  • Please help with executing a java program from another java program

    Hi, I have tried to execute a very simple java program which is printed out "Hello world" from another java gui program when the user click on the "START" button. However, I don't receive any print out on the terminal when they click it. These two programs are being developed in Unix environment. Here is the code that I am trying to use.
    Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
    r.exec("java HelloWorld");
    p.s. HelloWorld is java class of the HelloWorld.java

    I think you have to luanch your MS Prompt first before executing the command.

  • I did write a simple java program but it is not working please help me.....

    This is the program I wrote LineRect just to draw a line a rectangle etc...... Y it is not working How can i used the same program to run without using applet that is by using awt and swing.........Pls Help me.............
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class LineRect
    {public void paint(Graphics g)
         {g.drawLine(10,10, 50,50);
         g.drawRect(10, 60, 40,30);
         g.fillRect(60,10,30,80);
         g.drawRoundRect(10,100,80,50,10,10);
         g.fillRoundRect(20,110,60,30,5,5);
         g.drawLine(100,10,230,140);
         g.drawLine(100,140,230,10);
    <APPLET
    CODE =LineRect.class
    WIDTH=250
    HEIGHT=200>
    </APPLET>

    There are many significant errors here for instance you are using a class file as if it were an applet yet you do not subclass applet. Your code has no init method (if it is to be an applet). Your best bet is to go through the tutorials one step at a time. One thing to consider is to subclass a JPanel and draw on the jpanel overriding the paintComponent method. This can then be added to a JFrame or a JApplet's contentPane and would allow the same graphics in both. But again, please study the tutorials on all of this, otherwise you will be doing hit-or-miss programming, and that is no way to learn.
    Much luck!
    Addendum: Also, if you are just beginning in Java programming, I suggest you start with the basics and not with Swing / AWT / graphics programming. Otherwise you will just end up bruised and disappointed. You have to learn to walk before you can run.

  • What Is Wrong With Java? STILL NOT ANSWERED, PLEASE ANSWER!

    So today (10 PM January 20th), the Firefox Plugin Checker said that my Java version was outdated. I also got a pop-up saying that my current version of Java at the time (Java 7 update 10) had vulnerabilities. So to try and fix this, I went to the Java page and downloaded the update (Java 7 update 11).
    To check and see if my update was working, I went to Java's check page, as well as another page I use. And here I discovered a problem. I got a notification that an old version of Java had been detected, and another prompt to download the current version (which I had already done). So I erased all versions of Java from my control panel, and tried to check it again. And when I did, I got this: http://oi50.tinypic.com/35b6xx2.jpg and http://oi47.tinypic.com/15fg37p.jpg.
    As you can see, both pages tell me that I need to install a missing plugin of some sort. So, thinking this would resolve the issue, I clicked the Install Missing Plugin button. This is what it told me was missing: http://oi45.tinypic.com/302uwbl.jpg. So I clicked next to install it.... and got this: http://oi45.tinypic.com/2cici0x.jpg, which I assume means that the plugin did not install. So I pressed Manual Install... and was lead/linked right back to the Java download page (where it all began, and what doesn't seem to be working in the first place)
    I go to check my plugins again (Just to make sure and also for extra information), and it appears to say that my Java version is current (is that what "Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.110.21" is? I don't know, I am not good at technology at all. Either way, here is what it looks like: http://oi48.tinypic.com/4kxzz4.jpg). So...if it is current, why is it not working (i.e. I am unable to play games, DO MY COLLEGE CLASSWORK, or play Java-based games)?
    If it helps anything, here is what my control panel looks like in regards to Java right now: http://oi45.tinypic.com/2qlxu9t.jpg Am I missing anything that would make Java work?
    And before anyone says that Java is not essential: It may be that way to you, but I need Java to do classwork for college. Veterinary college.
    So, in short, what is going on with Java, and how can I fix it?
    EDITEDITEDIT: I Have found that I can do my classwork without Java.
    HOWEVER, this DOES NOT mean that the problem is solved or over with. I STILL WANT TO KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND GET JAVA TO WORK. Even if I never actually need it, I would still like to have a (working!!!) Java version because of two reasons: 1) I would rather have such a program and not need it, than need such a program and not have it, and 2) aesthetics. Sorry to say, but I am very particular about how things look when it comes to my belongings, and the fact that Java is messing up is making me actually stressed. In short, I still want the above issue solved, even if it's just purely for the sake of Peace Of Mind.

    STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN A REPLY. PLEASE ANSWER ASAP, AS THIS IS STILL IMPORTANT TO ME. COME ON NOW, I KNOW THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE ONLINE AND ANSWERING QUESTIONS!!

  • Java program in XP - Please Help

    Hi, I am not sure if I am in the right fourm. I am not a developer, but a network engineer trying to help out my wife. My wife uses a java program to monitor the company she works for web site, which is not linked to a web browser. When she received the java program, it came with Java 1.2.2. Our PC had Windows 98 installed. I purchased a new machine, with Windows XP on it, and installed the java program and JRE on to it. The program does not work. The programmer who wrote the program was fired a few months ago, so I started looking through the internet, and the Sun fourms for a solution. First, the XP machine does not have Microsoft VM on it. Second, I upgraded the java to 1.4.1_02, following the instructions, still with no success. There was a suggestion to dual boot with Windows 98, but I really do not want to do that. What happens is - when you log in to the program, it just freezes. It does not go into the server. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Possible reasons for the program hanging up
    1) The version of the VM on the machine is not correct.
    2) Even if the version is correct and correctly installed, can you please check whether the PATH and CLASSPATH variables are set correctly on the machine where you are running the program.
    3) I use WINXP as well with the latest version of VM downloaded from Sun and NOT Microsoft.
    Hopefully this might solve the issue.

