the timeline you may not be able to see very much of the waveform.
If it were my project I would take the Audio track into Audition and isolate the Bass as much as I can, render reference audio track, import that into AE and use the Keyframe Assistant to convert Audio to keyframes. I would then add this simple expression to the scale property of the layer or if you are using a 3D layer modify the expression and add it to the Z property so the image moves towards and away from the camera.
Here's the expression for scale:

You can figure out what the range of the first set of numbers by selecting the Audio Amplitude layer Both Channels and enabling the graph editor. You'll get a visual representation of the keyframes. You can then adjust the first set of numbers. This linear expression takes the values of from the akf (Audio Amplitude) layer and converts them to scale so when the value is 1 the scale is 25 and when the value is 10 the scale is 100.
If you are completely lost let us know, but this will get you there in about 10 minutes once you have the audio track imported into AE.
