Populating ComboBox with CFC web service return type query

I am just now learning Flex and am attempting my first app (I have been a CFer for years).
Anyway, I am attempting to build an AIR app in Flex that simply has a login with a form to submit information into a database.
Things are going ok, except I am stumped at something that I think should be simple...populating a combo box. I have a CFC (I am using CFCs as a web service to drive the app) that contains a method that simply returns a query. I want to use the results to populate the combo box display and value. I created the combo box and then dragged the method to the box to have FB create the code. It populates the list but with just [object Object]. This is a piece of cake in CF but I am not stumbling across the correct syntax in Flex. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Here is my current code.

  • Problem with CFMX web service function return

    I made a post yesterday about a web service function I was
    writing, as it turns out my post was extremly incorrect for my
    problem. With this web service function I can return an array just
    fine, I can return one instance of an object just fine, however,
    when I try to return an array of the object I keep getting the
    error:
    Could not perform web service invocation "SelectGames"
    because AxisFault faultCode: {
    http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/}Server.generalException

    which basically means that the CF server needs restarted.
    However if I restart the CF server, no matter how many times I am
    still getting this error. If I change up my web service function to
    return just a normal array of integers or strings, or I change it
    to return one instance of the arbritrary complex type it all works
    just fine. I am still a little new on this subject and any
    enlightenment would be great. If anyone has found a way around this
    please let me know.
    Here is my complex type:
    <cfcomponent>
    <cfproperty name="Game_id" type="numeric">
    <cfproperty name="gameDate" type="date">
    <cfproperty name="Starttime" type="string">
    <cfproperty name="Place" type="string">
    <cfproperty name="Level" type="string">
    <cfproperty name="Sport" type="string">
    <cfproperty name="Gender" type="string">
    <cfproperty name="Opponent" type="string">
    <cfproperty name="Type" type="string">
    <cfproperty name="Link" type="string">
    </cfcomponent>
    I loop trhough a query and set a cfobject of the types above,
    then I append that object to an array and try t o return the array.
    Here is the basics of the loop:
    <cfset theArray = arrayNew(1)>
    <cfobject component = "games" name = "test>
    <cfloop query ...>
    <!--- set values to test ---->
    <cfset arrayApend(theArray, test)>
    </cfquery>
    <cfreturn theArray>
    my return type is array, I think the problem is I need to
    specify the return type to be an array of arbritray complex types
    which is impossible to do in CF. Anyone find a way to get around
    this?? Any feed back at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Yes, I have tried it and return type any does not work in
    this situation since this function is being consumed by a web
    service. It needs to be in the form of an array of arbritrary type
    that is defined in a cfc file. Since this is WSDL the returntype
    has to be specified to every last bit.

  • Web Service returning JCO.Table with no content

    Hello all,
    I've written a web service returning an object of type JCO.Table
    When I'm testing it in the Web Service Navigator the response contains two parameters: tabLength and row (current row number), but doesn't contain the content of the table.
    I tried testing the Web Service also from Webdynpro but its the same -
    the result contains a ComplexTypeJCOTable and from that object I can only get the tabLength and row.
    Anyone knows why is it happening?
    Thanks for your help, Adi.

    Hi Rajendrakumar Gaikwad,
    Thanks for your suggestion.
    I don't think this will be an efficient solution for me or for the web service clients.
    I'm still looking for an explanation why can't I get the JCO.Table content.
    Is it impossible for some reason or am I doing anything wrong?
    Thanks again, Adi.

  • What happens when a OUT parameter of a web-service returns an empty string

    Hi,
    Any idea on how to deal with the situation when a web-service returns an empty string
    I get the following System Exception:-
    Caused by: java.lang.AssertionError: Attempt to set empty javaType to ticketResponse(out,0) :: fuego.type.FuegoClass$LazyRef@6770f2. It must be null or a valid java type.
    It therefore either expects a null value or a valid java type...
    Since it goes into a system exception, the activity is not completed and nothing is inserted into the web-service..
    How do we resolve this error inside of BPM?

