Popup Panel to have Priority over Background Objects

I have a maximized Normal panel operating with 300 buttons. Occasionally I
active a small Popup panel which leaves many buttons on the large Normal
panel still visible. I want to disallow the access to these buttons until
the Popup panel is gone. (Similar to the "Verify On =" of the Pushbutton
properties).
In MSWindows one would of course hear a "Bong" in such situations.

Lookout doesn't directly implement what you are trying to do -- modal dialog
boxes.
However, you can get the same results by doing the following: create a Pushbutton
say, PbInvisible, on your main panel such that it is transparent, has no
label, and is big enough to cover the entire Panel. Make sure you bring
this invisible pushbutton "to the front."
Let's say your "modal" Popup panel is called Popup1.
Now, in the Edit connections for the invisible pushbutton, make the following
connection:
PbInvisible.visible = Popup1.visible
So now, under normal operation (without the Popup panel displayed), the PbInvisible
will be invisible and the user has access to all the controls on the main
panel. However, as soon as the Popup1 panel becomes visible, the PbInvisible
bu
tton will become "visible" (but since it's transparent, you won't see it!).
This invisible button will now shield all the controls on the main panel
from the user!
If you have more than one popup panels, then just OR their visible datamembers
in the above connection.
You can go further and have your "bong" by connecting this PbInvisible to
the PlayWav Object. Use the desired wav file from your Windows.

No Cursor over fullpage background object

When I have a full page graphic as a background object and "Make background objects selectable" is deselected, sporadically I get a white arrow and cannot enter text. This is a text document.
To get back to the text I have to make the object selectable, move or delete it, and only when the arrow moves over a portion of the screen where the object is no longer there do I get a cursor. I use a PDF full page graphic for my letterhead and this is a problem.

Usual elements of a letterhead are a logo and text (names addresses etc), none of which should overlap your main letter writing area.
Lay those out as in Apple's templates and save them as your own template:

Whenever I click on a link or open a page these popups show up.
I've tried the following:
Cleared website history and data, and gone to Safari > Preferences > Privacy > and removed all website data.
then restarted my computer
In Finder, holding down Option and clicking on Go to find the hidden Library file:
deleted/moved to trash the following files:
caches
internet plugins
launch agents
any plist files in safari folder
Then, restarted my macbook pro and then emptied the trash
I've Safari > Preferences > Security > blocked pop up windows
What should I try next?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for a file with a name of the form
          com.something.daemon.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. It could be "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," "trusteddownloads," or pretty much anything else.
There may also be a file named
           com.something.helper.plist
in the same folder.
If you find files with names that fit the above description, post what you have for "something."

How do I remove the grid map over an object when working in 3D?

I am working through Adobe's Photoshop CS6 Classroom in a Book, Section 12 - Working with 3D Images.
So far I have found it all fairly straight forward and very useful.
I am at a point where I am applying textures and materials to my objects, however I cannot seem to find out how to remove the grid that has mapped itself over the objects. I have included a image to illustrate.
Can anyone help?
What is the command that will hide these grid maps?!

I went into YouTube as well, and indeed: It didn't remove the white background.
Then I went into Photoshop and was surprised: It was able to remove the white background by just playing around with the Magic Wand Tool. I also went into other programmes similar to Photoshop and was excited that there were connatural ways to remove the white background. Finally, I went into Illustrator and observed that the clipping path route worked. Even in CS6.
Not sure why it didn't work for you.

Configuring router to give my PC & tablet devices priority over guest

HI All, I have a teenager relative in the house who won't stop downloading movies and whatever else that takes up my bandwidth. Also, I just moved to FiOS from DSL, so i dont want to encourage even more downloading.
Q1. How do I give my devices priority over hers. I think I can make network object with my devices and then set priority to high. But should that be on the broadband, wifi or ethernet? high priority 7 is better right ?
Q2. is there a way to put a speed limit on the some of the devices? Also, can I stop peer to peer on certain (preferable) or all devices? The router was MI424WR (Actiontec)...
Also, how do I see which application is taking up the most bandwidth and from which device? thanks

Q1 I've never tried this but it looks like a priority option is available in the Actiontec.
Go to: Advanced > Quality of Service > Traffic priority.
Then create a rule to establish priority for each device.
Q2 I don't know how to put a speed limit on any device. But parental controls will allow you to block websites at certain times. That may be of help.
You can check total usage under System Monitoring, but not by device. Although I believe it would be safe to assume the device downloading movies is using most of the bandwidth.

