Playlist as text

Just wanted to double check:  (because I have trouble believing)     There is no way to display an Ipad playlist as text?

Hi there,
I'm confused. You want to export each Playlist as a text file? Or you want to export each individual album in your iTunes library as a separate text file?
For the former - converting a Playlist into a text file - you could do the following. If there is a faster more streamlined way, I don't know it.
1. While viewing your playlist in iTunes, make sure only the columns you want in your text file are showing. (Remove columns by right-clicking on the header bar.)
2. Select all songs (Command-A) then right-click and select "Copy."
3. Open Notepad or, even better, Excel or some other spreadsheet software and Paste. The information is tab-delimited, so if you put it into a spreadsheet it automatically puts each item of information in its own column.
You could also just select all the songs in your library, sorted by album, then Copy and Paste into a spreadsheet. Then you could sort the spreadsheet according to album name or whatever and get rid of columns (song name, genre, etc) as you see fit. And, although I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, I'm sure there's some third-party software that will convert your playlists to text or spreadsheets or whatever. Hope this helps...

  • Export iTunes playlist as text

I see that there's a function to export a playlist as text, but when I do that, I get all kinds of other irrelevant info.  I have iTunes configured so that the play lists only display the Title and play time of the track.  I want my export to only show THAT . . .   is there anyway to make that happen?

    Neil Kaplan1 wrote:
copying and pasting from the play list and creating a text list that way  USED to work… apparently in this new version of iTunes, it no longer functions that way. It pasted the actual mp3 files into the text editor!
Hi Neil,  Actually it has worked that way as long as I can remember.  When you copy from the iTunes window and paste into a text editor, it defaults to pasting as files.  But you can easily override it by using Paste Special > As Text to get the behavior that you want.
Anyway, I found out how to do it , got help from Apple. There's an option to print the play list, so I printed it to a PDF and got what I needed.   Thank you for your replies!

  • Playlist- editing text (eg artist names , song titles)

if the artist names or track titles don't appear when importing to playlist is there a way i can copy /paste to multiple cells in 1 action without having to copy/paste each individual cell - ie. copy/paste the word 'robbie williams' 15 times ( if 15 tracks on one album ). The usual windows copy/paste functionby highlighting several cells doesn't seem possible
    ipod nano   Windows XP

If you want to add information to multiple items, click on the first track in your list, hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes and then the Info tab. You can edit the name, album, year, composer, add artwork etc and it will update all the tracks in the list.

  • Importing playlists that were exported from iTunes as text

I need to re-import playlists that I exported from iTunes. When exporting them I didn't notice the format selector, which defaults to .txt format. iTunes requires .m3u or XML for playlist import. How can the information in these files be imported (including getting it into a compatible format)?

That is indeed the procedure for importing playlists. Been using it a lot, trying to get these playlists to re-import.
iTunes requires .m3u or XML for playlist import. iTunes doesn't import playlists in text (.txt) format, even though that's the default format when you export them.
If I'd run an import immediately after exporting a playlist I'd have caught this. But who would expect that iTunes might not accept its own default playlist export format for playlist import?
The problem: how to extract and use the information in the text files iTunes exported.

  • Convert mp4 to mp3 and replace to keep playlists

    Hi,
Problem is I want to convert my downloaded m4p files to mp3 wile still keeping my playlists. Most of the solutions duplicate the files and if you have used any of the m4p's in a playlist the new converted mp3's don't reference the m4p's so if you delete the old m4p files it brakes all your playlists.
Is there any way to convert and replace m4p's with mp3's to keep all the playlists intact in iTunes?
Probably not but worth a ask.
    Thanks,

Created my own solution, round the houses but works.
1.Convert you M4P's in itunes with Advanced->Convert to
    2.Then eport you playlists
3.Open in each playlist in text edit and do a find and replace on .m4p to .mp3
    4. Then reimport you play lists.
    5. Then you can if you like delete the old m4p's
Not ideal but does the trick.

  • Playlist printing broke again

In 11.0.2 playlist printing is broke AGAIN.  It was broke in 11.0.0, then was fixed in 11.0.1, and now it is back to broke.  Any playlists scrunch text and lines overwrite.  I wish I hadn't trusted this update.  Searched for information on this problem, and I believe it is universal (at least for the Windows version of iTunes).  How long to iTunes 11.0.3????

  • How do I restore playlist(not smart playlist)

I accidentally deleted 2 of my Playlist, and how can I find them back?

Hopefully those playlists existed before the last time you upgraed iTunes. If so you could use this sort of approach
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
    OR
Export the two playlists as text files, then restore the more recent library database and reimport the playlists you just exported.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Or select the playlist and make sure the columns with the info you want are displayed (iTunes menu View > View options.
Select all the songs then Copy > Paste into a spreadsheet or text documnet.