    Thanks Ben for your replies.
    Before I attempt changing a VI that was written by a client and make a total mess of it, there's something I'd like to point out.
    I tried the re-entrant VI approach and that didn't go any further than the VIT approach, and probably for the same reason(s).
    The interesting part is that (with the VIT approach) the same VIT is called by another process and it works fine.  It is just for the process that has it appear within 2 sub-panels.  So the issue is related to having either having two instances spawn at once of the same VIT or it is related to the sub-panels.  I think it is the two instances (or copies of the VIT) that causes LV to caugh...
    So you are trying to tell me that the above description is accurate and it is because of the private methods...??...
    How would I "wrap" those private methods into public ones?  The seems to be a piece of this puzzle that I am not yet grasping..
    Thanks for your patience and help.

  • BUG: Web service returns request XML as response when result too large

    Hi,
    sorry for cross-posting, but the Web Services forum seems to be quite abandoned and this is an urgent issue for me.
    I have a web service returning some records of a given type (created using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3). The running environment and the service implementation do not seem to make any difference, as the situation is the same whether running it in embedded OC4J or in AS 10.1.3.1, and whether it is generated from a PL/SQL procedure or a method of a plain Java class.
    The problem is that if the result of this web service is too large (contains a lot of records), then the processing halts in some Oracle class in some web service library, so not in a debuggable generated web service source or in the service implementation itself.
    I think that the XML processing halts because of a "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space".
    Then a more serious problem follows: the service doesn't return a fault message but the original request XML as a response. Obviously, this can lead to some really unexpected errors.
    To reproduce this error:
    1. Create a Java class with a method returning an array of an arbitrary type, of the size specified in an input parameter.
    2. Create a web service from this class.
    3. Call it multiple times increasing the size parameter in every call until you get back the request as response or any error message.
    For example:
    - if you test the web service using the web page generated to access the endpoint, then you can see the response XML - in case you don't get an Internal Server Error (Java heap space).
    - if you use a generated web service proxy for testing, then it will give an error saying "unexpected element name: expected={namespace}someOperationResponseElement
    actual={namespace}someOperationElement".
    Any ideas how to locate / solve this problem?
    Regards,
    Patrik

    Patrik,
    the usual recommendation is to try with 10.1.3.3 instead of 10.1.3.1 to exclude you are hunting down an already fixed issue. From what you describe, the error seems less JDeveloper related than OC4J or OracleAs.
    So in case it reproduces in 10.1.3.3 I suggest to create a testcase and open a service request with support, or try the OC4J forum in case its known there.

  • How to Use SOAPArray to Exchanged Data with a Web Service

    The method of a prototype Web service I created is defined to take many parameters
    and return an object of a user defined class. Furthermore, the user defined class
    includes data elements of another user defined class and the Java ArrayList class.
    This works with a Java client referencing the WebLogic created client.jar file
    but I don't know how well it will work with a non-Java client. In particular,
    with Perl which is the language that will be used by the developer who first will
    test with the prototype.
    In posts to this newsgroup use of "language-specific, generic containers" has
    been discouraged and the "language-agnostic" SOAPArray recommended. I have searched
    this newgsroup and the Web for examples of how to use a SOAPArray in a Web service
    EJB to receive parameters and return results but found none.
    Will someone refer me to an example or give an overview of how a Java Web service
    EJB running in WebLogic 6.1 would use SOAPArray to get parameter values and return
    results?

    Replies in-line:
    How are the structures, e.g. gltrans-workType, defined in the Web service?The structure is made up of nested Java Beans, but this does not mean that the
    client for your web service has to be written in Java. The WSDL that I sent contains
    everything that a .NET-based (or Perl-based, or Python-based, or VB-based, or
    C++ based) Web Service Stack needs to correctly create all the data types in the
    web services' signature! That's the beauty of XML Schema! It's programming language
    independent :-)
    In
    other words, what definition in Java resulted in the WSDL statements?The WSDL wasn't produced by WLS 6.1, but it (WLS 6.1) can consume it.
    What is the signature of method submitGLTransWorkAsJavaBean() in the
    Web service?public void submitGLTransWorkAsJavaBean(GlTransactionsCpyType glTransactionsCpyType)
    GlTransactionsCpyType is the outer-most Java Bean. WLS 6.1 does not generate
    Java Beans for you, but it will use ones that you defined. See the Java Bean tutorial
    on the Javasoft sitem for details on how to create a Java Bean.
    Was the WSDL generated using the WL tools for creating a Web service?No.
    Conclusion:
    You asked for someone to provide you with an example of how to use SOAP array
    in a WSDL, which is what the attached file contained :-) What you want to do now
    is find a tool that can generate Java Bean code from this WSDL (Apache Axis has
    a wsdl2java tool that should work), or create the Java Beans yourself. Afterwards,
    create a WLS 6.1 Web Service a expose it for a Perl or .NET client.

