POP UP LOV vs Select List

If I do this as a select list then the user can select the friendly value and the column will be updated with the
columnid. When they select the display value it is reflected on the screen as such, the display value
select mycolumn d, columnid r
from mytable
order by 1;
If I do the same as a Pop UP LOV the user can select the friendly display value and when they do
the text field is populated with the columid, the return value and not the display value. How can I use
a Pop up LOV and when the user selects the display value have that reflected on the users screen. I want to use the Pop Up LOV so that the user can search through possible values.
Thanks
Steve

  • LOV single selection list is not working in my JDeveloper 10.1.2.3

    Hi!
    I'm stumped with this. I'm also new to JDeveloper. I used the sample tutorial from the OTN website entitled "JSPDataBoundLists.jws" to learn how to create drop-down lists in JDeveloper.
    My problem is I created a single selection list LOV from DepartmentListView Data Control and pasted it into an EmployeesView Input form. This is so I can just select the Department names to populate the DepartmentID field in Employees table. I setup the data binding in the UI Model of my jsp using the "List Binding Editor". I checked the UIModel file and it looks as follows:
    <DCControl
    id="DepartmentId2"
    SubType="DCListSingleSel"
    IterBinding="EmployeesViewIterator"
    DTClass="oracle.adf.dt.objects.JUDTCtrlListLOV"
    ApplyValidation="false"
    isDynamic="false"
    ListOperMode="0"
    ListIter="DepartmentsListViewIterator" >
    <AttrNames>
    <Item Value="DepartmentId" />
    </AttrNames>
    <ListAttrNames>
    <Item Value="DepartmentId" />
    </ListAttrNames>
    <ListDisplayAttrNames>
    <Item Value="DepartmentName" />
    </ListDisplayAttrNames>
    </DCControl>
    I run the jsp, selected a value from the drop-down list, do a submit and do a commit, but the DepartmentId from the DepartmentsListView was not stored in Employees. What is wierd here is that there is an exact same single selection list defined a row above mine which is working fine. How come that one is working and mine is not?

    Eureka! I finally found the answer to my own question!
    This simple problem of adding a drop-down list into a jsp page cost me 3 whole days (around 24 full working hours) to find the answer. Normally it only takes me a few minutes with the other web app languages I've learned. And I just stumbled into the answer just a few minutes ago (maybe all thanks should be given to God whom let me stumble into the answer since me and my wife have been praying for several weeks now ever since I started trying to learn Oracle JDeveloper. It is really very very difficult and time consuming to learn compared to other web app languages and tools).
    Anyway, the reason why my LOV does not work in my jsps using JDeveloper 10.1.2.3 is because JDeveloper 10.1.2.3 seems to allow only one input-form-element for the same field of the input table!
    For example, what happened to me was I had an input form created for the Employees table in the HR schema. I did this simply by drag-and-drop from the "Data Control Palette". This feature I like very much with JDeveloper. It is really easy and works instantly. And then, I drag-and-drop the departmentname field from the Departments table as a "single selection list" into the jsp and setup its bindings. So when I run the jsp, viola! The drop-down list does not populate the DepartmentId field of the Employees table. IT DOES NOT WORK! I've tried reinstalling both JDev and Oracle db and JDKs to no avail! I tried posting in this forum to no avail! I tried experimenting with newly created jsps to no avail! Then suddenly after repeatedly experimenting on this on different tutorials, guides and my own web app, it works! Why did it work? It was because I tried to add an LOV-single-selection-list on another sample tutorial with a READ-ONLY FORM on the jsp! Thus only the LOV is the input-form-element in the jsp for the table's field.
    So why can't you find such a simple and basic fact anywhere in the web, the tutorials, guides or the forum? I do not know. Maybe only I am using such an old version of JDev? But what about the users who used it when it just got out a couple of years ago? Didn't they have the same problem? Anyway, it seems like the answer to a lot of my simple basic questions about JDeveloper is not documented, or is buried very deep beneath all the other words of all these documents. Hopefully JDeveloper's documentations would get a lot easier to use very very soon!

  • DYNAMIC LOV FOR SELECT LIST

    hi to all,
    i've a question regarding lov query based select list:
    For a certain user i need that the lov display a list
    if app_user = BACK_OFFICE I NEED THAT ther query on wich is populated the
    select list is qry 1.
    if app_user is another (consultant) i need query 2 for populating the select list
    1) select name|| ' ' || fname D, id K from partner
    2) select name|| ' ' || fname D, id K from partner WHERE UNAME=(:APP_USER)
    Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
    Another solution would be to have 2 different apps (one for back-office, one for external consultant), but there i should always duplicate all changes to the second one, loosing a lot of time.
    Now thinking as well to use hidden fields.
    If not clear enough please ask me.
    Thanx a lot.

