Please help.! Problem with locating classes within Jars under WEB-INF/lib.
Hi All,
I have a problem which you guys would have faced already...Here it goes..
I'm using OC4J 10.1.3.0 and use ADF for my web page. I have a controller class which refers to JSF/ADF APIs and this class is archived as a jar file and put under WEB-INF/lib, Also, all the classes related to JSF/ADF are available under the same WEB-INF/lib folder.
When I invoke my page, the controller class is getting called but it throws NoClassDefFound Error for the ADF based class. i mean, these ADF/JSF classes are not getting found when my jar class is placed within WEB-INF/lib. However, when i extract my jar into WEB-INF/classes, it works.
I'm sure, i miss some entry for classpath somewhere. Can any one please point me to right direction...?
Thanks
Rajasekaran
Hello,
I do not have a direct answer to your question, but could you try the ClassLoader query tools to see if your classes/jar are loaded by the applications:

Deploy problem with ejb jar in WEB-INF/lib
Please help with : StringIndexOutOfBoundsException
On WL 6.1 sp2, I have one EJB jar that deploys fine in an expanded EAR structure,
this has EJB jars and the web apps together running under a single JVM.
But when I need to deploy the Web App to a separate server & JVM, still using
WL 6.1, and leave the EJBs in another WL server I get java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException.
I have about 8 ejb jars. When I put one of them in the Web-App's WEB-INF/lib directory.
I get java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException when it starts up, just after/during
the extracting of classes for the standalone Web App. The exception stack trace
mentions manifest, but the manifest for the ejb jar is just standard. It doesn't
even have a Class-Path: entry, which all the others happen to have. an needs
to contain the server EJB jars.

NoClassDefFoundError with jar in WEB-INF/lib
Hi,
I have an enterprise application running on Websphere 6. I have one external jar file in WEB-INF\lib (it's commons-lang). I am getting NoClassDefFoundError when trying to use classes in this jar file from the web app -- I thought that it was sufficient to drop the jar in \lib and then it would be picked up but obviously that is not the case.
As a workaround, I've created a shared lib on the app server for this jar, and added it to the application. This works fine, but I can't understand why is should be required.
Shouldn't it be sufficient just to put the jar file in WEB-INF\lib under the webapp?I think Websphere 6 already includes commons-logging. So the error you are getting may be classloader confusion, which is easy to do with Websphere and hard to understand (so I may be confused here). Try not including it anywhere, not in your web app and not whatever it was you did to make it work. Restart Websphere and your web app and see what happens.

Jars in web-inf/lib not in classpath
Hello,
I am building a web application where I wish to use third party jars.
(specifically cos.jar and log4j.jar)
AFAIK when you place these jars in the web-inf/lib directory of your application
they should then be included in the application classpath.
However this does not seem to always work. I am using Weblogic 6.1, no service
pack.
Eventually I got it to work by adding a manifest to my EJB jar file with the classpath
pointing to the jars and including the jars in the ear file.
Has anyone else had any issues with this?
Thanks,
James
James,
Yes, I've had troubles with WLS 6.1.2 finding the classes in my jar files
that are stored in WEB-INF/lib when deploying as a .war file. The funny
thing is that when I deploy to a WLS 6.1.0 running on two other machines
(one solaris, one linux), I don't see this problem.
My servlets all extend the webmacro WMServlet class, which is found in
WEB-INF/lib/webmacro.jar. When deploying my web app, grems, I see the
following behavior.
On WLS 6.1.0 (running on solaris), the server unjars the WEB-INF/lib files into
".wlnotdelete/WEB-INF/_tmp_war_myserver_myserver_grems". That directory
contains a jar file for each one in my .war files WEB-INF/lib directory.
On WLS 6.1.2 (running on Solaris), however, the server just doesn't seem to do that.
Instead, it creates
".wlnotdelete/WEB-INF/_tmp_war_myserver_myserver_grems/WEB-INF/lib". Not
only that, but it doesn't put any of my jar files into that directory.
Notice that it create the WEB-INF directory twice for some reason.
Needless to say, any class which uses a class from one of those jar files
bombs spectacularly with a ClassNotFound exception. This is extremely
frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bobby

