Podcast image?

Hi, I've got my RSS feed linked to a JPEG image that I know is far larger than 300 x 300 pixels (minimum), but it still doesn't show up when my podcast is downloaded from the iTunes store. How can I get that to work?

You need to have an [itunes:image] statement. See the specification at http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html . Thew format of the command is:
<itunes:image href="http://example.com/podcasts/everything/AllAboutEverything.jpg" />
Especially note:
iTunes supports images in JPEG and PNG formats. The URL must end in ".jpg" or ".png". If the itunes:image tag is not present, iTunes will use the contents of the RSS image tag.
So whatever content management system you are using probably won't work for the image.

  • Podcast Image Won't Update/Change

Recently I have been attempting to change podcast's logo. Despite the fact that I have pointed to it correctly and giving it a different file name, the old logo remains. I even overwrote the old logo for good measure, just in case.
I have also pinged the iTMS. Everything else works fine... but no logo update.
    Here are the links:

    Anyone have an idea?

I just want to give an update for anyone else who might be having podcast image problems.
I finally found that my image has been updated, after almost 3 weeks of changing it. I am not sure if this is what helped the problem... but I DID "report a problem" with my own podcast, stating that the logo was not updating. this may have gotten the iTunes editorial attention.

  • Podcast image is not showing during testing.

I subscribed to my podcast feed to test it in iTunes before submitting to the iTunes store. All is working well except the podcast image is not showing. What do I need to do to get the image to show?

The image is located here: http://www.lhfcaz.org/images/itunesimage.jpg

The image which appears on the Store page is referenced in the feed: but the image which appears when you subscribe (either manually or from the Store page) is not - it is embedded in each episode's media file. This page explains the situation and what to do about it:

  • Podcast image not displaying! Help please!

    Hello,
any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I've been troubleshooting for the past month and can't seem to fix this...
i recently had my podcast channel approved but the podcast image is still not displaying...
when I followed the instructions given by Apple on their podcast start up page, I opened iTunes, clicked File, clicked Subscribe to Podcast and entered my RSS feed address.  Everything displayed fine, image was working an everything.
however, the channel has now been approved and the image is still not showing up in the iTunes store....
does it usually take a while for images to display?
my image is 1900x1902 and is 2.5 MB.
Does it have to be perfectly square in order for it to be displayed? If so, how come it displayed when I entered the feed url after clicking 'Subscribe to Podcast' in the iTunes File menu?
Is there a size limit? Again, if so, how come it displayed when I entered the feed url after clicking 'Subscribe to Podcast' in the iTunes File menu?
    THank you for your help.
    regards,
    J

The image filesize is much too large at 2.5MB: it must be less than 500kB and I'm surprised your feed wasn't rejected in the first place because of this. I would recommend reducing the dimensions to 1400 x 1400 to be on the safe size, and reducing the file size to below 500kB is essential (and it must be JPG or PNG).
When you've changed it, also change the file name, amend the feed and reupload it. It will take quite some days before the image appears in the Store.
The image appears in My Podcasts view when subscribing but probably the iTunes application - which is completely separate from the Store - isn't so fussy. The Store caches the image so you can see why they would want to limit the filesize, given the many thousands of podcasts in the Store.
When you have a question please always post the URLs of your Store page and of your feed. I was able to give you an answer this time, but in most cases it's necessary to be able to look at the feed.

  • Enhanced Podcast Image Size?

Hi - I'm wondering if anyone knows what the minimum, maximum, recommended, or optimal image size and resolution are for building enhanced podcasts in Garageband. I have looked through a variety of support options at Apple and I can't find any guidelines about what file types and sizes can be used when adding images to an enhanced podcast, just which sound and video files are supported. The podcasts may be viewed via iTunes or on an iPod, so the viewing size may vary drastically. Any tips would be helpful! Thank you!

    Hi
Optimal size/resolution for an extended podcast image is 300x300 at 72 dpi. Use .jpg

  • Itunes podcast image not working

I am using feedburner to generate a podcast feed for a website my agency worked on. It works fine, we can post things and they show up as podcasts if there is an audio file attached, and the feed shows up fine on feedburner. We used smartfeed on feedburner to generate the extra tags needed for an itunes podcast, including the podcast image, but it's not working. We made sure to input a 1400x1400 image as the feed image, and every time we have changed the image we have made sure to make the filename different so itunes recognizes that there is a differnet image. It has been almost a week since we put in that image and it still is not showing up.
I don't know if it just takes longer, or if there is something wrong, but we have been trying to get an image working for a few weeks now.
The link to the podcast is here
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/uncommon-austin-podcast-2013/id468093685?mt= 2
I can link to the feedburner feed as well if needed. But we would just like to know of a solution to our problem.
    Thanks
    Josh

'OC Coug on a Mac ' - your feed references the podcast image correctly. It's become apparent from the number of similar posts that there is an ongoing problem with the Podcast Images. They were always slow to appear, but in some cases it's been weeks with no results.
There isn't really anything you can do yourself - your feed is fine (and 600x600 is the recommended size, though smaller would do - it's not the cause of the problem). I would recommend you and anyone else with this issue to contact iTunes Support. You won't get an immediate resolution, but if a lot of people complain it may kick-start them into doing something about it.
Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options.

  • Podcast image missing

After years of displaying correctly, my podcast image is now missing and seems to have been replaced by the default iTunes image in the iTunes store.  Here is the feed:  http://moneypit.com/show/moneypit_podcast.xml.  Would appreciate any suggestions on why this happened and how to resolve it.  I have confirmed that the image still exists on the server.  Thanks in advance to anyone can assist!

  • Where should there be a placeholder for a podcast image?

