Please an easy backup for users.

I am really upset and disaponted wit IPOD/Itunes.
Every time I have a problem or an update I lose all my applications, music ratings and customizations.
I don't believe that Apple is not caplable to give us a simpler backup system.
In the last upgrade of my Ipod I lost nice free applications that are now only for sale. Is taht a way to force us to by certain apps?
But the worst is to lose all the rating musics and some nice playlists.
So please APPLE, give us some nice backup tool.

I've found a solution - download "sharepod" from www.download.com.
it's free (all the others are not) and it does the job - let's you copy from your ipod to your computer.
it may come up with an error message saying your ipod is not fully supported if it's a newer version, but should still let you copy.

Seeing wrong backups for user on restore.

When I go to restore a backup for a specific account, the available accounts listed don't seem to have any correlation with the Time Capsule user credentials. And for 1 account, the person's backup isn't available with their user credentials. I was expecting for any given Time Capsule user, that they'd only be able to see and restore their own backups. Is there something I'm missing, or is there something that's common to misconfigure to have the problem? Thanks for the help.

According to Apple's "Restoring files from a Time Capsule backup":
To restore from a System Migration (user account)
(These steps are for a Mac that is already configured and part of your network.)
Open the Migration Assistant (located in /Applications/Utilities).
Click Continue.
Enter an administrator name and password.
Select "From a Time Machine backup or other disk."
Highlight Time Capsule in the list named "Select the System to Transfer."
Enter the user name and password of the backed-up account from which you want to transfer data.
The account volumes will then be added to the "Select the System to Transfer" list.
Select the volume you want to transfer.
Click Continue to proceed.
After Time Machine scans the volume, select the user account from which you want to transfer.
Choose the Applications, files, and folders you would like to transfer.
Click Continue to proceed.
Choose the Network Settings, Time Zone, and Sharing Settings to transfer.
Click Transfer to proceed.

ITunes could not back up the iPhone "Name" because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone. Please delete the backup for this iPhone, then try again.

The above message is what I get when i try to back up my iPhone 4s to my PC. I tried deleting the backup through Edit > Preferences and so on, but I still get the same message! How can I get rid of this message and backup my iPhone? It worked fine two days ago. Any help would be much appreciated.

Time Capsule backup for multiple users

I have my iMac setup so that each member of my family has their own account. I am the administrator. When I run a time capsule backup is it backing up their files as well or do I need to create a backup for their accounts.
If I create individual backups for their accounts will it backup the shared files like the applications or just files specific to their accounts? Is this something I need to control by selecting what files to exclude in the preferences
Time capsule seems great for simple backups but concerns me if I ever have a HD crash. It seems very difficult to restore a backup to a new mac if I ever have to do that. Does anyone else have this concern? I am considering buying another external drive and use SuperDuper to create full bootable backups at least once every 6 months or so.

It is much harder to check what Time Machine has backed up.. you can assume that everything currently needed to reproduce the same setup on another computer is there.
To double check you must spend a bit of time understanding both how Time Machine works and how to restore from it.
Read up a bit from Pondini's excellent KnowledgeBase of articles.

I must also say at the moment, on Yosemite in particular, I would not fully trust Time Machine.
I encourage people to make a bootable clone using Carbon Copy Cloner for example to a USB drive. You do not need to do it continually but the clone makes for a much easier return to normal.. since you can simply change boot disks. It costs $40 and is excellent value.. there are others you can buy.. and I am not connected to CCC in any way.. other than I use it and been amazed at what a great piece of software it is.

I am finding it difficult to easily allow the user to edit the text to the risks on the below project on ipad? It is easy via click on browser preview, but very fiddly on ipad.
Does anyone know of any easier ways for the user to edit the text via touch on ipad?

HI there, your current implementation seems pretty legit to me. I was able to edit the text prety easily the first time, but then when I try to edit the text again, I can't seem to select the text. Not sure if your drag behavior is overriding the input text.

To do the setup, plug it in via ethernet.. do not try to setup over wireless.. Once it is setup you can plug the TC into the network and use wireless.
Most likely you will use the TC in bridge to an existing modem router.. but we cannot help as you have no details of the network setup.
I do recommend in the setup of the TC you use SMB type names.. that means, short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.. as later Mac OS do have issues with long names, spaces and that apple shocker, the apostrophe.

