POP users cant see new mail on OSX 10.5 Server

Hi All,
I have just upgraded my 10.4 server to 10.5. I had to do a clean install due to some problems with the upgrade. My problem is, most of my POP3 users can not see any mail. The mail is being collected and can be accessed with the users login details via web mail. When the user login in using Outlook, it checks and finishes as if there is no new mail.
If the user reconfigures their mail client to IMAP is work just fine, but IMAP is not good for some of my users needs.
I found that there are no error messages at the user end, or on the server logs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem with some POP3 users that use as mail client Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007. Up to now I don't have problem with Apple and Linux clients. I found out that users in which the alias differ from the shortname in the Open Directory record (which is the first shortname and mailbox identity) can't see the incoming Mail. For example, if the first shortname is user0001 and the alias is tony, I set [email protected] as the email address and user0001 as the User Name in the login information of Microsoft Outlook Configuration.

    In our company we have exchange 2010 with sp3 and all clients with windows 8.1 and Outlook 2013. Problem is that clients have problem with new messages in their mailboxes. they cant see new messages in subfolders. In Outlook 2010 everything worked fine,
    and after migration to 2013 this problem started.
    For example:
    There is user mailbox. He have a lot of subfolders. All subfolders is for varies companies. So he created rules, then someone writes from  campany, mail goes to its subfolder. Problem is that then user opens Outlook in the morning, he can't see that
    new mails are arrived to those subfolders. User must open that subfolder and only then, inside that subfolder he can see unread message. But how user can know, that inside is unread mail? :) Sometimes everything works fine, and sometimes user can't see new
    mails. Then he opens OWA, all new mails is marked as unread and there is number near subfolder with unread mail count.
    And this problem repeats to all users. I updated exchange to SP3 update 6. Operating system and Outlook is up to date. Recreation of profile helps for a week or two (Or user do not notice problem), and after that user calls me again with the same problem.
    And this happens not for one user but for all. Sometimes restarting Outlook helps, after restart number with unread mail count appears near subfolder. There is no addins or other changes in Outlook. Search folder is not a solution, because there is a lot of
    subfolders, so it would be a mess.
    Can you advice me? Where can be problem? Is it global for all users who are using exchange 2010 and Outlook 2013?

    I tryed using search folder but this solution didnt helped. Then user opens Outlook he sees unread mail count near subfolder, and sum of unread mails in search
    folder. But somefing happens and new mails does not appear neither in search folder neither near subfolders. But then client opens subfolder there are unread mails. In OWA everytime everything is OK. So user must check in OWA is there new mails and in which
    subfolder, then he opens that subfolder in Outlook, and uhnread mail is here.
    And another thing. Now one of clients have this problem. There is no count of new mails in subfolders, outlook does not show it, but OWA shows. In rules, client created few rules, near rules in action section,
    there is icon, it looks like screwdriver and wrench, i went to propeties of those rules and removed "Stop processing more rules", and this icon disappeared. All rules updated to server, and after that, new messages counts appeared near few subfolders.
    Is it possible that somehow this message count is combined with rules? Ant what does whis screwdriver and wrench icon means?

    sonnay, are you also in South Africa like the original poster whose message you tacked onto?
    A lot of countries only have app store, no music or video stores. Because of copyright laws that are different between every nation. Stupid, that the laws are different, but that's the way it is.

  • Must log out to see new mail?

    When I am in my iCloud mail, new mail does not show up while I am logged in.  I must log out and back in to see new mail. 
    There must be some way to have the system check for new mail without logging out.  How?

    Have you tried to Reset All Settings to see if that resolves the issue you are having with mail notifications?

  • I keep getting an error pop-up when I try to access my email. The pop-up says Cannot Get Mail  The connection to the server failed.  I get this pop-up on both my iPhone 5 and my iPad. I can still access my email, but the pop-up is real annoying.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like you're seeing an alert message when opening Mail on your iOS devices. Do you have multiple email accounts setup on the devices? Take a look at the article below, it provides suggestions that will resolve most issues that  cause an alert like that to appear in when starting the Mail app.

  • Lag in seeing NEW mail?

    when I go to check my mail for new emails, I see the numbers next to each email name, but when I go to view that new mail.... there is a time lage before it show the emails? old and new.
    any tips on getting this lag to go away? at times I have to close the mail program to get it to show each mail catagorys mail.
    this problem is happening on a imac g5 rev a. Everything else on the mac is perfect, lots of space, lots of ram.

    What type of account is this -- POP, IMAP or .mac? Are you running 10.4.4, as your Profile info indicates?

    Ernie, it's a pop modem line. Yes I am running 10.4.4. I have tried everything I could think of, repaired permissions, use my diskwarrior .... as I said the rest of the mac runs perfect. It is just when new mail comes in, you have to wait to see it??? all the older mail under it waits also. If I close it down (just the mail) then reopen it, it shows the mail quickly.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Mail hang with multiple pop accounts and invalid new mail counter

    More than a year ago, I migrated all email accounts from Outlook to Apple Mail using O2M application. I have 2 pop accounts and gmail account. Everything worked fine for a few month but then Mail started to hang during message receiving. It did so very often (4/5 times). When it does, nothing will revive it except a "force quit".
    I tried to fetch email from each account individually, that worked well every time. After I was sure that it has to do with getting new mail simultaneously, I tried everything to fix it. I tried to reconstruct all the mail boxes, I tried using only 2 boxes with all combinations (1 pop 1 gmail, 2 pop, etc) but nothing worked.
    I even tried to export all my mail boxes, then delete everything from Mail then reimport them with no luck.
    In addition, a couple of months later, my "Inbox" new mail counter started to sometimes displaying the wrong new mail count. It displays 2-4 new messages while there is none. In order to be sure, I created a smart mail box to have only new mail and it had none. By simply switching to any other folder then returning back to Inbox solves the problem.
    Can any one help?