When I posted the second episode of a podcast on iTunes I again got no podcast image. This is caused (as a friendly helper on the iTunes forum explained) because I don't have an image in 'the top section' of my web page where normally a placeholder would be.
I'm not sure where exactly to place that imageholder.
Does anyone have a link to an iWeb page with such an imageholder or does anyone have a template that is full proof for creating and publishing podcasts (episodes) to iTunes?
It would be an enormous help!
    Thanks very much!!!

  • Podcast Image is Not Updating for over Two Weeks

Hi. I use Wordpress - > Feedburner - > iTunes Store and my designated podcast image has not been updated in the Store for over two weeks. However I will note that on the Apple Podcast App, and in the iTunes Podcasting Section in my iTunes Library, the image updated almost immediately. It's only in the store that it's a problem, plus, that is the URL we use to share on Social Media. So it's code red!
I have been following all the threads, and understand that sometimes the store gets "stuck," but we are reaching hair-pulling-out-of-our-skulls mode, considering our large audience-base and the regularity with which we share the podcast on Social Media.
The outdated image, which iTunes Store is still displaying, does not exist anywhere on or offline at all. It is behaving as a ghost, not the scary kind the really f*cking annoying kind. I have no idea how in the world the store is still accessing it. It is 2014, and I simply cannot believe that Apple Technology would be this sluggish, and so I'm beginning to suspect I've messed something up somewhere, and really I'm at a loss and I can't keep telling my superiors that it's someone else's fault and HELP HELP HELP
    anyway (clears throat)
Here is the wordpress RSS:  http://stephenmansfield.tv/category/podcast/feed/
Here is the Feedburner RSS: http://feeds.feedburner.com/MansfieldPodcast
Here is the correct media URL I entered in "SmartCast -> Podcast Image Location" on Feedburner over two weeks ago:

Here is our iTunes Podcast URL which is magically (read stupidly) displaying a non-existent jpg file as our image:

After over 8 weeks, I got my image updated. I don't know exactly what did it. First I followed Roger's advice and changing the file name to a name that had never been used before. The fact that I reset back to an earlier image, thus a file name that had already been used, maybe confused it a little bit. So I changed the file name and re-uploaded. I also compressed the file size down a notch to make it smaller.
Finally, I bugged Apple tech support on the phone to no end (sorry sir, we don't know how to fix this, sorry sir, we don't really understand podcasting) until they gave me this email adress, and there, they told me they reset the feed:
    Podcasts at apple .com
It is 2014, and updating a dedicated Podcast image should not be this hard. They need to totally revamp their system. I think the more we complain about this on the forums, the quicker this will happen.
This is the only podcast directory that has this outdated problem. Unfortunately, it's also the most important podcast directory.
    Apple Fail.

  • It's been a week and my podcast image hasn't updated. How can I address this?

I've validated the feed, so I don't think the issue is in the HTML coding. I understand that iTunes "edge caches" images, but I'm not actually clear what that means. Is it normal for it to take more than week for iTunes to start displaying my podcast image?
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

  • Podcast Image wont show up in iTunes

I have started my podcast, using feedburner and and blogger, and I uploaded my podcast image to feedburner. However, when iTunes downloads the feed for the Podcast, it downloads all the episodes, descriptons links and what not, but it wont download the image. Why? How can I get it to download the image. I havent yet posted the feed to the iTunes store, I want to get it perfect before I do. Here is the feed URL. You can still use it in iTunes but it just wont get the image. Right now, i only have the test episode, to make sure it works, it does, i just need the image.
You can open the feed in Safari, or iTunes. Itunes will only pick up the audio podcast though. Which is what I want it to do.

  • Podcast image not popping up in itunes store / itunes program

    hi people,
    question:
i've made a podcast but the image is not popping up in the itunes store and the itunes program. the podcast was approved 2 days ago though. also the 'author' is not showing.
    this is the feed:
    http://www.scientific.nl/rss/mav-podcast.rss
and this is the itunes link:
    http://itunes.apple.com/nl/podcast/mav-scientific-records-scientific/id415350042
i've read some other threads about this topic, but i don't seem to be able to solve it. i read that the <itunes:image> tag needs to be included. when i do that though, then itunes will not accept my feed at all. i get this little 'i' sign when i check the feed in the itunes program.
it looks like whenever i put a <itunes:something..> in my .rss file, then it won't accept the feed at all.
i've now inserted a normal <image> tag in there. itunes then does accept the feed, but the image doesn't show.
also i've made the image 600x600 now. it was smaller before so i thought maybe that would be the problem. tried .jpg and tried .png .. both not succesful.
    anyone got any idea?
    greets
    mischa

Instead of 'image href' your tag should start 'itunes:image href'
But the reason that's not working is that you don't have the declaration at the top of your feed. The first two lines must read:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
Without this no 'itunes' tags will work.

  • Podcast image does not transfer to iPod

I publish a podcast, hosted by Podbean, and when I publish an episode, the image is displayed only in the iTunes player. It does not display with the Podcast in the Podcast Library in iTunes on my PC, nor does it transfer to my iPod. Evidently the image IS "transferred" to iTunes when iTunes picks up the new episode, but it does NOT "transfer" from iTunes to the downloader's machine or iPod. Any ideas of a setting I may be missing, or anything I may be doing wrong?
If it would help to look at the podcasts, they are (1) Alien Nation Student Ministries with Pastor Rob Deveney and (2)NUnity Church of God with Pastor George Moxley.
    Thanks for any help!

New info: the artwork IS there when I download directly to my iPod. My issue is obviously with iTunes on my PC. That's better; I was worreid no one who downloaded the podcasts would have the images, but evidently they will if they download direct to iPod. Meanwhile, I'd still like to know what's up with transfers from iTunes to iPod.
