Playlists not dynamically updating.

I have a playlist on my iphone's music library set up to dynamically update to include the 30 most recently played songs.
However the playlist does not update until I sync the iPhone with a computer.
What's the deal?

No one?
Seriously?

  • Please help! Ipod not dynamically updating smart playlists!

I have quite a complex system of smart playlists on my 4G color ipod but I can't get any of them to update dynamically away from the computer. I have a total of 6 and here are their preferences:
    SPL 1:
    match ALL
    1) My rating is in the range 4-5 stars
    2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
    3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
    4) Playcount is less than 5
limit to 100 by most recently added
    SPL 2:
    match ALL
    1) My rating is in the range 0-3 stars
    2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
    3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
    4) Playcount is less than 4
limit to 55 songs by most recently added
    SPL 3:
    match ALL
    1) My rating is in the range 3-5 stars
    2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
    3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
    4) Playcount is greater than 5
limit to 30 songs by random
    SPL 4:
    match ALL
    1) Last played is not in the last 1 day
    2, 3, 4) Playlist is not SPL 1, SPL 2, or SPL 3
limit to 15 songs by random
    Unwanted:
    match ANY
    1) Time is greater than 15 minutes
    2) Genre is Comedy
The active playlist that I use to listen to:
    match ANY
    1-4) Playlist is SPL 1, SPL 2, SPL 3, or SPL 4
    5) Playlist is not Unwanted
So here's the problem. When I sync with my computer, the playlists work great, everything updates as expected and I get a pretty diverse playlist every time I sync which I want. The problem is that while I'm listening to my music on the ipod away from the computer, my playlists don't dynamically update. After I listen to a song, the song's supposed to remove itself from the playlist which doesn't happen, as well as when I skip songs. Even when I rate songs that aren't rated they don't appear in any playlist. This is really frustrating and I can't find a solution anywhere and yes, I do have Live Updating selected. I also have "Match only checked items" selected on all playlists as well. If anyone has any ideas for how to fix this, I would love to know. Thanks!

I was searching this forum and found someone who says that 4th gen ipods have problems live updating smart playlists if the criteria "last skipped" is on the playlist. I took this off of all of my playlists but they still don't work. Then I tried making a playlist that is just "rating is equal to 5 stars" and it WORKS!!! But that doesn't help me out much for my other playlists so maybe it's some other criteria that's causing the problem. Any ideas?

  • Live updating smart playlists not actually updating

Apparently, this was a common complaint back in 2007. Well, I am still having this problem.
    iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.3
I have a static playlist filled with music called "MUSIC". I have a smart playlist "DYNAMIC" that references "MUSIC", which filters only songs rated 3-5, and not played in the past week. These playlists are just used as a source.
I then have a smart playlist for each genre (e.g. "RAP", "ROCK"), which reference "DYNAMIC", and simply filter the appropriate genre.
All of these smart playlists have "live updating" enabled. They all work as expected in iTunes. They all work as expected on an 5.5G iPod.
However, on the iPhone, when I completely play a song in "RAP", the song is not immediately removed. I expected this, since this is the same behavior on my 5.5G iPod. However, on the iPod, I would simply exit the playlist, then re-enter, and the playlist would be regenerated, removing the played song. This does not work on the iPhone. No matter what I do, the played song is still shown, despite the fact that the DYNAMIC smart playlist should remove the song.
I also tested by playing the song directly from DYNAMIC, and it still does not update. I created a new, basic smart playlist which does nothing but reference the static playlist "MUSIC" and filter out songs played in the past day. It still does not update.
I will note that none of my smart playlists reference a playlist that is not synced on the iPhone. I know that a smart playlist referencing a non-synced playlist can turn the smart playlists static. I doubled checked that this is not the case here.
I will also note that I verified the songs are being marked as played via iTunes.
    Hjalp!