    I think one solution wold be to create two different named querys, one containing query 1 and the second query 2. Than u must create an Application Item(like a session variable) in wich u will store you condition. If you want to use the app_user variable u allready have it so you don't need to create it any more. On your page where u want to display the different select list u create two items, one with the query 1 as source and a second item(select list) having the source query 2. Then you must add a condition display on both of them like. Item one is displayed when Value of Item in expression 1 equals expression 2. And you pust :APP_USER in expression 1 and BACK_OFFICE in expression 2. And for the other item, that contains query 2, you put the opposite condition Value of item in expression 1 is not equal to expression 2, and expression 1 is :APP_USER and in expression 2 is BACK_OFFICE.
    Hope this helps.

  • Select List & Pop-up Page

    Hey everyone...
    I am having some trouble with passing values to and from a pop-up window. When running the application the user must select a value from a select list (which appears in every row of a query report), then another page must pop-up displaying another query report. The user then select a row from that report and the window closes, returning the values of that row.
    I am able to do everything, including returning the values to the original page, except for sending values to the pop-up itself. I need to send the pirmary key value to the pop-up.
    The select list is a query based LOV. In the element attributes field I have:
    onchange="triggerPopUp('#TABLE_PK#');"
    The syntax for triggerPopUp is the following:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function onceYouPopYouJustCantStop(table_pk) {
    var sendpk = table_pk;
    var url;
    url = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:30:&APP_SESSION.::::PK_30:'+sendpk;
    w = open(url,"winLov","Scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=320,height=600");
    if (w.opener == null)
    w.opener = self;
    w.focus();
    </script>
    The window pops up, but the value of TABLE_PK is not recognized. If the function call is used in the URL for a column link it works perfectly, but I need it to happen after the select list is changed...
    any help would be great...

    the onchange is on the dropdown column, which is not the TABLE_PK column. I can use this.value to find the value of the drop down, but not any other column. getElementById does not work. If I use getElementById or simply #TABLE_PK# in the HTML Expression field it will give me the value. But I'm trying to place it in the Element Attributes field, which seems not to work the same way.
    If I could somehow refer to the drop-down item (which is a query LOV, not an HTMLDB created item) through the element attributes, I think it would solve my problem...

  • Select List (query based LOV) in a wizard created report form

    I have created an updatable report form with 3 columns:
    app_id
    user_id
    group_id
    Each app_id has multiple group_id's associated with it, and I want to show the group_id field as a Select List (query based LOV) that contains the groups associated with the app_id.
    My query for the select list needs to be similar to the following:
    SELECT DISPLAY_NAME, GROUP_ID
    FROM APPLICATION_GROUPS
    WHERE APP_ID = ?????
    ORDER BY 1
    The problem is, I don't know how to reference the app_id from the main report to replace the ?????.
    In other words, if my report returns 2 rows of data like this:
    app_id----------user_id----------group_id
    1-----------------24------------------3
    2-----------------24------------------15
    Then how do I get the group_id column to be a select list of possible groups for each application? If app_id 1 has 3 groups associated with it, 3, 4, & 5 and app_id 2 has 2 groups associated with it, 15 & 16, then those each of the select lists should be based on the app_id.
    Hopefully I explained this clearly.
    Thanks,
    Kris

    Leo,
    Thanks for the response, but I don't think you quite understand my problem. If I go to the Column Attributes screen for the group_id field, I have the "Display As" drop down set to "Select List (query based LOV)", not "Select List (named LOV)". This requires that the sql query be written in the "List of values definition" text area below. Within that text area I have the following query:
    SELECT DISPLAY_NAME, GROUP_ID
    FROM APPLICATION_GROUPS
    WHERE APP_ID = ?????
    ORDER BY 1
    The APP_ID that I need to reference is for the current row of data that is being processed. Therefore, I can't use a :PNNN_APP_ID variable, because that field does not exist on the page.
    Hopefully this explains it a little better.

  • Select List (query based LOV) in V. 4.1.1.00.23

    Hi guys,
    I am having some problems with an APEX application that I have exported from V. 4.1.0.00.32 and imported on V. 4.1.1.00.23.
    I have a Tabular Form region where I have a column which is Display As "Select List (Query based LOV)".
    If I add a new row - choose a new value (not the same as any of the above rows) and "Apply Changes"/"Submit" the value in the new row changes to the value of the 1. row of the tabular form :-( I can update this new row and then it saves the right value... It looks like it is only when inserting a new row.
    Is this a bug or is it a feature ;-)
    Hope you can help...