  • Flash connect with Java Web service

    I would like to develop a Flash UI communicating with Database. And i create a web service (in Java) that asking database
    to return a table.
    So i don't know why the datagrid in UI databind with the web service but it can't display / mapping with the return data.
    What databind type should i choose ? And what type or return value in the web service ? ( ResultSet / String Array, etc )

    Resolved when I create a deployement profile explicitly.
    The Webservice.deploy that gets created automatically when I create a web service was giving this issue.
    Thanks

  • Trying to reconnect with the Web Service

    Hello, this is my first post.
    I have an interface that currently is running through BPM from Sap to a Web Service.
    The problem is that when sending many messages get an error "java.io.IOException: invalid content type for SOAP: TEXT / HTML" but when it is sent manually reprocessing satisfactorily.
    There is a way to configure the interface to send a message and when not to connect with the Web Service; try again send?
    Thanks

    The function that is getting called is createMessage. It Internalizes the contents of the given InputStream object into a new SOAPMessage object and returns the SOAPMessage object.
    The InputStream object contains the data for a message headers - the transport-specific headers passed to the message in a transport-independent fashion for creation of the message
    What is returned is a new SOAPMessage object containing the data from the given InputStream object
    The error java.io.IOException - will be thrown if there is a problem in reading data from the input stream. Please check the data being passed in the InputStream - the signrature of the call is ...
    public abstract SOAPMessage createMessage(MimeHeaders headers,                                          java.io.InputStream in)                                   throws java.io.IOException,     SOAPException

  • Problem with RESTful web service

    I am running into a problem with Flex Web Services (REST) in trying to get the proper format returned. I can see that the HTTP header is set to

    Hi,
    I have posted a simple application with the RESTful reference:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=13758
    I can give you full privileges on this so you can look at the WEB service reference. Shall I send to you separately for login user?
    It is using the RESTful service: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/nd_pat_miller/demo/employee/{deptno}
    This RESTful service tests fine when I test from within the RESTful web service module of the Workspace.
    I based this on the Video demo tutorial for RESTful web service that Oracle published for 4.2 release. The video seemed to exclude the {deptno} in the URL but when I try that, it doesn't work either.
    This is the error I am getting when I run this on my Apex environment: (it, of course, will not run the web service in the apex.oracle.com environment)

  • Basic auth with RESTful WEb service and Web Service reference

    Hi, All,
    We have made much progress on getting an application working wtih RESTful web services but now are trying to figure out how to lock down a RESTful Web service while making it available for a particular application.
    We are using one of the sample 'emp' table web services that come with Apex 4.2 and are trying to apply Basic Auth to the WEb Service via Weblogic filter defined in the web.xml file. That works fine. I now get challenged when I try to go to :
    https://wlogic.edu/apex/bnr/ace/hr/empinfo/
    And when I authenticate to that challenge I am able to get the data. (we are usiing LDAP authentication at the Weblogic level)
    However, I am not sure how to get same basic authentication to work with the Web Service reference in my application. I see the error message in the application when I try to call that Web Service:
    401--Unauthorized<
    And I see:
    "The request requires user authentication. The response MUST include a WWW-Authenticate header field (section 14.46) containing a challenge applicable to the requested resource. The client MAY repeat the request with a suitable Authorization header field (section 14.8). If the request already included Authorization credentials"
    How do I provide the credentials in the Web REference or do I provide credentials in the Application?
    Web service works fine if I remove the RESTful web service basic auth from the Web.xml file.
    Should we NOT use Weblogic basic auth and instead use basic auth from Workspace RESTful web service definition. If so, how do we implement THAT basic auth in the Web Service definition and in the Web SErvice Reference on the application?
    Thanks,
    Pat

    Hi,
    I am unable to connect to
    http://hostname:81/Orchestrator2012/Orchestrator.svc/ in IE and am getting the same error while creating the connector.

    anyone seen it before?

  • Does ws adapter only work with asynchronous web service?

