POF & Invokable

Hi,
I am trying to make all invokable objects in my application POF. However when I call
Map mapQuery = service.query(task, setMembers);
the remote node is getting exceptions. What it looks like is that the client making the call is not sending the invokable object in POF. in fact, I did verify that my writeExernal(PofWriter out) is not getting called. I noticed that the Invokable interface implements Serializable. Is that causing an issue?? The remote node is trying to read in in POF. So my initial question is, should invocation be able to do POF? If so, any ideas as to why this is not working. Here is the stack trace from the remote node.

• Pof Serialization Error leads to partial cache updates in XA Tran

I am using coherence jca adapter to enlist in XA transactions with the database operations. The data is being stored in distributed caches with the cache member running on weblogic server with "Storage disabled". POF is being used for serialization. As a part of a single transaction, multiple caches, which are obtained from the CacheAdapter, are being updated. The application code does explicit updates to the cache and the database within the same transaction with the write to the cache happening after the write the database has been executed.
It is being observed that when an exception happens during the serialization of an object all the cache updates prior to this error are not rolled back. Namely,
I have CacheA for Object A, Cache B for Object B and Cache C for Object C.
I am updating A, B, C with the same transaction and in the same order as the objects are listed. So database for A is updated followed by cache update for A, DataBase B is updated followed by Cache update for B and similarly for C.
If there is an error while serializing C, all the database updates are rolled back, however updates to A and B are committed to the cache.
Why aren't all the cache updates being rolled back ? Has this been fixed already in coherence 3.6.
Thanks,
Shamsur

Hi SR-APX
The problem is that even though you are using the JCA adaptor Coherence (pre-3.6) is not really transactional. Once you commit all that data is still being pushed out to the distributed cluster members who all work independently. An error on one member will not stop data being written successfully to others.
In Coherence 3.6 there are real transactions but you would need to see if the limitations on them fit your use-cases.

• Packaging POF object class in a jar file

I have the following issue packaging a POF class.
I have two POF classes which are defined in the package oracle.communications.activation.asap.ace;
1. Token.java
2. Asdl.java
For simplicity i package them in the coherence.jar along with the other nessary artifacts.
"tokens-pof-config.xml"
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<pof-config xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/coherence/coherence-pof-config"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/coherence/coherence-pof-config coherence-pof-config.xsd">
<user-type-list>
<!-- coherence POF user types -->
<include>coherence-pof-config.xml</include>
<!-- com.tangosol.examples package -->
<user-type>
<type-id>1001</type-id>
<class-name>Token</class-name>
</user-type>
<user-type>
<type-id>1002</type-id>
<class-name>Asdl</class-name>
</user-type>
</user-type-list>
<allow-interfaces>true</allow-interfaces>
<allow-subclasses>true</allow-subclasses>
</pof-config>
Then I startup the CacheServer it startsup fine. However when I invoke the POF classes from my weblogic artifacts I get the following error message.
<Oct 26, 2011 10:04:24 PM PDT> <Warning> <EJB> <BEA-010065> <MessageDrivenBean threw an Exception in onMessage(). The exception was:
(Wrapped) java.io.IOException: unknown user type: oracle.communications.activation.asap.ace.Token.
(Wrapped) java.io.IOException: unknown user type: oracle.communications.activation.asap.ace.Token
======================================================================================================================
If I however define the classes in the default package or no package instead of package oracle.communications.activation.asap.ace;
Keeping everything else the same everything works fine.
====================================================================================
What do I need to do to make this work if I am packaging my POF classes not in the default package ?

Hi JK,
Well i have modified my POF classes since then and now created a package for them before I was just playing around and had them defined in a default package.
Second Baby steps here, once I get things working by packaging things in the coherence.jar file I will create my own jar artifact and add it to class path. As it is I have classpath issues. ...
So as I mentioned earlier.
I created the oracle/communications/activation/asap/ace directory added my two POF classes to it and then repackaged the jar.
It returns this error!
2011-10-27 06:48:03.355/4.696 Oracle Coherence GE 3.6.0.4 <Error> (thread=main, member=1): Error while starting service "DistributedCache": (Wrapped) (Wrapped: error configuring class "com.tangosol.io.pof.ConfigurablePofContext") java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/communications/activation/asap/ace/Token (wrong name: Token)
So any ideas ?

• Coherence POF java.io.NotSerializableException on standalone Webcenter spaces server.

