Policy Managed RAC database instance on different node

Dear All,
Recently we have upgrade our production database from 2 node 11.2.0.1/Solaris 10 Sparc to 2 node 12.1.0.2/Solaris 11.2 Sparc
earlier was Admin managed database, now we have created Policy managed database.
Instance_1 running on node_2
Instnace_2 running on node_1
how to switch the instance to correct node or what is the concept , why it running vice versa even though assign ORACLE_SID properly.
please clarify me.
oracle@zhovm-proddb2:/u01/app/12.1.0.2/grid/bin$ srvctl status database -d proddb
Instance proddb_1 is running on node zhovm-proddb2
Instance proddb_2 is running on node zhovm-proddb1
Thanks.

Thanks.

I don't know what your cron jobs do. If (for example) they logon to the database through a service published by the scan listeners, they will be happy. If they logon using a deterministic connect string, you have a problem - a problem caused by mis-using the system.

  • Running OWB on 6 RAC databases on 4 shared nodes

    Hi everyone!
    I was wondering if anyone can help with a question I have around multiple OWB installations on RAC?
    Background:
    We are migrating 6 independent data warehouses / data marts onto one Exadata box. This machine has got 4 nodes, across which we will run 6 separate databases using RAC. Each database will span across all 4 nodes, and each of the databases will contain one of the independent data mart / data warehouses.
    We understand that we will probably need to run 6 separate control center services on each node, and that there may need to be some fiddling around with log file names to get them all to start properly.
    However; the question is where to install the OWB binaries!?
    In our understanding, we need one set of OWB binaries per database, i.e. 6 in total. The actual databases will be run from just one set of local Oracle Database binaries on each RAC node, which means only four database binaries in total will be used to run 6 RAC databases across our 4 nodes.
    Problem is, this means that there won't be enough OWB binaries to go around!! (6-4 = 2 missing!)
    One alternative is to have 6 Oracle homes on each RAC node, i.e. one home per RAC database. I'm not a RAC expert - maybe this is even the preferred way of setting up the databases, regardless if we use OWB or not?
    Comments / suggestions would be much appreciated!
    Cheers

    Hi,
    We also have a 6 node rac where we settes up owb.
    We went through a whole lot of problems but got it running finally(with service failover).
    Basically you will need the binaries on all 4 of your physical nodes.
    For the first node you can run through the normal installation (repository setu).
    Thab you need to start the repository assistant on all other nodes in ordr to register them.
    There are a lot of pitfalls with that installation and a lack od docunentation.
    We've written an onstallation guide for an OWB rac setup where with we have now setted up 9 OWB repositories spreaded over 2 racs.
    Just let me know if you require detailed information - maybe we can share our guide.

  • Database instance in different host, ECC 6.0 installation

    Hello All,
    i want to install ABAP distributed system (ECC 6.), unfortunately in step Database instance installation i got only one option  - local host name. I need to put database to other server...
    Does anybody has experience with distribiuted ECC 6.0 ABAP system installation? How can i distribute sap instance and DB instance to different servers (sapinst is not offer this option, only for java systems)?
    Thanks a lot.

    Thank you very much Michael,
    your advise resoved my problem, after using sapinst with parameter " DB host name" instalation of DB instance executed correctly. In default.pfl file i have now as SAPGLOBALNAME db host name.
    I am facing at the moment with other problem during db instalation:
    FCO-00011  The step doGrantServiceRights with step key
    FSL-06002  Error 1060 (The specified service does not exist as an installed service.) in execution of a 'SyWinGetSecurityDescriptor' function, line (1296), with parameter (Error in getting security descriptor for 'MSSQLSERVER' NT service).
    Is it known problem to you? if so, how did you resolve it?

  • Multiple oracle database instances with different characterset on  the same server

    Hello,
    Is it possible to have 2 database instances running with different charactersets,one with AL32UTF8 and the other with WE8MSWIN1252.?
    Are there any setup requirements to be performed prior to setting up the database instances?
    The 3rd party utility that we want to use does not support AL32UTF8 and insists on using a database with character set WE8MSWIN1252.
    Kindly help.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

    Hello Zhe,
    I guess I posted my question in a wrong forum.  I tried my best to find a suitable forum and thought this was the best and closest I found.  Apparently not.  Can you please let me know the right forum for my question?
    The below is the breif of what we are currently facing:
    We are in the process of finalizing plans to install Automic for our Retail applications to schedule jobs.  In the process came to know that Automic does not support AL32UTF8.
    Right now we have RMS and UC4 (now called Automic) run on the database server as UC4 supports AL32UTF8 and schema for UC4 is inside the RMS database.
    Going forward it is recommended to have a separate database instance on the same server as that of RMS database and with a different characterset which is WE8MSWIN1252.
    Please let me know what forum to post in, I will repost the question.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

  • 10g RAC database: instances fail after a few days...

