Podcast Rejected DJ Mix

Hi, my podcast has been rejected. It's a DJ mix and I fear it's because of copyright issues although I read somewhere iTunes doesn't accept responsibility for copyright. Other DJ mixes are on there too. After reading lots of advice and tutorials for DJs to get their mixes onto iTunes I planned my podcast and learnt how to get it on iTunes, not once was copyright explained as an issue. In case it's a technical issue here is the link to the feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/SimmoJ-YouWantFresh
Thanks

If you have music in your podcast from any of the major record lables - like say - Coldplay - which you have in your podcast - then there is little to no chance you will ever get your podcast approved.
You need to make sure all your music is 100% Podsafe and does not come from any major record lables.
Even if Coldplay themselves gave you the rights to Mix their music - they don't have all the rights themselves - their Record lable has some and the record labels do not give podcasts the permission to make mechanical copies - which is what a podcast download is legally.
So if you want your podcast in iTunes - you must get rid of all RIAA music.
Best of Luck,
Rob W

  • ITunes Store Podcast Rejected Notification

    Hi guys..
I received a 'iTunes Store Podcast Rejected Notification' email on the 1st of this month & ever since then i've been trying to get to the bottom of it.
My podcast had successfully been on itunes for almost 4 years without a hitch & out of the blue it was removed by itunes for no apparent reason.
I've been emailing them back & forth & around 25 emails later they still haven't given me any specific answers (just links to various sites) & all they do is avoid the questions i ask & talk like robots. Now they have rudely ignored the last 10 emails i've sent.
I can't understand why it has been removed as it has been on there for almost 4 years without a problem. My new episode was on there for a couple months & actually reached number 3 in the charts.
I would also like to know if i do fix eventually fix this problem & manage to re-submit successfully, will i still have all my subscribers?
    So to the technical side.
    - I've tried re-submitting the feed maybe 10 times to no avail. Not even an email to acknowledge it.
    - I've used a 'feed validator' & it says the feed is fine
    - I've successfully managed to subscribe to the podcast via 'advanced', 'subscribe to podcast' through itunes & all the episodes appear fine
I don't manually touch the feed itself. I post on to 'Podomatic' & i assume they deal with how the feed works.
    Podcast URL: http://djmaxcords.podOmatic.com
    Podcast Feed: http://djmaxcords.podOmatic.com/rss2.xml
Any help would be really appreciated!
    Thanks
    Max

Your podcast appears to consist of mixes of Michael Jackson and perhaps other records (I haven't examined the episodes in any detail), presumably mostly commercially issued tracks.
If you have not obtained either permission in writing from the copyright owners, or a podcasting licence from a recognized authority, then you are in breach of copyright and that would be sufficient reason for your podcast to be removed (they may only just have woken up to it). I have to say that when they reject a podcast for reasons of content they really ought to give an indication that this is why.
If you have in fact cleared the material for use in your podcast then you would have to make this clear to Apple.
If you are able to resubmit and get approval, and are able to retain the same feed URL, then your subscribers shouldn't be affected.

  • Podcast Rejected

Itunes is not upload my podcast, so i thought my feed may have some problem, so i  decided to change the feed. I send a e-mail to itunes, it is about i want to remove the current feed, and upload a need feed. After one day, my podcast has been uploaded. But i recived a e-mail which is iTunes Store Podcast Rejected Notification e-mail yesterday,it seems like my feed has been deleted. After it, i deleted that feed and create a new by using feedburner. Both feed use the same source, but when i try to submit my new feed to itunes, it rejected, it said it has been submit already. What should i do now? Thanks for any advise.

You will need to change the title slightly to avoid this error message, so that it looks like a new feed. However you should try to identify the reason it was removed to make sure it won't be rejected again. This page listes possible reasons for removal or rejection:

  • Artwork from podcasts is getting mixed into other music

I started downloading podcasts recently, and shortly afterwards I found this problem. The artwork that comes with podcasts is getting mixed into my album artwork and vice-versa. This is only happening on my iPod, not on my computer. In iTunes, the artwork is with the correct files. The only way I've found to fix this problem is to:
    a)delete the artwork from iTunes
    b)sync my iPod
c)attach the artwork back onto the file
    d)sync my iPod again
It only happens with some albums, in a random pattern. Anyone else have this problem? If so, is there a permanent fix? I've got the latest version of iTunes.