  • SELECT List having Perfromance issues.

    Hi,
    I have a FORM having a SELECT list based on a LOV.
    that select list contains around - 15,000 records.
    when I display the select list in the form..it's taking 6-7 seconds to run that page.
    when I remove the select list..it running very fast ..1 sec..
    HOW to resolve this issues??
    Thanks,
    Deepak

    I don't think so! When APEX displays the page, it displays all the option values of select list. If you see the Page HTML Source, then you can found 15k options get rendered onto your page. So evidently it's consuming time.
    In general when I have to provide more than 200 options to user, I always prefer to go with pop-up lists.
    Cheers,
    Hari

  • Select list on submit of another select list

    Hi Friends. I have a two fields with select list. 2nd field select list field is dependent on 1st field select list.
    My table structure is this
    PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_ID     PRODUCT_CATEGORY_LOV_ID     PRODUCT_CATEGORY_NAME
    660                                     523                                           Boat, Motor, Trailer 1
    518                                     523                                           Boat, Motor, Trailer 1 B
    519                                     523                                           Boat, Motor, Trailer 1
    660                                     524                                           Hulls Only 2 HULLS
    518                                     524                                           Hulls Only 2 HULLS
    519                                     524                                           Hulls Only 2 HULLS
    520                                     524                                           Hulls Only The approach which i have followed is, i have created two item with P3141_PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_ID and P3141_PRODUCT_CATEGORY_LOV_ID. Item 1 has assigned an lov with select list with submit request. The list of value for 1st item is
    select distinct PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_ID d,PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_ID r
    from LKP_PRODUCT_GROUP_CATEGORYand the lov for 2nd item list of value is
    select PRODUCT_CATEGORY_NAME d,PRODUCT_CATEGORY_LOV_ID r
    from LKP_PRODUCT_GROUP_CATEGORY
    where PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_ID = :P3141_PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_IDNow when i am selecting PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_ID as 660 from item 1 it should populate two PRODUCT_CATEGORY_NAME value i.e, Boat, Motor, Trailer 1 and Hulls Only 2 HULLS. But its not returning the same.
    Please help me in this regard
    Thanks in advance

    BTW, are you using APEX 4.0? Because there you could use the "Cascading LOV" feature so you don't have to do a full page refresh.
    You just have to
    1) change your P3141_PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_ID select list to a normal one
    2) set P3141_PRODUCT_GROUP_LOV_ID as "Cascading LOV Parent Items" in your P3141_PRODUCT_CATEGORY_LOV_ID select list.
    That's all.

  • SELECT LIST versus POPUP LOV

    I have a form that currently has several fields defined as SELECT LIST, which works great when the list of items to be selected is small. However, one of the fields is a list of employees, which will be > 300, and I was thinking of using the POPUP LOV option. Mainly because of the Search capability - would like to just list those employees that are entered into the Search to show up in the list.
    I have tried the POPUP LOV within a CREATE record form (using Auto Row Processing and Database Columns), and it pops up showing a list of employees (using the same SELECT statement as used when it was a SELECT LIST). So far, so good. When I select an employee, the employees name shows up in the field in grey text. So far, so good. However, I do not get anything helpful when I enter anything into the Search box. I just get a "The page cannot be displayed" in the window. Basically I am unable to search. Bummer.
    However, when I look at the record that I just created, I do not see the employees name in the field anymore, I just see the employee's ID. I also get the following error message:
    "Error: ORA-00904: "SESTAFFID": invalid identifier performing List of Values query: "select Employee, SEStaffID from ( SELECT ec.ename || ' - ' || s.site_name "Employee", wss.wss_id "SEStaffID" FROM wiser_se_staff wss, vw_emp_contact@WISER_SA ec, vw_site@WISER_SA s WHERE wss.staff_emp_id = ec.empid AND wss.staff_sch_location = s.site_id AND ((:P205_REF_RECD_BY_ID IS NOT NULL AND :P205_REF_RECD_BY_ID = wss.wss_id) OR :P205_REF_RECD_BY_ID IS NULL) ORDER BY ec.ename, s.site_name) wwvlovinlineviewname where SEStaffID = :WWV_LOV_RETURN_KEY_UTIL_1111". "
    Dang, I hate it when that happens. I have not been able to find any references to this error that would shed light on how to handle this error.
    I followed the recommendation in the HTML DB User's Guide for Popup LOVs (Table 6-7 Available Item Types), to no avail.
    The SELECT statement that is being used is:
    SELECT ec.ename || ' - ' || s.site_name "Employee",
    wss.wss_id "SEStaffID"
    FROM wiser_se_staff wss,
    vw_emp_contact@WISER_SA ec,
    vw_site@WISER_SA s
    WHERE wss.staff_emp_id = ec.empid
    AND wss.staff_sch_location = s.site_id
    AND ((:P205_REF_RECD_BY_ID IS NOT NULL
    AND :P205_REF_RECD_BY_ID = wss.wss_id)
    OR :P205_REF_RECD_BY_ID IS NULL)
    ORDER BY ec.ename, s.site_name
    I guess my questions are:
    1) Why is APEX choking on the SELECT statement for the UPDATE and not the CREATE?
    2) Why doesn't the SEARCH feature work, or probably more correct, what am I missing?
    TIA

