Pop up Javascript + Flash
I have a doubt in a syntax error, somebody can help me?
The script is:
on(release){
getURL("javascript:void(window.open('
http://www.flashmasters.com.br','FlashMasters',
'width=800,height=600,top='+(window.screen.height/2-600/2)+',left='+(window.screen.width/2 -800/2)+'
,scrollbars=yes,toolbar=no,menubar=no,status=no,location=no,resizable=no'))");
My e-mail: [email protected]
thanks
Are you attempting to use javascript to open a file?
I just want to make sure I understand....
If that is what you want to achieve, try this
getURL"javascript:NewWindow=window.open('somefile.html','newWin','fullscreen=Yes');NewWind ow.focus();void(0);");
Hope this helps

Javascript flash intercommunication.
Hi All,
I am a new to flash. Hence i am not sure how to ask these
questions. But let me try my best.
I have to actually show a banner ad after a flash movie has
been completed.
The banner ad is currently served using javascript.
Here are the questions:
1. I need to know somehow that flash movies is complete. Is
there a way i can from javascript figure out that the flash movie
has ended? I understand that i can call javascript function from
ActionScript. I don't have have control over flash code, then what
is the right way to identify the completion of flash.
2. Is it possible to detect click on the flash component and
pass control to javascript. Again without embeding any code in to
flash. That is, will the click on the flash bubble up to the HTML
container holding it?
3. Is it possible to force completion of flash movie from
javascript?
4. What is the platform support for javascript flash
intercommunication. I don't see Linux in the support list.
5. If i cannot do away without having hooks in the flash
code, please point me to best practices and other articles that's
there.
6. What the are points that has to be kept in mind while
doing this?
Currently our banner ads render fine in most browsers and in
most of the platforms. So i need the support on Major browsers and
platforms.
Any pointers or information in this regard will he very
helpful.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Vijay.Hi folks,
I haven't got any response. Did i ask something very silly or
am i asking in the wrong forum? I need information for evaluation.
Response even to any one question will be very useful. Any leads
will also be great. If what i have asked in not feasible kindly let
me know.
Cheers,
Vijay -
After around 30min of having FF open when I close a tab a message pops up:
Javascript application
Unable to clean current element: TypeError: can't access dead object
OK
It randomly stops showing the message for periods of about 30 min.hello MichaelStevens, this is very likely caused by one of your addons (maybe one which is performing a certain action every 30mins).

IE8 Error when opening Pop-up with Flash Content
I am running into a problem creating a webpage. I am very new to AS3 and not quite a novice at Dw CS3. I have audio files and flash content that is downloadable from my page. The audio is made available by clicking on a flash button that links to an mp3 or wav file. The player then opens and plays the file. I also created some flash animations that are accessed by flash buttons I also created and put on my webpage. I added scripting (AS3) for those buttons that defines a pop-up window size and points to an html page to put into the pop-up window. I'm really not sure if this script is the most efficient. It probably isn't. The script is below: (Note: I could not paste it in so I retyped it. Don't know why, but the script works even though there might be syntax errors below.)
//define variable "jscommand" that has URL to open and pop-up window parameters
var jscommand:String="window.open('Multiplication.html,'miniwindow','height=440,width=605,toolbar=yes,scrollbar=no');";
//define variable "openflashURL" which runs "jscommand"
var openflashURL:URLRequest("javascript"+jscommand+"void(0);");
//define function "openflashdown" that initiates URL request
function openflashdown(Event:MouseEvent):void{
NavigateToURL(openflashURL,"_self"};
//define button listener
Mult_FlashPlayer_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,openflashdown);
The problem is as follows: When I click on the flash buttons that use the above script, I get a pop-up window with the .swf in it and everything runs fine. Next, when I click on an audio button, the mp3 file downloads and the player (Real) begins to play it. But if I try to open up the flash animation again I get this error message from IE8 "Unspecified Error Internet Explorer cannot download".
I tried to find anwsers on-line and I found another person with a similar problem. Their solution was to take the javascript code out of the flash button coding and put it in the html page directly. I took the first line on code in the above and put it in the html code. Dw did not recognize it as code but as text. I don't know where to go from here. Does anyone know what to do? I'm a beginner so please be as clear as you can be.Try uninstalling your sound card driver in Device Manager and reboot your PC.