WebLogic 8.1 SP6 NoClassDefFoundError for jar in WEB-INF/lib dir (Solaris)
Hi,
I am getting a NoClassDefFoundError for a class that is contained in the WEB-INF/lib folder of my ear/war file.
The strange thing is that this only fails when i try to deploy to production. In UAT (also on Solaris) and in Windows (test) the exact same versions of the deployment / ear file everything seems fine and the class is accessed.
When i added the jar file to the classpath i experienced a "Unsupported major.minor version...." of this class error so i am reluctant to go down that route and anyway would rather consistent deployment between the systems.
I would REALLY appreciate any suggestions as to what might be the cause or what i could try.
Thanks,
DavidThanks for your replies. Sorry if i didn't post enough information for you...
I appear to have found the problem (i managed to recreate in Windows) but have no idea why this is occuring.
In the startManagedWebLogic.cmd file, if i specify "set JAVA_OPTIONS= xxxxxx" then the system will not pick up this one jar file. This appears to be the case even with "set JAVA_OPTIONS=-Dweblogic.attribute=value -Djava.attribute=value" which i assume is a default value as i can't remember having set it... The moment i comment out this set JAVA_OPTIONS line then the system is able to find the jar file.
(Answering your questions:
- The class in question is being referenced from another class also contained in a jar file in the WEB-INF/lib directory
- the WEB-INF is part of the WAR which is contained in the EAR which is deployed on my server)
For now i am ok but know that in a future build i am going to have to use the JAVA_OPTIONS parameter so would really appreciate any suggestions as to why this might be happening.
Thanks,
David -
EAR has WAR has JAR in WEB-INF\lib NoClassDefFoundError
What a nightmare.
I found approximately 40 forums on this topic (and there are probably more), but noone has the definitive answer!
Here's the problem....
My servlet uses a utility class that resides in some other jar. That jar is then placed into the WEB-INF\lib directory of the WAR which in turn goes into the EAR. This is supposed to be all that is needed in order for the utility class to be found on the classpath.
In fact, if you run the war in Tomcat as a standalone WAR it does in fact find it.... its when in an EAR deloployed to app server that the problem arises.
I have had no luck with using any combination of putting the jar ANYWHERE in the EAR or WAR no matter if I specify the Class-Path: in the manifest(s) or not.
I thought maybe that I was missing some config in the application.xml or web.xml but I couldn't find anything to support that.
Maybe its dependent on the app server? I am using Orion, but the same problem can be found on J2EE RI release 1.3
Work arounds:
1. Simply put the utility jar in the lib directory of the server you're using
2. Add an ejb module to the application.xml naming the utility jar as the ejb jar. Of course this is NOT an EJB jar and error messages/warnings will appear accordingly, but on Orion at least, it will load the classes needed... hooray!!
Anyone got a definitive answer?What did you do to resolve this issue .. I'm having the exact same problem.