  • Active Directory client not dynamically updating DNS

    Hi,
There has been some other issues mentioned on other threads regarding the Active Directory Plugin within Lion, it does appear to be flaky.
I just wanted to make sure that the issue I'm having is not down to a mis-config by myself.
We have several Macs running 10.7.1 and are bound into Active directory (Windows 2008 r2) however, it appears that the DNS records for these machines are not being dynamically created within AD. (All Zones are AD intergrated) All 10.6.x clients seem to work fine and records are created and updated dynamically as IPs change etc.
Is anybody else having this issue? If not, any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi!
I'm having exactly the same problem and nobody seems to have an answer.
Regarding the reply you got, this has nothing to do with Lion Server. We're talking about Lion clients bound to an AD (Windows Server 2008 R2, in my case) not dynamically registering their DNS entries.
I also noticed that the DHCP entries for those clients are missing the "Name" property, which is already symptomatic of something going wrong.
    Anyone?

  • Smart playlists not live updating on ipod touch (2nd gen)

    Scenario:
I have a smartplaylist with live updating ticked in itunes. this playlists looks for tracks with a star rating between 4 and 5 stars and places them in the playlist. in itunes when i listen to new music with no rating and i give it a rating that meets this rule it works and places that said track in the playlist.
I then sync my ipod and the updated playlist with the new tracks that i have just rated goes on there. all good so far.
But when i rate a track on my ipod when i am away from my computer and i give it 4 or 5 stars it does not "live update" and place it on the said playlist. I have to wait untill i get home and synce with my itunes library for the newly rated tracks to go on my desired playlist.
isnt that the point of "live updating" playlists?
I should be able to rate a track and for it to go onto this playlist whilst i am "on the go"
This way of working always worked on my other ipods. just not with my touch.
any help or advice? is this a known software bug to do with the touch?
Thanks for reading, Comments and suggestions welcome.

Yes, I've had this problem several times. There seem to be certain criteria you can't use in a playlist and expect it to work on you iPod. I don't know if this will solve your problem but here's what I've figured out:
I have a 5G ipod classic. Any playlists that I've created using the criteria 'podcast is true/false' won't live update on the iPod. I've solved this by changing the criteria to 'genre contains podcast' and that works just fine.
The playlists that I've created using the 'playlist is' AND selecting one of (oh how to put this) iTunes library playlists that appear at the top of itunes (in my case "Music" and "TV Shows") (the ones with the icons), also do not live update on the ipod. For whatever reason, these default playlists seem to break live updating on the iPod, but not in iTunes. I got around it by using a whole list of genres to include/exclude to create my music playlist (there's probably a better way to do it). For my playlists that contain TV shows, I set all the TV shows I've ripped from my DVD's to have a genre of 'music and television' and use that to create a playlist. That also works.
You stated that you use the rating criteria to create your playlist, but might you also be using the default lists at the top too? of course, i'm not using an ipod touch so maybe this isn't helpful. I hope it is, because i know how crazy this was making me... good luck...

  • DNS entry for DC not dynamically updating (Server 2008 R2)

Windows Server 2008 R2. I've got a single DC (I'm preparing to install the 2nd in the next few days). The host (A) record for the DC shows to be static for some reason. I changed the name of the DC recently, then brought down the Exchange server and rebooted
and it successfully connected again. I might have entered in a static DNS entry for the new server name before renaming the server, but I'm not sure.
I've tried to delete the static DNS record for the DC and then reload, but it continues to appear as a static entry. The mail server's DNS record still appears as a dynamic entry.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hello,
Like Mike suggested, it is normal that it is a static record.
However, if your DC with its new name is not updating its DNS record, check that "Register this connection' addresses in DNS" is checked on the DC's adapter and then run
ipconfig /registerdns using an elevated prompt.

  • Smart playlists not live-updating on iPod

I use smart playlists for listening to my UNPLAYED podcasts and video podcasts. When an episode is played through completion, it should be removed from the playlist. This doesn't work live while listening to the ipod. The smart playlist only seems to update after syncing with the computer. This live-updating smart playlist feature worked fine on my second-gen nano.

As I know for current moment few parameters do not work for live updateble smart playlist. Try to remove Podcast and Video Kind from your playlist(s).
It's possible replace Podcast parametr for "Genre is Podcast"(or set your podcasts genre), and Video Kind for Kind is contains video.
Please, tell me about your progress.