Purge all Time Machine backups for a single user

On my iMac I have my regular user account and a separate "admin" account that I use when things get goofy and I need to back completly out of my system and make sure nothing is in the way when doing admin related tasks.
I was logged in and working on the "admin" account the other day and was waiting for a CCC restore of a disk to complete. When I returned I saw a Time Machine notice that it had completed the backup of ~250GB of data. Since this is only an admin account there is no data on the system to backup, so I'm assuming it backed up a bunch of system files.
Since these files should have already been backed up by my "user" account I want to clean off that 'wasted' 250GB of Time Machine backup, but I am afraid to go in and start deleting items from the TimeMachine screen as I don't want it to delete them from the disk in general.
I have already turned off TimeMachine for the "admin" account but I don't see anywhere in the preferences to allow me to purge all backups for this user.
Or, am I being too worried about the disk space and that 250GB was already covered by the "user" account versions of the files and that Time Machine has built in "deduplication" features?

I don't recommend deleting Time Machine snapshots. If you have multiple backup volumes, which you should have, and you need to repurpose one of them, you should just erase it. But if you want to try it anyway, and if you're running OS X 10.8 or later (not any older version), see below.
Don't attempt this procedure unless you have at least one other complete backup of all the data. You should have another backup anyway — one is never enough to be safe.
Navigate in the Finder to your backup disk, and then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume. If you back up over a network, you'll first have to mount the "sparsebundle" file containing your backups by double-clicking it. Descend into the folder until you see the snapshots, which are represented by folders with a name that begins with the date of the snapshot. Drag the ones you don't want to the Trash and empty. Sometimes, for unknown and unpredictable reasons, the Trash will fail to empty with a cryptic error message. I don't know of any way to recover from that condition except to erase the backup volume and start over.

How can I disable backup for managed app with profile manager?

I use Server App 3.1.2 to manage iOS devices with profile manager.
Is it possible to exclude managed app's backup from users iCloud or iTunes backup?

I have a live login and MS ID 4 my SkyDrive account but I only use my MS touch with 8.1, SkyDrive and office 365 for mobility.
And I still like to backup to my own server!!!
What would be good is if I can put all the software licenses and product keys of the software and keep a record of my mac addresses for hardware and even static IP's in a file or a secure location within the MS online store.
That's where MS wants me to get my computing needs from in future and I will always be able to retrieve it in future but what about the $$$$$ I have spent on software, hardware and applications prior to now???

I looked at dozens of support pages and forum blogs and tried for hours to get a copy to download - including incognito and other logins but because my default PC name is also my MS Windows live ID the same error was repeated.
I keep away from the non MS sites for these things and with good reason - there were heaps of similar users with the same issue or very close to it that had downloaded from a supposed MS copy from eValue or digital river etc and the next
thing was total corruption of the OS.
EVENTUALLY I found a LIVE MS chat on a support site in the US and she gave me a link to a slightly older version which will need updating and some reg edit changes but so far, so good.
The point is - what a crock !

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS

I have already gone thru lot of links, So appreciate if i can have some solution
I have 3 servers A, B and C . A and B are in same domain and C is in different domain. and I am sysadmin in all 3 servers and all have trusted connection with each other
1. All have tcp and named pipe enable
2. All 3 servers and all services including browser are up and running
3. When i connect any sql server from any Server using SSMS i am able to connect and (net_transport, auth_scheme = TCP , NTLM).
Now i create linked server at server B to Server C (C domain is different than A and B). When i login on Server B and try to run query on C its working fine. But after remote login to server A and connect sql server at B using SSMS when
i expand linked server to c i cant see databases and query is giving error "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'"
I also tried to connect to all 3 server in ssms using forced named pipes but i am getting below error
"provider named pipes provider error 40 - Could not open connection to sql server"
My question :
1. I have to use domain account to use linked server from server A to connect SQLserver B to server C, How this can be done is this related to Double hop ??
2. Why i cant connect using forced Named pipe to any server using SSMS except local host

First, it is possible to use Kerberos delegation across trusted domains.
net_transport, auth_scheme = TCP , NTLM
This means something isn't correctly setup as you're defaulting back to NTLM. This should read Kerberos if your SPNs were setup correctly and authenticated properly. Check the SPNs and service accounts.

To go across domains I'm not entirely sure on that part, but I can say it'd probably be easier if you did use a domain account as the service account.

How to backup only users' relevant files from File History on Windows 8.1?

Hi,
I would like to find out how to backup certain user's files from File History on Windows 8.1?
I'm planning to store the backup files on our server, over a shared network, so that client can retrieve them whenever they need.
I manage to do one by excluding all the folders from c:\, but it occurs quite silly to me to go select one by one files to exclude them.
Please advise if there is a better way?

Interesting question. I've me wondering how I can do something similar. But not so much for the email(coz we are not using Oracle Mail), but for the security setup of a user in OCS. eg. a user is granted access to many folders or objects, we want an easy way to deprovision everything. (if backing up is possible before the deprovisioning, even better - just in case a wrong delete was performed, it is recoverable).
The other thing I'm interested is whether a branch in OCS can be backed-up and recovered easily (together with all it's meta-data and attributes) ?