    Hi all,
    can you please confirm whether or not ws adapter (PI 7.1) only works with asynchronous web service?
    I have created an async. outbound service interface in PI 7.1, generated the client proxy in ECC, created an web service based on the proxy, wrote a test program to call the web service (PI scenario uses ws adapter in the sender CC). Everything works fine.
    Then I did the same thing with sync. outbound service interface. I got exception while calling the web service in ECC.
    I've heard that ws adapter is designed for async. communication. Does it mean that it won't work with sync. web service?
    I haven't seen any official SAP document saying taht ws adapter only works for async. web service. If you have any, can you please share it?
    Thanks
    Jayson

    Thank you all for your information.
    The error I got when calling the proxy with logical port (web service) is:
    SOAP:1,007 SRT: Unsupported xstream found: ("HTTP Code 404  : Not Found")
    I will debug it to see what exactly happens. And will keep you guys updated.
    Just debugged, the error is because the http header's content type is text/html while it should be test/xml. However this type is set by the ws runtime, not by the application. Anybody has an idea about this?

          if v_first then
            v_first := false;
          else
            v_rtn.extend;
          end if;
        v_rtn(v_rtn.last) := test_rec(rec.s_nume_adre, rec.c_eta_civi, rec.l_nom1_comp, rec.l_nom2_comp,
                                    rec.l_nom3_comp, rec.l_pren_comp, rec.d_date_nais);
        end loop;
        return v_rtn;
      end;
    END;
    --select * from table (test_pkg.get_rows(null));
    I am able to retrieve the data using the select.
    However when I try to access its wsdl I get an error :

          </soap:Fault>
       </soap:Body>

    If I comment the function call in the package declaration I get a "correct" wsdl :

    Any hint as how to create and access pl sql web service returning multiple rows?
    I don't use java and don't have access to tools like JDeveloper.
    Thanks!

    The actual issue is that collection types are not supported for return parameters.
    The solution is to wrap the collection into another object.
    Here's a working example based on your settings :
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE test_rec is OBJECT (
      empno  number(4)
    , ename  varchar2(10)
    , hiredate date
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE test_array AS TABLE OF test_rec;
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE test_array_wrapper is OBJECT ( arr test_array );
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE test_pkg AS
      function get_rows(p_deptno in number) return test_array_wrapper;
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY test_pkg AS
      function get_rows(p_deptno in number) return test_array_wrapper is
        results  test_array;
      begin
        select test_rec(empno, ename, hiredate)
        bulk collect into results
        from scott.emp
        where deptno = p_deptno;
        return test_array_wrapper(results);
      end;
    END;
    The wsdl is then generated correctly :
    SQL> select httpuritype('http://DEV:dev@localhost:8080/orawsv/DEV/TEST_PKG/GET_ROWS?wsdl').getxml() from dual;
    HTTPURITYPE('HTTP://DEV:DEV@LOCALHOST:8080/ORAWSV/DEV/TEST_PKG/GET_ROWS?WSDL').GETXML()

  • Composite Application with RESTful Web Services

    Hello!
    Is it possible to build Composite Application with RESTful Web Services only. I use Glassfishe 2.1 and OpenESB 2.1.
    Can you point me on some tutorials on the net to read about using RESTful Web Services in BPEL?

    Hi Gabriel,
    Let me try to answer some of your questions:
    1) The "Requires Secure Access" attribute of a resource handler controls whether this handler must be accessed/consumed only over SSL (HTTPS). Oracle Database Cloud Schema Service is only offered over SSL, so this attribute does not have any effect on RESTful services deployed in this environment (because secure access is always required and there is no other way). That said, if you want to access such web service from your own APEX instance, your instance must have Oracle Wallet configured with appropriate SSL certificate.
    2) The URI parameters are not required. If your web service returns data for many entities (for example, list of employees in employees/), you may not need a parameter. If your web service returns data for one specific entity (for example, details of one employee in employees/{id}), you may want to identify that entity with a URI parameter.
    3) You can have many URI parameters, for example: customers/{id}/orders/{order_id}.
    4) Yes, these are the same HTTP methods/verbs you would use from PHP.
    5) If you are trying this POST example from your own APEX instance (not Oracle Database Cloud Schema Service) and you are trying to access a web service over SSL, then it is likely that the Oracle Wallet used by your instance does not include the required SSL certificate(s), or the Oracle Wallet is not configured at all.
    6) I recommend to check RESTful Web Services for the Oracle Database Cloud white paper and Oracle REST Data Services Developers Guide. Oracle REST Data Services is the technology that enables RESTful services in the Oracle Database Cloud Schema Service.
    You can certainly create your own web services in the Oracle Database Cloud Schema Service and consume them from the same environment.