  • Data not dynamically updating in photo gallery

    The page in question is
    this
    photo gallery.
The primary issue is when one thumbs through the images, the
"photoID" does not update. It remains at the first "photoID" that
is encountered, and in this case, it is 729. The "title",
"description" and so forth remain locked to the first entry as
well, yet the photograph updates "@path".
I've been working at this for almost two days and have tried
almost every possible combination. I've copied over the older
framework files from my other site (which has this working
successfully), modified it to work in this instance, and it fails

  • Performance Management (OSA)- New supervisor not dynamically updated

PMP Appraisal template is not updating the Appraiser (Supervisor) field when an employee has an organizational movement change (e.g. Promotion/Demotion). The template keeps the same supervisor as when the template was created. New Supervisor will not show as the Appraiser. Is the only option to use the Administrator function through PHAP_ADMIN to manually change?
Thoughts appreciated on a custom solution.

    Hi,
Yes. The appraisal document will not be changed automatically for changes in org structure. If the employee's manager/supervisor chnages, then the appraisal document has to be manually changed through PHAP_ADMIN.
In my prior projects, what we did is, we proposed a solution where a report will run in background and it will check the employee's current appraiser against the current supervisor. If they are not identical, then the new supervisor will be the appraiser. This report will then be scheduled as a job daily.
For this you must approach an ABAPer. Use HRHAP_DOCUMENT_MODIFY to change the appraisal document(appraiser).
    Hope this helps you.

    Subbu

  • Smart Playlists no longer updated with iOS 4.3 on iPhone 4

I've run into an issue with the latest iOS 4.3 update: my smart playlists are no longer dynamically being updated on my iPhone 4.
All of my main playlists are smart: they exclude songs that I've played in the past week. Earlier today when I'd play a song and it went to the next one, it'd immediately remove the song from the playlist (so I was always on track 1 of XXX). With 4.3, this is no longer happening and the smart playlist only dynamically updates when I sync my phone with my computer. This is annoying because it means that I can end up hearing the same song again if I switch playlists.
Anyone else run into this? Any fixes? I tried rebooting my phone to no avail.

    My results differ from yours.
With iOS 4.0x, 4.1 and 4.2x my smart playlists with live updating were broken. It would start with track 1 of 5, then 2 of 4, then 3 of 3, 4 of 2, then would generally crash the iPod app. If I left the playlist and re-entered it would have removed the entries already played, but I would find that some of the entries that should have played had actually been skipped in m playlist.
With iOS 4.3, my playlists are properly working for me again. Now they play 1 of 5, 2 of 5, 3 of 5, ... If I return to the playlist while it is playing, I see that the entries that have already played are removed, and if I leave the playlist to return later, it starts over a 1 of 2, 2 of 2...
I have posted another thread of how I have my playlists defined, so perhaps that would help you. I do recall that there were some conditions that used to cause problems if used in a smart playlist.

  • Smart playlists no longer update dynamically

I have several smart playlists that have a couple of rules... one based on rating and one based on whether or not it is present in a regular playlist.  When I change the rating of a song so that it no longer meets the smart playlist's criteria, it remains in the list.  It will not update until I sync with the PC.  The other criteria, the "regular" playlist, isn't updated... and is present on the iPod as well in my iTunes library, so that's not the issue.  I'm running the latest greatest version of iTunes and the iPod touch is a model PD721LL/A, version 8.2; it has over 15GB free, so space isn't a challenge either.
I suspect that there is some sequence of settings that will allow this to update dynamically, but I'm not sure what that would be or where to even attempt it.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Laura Tieri

  • Smart playlists not updating live after 3.1.1 upgrade

Same discussion started back in February about the 3.0 update (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9937797)
I thought for sure live updating would work properly with such an update from 3.0 -> 3.1.1, but no luck! I guess it takes more than 7 months to fix this.
As a refresher -- if you have a smart playlist that includes a "not played in the last xx days" condition, the old OS (2.2.1) would automatically remove a played song from the smart playlist on the iPod so your playlist is always valid. However, in 3.0 and 3.1.1, the iPod does not automatically recalculate the smart playlist and you have to sync with iTunes to get the song to be removed.