Known but rare problem. No known fix.
There is no need to delete the artwork from iTunes. Just change setting for iPod, sync, turn on artwork option again, sync again.

  • Listening to podcast or sport mix?

I prefer to listen to either a podcast or sport mix when I'm running, but I can't figure out how to do that. The guy at the Nike store told me I need to save my podcasts as MP3 files, and I've done that, and moved them into the selection for my nano. But I can't figure out how to associate them with a workout. Do I have to put them into a playlist in order to work out to them, or is there another method?

Hi Tharpo, unfortunately this is not a helpful answer, but a response from someone with a similar problem... I also prefer listening to podcasts while running, and have not figured out how to listen to more than one without pausing my workout. I tried putting a couple of podcasts into a playlist, starting them just before the run, and then selecting the "playing now" (or whatever it's called) playlist to accompany the workout. Didn't work - after the first podcast in the playlist I'd made finished, it simply restarted, and didn't proceed to the next podcast. Given that my runs are quite long, I definitely don't want to hear the same thing repeated over and over! Nor do I want to pause my workout. Any help out there would be much appreciated!

  • Why was my podcast rejected?

So I recently submitted a podcast for myself. It was a DJ podcast and was accepted just fine. The other day I submitted one for my partner in my DJ business. I got an e-mail today saying his was rejected and I am not sure why. Mine is EDM and his is Hip-Hop, but I set the Explicit setting to yes for his, because of the language. Can anyone help? The feed is http://frozenphoenixent.com/itunes2.xml

From the description I assume that your podcast consists of a 'mix' of commercially issued recordings? This is a breach of copyright, and consequently your podcast will not be allowed in the Store. You can't use such recordings in a podcast without specific written permission of the copyright owners (which you are not likely to get).
There is a certain amount of music available as 'podcast safe' - where you would have permission to use the material: you could search on that term in Google if you wanted to follow that idea up.

  • Podcast rejected, some commercial tracks, any advice?

    Hi people.
I make eclectic mix compilations featuring a wide range of tracks - some commercial, others from the label i work for.
I'd love to share these via itunes, but apple dont share my enthusiasm!
My submission was rejected, although it passes the technical tests and features 5 episodes.
This whole issue seems to be a rather grey area as I've found plenty of other podcasts featuring commercial tracks, and seen them as a great way of discovering new music - any new tunes i like, i go on to purchase from the store.
I've updated my podcasts by including much more info and full tracklistings, but now it doesnt seem possible to resubmit the podcast!! ('tje feed has already been submitted')
Can anyone offer some advice or thoughts on what to do next??
    Many thanks,
    DG.

  • Podcast thumbnails are mixed up

I'm finding a funny thing seems to be happening with my iPod and itunes..
First I find that now when I download podcasts in itunes I get a load of failed downloads, (any thoughts why?) but secondly when I look at the thumbnails for each of the podcasts on the iPod they are all mixed up, all in the wrong place, what should I do, restore the iPod? or is there a better thing to do?
    Thanks

I have the same problem, and it's really annoying because I'm always clicking the wrong podcast because usually one tends to look at the thumb first.

  • Podcast rejected, can't get it to resubmit...

I have had a podcast on itunes for the past 3 years.  I recently switched servers, so I stuck a HTTP 301 redirect on the old feed to send it to my feedburner page.  Almost immediately I received notice from Apple that my show had been rejected from the itunes market, with the link to all the possible reasons why.
Now or course, I cannot resubmit the feed.  I have tried submitting the new feed that feedburner points to, the feedburner feed, and the old feed address with the 301 redirect.  Sometimes it says the feed has already been submitted, sometimes it tells me it "appears" the feed has been submitted.  I went into the feedburner page and changed the title slightly, but still get same message.  I have also gone into the main rss and changed the title there, but again no luck.
The feeds I have tried to submit are:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/jafmp
    http://www.jafmp.com/?feed=podcast
    http://jafmp.com/podcast/podcast.xml
Is there something I am missing?
    Thanks!