Deep mysteries of javascript/Flash
I have a menu system which employs both Flash and a
javascript popout. See it here:
www.embracethefuture.org.au/test.
Clicking an item in the flash menu calls a javascript function to
open the relevant pop-out menu. Whent he user's mouse moves out of
the menu area, the menu is hidden by js, then a callback is made to
Flash to reset the appearance of the menu (the illuminated white
arrow has to go back to yellow). It works just fine and dandy in
Mozilla etc, and I'm pretty sure it was working in IE6, but in IE7,
Flash cannot add the callback function. I get a javascript error
that there is no such element as 'sidemenu'. I thought it might
have to do with the fact that the flash content is written in by
javascript (to avoid the need to activate controls), but the error
still occurs when I hard code the flash.
I'm not posting any Actionscript or Javascript because I am
almost certain there is no fault there. I was wondering if any guru
out there knows of this problem with Javascript callbacks in IE7
and a solution to it.I solved this. The problem was that I had converted to
ASP.NET and the flash was embedded in a server form, which created
problems for IE. I found a workaround. Cheers. -

Fixed size browser window pop-up from flash?
Hi there... I'm finishing off a flash website for a band and
I've created a little music player that's 380 x 250 pixels...
There's a "launch music player" button in my site and when pple
click on it, I'd like the music player (which is a flash file
embedded in an html file) to pop up in it's own little browser
window. I know how to make normal full size windows pop up (by
using the: getURL("location", "_blank").... function) but I need a
browser window that doesn't scroll and isn't resizeable, with a
fixed size of 380 x 250 to pop up. I know how to do this in HTML
(dreamweaver), but not in flash - can anyone help?
MalUsing the getURL function you can call a specific javascript
function where you can create a new window with specific size:
getURL('javascript:FUNCTION();');
Cheers,

I have Adobe Flash player 9 or higher (I ran your scan-You have version 9,0,45,0 installed) and it always works with Internet Explorer emails BUT every time I click to open incoming email I get a pop up "need to install flash 9 or higher". What can I do? Can I get rid of it? It only happens in internet mail.
PatVisit [http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ this Adobe page] with both browsers to update your Flash version; Firefox uses a different install than IE, so having one doesn't mean you have the other.
-
Why am I know having such difficulty streaming movies, it constantly stopping to upload,, pretty frustrating. There a also pop ups that have started to come up " Adobe Flash Settings "Some go away when I click deny, others I need to leave the site because deny won't shut it.
Blacklist the site. The Flash popups are probably attempts to download malware.
Do not get Flash from anywhere other than Adobe themselves. -
offtopic javascript + flash
the evil content people are asking me evil questions which i must direct to you:
is it possible for a flash file embedded on a page to call a javascript function?
does flash even know about the page it is executing in?
the problem is that certain links need to popup a div that asks the user "do you want to leave this page?". we have that fully working using javascript, but the links on the flash are not triggering our JS.
let the flames begin!You need to adjust your allowscriptaccess tag, at the least.
And it's certainly possible that we missed something. If you can
repro after reading the following then please open a support case.
Do read "Security changes in Flash Player 9" (