Can we downlod jar from WEB-INF/lib using webstart?
Hi,
Can we down jars which are in WEB-INF/lib directory
using jnlp (webstart)?I got the basic concept of webstart.
I can download jar only if publicly accessible (It
should form a valid URL).Note an important distincion here..
1) It is possible to form valid URL's that
point to WEB-INF/lib.
2) The server should not allow access, to
that URL (any URL pointing inside WEB-INF/lib)
and should return instead the HTTP code that says
'not allowed/barred/forbidden'
There is a big difference between a[b] valid URL,
and a valid URL pointing to a forbidden resource.
But yes, you seem to understand correctly,
that the jar's for web-start cannot be loaded
back to the client, from this directory.
Thanks for your help.You're welcome. -
Help - problems with mixin class and recursion
I'm trying to set up functionality which will allow me to track gui node nesting.
Basically, I'd like to have an optional name for each node and be able to generate a string which uses these to track descent. So, e.g., if I have "panel1" as my top scene, "control1" as a node within that scene and "image1" as a node within control1, I'd like to be able to produce the string "panel1.control1.image1" with a call to the image1 node.
I am attempting to do this with a mixin class, as it seems precisely the sort of situation suited to mixins. So I have:
import java.lang*;
public mixin class Descent {
public-init var objName:String = getClass().toString();
public function getObjDescent():String;
}When an object is created, it can be assigned a name - or, if there's no assignment, it gets given its class name. When I want the full "descent name" of the object, I'll call getObjDescent(). So far so good.
But now it gets trickier. The idea is to track descent within javafx nodes. If I don't want to assume everything is set up properly, I've got to cover a few cases:
(a) the class into which this object is mixed - the mixee - is not a javafx node
(b) the mixee is a javafx node, but its parent is not
(c) the mixee is a javafx node and descends from a javafx node
Thus:
public function getObjDescent():String
var build:String="";
// get parent's name, if it has it
try {
var nodeClass:Class[] = [javafx.scene.Node.class];
var checkIsNode = this.getClass().getMethod("getNodeMaxHeight",nodeClass);
if ((this as Node).parent != null) {
var parentDescentFn = (this as Node).parent.getClass().getMethod("getObjDescent",(null as Class[])) ;
build = ((this as Node).parent as Descent).getObjDescent();
build = build.concat(".");
catch (e:NoSuchMethodException)
build = "";
build.concat(this.objName);
};First I have to check if the mixee is a javafx Node. I can't do this by member checking because javafx doesn't support that. So I have to check by methods. I use one of the Node methods - getNodeMaxHeight - if it is defined for the mixee, the mixee is a node. If not, I'll get an error and can abort down to the catch section.
If this mixee is a node, then it will have a parent node. If that parent also has descent info, I have to prefix that parent's descent name. So now I need to figure out if I can recursively call getObjDescent() on the parent.
So I do the same getMethod() approach on the parent (if any) to see if it has a name I have to prefix. If not then, again, we abort out to the NoSuchMethodException error catch.
Now I should be sure that this is a node and its parent has the Descent fields. So I should be safe to call the parent for its info.
Here I've done this as
((this as Node).parent as Descent).getObjDescent().Though that gives me no errors, I'm not sure if that's the right way to cast things - will it look at the wrong portion of the object to find the method call? Better would be to call the function using the parentDescentFn variable, which I've gotten in checking to see if the parent has the Descent class mixed in, but I can't figure out how to go from a java.lang.reflect.Method variable to generating an actual call of that method. So there's a first question.
However I get to that recursive call, I will get back the parent's descent name. I add my descent separator, '.', and then append the objName of this particular class. Voila - the full descent name.
Though the above throws no warnings in the editor, it generates two compile errors.
First, it tells me it cannot find the symbol:
symbol : method get$class()
location: class javafx.scene.Node
var nodeClass:Class[] = [javafx.scene.Node.class];I need to construct a Class[] containing Node for my call to getMethod in the next line. Is this not the right way to specify the Node class?
The next error is:
non-static variable this cannot be referenced from a static context
var checkIsNode = this.getClass().getMethod("getNodeMaxHeight",nodeClass);I still find what javafx treats as "static" and what non-static to be mystifying. I'm fairly sure I've seen mixin classes which use "this" to grab the mixee object, and I certainly need to do so in this case to check if the mixee is a javafx Node and, subsequently, to get its parent Node.
So... three problems:
- Using "this" in a mixin class ... what's messing that up?
- constructing the Class[] sequence for the first call to getMethod
- (possibly) properly generating a call to the parent mixee's getObjDescent() method.
urg.RE static vs non-static of this:
I'm not sure, but I think it's a little less straightforward:
e.g. if I type:
var dummy = this; no problem. (This is analogous to what you did.)
But if I type:
var dummy = this.getClass();I get the static/non-static error. I take this to reflect the fact that getClass() is not defined by the mixin class, even if it is defined for any object which might use that class. (Perhaps, down deep in the code, "this" has been redirected to point just to that block of memory which gives the implementation of the mixin information?)
Yet if I type
var dummy = getClass();it works fine, and returns the class which is implementing the mixin.
My guess is that "this" is being treated specially with a mixin class - I think, at compile time, if it just says "this" it is ignored by the "mixin" handling and passed along to the regular class compiling to process, but if it is this.method() or this.member, then the mixin class handles it and will throw that error if it gets any methods or members which it did not itself define.
I haven't had any trouble using the Class objects in javafx, though I don't think I can easily make them do what I, here, specificly want to do. But getClass() seems to work just fine (as long as I don't say this.getClass() !!), as do calls to get or invoke members - I got that one of the 3 problems solved.
I discovered that javafx seems to flatten its classes out to the single implementation of FXObject - when I attempted to parse the interfaces of the mixee class to see if "Node" was a member (which it should be, conceptually), I only got 2 interfaces: FXObject and my mixin class. So I can't use the Class commands to find out of the mixee class object implements Node or not.
I also discovered that, given how javafx seems to compile itself into java, I could actually check for members as well as methods: getMethod("loc$parent") would actually return the parent member, if present. So getMethod can be used to check for the presence of both members and methods in javafx classes. I could not figure out, however, how to get from that reference to the value of the object itself - while invoke() works properly for methods, I couldn't get it to work for the members it retrieved. Though I didn't try too terribly hard.
The getMethod() Class function did allow me to check if a class had my mixin class present - or, at least, if it contained a method with the same name as one defined in that class.
Ultimately, though, I'm still stuck with trying to answer the questions, given a generic javafx class (implicit in this, which I could get by getClass()):
- does this mixee class implement Node?
- if so, what is the value of its "parent" member ((this as Node).parent didn't seem to work within the mixin class' code. Or so it seemed.)
I've gotten around that problem by adding a Node member to the class, so that, rather than trying to deduce it from "this" or the Class functions, it simply uses its variable. Less elegant and more memory-using, but quicker and, actually, more flexible. That approach solves my immediate problem, though it does leave unanswered the more basic questions raised by the exercise.