Although the 301 redirect has been seen to work, the correct way to redirect iTunes to a different feed is described here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#changing
However as you've been rejected this is no longer an option. The feeds themselves seem to be OK and can be subscribed to in iTunes. There is a bug in the Store whereby if you resubmit a feed which has been rejected you are told it's already been submitted (which is true but irrelevant). The way round this is to change the title, which you say you've done. You could also change the filename of the feed (if possible - the feed URL in Feedburner may depend on the title of the feed, so it will change anyway).
If neither of these works the only thing I can suggest is iTunes Support, but I have to say you are unlikely to find the helpful: mostly they just send back form answers which don't address the problem. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to either 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options, or you may see a link to email them.

  • Podcasts & Music not mixing in Smart Playlists. Only music is played.

First- this is not the Podcast order problem. I mix my music in with a couple of podcasts- KCRW song of the day and The Onion, a 1 minute funny spoof newscast. I like to listen to a mix of music and these short podcasts.
Since the early days, I have been doing this. It works just fine on my old iPod Photo. However, it does not work on my Nano (3rd gen) and iPod Touch (2nd gen, 3.1.3 update).
I have set Podcasts to sync in iTunes in the profile of the Touch, and if I click the down arrow in iTunes on the iPod, and display my playlist, it shows the Podcasts all visible on my iPod (818 items, of which 675 are songs and 143 are Podcasts). And, if I go to my Touch, and select the playlist and scroll down through it, I can see all the Podcasts. But- the frustrating part- when I hit "Shuffle" to mix up the songs and play that playlist, they are missing, and the song count says "1 of 675", so it is clearly not counting the Podcasts as part of the playlist, even though the listing shows them present. Ditto on the Nano.
Does anyone have any clues what to do here? I have tried "Genre contains Podcast", etcs... If I put in "Playist is Music" which I have seen elsewhere, all podcasts disappear from the list, as they are not actually music, so I don't really understand that particular tip.

Very cool- that worked, thank you! I didn't know that was even an option, and it must have popped up sometime after I bought my iPod Photo in 2005. And I would guess that the iPod Photo ignores that setting, since it worked just fine on that device, but nothing since then.
One question- I was able to bulk-edit my three Podcast groups by clicking on the group header and applying to all. But will each subsequent Podcast (I get at least 2 new ones each day) default back to Skip, and periodically I'll have to go back and re-edit the groups? Or since I edited at Group level, does iTunes make that setting sticky for that category?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Please help, podcast rejected

Our podcast was approved and running for 3 weeks, 4 episodes, and we just received an email saying we were rejected. Not sure why this is, our feed validates fine.
    Title: Ruby5
Description: All your ruby news in 5
    Feed URL: http://feeds.feedburner.com/Ruby5
iTunes URL (no longer works): http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=327234205
    Podcast Homepage: http://ruby5.envylabs.com
This is a news podcast which doesn't contain any questionable content.
Please help, would like to get this resolved ASAP so we don't lose any listeners.
    Thanks!

I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions. I wondered whether the fact that the latest episode is in effect an advertisement for a paid-for service might be an issue, but apparently this is permmitted - see
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/whatson/podcasts/creatorfaq.html
which also lists likely reasons for rejection, none of which would seem to apply here. There appears to be no technical problem. You could try contacting them:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/podcast/
though they don't seem to have a good record for detailed helpfulness.

  • How to appeal a podcast rejection? Please help

Hello to all. I recently submitted a podcast to the iTunes directory. It was rejected. here is the note I got from them.
    http://tinypaste.com/79144f8f
I clicked the specks link and it all looked good. In fact I have submitted many podcasts of this nature and the feed validated ok. So how do I get this podcast in to the       store? Who can I talk to and when I try and resubmit the link it says it already has been submitted. A bit of advise would please be nice.
    Thanks all.

If that's the case that make sense; how ever I have 4 or 5 other podcasts up there all that have this kind of stuff. see: ActionCountry tcjwb TGU and SolidGoldSundays all of which are archives of shows we do. so should I try emailing the podcast address you gave and show these as links like I'm doing here? I want to try and reach the widest audience I can and iTunes for me is the best bet.
    thanks and take care..