Javascript, Flash and Bookmarks
We are using Captivate 8 to create our courses. On slide 3 through 12 I have one web object per slide which brings up a web page containing a streaming video player that points at a video hosting company that we rent space on. Our website is hosting the HTML containing the steaming video player used for each slide.
On each of these slides (3 through 12) I have some JavaScript (upon page load) which is trying to set the suspend data and making sure that the current slide is being bookmarked. I have tried calling the suspend data call and even the set Bookmark call and both have the same results: Nothing happens.
I am testing it out on a PC running Flash and am using Fiddler to watch the transactions. Once the videos have started (starting on slide 3), I do not detect any activity to update the bookmark information going back to our LMS.
Once the student is past all of the slides containing the video web objects, then the bookmarking seems to start working correctly again.
It appears that Captivate is converting the slides to a Flash Movie with iframes used to display the video itself. But it appears that while the flash movie is playing the slides with the videos, no communication goes on between the course and the LMS.
The videos on each slide is only about 5 to 10 minute long.
We are having more and more students who get somewhere past the 3rd video slide and then their session times out for some reason (usually inactivity) but when they attempt to restart the course, they taken back to the first video slide again.
We are not ready to go exclusively HTML5, so I need our bookmarking to work with the Flash-version of our course.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
ThanksI have used 2 different approaches and neither one seems to work.
The first was:
/* Calling a self-invoked function to not pollute the global scope and immediately destroy the scope chain */
(function(){
var KeepItActive = {
checkComms: function() {
this.showConsoleLogs = 'no';
try {
this.currSetExitResult = SCORM2004_CallSetValue("cmi.exit", SCORM2004_SUSPEND);
if (this.showConsoleLogs == 'yes') {
console.log("Result is type of " + typeof this.currSetExitResult);
console.log("Set Exit to Susspend worked = " + this.currSetExitResult);
if (this.currSetExitResult || this.currSetExitResult == 'true' ) {
this.currSlideName = SCORM2004_GetBookmark();
if (this.showConsoleLogs == 'yes') {
console.log("Current Slide Name = " + this.currSlideName);
} else {
if (this.showConsoleLogs == 'yes') {
console.log("Set Exit to Susspend Failed");
} catch (err) { //otherwise assume failed.
if (this.showConsoleLogs == 'yes') {
console.log("The Catch of the try-catch feature was activated");
KeepItActive.checkComms();
The second was:
/* Calling a self-invoked function to not pollute the global scope and immediately destroy the scope chain */
(function(){
var KeepItActive = {
resetBookmarks: function() {
try {
var strBookmark = null;
var callReturn = null;
strBookmark = this.SCORM2004_GetBookmark();
callReturn = this.SCORM2004_SetBookmark(strBookmark);
} catch (err) { //otherwise assume failed.
if (this.showConsoleLogs == 'yes') {
console.log("The Catch of the try-catch feature was activated");
SCORM2004_GetBookmark: function () {
SCORM2004_ClearErrorInfo();
return SCORM2004_CallGetValue("cmi.location");
SCORM2004_SetBookmark: function(strBookmark) {
SCORM2004_ClearErrorInfo();
return SCORM2004_CallSetValue("cmi.location", strBookmark);

Grey "Character" pop up window flashing intermittently over everything?
Hi
I was drafting an email earlier and I clicked on the "Edit" menu option and then on the "Special Characters" option in the dropdown menu. The pop up window containing the Special Characters options did not open, instead a grey pop up window of the same size began to flash intermittently on whatever screen or program I am using. The timer is visible in the centre of the screen and the word "Characters" is visible at the top of the window...
I tried a restart but it did not solve it.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.
DHi Tom
I just want to say thank you very much for solving my Mac issue.
My first mac was bought as a present from NJ when I was over visiting my girlfriends Mother, Thanksgiving 2008.
I live in Ireland where we have no Mac Store : ( I am always concerned that something like yesterday's issue would arise (thankfully this was the first time).
Sure, we have approved service agents etc but there is nothing like the reassurance of walking into a Mac Store for your appointment with an expert, that is, until yesterday when I realised the power of the Apple Support Communities.
People like you give non techie Mac lovers a great peace of mind and freedom to enjoy the experience safe in the knowledge that we have somewhere to turn if we get stuck!
Again I am very grateful.