    Im afraid I'm new to Oracle, so assume total ignorance when replying!
    We have two servers, db1 and db2 running Oracle under Windows 2K3 web edition [SP1].
    Both have a shared Direct Attached Storage disk, over a Scsi fibre connection.
    The database is set up using instructions found online for RAC.
    Either instance will stop, and the other will take over, after a few days. The problem is, we aren't using the database yet. [There isn't a problem with it, the development people have checked that they can use the database.]
    The two errors [found using the EM console] which seem to be relevant are:
    'Metrics "Database Time Spent Waiting (%)" is at 100 for event class "other"'
    and 'Failed to connect to database instance ... TNS no listener'.
    [Which is obvioulsly the failure]
    I have scoured the web, and the rather dense reference books for Oracle I have access to, and to no avail.
    Another contributing factor is the 'WMI Performance Adaptor' stops and starts on both machines every thirty seconds.
    Any response/guidlines/advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Apologies if I have started this thread in the wrong place!

  • Multiple databases/instances on 4-node RAC Cluster including Physical Stand

    OS: Windows 2003 Server R2 X64
    DB: 10.2.0.4
    Virtualization: NONE
    Node Configuration: x64 architecture - 4-Socket Quad-Core (16 CPUs)
    Node Memory: 128GB RAM
    We are planning the following on the above-mentioned 4-node RAC cluster:
    Node 1: DB1 with instanceDB11 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
    Node 2: DB1 with instanceDB12 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
    Node 3: DB1 with instanceDB13 (Active-Passive: Failover only) + DB2 with instanceDB21 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB3 with instanceDB31 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB4 with instance41 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
    Node 4: DB1 with instanceDB14 (Active-Passive: Failover only) + DB2 with instanceDB22 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB3 with instanceDB32 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover) + DB4 with instance42 (Active-Active: Load-balancing & Failover)
    Note: DB1 will be the physical primary PROD OLTP database and will be open in READ-WRITE mode 24x7x365.
    Note: DB2 will be a Physical Standby of DB1 and will be open in Read-Only mode for reporting purposes during the day-time, except for 3 hours at night when it will apply the logs.
    Note: DB3 will be a Physical Standby of a remote database DB4 (not part of this cluster) and will be mounted in Managed Recovery mode for automatic failover/switchover purposes.
    Note: DB4 will be the physical primary Data Warehouse DB.
    Note: Going to 11g is NOT an option.
    Note: Data Guard broker will be used across the board.
    Please answer/advise of the following:
    1. Is the above configuration supported and why so? If not, what are the alternatives?
    2. Is the above configuration recommended and why so? If not, what are the recommended alternatives?

    Hi,
    As far as i understand, there's nothing wrong in configuration except you need to consider below points while implementing final design.
    1. No of CPU on each servers
    2. Memory on each servers
    3. If you've RAC physical standby then apply(MRP0) will run on only one instance.
    4. Since you are configuring physical standby for on 3rd and 4th nodes of DB1 4 node cluster where DB13 and DB14 instances are used only for failver, if you've a disaster at data center or power failure in entire data center, you are losing both primary and secondary with an assumption that your primary and physical standby reside in same data center so it may not be highly available architecture. If you are going to use extended RAC for this configuration then it makes sense where Node 1 and Node 2 will reside in Datacenter A and Node 3 ,4 will reside in Datacenter B.
    Thanks,

    Before the import starts there is a script which bringds down the database, puts into no archive log mode, starts the database up and kicks the import. Once import is done, it will again bring down the db, put it in archive log and start the entire db.
    This works perfectly on everyday other than weekends (fri or sat..we are in middle east - Dubai). Over the weekend, the db goes down, put it in no archive log and when it tries to bring up the db, about 2 or 3 instances fail to come up with

  • Database instance on one node

    Hi
    Suppose i have two nodes in my RAC.
    Is it possible to have two differents instances of database in one of my node ?
    I mean for example, one instance for the test schema and one for the production schema ??
    Thanks for answer

    Hi
    I agree with you except that for the moment, we don't know if we can handle to buy one production RAC and one test RAC.
    So do u think having a production RAC and further dedicated test server can be a solution ?
    Sometimes, we have to put test data to the same level than production data.
    Today, we use snapshots with our bay, so it's very easy to populate a test server with fresh data.
    But rac means to use OCFS, Raw devices or ASM. And our test database don't use any of this storage type. It's just simple datafiles on JFS file system.
    So i asking myself how it is possible to save all objects of an instance cluster and duplicate it to our test database server ??