  • Podcast rejected from IMS - Any help on why?

    http://idisk.me.com/keith_bowden/Public/AuralPleasures.xml
    http://www.auralpleasuresmusic.com/
I submitted that and I just received an email saying it was rejected. Can anyone help as to why? I made some tag changes in Feeder and tried to resubmit but I get an error saying that feed has already been submitted.
Is there a length of time before a feed can be resubmitted?
    Thanks,
    Keith

Interesting but I do not think that is the reason (as there are literally hundreds of similar podcasts in the IMS doing the same thing).
It may well not be - I just offered it as a possibility (it's rather irritating of Apple always to attribute removal to technical reasons, even if it's to do with content). There are as you say lots of podcasts doing it, but it is against copyright law, and it's probably just a question of their not getting noticed.
Do you know any specifics on this "podcasting license" you spoke of earlier?
It's an American thing rather than UK, so I don't know much about it but if you Google it you should come up with some info.

  • Podcast Rejected - Can't find problem

I've submitted this podcast twice. Firstly it was rejected and I assumed it was the images (they were smaller than 1400x1400px).
I corrected it and resubmitted and it's been rejected again.
I have no idea what could be the problem.
The XML file is at: http://glistrr.com/box.xml
Any help would be much appreciated!

You have commercial music in your podcast.
That is against Apples rules and the law.
No RIAA big label music is allowed in podcasts
    Just podsafe music.
Apple will keep rejecting your podcast until you switch to podsafe music

  • Podcast rejected? any hope in getting it back

Got rejected for unknown reasons, recently I did submit a video that may have had some copyrighted marerial in it, but I have since removed that. I have also contacted Apple in hopes of it getting reinstated.
    Do I have a hope in ****

    Heres the response I got:
    Dear Nick,
Thank you for your interest in submitting podcasts to the iTunes Store. I realize how eager you are to have this matter sorted and will gladly assist you today.
I have included some articles and information below that I believe you will find very useful in regards to Podcasts:
At iTunes, we're constantly on the lookout for podcasts that are breaking new ground with this medium, have new or unusual content, or just capture our interest. When we find them, we like to feature them on the Podcasts home page. While there are no sure-fire ways to get your podcast featured (and no, we do not accept payments for promotion), there are some minimum requirements. To be featured by iTunes, podcasts must have:
    1. Attractive, original artwork (the image file referred to in the itunes:image tag) that does not include the iPod or other Apple-branded content.
    2. A robust and accurate description.
    3. Proper language, category, and explicit tagging.
In addition, featured podcasts must be regularly updated with new episodes. We occasionally feature a podcast after its first episode, but we generally like to see podcasts with at least 3 episodes, and we like to see that the most recent episode has been added in the past month. Ideally, the episodes should be released on a regular and predictable basis. More than 100 podcasts are submitted every day, so it is impossible to feature all of the good ones.
You'll find this as well as other useful information on the following webpages:
    Making a Podcast
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/whatson/podcasts/specs.html
    FAQs: For Podcast Makers
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcastingfaq.html
It's easy to submit a podcast for inclusion on the iTunes Store. Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on your computer. You will also need the URL of the podcast you would like to publish.
Once you have the podcast's URL, click the link below. iTunes will start automatically and take you to the Submit a Podcast page on the iTunes Store:
    https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/publishPodcast
Or, you can navigate to this page by following these steps:
    1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website at:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
Note: Installing the latest version of iTunes will not affect your library or any items in your account that you haven't downloaded.
    2) Open iTunes and sign in to the iTunes Store, if necessary.
    3) Click Podcasts in the STORE menu on the left side of the window.
    4) Click the Submit a Podcast image, which you'll find towards the middle of this page.
Note: Apple reviews each podcast submission. Depending on demand, it may take a week or two before your podcast is added.
I trust the above information has helped. If you have any more issues or concerns, please feel free to email back as I like to see our customer's satisfied and enjoying the iTunes Store. Have a great day Nick!
    Sincerely yours,
    Amber