Please Help-Problem with Optical Drive, it's a Mystery...
Well I'm a fairly big Imogen Heap fan, and her new CD came out the 25th. So I went to Best Buy and I bought the deluxe version which includes a seperate disc with instrumentals. I got home, put it in, and my Mac made a "scratching" kind of noise, then it spit out the disc. I figured there was a problem with it, I went back to Best Buy, got a new one, and it did the exact same thing.
HOWEVER, both of the instrumental discs worked just fine, and imported just fine. The normal audio disc also works on my Ubuntu computer, Windows computer, and my other Early 2009 Macbook Pro. I also restarted my Mac, cleaned the disc, and that did nothing.
So, what's the problem do you think?
(Also I went to Apple but there were no appointments available, and they were too busy to just look at it without an appointment )Hi Mate,
I didn't do an OS install, I took it to an apple store and made a Genius Bar appointemnt. Explained the proble and after 15min conversation, they diagnosed it as teh following;
The felt/rubber where you put the CD/DVD had gone hard and the friction is causing the CD/DVD to get stuck and be loaded. They tried to tell me that I need to replace the top case (£140+VAT) as its in-built into it or I can use a £3 spudger to push the CD's in......needles to say the Spudger works fine.....Shame I wasted £100 on the new optical drive ;o( Maybe sell teh spare on eBay....Happy days! -
PLEASE HELP - Problem with 2 column fixed template in Dreamweaver CS3
I am trying to create a website using the 2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and footer html template in Dreamweaver CS3. I tried putting a picture in the right side bar as well as with in the main content or left portion of the page, and neither picture is showing up when I view it in any of the browsers I'm using.
I've made some minor changes in colors and sizing, but other than that no other changes. The pic I put in for the header is showing up just fine though.
Any help or advice to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!Here is the base Dreamweaver code including the pic references that I'm trying to show on either side - when the browser opens, it only shows a blank space where the pics should be... let me know what you think. Thanks!!

gotoAndStop("scene02", "firstframeLabel");
Thank you for your help!!!!Hi
I'm trying to use Key Listeners to solve my problem.
I don't know much about key liseners so can somebody help me out.
I have the following on a keyframe yet it still wont jump to the certain frames when I press the relevent keys. Am I missing something?
stop();
KeyListener = new Object();
KeyListener.onKeyDown = function() {
if (Key.getAscii() == 38) { // UP key
gotoAndStop(89);}
if (Key.getAscii() == 40) { // DOWN key
gotoAndStop(91);}
if (Key.getAscii() == 37) // LEFT key
gotoAndStop(88);}
if (Key.getAscii() == 32) { // SPACEBAR key
loadMovie("application_01.swf", "container");}