  • Please help me in this tough problem in Java...im just new in Java program

    my teacher give this as a problem. so tough. we are just starting and we are now in control structures. please help me to finish this problem. And my problem is...
    Write an astrology program. The user types in his or her birthday(month,day,year),
    and the program responds with the user's zodiac sign, the traits associated with each sign
    the user's age(in years,months,day), the animal sign for the year(e.g., Year of the Pig,
    Year of the Tiger), the traits associated with each animal sign, and if the year is a leap
    year or not. The dates covered for each sign can be searched through the horoscope section
    of a newspaper or through the internet. Then enhance your program so that if the user is one
    or two days away from the adjacent sign, the program outputs the nearest adjacent sign as well
    as the traits associated with the nearest sign. The month may be entered as a number from 1 to 12
    or in words, i.e.,January to December. Limit the year of the birthday from 1900 to 2010 only.
    The program should allow the user to repeat the entire process as often as desired.
    You can use:
    import java.text.DateFormat;
    import java.util.Date;
    import java.util.Calendar;
    please...those who are genius out there in java program...help us to pass this project. Im begging! thanks!

  • Please help How can i run Os commands thru Java programs

    Hey,
    I want to stop and restart the linux server thru java program.Is it possible to run the os commands thru java program.
    I had it thru Runtime.getRuntime().exec("*.exe");
    it only runs the exe files.How can run files other than exe files like .bat,com ans shell commands..Any body knows please help with the code..or mail to this address
    [email protected]
    thankyou,
    regards,
    j.mouli

    What about "start command.com /C execute.bat", or using the overload that takes a String[] as argument?
    What if you use the the full path of execute.bat?
    What error code do you get?
    And what comes th linux, I'm not sure... you'll need a shell interpreter there too, me thinks. (never had to run anything with runtime.exec on linux). Check the man pages if csh, bash, ksh, or what ever shell you like.

  • Help With Java Program Please!

    Greetings,
    I am trying to figure out to write a Java program that will read n lines of text from the keyboard until a blank line is read. And as it read each line, It's suppose to keep track of
    The longest string so far
    The Longest word seen so far
    The line that contains the most words
    The total number of words seen in all lines
    I don't know where to begin. Help me please! Thank you very much.

    Man I have to say that this smells like home work.
    Since you have not asked for a cut paste code I tell you what to do
    1. Write a function which take single string as a parameter and break it down to words and return words as a array or string
    (You can use this)
    you will need several variables to keep track of
    The longest string so far
    The Longest word seen so far
    The line that contains the most words and number of words in that line
    The total number of words seen in all lines
    now read lines in a loop if the length is 0 exit (that is your exis condition right)
    otherwise check the length of input string and update "The longest string so far"
    then break down the words and update "The Longest word seen so far", "The line that contains the most words and number of words in that line" and "The total number of words seen in all lines"
    and when you are exiting display the above values

    1. Process all data until it reaches the end-of-file. Calculate the win percentage for each team.
    2. Output to a file ("top.txt") a listing of all teams with a win percentage greater than .500. This file should contain the team name and the win percentage.
    3. Output to a file ("bottom.txt") a listing of all teams with a win percentage of .500 or lower. This file should contain the team name and the win percentage.
    4. Count and print to the screen the number of teams with a record greater then .500 and the number of teams with a record of .500 and below, each appropriately labeled.
    5. Output in a message box: the team with the highest win percentage and the team with the lowest win percentage, each appropriately labeled. If there is a tie for the highest win percentage or a tie for the lowest win percentage, you must output all of the teams.
    Dallas 5 2
    Philadelphia 4 3
    Washington 3 4
    NY_Giants 3 4
    Minnesota 6 1
    Green_Bay 3 4

  • Need Help Please - I can't get Java to compile my programs

    Hi, I'm taking a programming course in college and want to be able to compile my java programs at my home laptop instead of just at the lab...
    However, when I write my code and try to compile with TextPad, there is no "Compile" option....Instead there is a grayed-out option of "User-tool"...
    I have installed the J2SE Developmental Kit 5.0 Update 11 and the JavaRuntime Environment 5.0 Update 11....In the labs, the computers have the exact same thing except they are the Update 9 versions....
    What am I missing? Thanks for any help you can offer....

    > TextPad isn't part of the JDK nor runtime of Java,
    and this isn't a TextPad product support site.
    (Edit: Except when yawmark is around)
    Pish. I pointed himmer to the proper place. ;o)
    It would be advisable to lose your addiction to IDE's
    anyway (like TextPad)
    Pish. TextPad isn't an IDE. It's a feature-rich text editor that happens to let you run commands from within the program (though I don't argue with the benefit of compiling/executing from the CL when learning).