    Scott,
    Thank you for looking at this.
    You are correct in your assumption - I was using the 'Popup Key LOV (Displays description, returns key value)' Display As option.
    I have been able to isolate where the problem is. I reduced the 'List of values definition' to:
    SELECT ec.ename || ' - ' || s.site_name "Employee",
    wss.wss_id "SEStaffID"
    FROM wiser_se_staff wss,
    vw_emp_contact@WISER_SA ec,
    vw_site@WISER_SA s
    WHERE wss.staff_emp_id = ec.empid
    AND wss.staff_sch_location = s.site_id
    ORDER BY ec.ename, s.site_name
    I then received the same error. So, I just changed the alias from "SEStaffID" to "SESID" and it then gave me the following error:
    Error: ORA-00904: "EMPLOYEE": invalid identifier performing List of Values query: "select Employee, SESID from ( SELECT ec.ename || ' - ' || s.site_name "Employee", wss.wss_id "SESID" FROM wiser_se_staff wss, vw_emp_contact@WISER_SA ec, vw_site@WISER_SA s WHERE wss.staff_emp_id = ec.empid AND wss.staff_sch_location = s.site_id ORDER BY ec.ename, s.site_name ) wwvlovinlineviewname where SESID = :WWV_LOV_RETURN_KEY_UTIL_1111".
    So, I then eliminated the concatenation that was part of the first field so that it was then 'SELECT ec.ename "Employee",' and left the rest of the SQL statement alone. I received the same error message. I then eliminated the "Employee", resulting in 'SELECT ec.ename,' and reran it - the LOV then worked properly, showing a list of employees, and I was able to search the list as expected.
    There is something about using the alias on the fields that it just does NOT like.
    I just did another test, and it appears it is just when the alias is on the first field that it chokes. I removed the alias from the first field, and left the alias on the second field, and the LOV worked just fine.
    TIA,
    Tom

  • Switch item display type dynamically? popup-lov | select-list

    Hi,

    The simple approach is to create separate Select List and Pop-up LOV items and use conditions based on the number of available options to display the correct one. The items have to have different names, so if this is to be used for example to provide a value for a database column, create another hidden item based on the database column and transfer the values between the UI and DB items using computations.

  • LOV an SQL : how to configure a select list to get all records

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle 10g with APEX 2.0.
    Here is my question:
    I have a report and I am using 3 text fields and a select list to search through a join of two tables. The select list is composed of a "list of values" and the parameter, which is used in the SQL-sentence, has a numeric value.
    Result table after the join operation looks like this:
    Field1 Field2 Field3 Field4 (By assuming the field3 is the one which used in the select list.)
    21a this 1000 bn
    21a that 1001 vb
    33c thus 1012 ct
    What I want to do is to set another parameter-value pair in the select list to let user choose the "ALL" of the mentioned items in the select list so that the search will return all the records without having taken this select list-field into consideration.
    Is it possible to do it with LOV and SQL? Do I need any other functions? or configurations?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sedef

    Hi user630478!
    I always use a select list with submit and the option to get a NULL-Value for such things. To solve your problem do the following things:
    1.) Create two named LOVs. One as you already did and another one for all values.
    2.) Your select list with submit should be configured to show a NULL-Value e. g. it shows ALL with the value 0.
    3.) Create two conditional branches that work together with your select list. One that show the normal results if a user has clicked on a normal value and the second should act only if a user has clicked on ALL.
    4.) Write a process that switches the LOVs in your select list from one to the other. This process should only be fired if the second conditional branch has been actived.
    Maybe if I understood right that's what you want to know.
    yours sincerely