I have discovered a workaround for this issue. As with most workarounds, it's not too pretty, but it gets you there.
Knowing that live updating smart playlists that refer to other playlists won't properly update on the iPod, and taking advantage of the fact that iTunes 9 now allows for nested logic in smart playlists, we can make a complex nested logic smart playlist that live updates on the iPod as long as it doesn't refer to another playlist. In place of referring to another playlist, refer to some metadata instead. The cleanest metadata tag in my opinion is "Category." It is metadata that does not by default display in playlist view (you can enable it under the View menu), and is not visible when selecting Get Info on a track. You can use the excellent "Enter Category Text for Selected v1.1" script to enter Category tags, available at http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=entercategorytext . Just enter the name of the playlist the track is contained in for the Category tag.
I'll give an example of how this works. Let's say you have a long playlist named "day" containing certain tracks you like to listen to when the sun is out. You want to create an intelligent and self-updating megamix playlist of tracks only from the "day" playlist that will play songs you haven't heard, as well as songs you've heard and have rated. As an added smartness, you want to hear the tracks you've rated higher more often than the tracks with a lower rating. You want this new "day mix" playlist to live update properly on your iPod touch.
First you'll need to tag all your "day" playlist songs. Download and install the "Enter Category Text for Selected v1.1" script mentioned above. Select all the songs in the "day" playlist, run the script, and enter "day" for the Category.
Now you can make the smart playlist. In iTunes 9, create a new Smart Playlist. Using the new nested logic in iTunes 9 smart playlists, select the following conditions:
) Match any of the following rules:
) all of the following rules:
    ) Category contains day
    ) Playcount is 0
) all of the following rules:
    ) Category contains day
    ) Rating is *
) Last Played is not in the last 6 months
) all of the following rules:
    ) Category contains day
    ) Rating is **
) Last Played is not in the last 5 months
) all of the following rules:
    ) Category contains day
    ) Rating is *
) Last Played is not in the last 4 months
) all of the following rules:
    ) Category contains day
    ) Rating is **
) Last Played is not in the last 3 months
) all of the following rules:
    ) Category contains day
    ) Rating is ***
) Last Played is not in the last 2 months
    ) Live updating
You should find that the new "day mix" smart playlist properly live updates on your iPod touch.
As with any workaround, there are troubling aspects. One is that you'll need to constantly update your metadata tag of choice (Category, in my example) each time you add new tracks to a source regular playlist on your iPod. I'm also unsure about overloading the metadata with a number of tags in the case where tracks co-exist on multiple playlists. Also be aware that smart playlists like this tend to hang the iPod for several minutes with the "Updating Library" screen, so be prepared to be patient.
I hope this is of use to someone. Please post any streamlining suggestions for this workaround.

  • Smart playlists not updating on touch

Since i upgraded from an ipod video to touch, my smartplaylists with "last played is not in the last X days" criteria are not live-updating on the ipod. I read on several posts that this is a known bug and apple chooses not to fix it. How is this possible? This functionality is at the core of the product in my opinion. How can a newer product be worse? Why did i buy it?
I also heard that you have to report these bugs in order for them to get attention. I looked for hours on the apple site to find where i could send this feedback and i still haven't found anything.
Its so incredibly frustrating and unacceptable. They're busy releasing all kinds of new things wihtout making sure the old things which gave the prodcut value still work.
Now i am forced to keep listenting to the same songs over and over in my playlists because they don't get removed automatically. Not cool

I have a smart playlist of podcasts syced to my iPod Touch that has worked with iOS 3 and works with iOS 4, using the settings described here: http://bit.ly/c9GoOF . The key is to check "Live updating". Once the podcast finishes playing it drops off the playlist as expected.
I had the "bright" idea of also including a playlist identical to the first but with "Live updating" not checked (see http://bit.ly/922a2L ). I did this so that I had a playlist containing the already-played podcasts in case I wanted to go back to listen to them again.
The trouble is that this playlist doesn;t sync properly with iTunes. The only fix I found was to sync twice: Sync once, right-click, edit the Smart playlist, make no changes and press OK, and sync a second time.
    Has anybody seen this behavior?