Hi,
I’m using coherence(V3.6.1) with POF serialization in ADF web application. I have setup local coherence server node and Jdev integrated webcenter server in my local system(windows 7 OS), the application works perfectly when I run in local Jdeveloper integrated server. But when I deploy the application on dev environment ( standalone webcenter spaces server v11G on Unix OS) we are getting exception “(Wrapped) java.io.NotSerializableException: com.enbridge.co.ux.coherence.pojos.CommodityPojo”
It seems that POF is not configured properly on the standalone webcenter (spaces) server, please help finding out the solution for this issue. On standalone webcenter spaces server is there any extra configurations we have to do?
The error logs and configuration filess I have used:

OK I have two suggestions.
1. Always create and flush the ObjectOutputStream before creating the ObjectInputStream.
2. Always close the output before you close the input. Actually once you close the output stream both the input stream and the socket are closed anyway so you can economize on this code. In the above you have out..writeObject() followed by input.close() followed by out.close(). Change this to out.writeObject() followed by out.close(). It may be that something needed flushing and the input.close() prevented the flush from happening.

• NullPointerException invoking Processor on Partitioned Cache

Hi all,
We are getting a NullPointerException when trying to invoke an EntryProcessor on Service B, from within EntryProcessor of Service A on a partitioned cache.
The strange thing is that it works fine when there is only one node, but fails when there are one or more nodes. I guess that makes some sense in that there wont be any serialization if there is only one node.
Can anyone suggest what may be causing the problem from the stack trace?

Hi,
Have you tested that your EntryProcessors both serialize and deserialize properly. The last time I saw a stack trace similar to that (yesterday in fact) it was an error desrializing an EntryProcessor. If your code works with a single node then that would point to a serialization issue.
Unit testing all your POF classes is always a good idea...
InvocableMap.EntryProcessor original = ... create the object you want to test ...
ConfigurablePofContext pofContext = new ConfigurablePofContext("... name of your pof config file...");
Binary binary = ExternalizableHelper.toBinary(original, pofContext);
InvocableMap.EntryProcessor result = ExternalizableHelper.fromBinary(binary, pofContext);
... do some assertions to make sure the "result" matches the "original" ...On another note - calling a second EntryProcessor from inside the first EntryProcessor could lead to problems unless you are very careful to avoid thread starvation and cache/service re-entrancy.
JK

• Getting "invalid type: 169" errors when using POF with Push Replication

I'm trying to get Push Replication - latest version - running on Coherence 3.6.1. I can get it working fine if I don't use POF with my objects, but when trying to use POF format for my objects I get this:

It seems to be loading my POF configuration file - which also includes the standard Coherence ones as well as those required for PR - just fine, as you can see at the top of the trace.
Any ideas why POF format for my objects is giving this error (NB. I've tested the POF stuff outside of PR and it all works fine.)
EDIT: I've tried switching the "publisher" to the "file" publisher in PR. And that works fine. I see my POF format cached data extracted and published to the directory I specify. So the "publish" part seems to work when I use a file-publisher.

Hi Neville,
I don't pass any POF config parameters on the command-line. My POF file is called "pof-config.xml" so seems to be picked up by default. The trace I showed in my post shows the file being picked up.
My POF config file content is as follows:

• Running a task locally or invoking it once

Hi,
I want to run a quartz job on the entries of my cache deleting them if they apply to some constraint. I guess I can do that in 2 ways:
1. run the quartz job on only 1 node which will call cache.invokeAll(filter, myProcessor). This node will send the entryProcessor to the other nodes that contain the relevant data.
Question: How can I make sure a quartz job is run on only one node as all nodes are running the same code and use the same configuration? I don't want to specify the same quartz job an all nodes because then the job would be invoked once for each node. Do I need to define some sort of election policy for that? Or are there better ways to handle a similar situation where only one node of a cluster needs to trigger some action?
2. run the quartz job on all nodes of the cluster. Each job will call cache.invokeAll(new KeyAssociatedFilter(filter), myProcessor) on every node. This will make sure the entryProcessor will only be executed on the own node's data. Will this work?
Best regards

Jan,
could you please describe your eviction criteria? If you want to remove the entries, then removing it by cache.removeAll() is the fastest approach, and for local only keys it automatically knows not to send to remote nodes, so you don't need the partition filter there.
On the other hand, as you described your eviction criteria in an earlier post to require decision on the content of the entire cache, in which case the prefiltering should not have a partitioned filter.
If your eviction criteria is the following: evict the number of keys from each category as the number of the surplus entries in the category, then PartitionFilter is not something you would want to use.
Instead, you can first do an aggregation on the count of keys in each category to find out the number of keys to be removed. This can easily be done by a GroupAggregator and a Count:
categorySizesByDiscriminator = cache.aggregate(GroupAggregator.createInstance("getCategoryDiscriminator", new Count()));where getCategoryDiscriminator is the name of the method (parentheses intentionally missing) which returns a different value for each category (was it getColor? ).
After this you know how many entries the surplus is.
You can now send a custom parallel aggregation which returns as many keys as the surplus from the category is from each node and throws away the unnecessary from the result (this is necessary because of the arbitrary distribution of the entries), something like this:

