Playing a Macromedia Flash movie in Java?
Is there a way to make an applet play a Flash movie (.swf) inside it?
I want a Java program to open a ServerSocket and play a Flash movie that will be something like a chat.
I know how to build a chat, you don't have to tell me about it...
I'm just asking, is there a way to have a Flash Movie inside the programs Frame ???
Thanks...
And I don't get how to control the flash file: Are methods like TPlay and SetVariable availble to Java?
It would be great if they are - using them through JavaScript is glitchy.

Best way to export flash movie for JAVA
Here is my dilema. I get all kinds of flash movies to post to our site. I had been asking for a final output of .swf, whenever possible. Occassionally I get some videos that have a player and I wind up with .swf and some related FLV files, which we always have problems with in our JAVA environment. We have issues locating the player files, sometimes they don't play for people with particular browsers etc.. The coders tell me that it is a problem with the "base" locations, and recommend that we get a single swf file and have the videos and players embedded into the .swf. They tell me that the browser sometimes cannot find the supporting files, and that it forces them to post the flash files on the root directory. Any ideas what might be happening here?
One other thing - I currently have an embedded swf file on one of our sites. It seems pretty heavy and skips - our Flash Developer did not include a loader. I sent it back to him to compress the file and include the swf. The developer is telling me that compressing the file won't do anything for me an that we should export it as an FLV file or have the FLV load into the swf. For one thing this is not a video - so I am not understanding why we would need an FLV. Am I misunderstanding something here.
Thanks! Thanks again Winston. (You helped me out in the past).
In my playing around, I was leaning toward AIC with a compressor pre-set of 1080i or p would give me decent results on export. I'm still a little confused over a number of the other options, and this seemed simplistic. (I'm still learning here as I go).
One question on that though if you would. Am I best off leaving the FPS settings to current? I am assuming I can experiment with that if I want to keep a computer copy, but for back to tape purposes, that seems to make sense to my simple mind.
On a side note, I was quite surprised at how good the default "large" export looks when viewed on the computer. I may keep that as my default for iTunes\Front Row.
Thanks again. -

Can I play a Macromedia Flash web-game off-line?
I frequently play PacMan at the following URL:
http://frombumps2babes.co.uk/forums/arcade.php?&act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=3
I was wondering if there is any way in which I can play when not online? I know the game files are downloaded and then I can play a whole game even if I switch off my network connections. But then, when the game ends (i.e. I've lost all my lives!) I can't start a new one unless I reload the page, which means I must be online again!
I know the file is already downloaded for the first game to start, so how could I use it for a new game?
Many thanks, as always.BTW, any ideas why I have lost audio on Flash sites. Here's what happened:
I went to
http://www.privatehand.com/flash/elements.html
which is an animation of the 'Song of the Elements' lyrics (Tom Lehrer, 1960s).
I saw the flash animation and listened to its own audio (the song itself).
I then entered "curl http://www.privatehand.com/flash/elements.html -o tomsmoviex.swf" in Terminal.app and downloaded the flash file to my Home folder for offline use. I played back the swf file in a Safari window with no problems.
After a while, I could still play back the swf file, without the audio, though. I sent it to my other powerbook, just to check, and sure enough, the audio was there.
So, I'm left wondering: what has suddenly caused my first powerbook to lose its audio when playing back swf files? I've tried Camino, as well, and also I setup a new user account and the problem persists.
Any ideas? Many thanks, people. -
Playing .flv in a movie opened through another movie
I recently constructed a site and made a .flv movie player
not a component. when I test the movie it works fine. When I open
the .html that plays the main flash movie and open the link for the
movie that has the player inside of it playing a .flv: the .flv
does not play can anyone help?Ok so it looks like you're referring to the method of placing a screenshot of the flv on the stage in front of the flv so that users don't notice that the flv loads more slowly than the other bitmaps on the stage, right?
yes
Looks like I'll have to do this (since embedding the flv in the main swf, which avoids the slow-to-show problem, is not recommended).
that's also correct (and it will make your entire swf load slower).
Thanks Kglad.
you're welcome. -
Flash programming using Java!
I found there are tools to compile .net applications to SWF movies that can be run by Flash.
Are there any similar tools for Java, which can compile Java programs into SWF files?
Looking for a way to write my Flash movies using Java...
Thanks :)see if this is useful
http://www.anotherbigidea.com/javaswf/
Thanks, but I wanted to find a way to use Java syntax instead of Actionscript syntax when programming SWF files...
Basically a compiler similar to javac, but which produces swf binaries instead of .class binaries. -
QuickTime requires Macromedia Flash version 5 or before?
Attempt at exporting a quicktime movie from a simple timeline animation in flash produces this result:
Flash 8
The installed version of QuickTime does not support this type of Macromedia Flash movie.
QuickTime requires Macromedia Flash version 5 or before.
Please select "Version: Flash Player 5" in the Flash tab of the Publish Settings dialog.
Anyone see anything odd about this screen cap? (Same thing if I specifically select version 5):
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/2273/qtisrubbishym2.png
Is QT Pro, really professional? Are there any professionals developing the software? Why can't this simple operation be performed?
Thanks.I'd be willing to bet they just copy that same information every time they update the version number. So, no, the only downgrade that will help is QuickTime.
Just checked their other pages...
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/download/apple-quicktime-73.aspx
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/download/apple-quicktime-731.aspx
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/download/apple-quicktime-74.aspx
And they do all have the same info. They just need to be alerted that they've got bad info on their site