  • Smart playlists not updating on iPod Touch

Smart playlists based on "Play Count" or "Last Played" don't seem to work on my iPod Touch. I've got a smart playlist setup to list the tracks of an audiobook that have a play count of 0. On my iPod Classic, I could listen to this playlist and when a track finished, it would be removed from the playlist, making it easy to get back to where I was on the audiobook. On my iPod Touch, the smart playlist doesn't update until I sync with iTunes.
    Anybody else having this problem?

  • DNS replicating but not being dynamically updated by other DCs

    Background on setup:
Our campus runs BIND for the DNS solution
Campus servers do not allow for dynamic updates of the root zone (school.university.edu), but are set to allow dynamic updates of the AD-related zones (_msdcs, _sites, _tcp, _udp, DomainDnsZones, ForestDnsZones)
We run Active Directory (2008R2/2012R2 Mixed Mode) with DNS
Our DCs are all listed in the NS tab of our zones, but are not truly authoritative...campus BIND servers are
We only have the default zones setup in our DNS, all allow for Dynamic updates (Secure Only)
DNS zones are ADI and replicate to all DNS servers in the domain (All 6 DCs are DNS servers)
Clients do not register with our DNS, they use the campus BIND servers.  Only AD domain controllers are registered in our zones and allowed to dynamically update
Once upon a time, this setup worked without an issue.  Dynamic updates worked without an issue within our ADI zones, as well in the campus BIND servers.  When we started to add the new 2012R2 domain controllers into the mix, we noticed that this
was no longer the case.  Since we don't often add or remove DCs from our setup, we do not know exactly when this broke.
The issue is that our campus BIND DNS servers show all of the appropriate DNS records flawlessly.  We manually requested entries at the root (looks fine) and all AD zones updated dynamically with all expected records.  Our AD DNS servers on the
other hand have a fair number of incorrect and missing records.  The only one of the three new servers to have records in our AD DNS is the server we moved all of our FSMO roles to before our technician noticed the DNS issues.  The other two have
no records dynamically generated in our AD DNS zones.  We pulled one of the old 2008R2 DCs out of the domain using dcpromo since it had some other issues.  As expected, it pulled all of its records out of campus BIND cleanly but left all of its records
    in our AD DNS.
If we manually add/remove an entry (PTR, CNAME, A, SRV), the change replicates appropriately across the domain.  However, we do not want to put a Band-Aid fix on this and manually enter all of the records.  We want to figure out why these two servers
are not pushing their records into AD DNS despite updating them flawlessly in campus BIND servers.
DNS is not my forte, so I'd welcome any advice on what I can as my best next steps.  I have played around a lot with modifying DNS servers listed in the DC network settings, and register this connection.  We can confirm that replication seems to
be working fine.  We can manually add records.  DNS shows no errors in event log.  When using dcdiag dns test, it shows that we have missing records in our DNS but no other issues are displayed.  NSLOOKUP reveals campus DNS to be correct.
Any assistance would be appreciated...even if just to point me to a better tool for diagnostics.  We have not yet tried reinstalling DNS on any of the DCs and wish to avoid that if possible.

    Greg:
Thank you for taking the time to respond.  I believe I have found a pseudo-solution earlier this week, but I find myself slightly confused by the solution.  On our network connections for the DCs, we had been making the BIND servers the primary
and secondary DNS servers, then each of our DCs point to two of the other DCs for their tertiary and quaternary DNS servers.  Since the BIND servers have all of the correct records, we flipped those to make the DCs our primary and secondary before BIND
servers.  This got all of the records into our AD correctly.
It was my understanding that if you checked the "Register this connection in DNS" checkbox that it would register itself in all of the DNS servers in the list, but based off the above it seems it only registers in the first DNS server it successfully connects
to; assuming it expects that primary server to replicate the records to others.  If this new assumption is true, then I am trying to figure out how I am supposed to get my DCs to dynamically update both AD-DNS and BIND when I make changes.  This
may be best suited in another thread, so I'll gladly break it out into another if needed.  I do not have control over the BIND DNS servers, except for the fact that my DCs are allowed to dynamically update the AD subzones.  I have full control over
my AD-DNS, but my clients computers are required to point to BIND for their DNS.
