Playback window and License caching trouble

Hi,
we have a Flash Access 2.0 DRM license server built using the reference design. We have a working setup with a default policy where the License Caching is disabled and unlimited playback window and we're now trying to add new functionality to enable offline viewing. We have however run into some problems.
We have set License caching duration to 7 days and Playback window to 24 hours. This seems to work ok for a while but on some computers we have seen the following behaviour:
The user has several videos downloaded, some where the 7 days license caching has expired and some where both the playback window and the license caching are still valid. When the user download yet another video ALL the previous videos get the same license expiration date as the last one and the play window seems to be extended to the full license caching period of 7 days.
We have seen this behaviour on both Windows 7 and Vista but not on XP so far.
Do you have any idea what could be causing this behaviour?

It is fine to use the same policy for multiple pieces of content. Typically, a content publisher will have a small number of policies, and use those policies for their entire content library. As Xuan Liu mentioned, if multiple pieces of content share the same license ID, then a single license will be used to protect all of the content. If, in fact, the user has some licenses that have expired and some that are still valid, then it doesn't look like all the content is sharing the same license.
Do you have license chaining enabled? With license chaining, each piece of content has a leaf license, which can specify the license expiration. Leaf licenses are associated with a root license, and the root license can extend the expiration date for all leaf licenses associated with the root. License chaining is enabled through the policy.

How did you determine that the expiration has been extended for all the existing videos? If you are not using license chaining, I suspect that when you go back to an older video, since the license has expired, it is actually requesting a new license from the license server (you should be able to verify this by looking at your license server logs). Since your policy says the license can be cached for 7 days, the new license is valid for 7 days from when it is issued. However, if the 24 hour playback window has already been used, it would not be extended. Playback window can only be used one time for each piece of content. If the playback window had already been used before the license caching period elasped, you would not get another 24 hour playback window when you get a new license on that machine for the same content.

Okay, I found the code but I can't get it to work locally. If you have a web server maybe you can upload the files (swf and html) after you Publish them:

you have to have on the stage a link element called "testlink" (see the code above) which would be a Movie Clip with the label testlink. It can be anything from InDesign: a button, a rectangle, a circle, a graphic, you get the idea. Just select that object in Flash and label it testlink or anything you choose but if you change the name from testlink also change the name in the code snippet where the line "addEventListener" is.

ALL Windows laptops exhibit playback drops and stuttering

I have three Windows-based laptops that all experience this problem: Playback from iTunes to remote speaker(s) will start, but after a period of a couple minutes, playback will begin to pause and stutter to the point where it's no longer music, but just a broken, jittery series of annoying sounds.
All my Macs can play music to a single remote speaker or multiple remote speakers with no difficulty, so this seems to be less of a network problem and more of a Windows problem.
This is further compounded by the varations in hardware. Two Windows PCs are Dells, while one is a Gateway, so, again, this starts to point the finger at Windows and not necessarily the hardware.
The final indictment against Windows is that I can watch the wireless connection status and know that a sound hiccup is on the way when an 802.11g connection speed drops below 54Mbps or an 802.11b connection drops below 11Mbps.
It seems that Windows will absolutely deny any sort of stream to continue if it cannot maintain it at the highest possible speed, even though the lowest possible speed is still more than enough bandwidth to get the job done.
Has anyone else experienced this exact problem?
I ask that quite specifically because there are lots of other similar posts, but this has nothing to do with my Windows IDE channel being in PIO mode instead of DMA, or a corrupted QuickTime installation. There is no trouble whatsoever for any of the Windows-based computers to play music locally.
It's not the problem that's introduced when the WiFi multicast bandwidth limitation comes to bear. Single and multiple speakers play back for nearly the same amount of time before the stuttering starts.
It seems that Windows is very, very concerned with making sure that an established WiFi connection is as fast as possible; the stuttering starts when Windows reports the connection speed drops below maximum.

nVidia still claim that future driver revisions will enable hardware-acceleration, but rumours say the hardware is faulty. I have yet to see anything official about that rumour, but several techsites are doing stories on it, so I'd imagine an answer will surface soon enough.
I have the nVidia DVD Decoder, and HD MPEG-2 clips now play with a very low cpu-load, 15-20% for 720p (50-55% without the nVidia-decoder) and 25-30% (70-75% without the nVidia-decoder) for 1080i/p. My cpu is a stock AMD XP2400.