  • Recreate or Rebuild a new iTunes database

I have found several people need help recreating or rebuilding their databases. This is NOT the same thing as recreating a music library, this is a deeper issue.
I discovered that by tricking iTunes into thinking you are starting it for the first time you can command it to go and search for all of the mp3's and .m4a's on your computer.
To do this you need to reset your iTunes preferences.
Here are the steps I follow when myself or a friend needs this kind of help.
This process will probably erase your playlists. You may want to export your playlists as text files before doing this process. (I never back mine up.)
    Before starting, Quit iTunes.
    1. Go to your iTunes folder, usually in OSX this is located at "Users/username/Music".
    2.Open your iTunes folder.
3.Drag your "iTunes Music Library.xml" to the Desktop or a safe storage place in case you need to restore.
4.Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Desktop "iTunes Library" or in older versions "iTunes Music Library"
    5. Pull your iTunes preferences out by goin to "Users/Library/Preferences" and locating two iTunes files:
    com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    com.apple.iTunes.plist
    6. Take these two files out onto your Desktop.
    7. When these four files are out, relaunch iTunes. It should take you thru the same dialogue as when iTunes was launched for the first time. When it comes to a question about, do you want iTunes to find existing music on your computer, click yes.
    8. iTunes will now do the legwork and rebuild your database. This may take awhile. It may also take awhile for your Album artwork to reload as long as your Album Artwork folder is in "Users/Music/iTunes" as well.
After this step you should be good to go.
PLEASE NOTE, this process will only search for .mp3, .m4a, and m4p files. If you have any truly uncompressed audio you will have to drag those .aif and .wav files in following your rebuild.
By the way, to learn how to export your playlists as text files, this might help.

    Good luck!

or ... shudder ... reload everything onto the iPod?
    Why is that a " shudder "?
Restore the iPod an let it resync. Nothing you need to do except go make a sandwich while it reloads.

  • Re-Importing DNGs which were exported from CR2s

Going forward, I'm sure this issue could be solved by a workflow change, but for now, I have a small problem:
I shoot a ton of images (20,000+ per year) and process in Lightroom. I have a workflow where I export my .CR2 originals as DNG for archiving to an external drive, to free up space on my local drive. Once they're copied over, I delete the folders from my Mac's hard drive via the Finder, which leaves the previews still searchable within Lightroom. This is great for searching and referencing archived stuff that I don't necessarily need to re-edit.
However, when I do need to re-edit something, once I copy the folder from the exernal drive back to its original location on my local HD for editing in LR, Lightroom doesn't recognize the files automatically since they now have a different file extension. I must click each thumbnail's question mark and point it to the file in question. Lightroom will not apply this same action to nearby photos.
Any thoughts on how to speed this up rather than addressing each image, one-by-one?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

  • Importing Filemaker xml

I have exported Itunes playlists as text files and imported them into Filemaker Pro, now I want to export an XML file that Itunes will import as a playlist. Can anybody help?

iTunes is pretty particular about the XML it imports.
A better idea would be to convert your XML into M3U,
    then import that.
An M3U file is just a test file with each line having
    the path of one song.
I cannot export that format from Filemaker, I am using Filemaker for sorts, merging and creating new playlist. I also wish to retain my rating settings.

    Hello there,
You're in the forum for Acrobat.com. We can't help with questions about other products; I'm not sure what you're using for your project, but it's not likely you'll find the help you're looking for in this particular forum. Sorry!

  • Every time I open my iTunes - my library is gone. Why does this keep happening?

    Hey guys,
The folder with all my music in it is located on my desktop. I've had it like this for years now with never a problem.
Up until the most recent update, my library is gone everytime I open my iTunes.
Thankfully I saved my playlists to text documents, but it is becoming an enormous bother now to keep re-adding them.
I've searched the forums to no avail - anyone have any advice for me?
    Much Appreciated,
    Andrew

Just want to share my fix for this...... Don't know that computer you are dealing with but if sony, here it is
WOW! Thanks to all who directed me to Sony for this issue. I have downloaded the update http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2715 (which by the way would not run for the first few times stating it was an update for Vista even though I chose the Windows 7 OS and the page showed was for 7.) I have rebooted about 4 times so far and everything is still in iTunes. Oh thank you all.... BTW I had my computer in with the Sony Backstage guys for a tune up a few months ago and I explained this issue to them. They had no idea and recommended I go over to the Apple store in the Mall. I would think they should be versed on various software related issues which can create trouble for users of their products just as they are versed in the nuts and bolts of how to save this, and move that, and make backup disks, and read my email. : ) Keeping my fingers crossed.
All this technology conflict.... Can't we all just get along???