  • Oracle 9i Upgrade to 10g - Single Database instances to RAC

    Hi,
    We are considering migrating from single SAP database architecture into
    an Oracle 10g RAC architecture. The question i have is:
    Are multiple PHYSICAL databases supported in one Oracle 10g RAC environment? For example, Is it possible to install and operate multiple databases in one single ORACLE 10g Real Application Cluster such as one SAP R/3 database, one SAP EBP and one
    SAP BW database co-exist in a single Oracle RAC environment?
    Regards,
    Chengappa Ballachanda

    Hi Sairam,
    Due to the size of our Production environments we have decided not to pursue the MCOD option.
    Eg: Take a QA environment which consists of SRM and BW and we have multiple nodes with both installed on each node. Now if I were to go the MCOD option then these instances can connect to one large Oracle File System using different schema's.
    What I'm trying to establish is in that one RAC, is it possible to have the multiple database instances on each node (SRM, BW etc) connect to multiple Oracle File Systems ie SRM connect to its own OFS and BW to its own instead of the one large shared OFS?
    Hope this makes sense! Easier if I could upload a diagram!
    Regards,
    Chengappa

  • RAC database Migration

    Hi Experts,
    I need some advice related to the Migration of RAC database, we have to migrate several RAC & Single-Instance databases from existing HP Itanium servers to Superdome2.
    Initially I thought of going with "addnode" for new Servers as additional Nodes to the existing RAC database then remove old Nodes for RAC databases migration, but there are some limitations in our evironment,
    1. There are no free IP addresses available to assign to new nodes from the existing IP segment.
    The IP Range (1 - 255) is divided into into several small segments of 16 IPs in each segment, and the segment in which the existing 2Node RAC DB is completely occupied and there is no free IP Available.
    If the new Node have IPs addresses from different segment in the same Subnet(IP Range) can it be added to the existing cluster?
    and if we cannot find any IP in that Subnet then can the nodes with the IPs from other Subnet be added to the Existing Cluster?
    2. To add a node to the existing RAC cluster, the new node should be exactly same, OS version, OS Patches...
    Our existing rx Itanium servers have "*HP-UX 11.31 Mission Critical Operating Environment*" for One 2 Node RAC Cluster and "*HP-UX 11.31 Enterprise Operating Environment*" for for another 2 Node RAC Cluster, but the HP Superdome 2 will have the Latest "*HP-UX 11.31 Data Center Operating Environment*"
    Can we proceed if there are some diferrences in OS patches...?
    Please see the Existing Environment Details below:*

    Hardware: HP SUperdome 2
    OS: HP-UX 11.31Data Center Operating Environment
    DB Version: Oracle 11.2.0.3 (2 Node RAC)
    Also, all the 3 RAC databases are in Extended/Stretch RAC Cluster configuration and the new Superdome Env will also be in Extended RAC Cluster Configuration.
    Kindly advice what strategy should I follow for the Migration, waiting for your kind reply.
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.

    I am struck by your post with a couple of thoughts.
    1. Even though high availability appears to be something you are willing to invest substantial money in obtaining ... no one think patching important.
    2. Even though you've spent a substantial sum of money on hardware and software ... no one thinks networking important enough to address the lack of appropriate network infrastructure.
    Personally: I'd advise refusing to do the work until management makes the very small investment necessary to doing it correctly.

    I am currently working on backup policy for RAC Database for my client.The client requirement is to backup while database is shutdown(mount state).I have made below script and could any one please suggest what further things should I need to add with below rman script.
    echo "Shutdown Database";date
    srvctl stop database -d PROD
    srvctl status database -d PROD
    echo "Database shutdown on";date
    echo "Mount Database ";date
    srvctl start instance -d PROD -i "PROD1" -o mount
    srvctl status database -d PROD
    echo "Start Full Database Backup on";date
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target / nocatalog <<EOF
    configure controlfile autobackup on;
    configure controlfile autobackup format for device type disk to '/BACKUP/PRODBKP/%F';
    run{
    allocate channel c1 device type disk connect 'sys/******@node1-vip:1521/PROD';
    allocate channel c2 device type disk connect 'sys/*****@node2-vip:1521/PROD';
    backup format '/BACKUP/PRODBKP/PROD_df_%t_%s_%p.bak'(database);
    backup format '/BACKUP/PRODBKP/archive_%t_%s_%p.bak' archivelog all;
    copy current controlfile to '/BACKUP/PRODBKP/PROD.ctl';
    delete noprompt obsolete;
    release channel c1;
    release channel c2;
    exit
    EOF
    echo "RMAN Backup Finished on";date
    echo "Shutdown Database";date
    srvctl stop database -d PROD
    echo "Start Database";date
    srvctl start database -d PROD
    srvctl status database -d PROD
    Please share your experiences.
    Regards

    Hi,
    Some tweaks for your script.
    echo "Shutdown Database";date
    srvctl stop database -d PROD
    srvctl status database -d PROD
    echo "Database shutdown on";date
    echo "Mount Database ";date
    srvctl start instance -d PROD -i "PROD1" -o mount1. If you database does not shutdown properly , does your script stops the execution of next step?
    2. configure controlfile autobackup on;
    configure controlfile autobackup format for device type disk to '/BACKUP/PRODBKP/%F';(Why you need to configure this every time) ?
    It's persistent at db level one time setting (until some other script changes the settings by other dba - else remove that - set the configuration at db level once for all)