ok, i've seen this question asked a number of times. i know the general procedure:
- first download some installer things to a window box so i can make a bootable DVD / flash drive
- go the mac and use the DVD / usb stick to install the virtual machine
great.. BUT :
1) unfortunately, i'm still really confused at the most basic part which is where (link) do i actually get the initial download thing to create the 8.1 *PRO* from microsoft and where (link) / how do i pay for the subscription key to install the thing????
i keep seeing a link for windows 8 or windows 8.1 where windows PRO is NEVER mentioned. i ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE a) PRO 64 bit and NOT vanilla windows and b) it MUST BE A FULL INSTALL (i'm not upgrading from windows 7, 8 or 8.1 NON pro.. i'm going
to be installing this thing on a brand new system.
i'm an IT guy for two decades and i can tell you trying to find, download, install a clean version of windows 8.1 PRO is a royal pita and nothing about windows 8.1 PRO is intuitive on the MS site. it's almost as if they do NOT want you to install the
thing. i'm not trying to bust jewels here, i'm just being honest and providing feedback that you folks need to make this much more clear and intuitive. people really shouldN'T have to post on forums to find out how to purchase, download and enter
in a subscription key for a base version of an OS. it's crazy.

2a) first if my windows 8.1 pro experiment on mac parallels sucks, i want to be able to remove the authorization so i can reinstall 8.1 pro on another system.   can i / how do i do this in my scenario?
2b) i actually already bought windows pro 8.1 about a year ago (to upgrade a laptop that came with 8 that i needed to upgrade to vanilla 8.1 then to finally to pro) so that i could windows phone 8.1 development with simulator on the laptop. unfortunately
the laptop maxed out at 4G and the performance of the emulator was ridiculously slow that it's unusable. i'd love to somehow be able to put the laptop back to windows *vanilla* 8.1 and reclaim my 8.1 pro that i *already* purchased by removing the authorization
from that laptop allowing me to reinstall the full 8.1 pro with the same key on the mac with parallels. then i can sell the laptop that has sat there collecting dust for a year and regain my windows 8.1 pro investment vs having to buy another copy for
the mac.
i have no idea how to do this though i think it should be possible. can anybody tell me where / how i do this?
note the win pro 8.1 install never went well so i actually had some guy from MS login to my laptop remotely and do the install.. in doing so i believe he wiped away the original windows vanilla 8.1 recovery partition asus put on the drive meaning i'm not
sure i can get the laptop back to 8.1 or 8 vanilla so i can resell it functionally to another person while removing my 8.1 *pro* license from it.   any suggestions here highly welcome.
2c) once i get the windows 8.1 pro installed in a vm under parallels, i'll have one licensed copy running. my guess is that is what i'm limited to. but when you start working with VMs the whole purpose is to be able to create multiple test
enviornments and dispose of them when you don't need them etc.   since the window will be tied to the single mac hw id, will i be able to install multiple *win* vms (duping an exising win vm for instance) from the one license or must i purchase
multiple win licenses for each win vm on the SAME system?   if you need a new license for each vm, wouldn't i have to do a FULL WINDOWS INSTALL every time i wanted to create another windows VM.. THAT IS CRAZILY INEFFICIENT...
there has to be some kind of option to dup a windows licensed vm on the SAME system yes? what are the rules / procedures for making this work.
i'm using parallels on mac as an example but the same question would apply to using hyperV (which i know nothing about at this point) as the virtual host platform as well.
i'm open to well thought out links that actually answer these questions succinctly in addition to comments here

A Cloud subscription provides for installing working installations on two machines. You can have mixed operating systems (both Windows and Apple's OX).

I have had this problem before and had to reinstall an earlier version of firefox.
The error console has a long list of errors, many of them end with: does not implement nsIObserver. Is there a way to send the information on the error console to firefox support?
Redownloading Firefox 4.0 will fix my problem until I either close firefox or turn off my computer. The problem recurs when I open firefox again.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />

In addition to Camera roll and iPod cache default albums, I have 6 other albums made from pix derived from the camera roll. Eg - Family pix in a folder, Office pix in another, Plant pixs in another, House architecture pix in another.......all also exist in the camera roll.
I have trawled the net for the last 8 hrs in vain!
I have ios5 on Ipad 3 and the latest Itunes on Windows PC.
As a precaution, I have used the windows "add pictures from...." to keep a copy in a separate folder in the windows desktop, but again it has all the pics mixed up together and not sorted as per the various albums in the ipad!
How to replicate the albums in the windows PC???