  • Problem writing a sql query for a select list based on a static LOV

    Hi,
    I have the following table...
    VALIDATIONS
    ID          Number     (PK)
    APP_ID          Number
    REQUESTED     Date
    APPROVED     Date
    VALID_TIL     Date
    DEPT_ID          Number     (FK)
    I have a search form with the following field item variables...
    P11_DEPT_ID (select list based on dynamic LOV from depts table)
    P11_VALID (select list based on static Yes/No LOV)
    A report on the columns of the Validations table is shown based on the values in the search form. So far, my sql query for the report is...
    SELECT v.APP_ID,
    v.REQUESTED,
    v.APPROVED,
    v.VALID_TIL,
    d.DEPT
    FROM DEPTS d, VALIDATIONS v
    WHERE d.DEPT_ID = v.DEPT_ID(+)
    AND (d.DEPT_ID = :P11_DEPT_ID OR :P11_DEPT_ID = -1)
    This query works so far. My problem is that I don't know how to do a search based on the P11_VALID item - if 'yes' is selected, then the VALID_TIL date is still valid. If 'no' is selected then the VALID_TIL date has passed.
    Can anyone help me to extend my query to include this situation?
    Thanks.

    Hello !
    Let's have a look at my example:create table test
    id        number
    ,valid_til date
    insert into test values( 1, sysdate-3 );
    insert into test values( 2, sysdate-2 );
    insert into test values( 3, sysdate-1 );
    insert into test values( 4, sysdate );
    insert into test values( 5, sysdate+1 );
    insert into test values( 6, sysdate+2 );
    commit;
    select * from test;
    def til=yes
    select *
      from test
      where decode(sign(trunc(valid_til)-trunc(sysdate)),1,1,0,1,-1)
           =decode('&til','yes',1,-1);
    def til=no
    select *
      from test
      where decode(sign(trunc(valid_til)-trunc(sysdate)),1,1,0,1,-1)
           =decode('&til','yes',1,-1);
    drop table test;  It's working fine, I've tested it.
    The above changes to my first idea I did because of time portion of the DATE datatype in Oracle and therefore the wrong result for today.
    For understandings:
    1.) TRUNC removes the time part of DATE
    2.) The difference of to date-values is the number of days between.
    3.) SIGN is the mathematical function and gives -1,0 or +1 according to an negative, zero or positiv argument.
    4.) DECODE is like an IF.
    Inspect your LOV for the returning values. According to my example they shoul be 'yes' and 'no'. If your values are different, you may have to modify the DECODE.
    Good luck,

  • Unable to create LOV (Select List)

    As per the dev. guide, I am trying to create a Parameterized Report. When I tried the example given in the guide it works for the sample application. But when I try for my application (based on HR data) it does not work.
    The steps I am following are same as dev. guide.
    a) Create a New Page
    b) Create the Query Region
    Here I am giving the following query :
    Select e.first_name,e.last_name,e.salary,e.job_id,d.department_name
    from employees e, departments d
    where e.department_id = d.department_id
    and ( d.department_name = :P700_SHOW or :P700_SHOW = 'ALL' )
    c) Adding an Item
    But here when I select an Item as "Select List" and when I move to the page "Identify List of Values", here for the field Named LOV, it does not populate with any value, like it does for the sample application.
    Also if i try giving the above query in the text box (List of Values query), it does not allow me to move ahead and throws follo. error:
    " LOV query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different. If your query contains an in-line query, the first FROM clause in the SQL statement must not belong to the in-line query."
    Can some help me on this? And also I am not able to understand, that for this exercise (parameterized report) why they have taken only sample application and not helped the dev. to create its own.

    Hi,
    You need to set up a "Named LOV" - go to Shared Components=>Lists of Values to create a LOV for the departments. This should be a "Dynamic" LOV, using the following SQL:
    select department_name d, department_id r
    from departments
    order by 1
    Give it a name like "DEPTS_LOV" and this will then be available for your select list.

  • Select list / Pop up box - Read only ??

    Hi all,
    I have a select list to populate a field in an ApEx application. The select list is populated by a query on a table and as such there is no option to input any non-standard items via free text into that field - all values must be chosen from the select list.
    My issue now is that the select list is getting quite large and is really not the easiest way to select data from a list.
    A popup LOV is perfect for the searching through available values but it leaves the text box available for "free text input", allowing non standaerd data to be entered into that field.
    Is there any solution to this?

    Neil,
    You can use Validation to enforce correct entry. The approach I use is to use custom popup. See example below:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/howtos/how_to_create_custom_popups.html
    You can set the text box's attributes to readonly="true". This will keep the textbox disabled thereby preventing free form data entry. Users will be forced to pick data from the custom popup page.