Macromedia (flash 8) Shockwave movie won't play
Hi-
I bought Macromedia Flash because I took course in Flash about 8 years ago. So,when I was asked by my company's CEO to take a presentation and turn it into a "flash movie" I said, "sure I can do that". Well, I did do it, and it plays fine on the workstation that I created it on with "Macromedia Flash Player 8. However, no one else can get it to play except by opening it with a browser, which is not really ideal for our proposed usage. Is there some sort of desktop player still available that would allow someone (like a sales guy) to just double click on an icon and play this movie? Or is there some sort of way that i can update the movie so there is a desktop player to launch it? I am semi desperate.
Thanks in advanceIt has been a long time since I had Flash 8, so some of the terms may have changed. You can go to the file menu and select Publish settings.
From there you can select what types of files are created when you publish your file. If you aren't going to use the swf you can turn that off and if you select one of the Projectors (I'm guessing you are on a PC) you can select that.
A projector is a bundle of the Flash player and the content you create. It doesn't bundle other outside assets so if you have external audio or video files they can still be played by the projector, but you will need to keep those files in the same folder structure relative to the projector.
You also won't be able to access the internet from within the projector. So if you have links to your company site they won't go through. -

Safari not playing local flash movie
Hello All,
Below is a piece of html code I am using to view an embeded flash movie. As you can see the file is located on my hard drive - this (the .swf file on the hard drive) is being used to simulate content that will eventually be placed on a CD. Also the code is an html page that is part of a Java program that uses "continue"servlets to advance to other pages.
I know the Flash plugin (8) works because I can view flash files from other sites and I can also view my file by navigating to it through Safari using file open.
The Problem is when I try get the flash movie to play by advancing from one web page to the one below that has the file embeded - Nothing happens.
Any Help is very appreciated. Thank you

Strange things tend to happen in Cyber world. I've seen, albeit infrequently, where my Safari Preferences were reset to default values while surfing. Haven't figured out why that happens, but I have my suspicions. Yet, because it's a rare event, it's not in the top 5 of things to do.

Flash movies with play button don't work
I have the 'simple' problem that everytime I see a "play" button on a web page with flash content, clicking on it won't start the movie. However, e.g. YouTube movies work fine. So it seems it's just movies that do not start automatically after clicking on a link.
Also, checking the flash player e.g. at the Adobe site (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html), tells me in a flash box I have the latest flash player installed, and I see the flash movie 'flash player is running on your system' with the red ball rolling in it.
I have the same problem for both google Chrome and for IE.
I still have an old Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook with Win XP (latest updates) and ATI mobility Radeon X300 graphics chip, for which I also installed the latest available drivers.
Experimenting with Flash Player settings was unsuccessful so far (e.g. no hardware acceleration, clearing all internet data in the Flash Player global settings tool).
My desktop (also with Win XP and with the same browsers and Flash Players/Flash Plugins installed works fine...).
I also know that it worked at an earlier time with this NB...
I managed to run the movie with a Linux Live CD but that is not what I want to do every time...
Any idea is highly appreciated.....Hi BalusC, i have saved the datamodel (a ArrayList) in SessionBean. It can't be null. The rows of table display correct. I don't understand, why functions buttons with ObjectArrayDataProvider, but not with ObjectListDataProvider?
I found a page with same problem: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=549675&tstart=30 -

I cant seem to get a flash movie to play. It was originally a
MPG that I
first tried convertinng to a flash movie via the Flash Video

does not seem to want to play.
Then I imported the MPG file into flash, converted it to a

play it in DW,
but not on the web.
I know there is something there..
Anyone have a suggestion??

Hi, using Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, I would like to have a link or a button on a webpage that when clicked will play a Flash Movie in a new window.
Using the 'Insert Panel' > Media: FLV I managed to insert the .flv file on the page, but the movie plays 'in line' instead of in a new window. So far I can't find any 'Properties' or settings to change this behaviour. E.g. like Target _blank for opening e.g. a .pdf in a new Window.
> Please help.
Thank you!Try using one of the popular javascript methods for this. I use shadowbox and you can find examples, info and a download here: http://www.shadowbox-js.com

Problem: Flash movie plays on desktop, but not on website
Hi, I'm new to Flash but have successfully created a Flash Movie that works using Firefox and Safari on my (iMac) desktop, but not after I upload to my website.
I started with an flv video, imported it into an fla document along with a playback skin then published it creating an html file and two swf files. I've checked the html file, and it looks fine. The flv file is only 17MB and I've uploaded all 5 files to my site on:
http://www.cantata.co.uk/temp2/minorswing.html
but all I seem to get is the control skin's "sending data" pole turning. The movie never arrives. I can get much bigger mpeg and wmv movies up on my screen very quickly.
Can anyone suggest what the problem may be? I'm running Snow Leopard on my Mac (OX 10.6.6). I've tried using different videos but nothing seems to work.
Here's the relevant html generated by Flash

Many thanks if you can help
SteveThanks - I don't know what as2 is. I'm using Flash CS5. When I import the flv movie file, I'm asked to choose a skin and then a window comes up to tell me that the address of the flv file with respect to the other files will be minorswing.flv by which I take it to mean that all the files need to be in the same level of folder (directory). All five are in the same folder on my Mac and in the same folder on my website. I can't see how I can influence the program in choosing a different structure or outputting different html in the Publish Settings or elsewhere.
I would have expected the relative structure of the files to be maintained between my desktop, where I can play the movie in my browsers, and the website, where I can't. I was surprised there was no "src" param name in the html, and I did try inserting one, but it made no difference, so I assumed the default for the html is to be in the same folder as the html and that the minorswing.swf file would contain information on the whereabouts of the flv file and the skin swf file.
Is there a way of reading or editing the swf files to include an absolute url?