Sync the photos back to the iPad using iTunes. You have to place the photos into a folder from which you sync photos. All photos that you want to sync to the device must be included in the main photos folder and selected to sync each time that you sync.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
Click on the Sync Photos From heading in order to select it.
Select the photos folder that you want to sync from.
Select all of the albums or photos within the folder that you want to sync.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes

Windows 8.1 Tablet applicaiton (installation and license)

I have developed Windows 8.1 Tablet application. We don't want to upload this to Windows store (our client want it to be private only). We are facing 2 issues
1. It asks windows live ID to run the application which expires after 30 days. Client don't want frequently enter live ID and it should be installed and run without live ID.
2. We want to install the app to multiple users on the tablet. Once its installed it should be available to all users who are accessing that tab. currently it is installed per user.
what are the possible solutions to these 2 problems

The developer license you are using (and that expires after 30 days) is designed for development and test purposes. It is not appropriate for production use. For production you will want to set the devices up for proper side-loading.

If your Windows 8.1 Pro systems are on a domain then they don't need a separate key. You just need to enable them for side-loading. See

If they aren't on a domain then they'll need a side-loading key. If you're enrolled in a volume license program (see the Sideloading Enhancements link for which ones) you should be able to get side-loading keys from that. If not then you can buy an Enterprise

You should be able to provision the system to automatically enable the app for individuals as they log in, but I don't know the details.

Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Will adding a new OEM Windows 8 license to the system replace and free the current OEM license?

I have computer (computer A) with a Windows 8 Standard OEM license. I would like this computer to run Windows 8 Pro OEM, and move the Standard license to another computer (computer B).
Correct me if I'm wrong (and please confirm if I'm right), but as far as I've understood it the OEM licenses have changed from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and on Windows 8 they are no longer tied to the hardware. Therefore, I assume the license doesn't need the
manufacturer's special disc or recovery drive to install. (This is not really an issue, since I have the DVD anyway.) The Windows 8 license should thus be free to move around, as long as it's only installed on one computer at the time and is activated online.
There should therefor be unproblematic to move the Windows 8 Standard license from computer A to computer B, so that I can install Windows 8 Pro on computer A. If this is true, could I just buy a Pro license, go to Control Panel on computer A and add this license
with "Add features to Windows 8.1"? Will this Pro license then replace my Standard license, or will they co-exist somehow? Will the Standard license be free so that it can be moved to comptuer B after I have added a Pro license? I would rather avoid
formatting computer A, but I will format computer B.

I'm not aware that OEM-supplied/attached licenses are now able to be moved. Can you provide a reference for that theory?
OEM SB (System Builder) licenses, if you are building for yourself (i.e. not building to resell), *DO* allow transfer

a) if you build your own computer, and purchase an OEM SB for that computer, for your own personal use, that license can be transferred to another computer.
b) if you buy a computer which is already built and has Windows OEM attached, this Windows license cannot be transferred to another computer

Having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper

I've been having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper and similar "services." Tried to download "MPlayerX" a week ago and it all started then. I thought I deleted the file but I'm still having trouble. I've been digging for solutions on here, but nothing I've found on here has worked yet--the VSearch stuff (I think) isn't on my hard drive. Any advice?

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.

The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
          Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
          Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

I don't think so. Unless it's in the settings, there's not much that can be done.
are they using wifi on the train? If so, maybe switching to cellular. There are devices like the Mifi, which is a battery operated portable wifi hotspot that they can connect their device to.
If the wifi on the train is solid, I know I've had issues using certain hotspots. For example, my yahoo mail simply will not pull down via the mail app if I'm on some AT&T hot spots. But if I go in via safari then it works. So if the signal is good, maybe using a different way can help.
Or maybe looking for a mail interface that isn't apple's. There are others in the app store that may have better function or more control.