    Make absolutely sure that your email addresses and configuration are correct. In nearly every case I've encountered, this is the problem.
    If you've confirmed this, make sure you're configured properly on your webmail account, if you have one. Webmail is something like ATT, the source of your internet.
    If you're still flummoxed, play hardball. Make sure you have all your current account info and passwords, and delete them in Mail/Preferences/Accounts. Then, reenter them one by one until they're perfect. This makes sure your settings are consistent and correct.

  • Help! -Itunes wont sync, Set-Up Assistant pops up, Cant see iPod contents..

    I have several problems happening at once - please help if you can!
    When I connect to iTunes, my iPod starts to sync, but then I get an error message "Cannot synchronize ----'s iPod. Unknown Error (-48)"
    It then jumps straight to the Set Up Assistant, as if its the first time I've connected my iPod! (I've had it for a year now). I'm too scared to go through that option in case it wipes the music/video off my iPod.
    After all this, my iPod's name Imine) is actually visible in the left side panel of iTunes - BUT, i cant see any of the contents ie songs, video etc.
    Funny thing is, I can still load songs & video onto the iPod, and it synchronizes and saves. But, I just cant see anything thats on the iPod (meaning I cant edit or delete, which is annoying), as iTunes only recognizes it as a brand new ipod.
    So, what can I do?
    I've tried to reset the Ipod, and reloaded iTunes. I've even used an earlier version of iTunes on a different computer and the exact same thing happens there (which leads me to believe somehting happened to the iPod).
    I dont want to restore the iPod - I have nearly filled the 160GB capacity and I simply cannot back it up anywhere as no computer i have has enough memory and all my original music is overseas at home.
    Why is itunes not recognising the ipod, but it still saves data on it??? How can I bypass the Set Up assistant?? (its irritating).

    I am also having the same problem. This is my second ipod (I've added a shuffle and already had a nano). The nano works fine. When I connect the shuffle, it is grayed out in the left pane. The main view only shows two tabs, Settings and Contents. It doesn't seem to matter how I have the syncing setup.

  • Why have Link previews been moved to the bottom of the page? I have a toolbar on my my site and my users cant see it because the link preview is obscuring it...

    Well as I can see from other questions asked people are already aware that when you hover over a link the link preview appears at the bottom of the page instead of the status bar.

    Well thats fine for me to do that but what about the users who come to my site and cant see my toolbar at the bottom because the link preview (with a long URL) is obscuring it? I cant tell them to go and install an addon, what bright spark thought of this I find it very disrupting.

    That being said, I should point out that you can reload pages in other ways.
    * Right-click any tab and choose Reload.
    * Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Reload.
    * Press F5.
    * Press Ctrl+R (Mac: Command+R).

  • A user cant see anything in SharePoint calendar with full access

    Hi,
    I have a wierd issue, where only one user cannot see anything in SharePoint 2010 Calendar, when everyone else can.
    The calendar has more than 100 events, and he cannot see anything in Calendar view. The calendar.aspx page comes up with no items in it.
    The calendar is very basic with default settings, I also gave the user full access but still nothing changed.
    FYI- in list settings, the users can "read all items", not just their own. It happens in all the other calendars also which he opened in front of me.
    Also, I logged in with my credentrials on his machine, and I could see all the items.
    We were migrating the exchange public calendars manually to SharePoint(about 10 of them), the calendars worked great for so many years without SharePoint, and now after migration the users have to  face issues.

    Can you try to use fiddler
    to trace why the details are not showing for that particular user? You may get few details to troubleshoot the issue. Does that user see the problem in other machines/browsers as well?

    I know there is a simple anwser to this but i cant find it . On my mail page I use to see the list of mail to the top and the one I had high lighted I would see on the bottom of the page. Well some thing happen and now I only see the list of mail unless i open in new window can someone tell me how to fix it back so i dont have to open a new window.

    anytime i save somethign to the desktop, i loose the ability to see the new files.. so i restart the finder, and they appear... whats wrong?
    as a point of notice, my finder also takes a LONG time to start when i boot the machine... restart from sleep is quick tho...

    Try repairing your drive, and do a clone type backup.
    Check for corruption.
    Might want to create a new user account for testing after you make sure. In Tiger there was a "Finder amnesia" (for want of a better term) before changes showed up. Changes were made, but maybe not written to disk yet or updated by the Finder.
    Depending on your situation, but Leopard by default I think creates a "Downloads" folder in your home account and I always store downloads into a folder, then move them to another with all the updates, patches, installers and such for safe keeping.
    Restarting the Finder should not be necessary and points to other issues. And there is the warning "unsaved changes may be lost" I think.
    So it does sound like an issue with the Desktop and Finder which sounds like a corrupt directory. Hopefully not. One note: Disk Utility does not always find and repair all problems. Definite need for Disk Warrior. I had some issues with the Finder, no problems found by First Aid, but DW did.