• Handling Enums in the Equals filter using POF

Can someone point to how to handle enums in a grid that is setup to use POF serialization (3.4) and equals filter.
When objects are serialized, we are serializing Enums as integers. However, When trying to use an Equals filter to search for objects with by an enum value, we are not getting a result back. The only way we found so far, is to create a getter that returns an integer value of an enum. Is there another way?

the EqualsFilter invokes either a getter method or an extractor.
If you have a getter method which returns the ordinal as an int value, then you can use the EqualsFilter with the ordinal of the enum to search for passed in to its parameter.
However, if you have a getter returning the enum value, I believe, it fails by default because the EqualsFilter containing the enum value to search for can not be serialized. However, you can still make that work, but in this case you have to create a custom serializer for the enum type (or the java.lang.Enum class, if <allow-subclasses> is enabled in the POF configuration). This will allow Coherence to serialize and deserialize the enum value contained in the EqualsFilter over POF, which otherwise may not be supported by the default configuration.
Once the enum type can be serialized, the EqualsFilter with the getter method returning an enum value will work fine, too.

Can anyone please help me with this error.

I checked my server (which has all the default Adobe services) and the only service I have that comes close is:
the Repository service's "Read Resource Content" operation. In the list that comes up as RepositoryService.
The Barcode's Extract to XML service. In the list that comes up as BarcodedFormsService
Neither of these is an exact match to the error. Is your process calling a sub process you built? Does that service actually exist on the server? If you do a record/playback (in workbench) on which step does the process fail?
If you look through the entire list of SOAP services (in Adminui) are any of them disabled?

• Error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from Oracle BPEL..

Hi ,
We are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).
For the BPEL process we are following the same steps as given in an AMIS blog : - [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1607/how-to-call-a-ws-security-secured-web-service-from-oracle-bpel]
but sttill,after deploying it and passing values in it,we are getting the following error on the console :-
“Header [http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing:Action] for ultimate recipient is required but not present in the message”
Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Saurabh

Hi James,
Thanks for the quick reply.
We've tried to call that web service from an HTML designed in Visual Studios with the same username and password and its working fine.
But on the BPEL console, we are getting the error as mentioned.
Also if you can tell me how to set the user name and password in the header of the parter link.I could not find how to do it.
Thanks,
Saurabh

• "Error 7 occurred at Invoke Node..." when attempting to open .vi for editing

I am attempting to open a vi for editing, and instead the vi is attempting to execute. I get the error:
"Error 7 occurred at Invoke Node in BuildTargetBuildSpecification.vi->BuildXFS.vi"
Possible reason(s): LabVIEW: File not found. The file might have been moved or deleted, or the file path might be incorrectly formatted for the operating system. For example, use \ as path separators on Windows, : on Mac OS, and / on Linux. Verify that the path is correct using the command prompt or file explorer.
Method Name: Project: Open
When I close the Error Message dialog, Labview terminates.

Hi R.Jay,
Error 7 generally occurs when trying to create an executable when there is an extra instance of a top-level vi. You may need to remove the file as a support file (but leave it as the top level vi).
Are you trying to run an executable that has already been created? Unless you have already built an executable, it should not automatically run when opened. Also, was it built in a previous version of LabVIEW? Sometimes this error can be seen when you upgrade to a newer version without compiling.

• Mapping/invoking key codes in a GameCanvas's main game loop.

I'm trying to bind some diagonal sprite movement methods to the keypad. I already know that I have to map out the diagonals to key codes since key states only look out for key presses in the upper half of the phone (d-pad, soft buttons, etc...). Problem is, how do I invoke them in the main game loop since a key state can be encapsulated in a method and piped through the loop? What makes this even worst is a bug that my phone maker's game API (Siemens Game API for MIDP 1.0, which is their own implementation of the MIDP 2.0 Game API) has, in which if I override the keyPressed, keyReleased, or keyRepeated methods, it will always set my key states to zero, thus I can't move the sprite at all. Also, it seems that my phone's emulator automatically maps key states to 2, 4, 6, and 8, so my only concern is how do I map the diagonal methods into 1, 3, 7, and 9, as well as invoking them in the main game loop? Enclosed is the example code that I've been working on as well as the link to a thread in the Siemens (now Benq Mobile) developer's forum about the bug's discovery:
http://agathonisi.erlm.siemens.de:8080/jive3/thread.jspa?forumID=6&threadID=15784&messageID=57992#57992

Okay...you lost me...I thought that's what I was doing?
If you mean try hitTestPoint ala this:
wally2.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, letsSee);
function letsSee(event:Event)
// create a for loop to test each array item hitting wally...
for (var i:Number=0; i<iceiceArray.length; i++)
// if you don't hit platform...
if (wally2.hitTestPoint(iceiceArray[i].x, iceiceArray[i].y, false)) {
wally2.y -= 5;}
return;
That's not working either.