JTable: After one row is modified, the row should have red color background

After one row is modified(using setValueAt()),
I want the modified row to have red color background color.
How can I do that? I tried.

Pages 5 OS X 10.9 background objects not selectable.

I have upgraded to the new pages.
I am using a file i creadted in the old one. I have a table that kept going to the background. I used to tick the "make background objects selectable box" and volla I could edit it.
I can not find this option anywhere in the new pages and am unable to edit the table contents. I have tried sleceting "make master objects selectable" in the arrange menu bar. This has had no effect.
Please help!

This problem bugged me for days in the new Pages. It seems background images aren't really supported that well. The option "Make background objects selectable" has disappeared. So now I have documents with an 'unselectable' image that I can't move around or delete.
I finally found the following workaround to delete an unselectable background image.
1. Use Select All (⌘+A) and copy all content to the clipboard (⌘+C)
2. Open a new blank document (⌘+N) and paste the content there (⌘+V)
3. In the new document, the 'backgrounded' image will be in the foreground, inline with text, and it's selectable with the mouse!
4. Select, modify or delete the object.
5. Then simply paste the fixed content over your original document.
I truly hope this gets a real fix though. Pages has enough problems as it is, but the flexible layouting and object placement were a real nice feature compared to Word.

Selecting background objects

1)How do you select a background object?
I made a square object, and put it at the back of my page. I believe it is fixed on the page.
Now I want to make adjustments to it's color...but I can't select it!!!
Only when I first load the file can I select it. (After unlocking it). But is there a way to select it without reloading?
I know this is a common problem, I tried a search, but none of the advice seemed to help.
2) I'm new to using pages, and new to page layout design in general. I find all the terminology VERY confusing. Does anyone know of a glossary of terms. It would really help me as I try to figure this (great?) program out!

Peggy's method won't work if you use a template with Master Objects (a useful feature if you want to add background colour or image to your file, and then continue with your project, i.e. adding text and other objects over it.) Check, for example, 'Classic Brochure' (Vineyard B&B) template - you can't select the vertical olive green boxes by just dragging the cursor from outside the printable area.
To select Master Objects: go to Format Menu - Advanced - Make Master Objects Selectable.
After making your adjustments uncheck Make Master Objects Selectable.
This method is useful when you want to avoid locking and unlocking objects as your project proceeds and you want to make adjustments to other objects on the page without worrying about background. While the Master Object stays unselectable, you can drag cursor and select objects you want to work with.
I produce a magazine in Pages, and I have spent a lot of time and effort trying this out.

Task priority and background properties...

Is it possible to set a task priority, as we can with System.Threading.Threads?
What about the background concept of a thread (IsBackground property)?

Yesterday I talked to a collegue that has a specific use for task priorities.
He has a service that perform tasks that come in at a fairly high rate. He lets the ThreadPool to manage when things get executed. This worked fine in the beginning.
Then users started complaining that the system was too slow. The problem is that user submitted work is added to the ThreadPool along with "system" tasks. He needed a way to indicate the user submitted work takes priority over all other tasks.
His solution was to fix the max thread count of the pool to 1 less than the number of processors and to process user tasks on a seperate thread. His thinking is that user tasks are guaranteed to have a waiting processor to do the work.
Although this solved the problem most of the time it did create two new problems: 1. all other tasks have fewer threads to do thier work...so they are slower. 2. user submitted tasks are essentially convoyed to a single thread. they block each other.
I think his solution is a bit wacky. The question is: can Parallel Extentions deal with this better?

How to remove background object in new pages?

How do I remove a background object on document issued from previous pages version?
Before I could tick 'background object are selectable' or something like this... Now I cannot find anything comparable!

Section Masters have static uneditable items on every page, really just watermarks.
I take this back. It won't work in Layout mode documents but in Word Processor documents:
1. Add a vertical rule with the Shapes tool.
2. Add either 3 text boxes or a 3 row table
3. Select all the above: Menu > Arrange > Section Master > Move Objects to Section Master/Make Master Objects Selectable
4. Insert a Section Break on each page. It has to be a Section break otherwise editing the Master Objects will repeat on previous pages.
This has been always the absolute worst part of Pages 5 and I really can't figure out how anyone at Apple thought this was good design.
This was all resolved 30 years ago in PageMaker, Ready-Set-Go, and several other DTP Apps. Not to mention it worked very effectively in Pages '09.
I admit the Captured Pages implementation in Pages '09 is less than obvious, but its function once set up is way faster than anything else I know.

Pages background objects - not selectable

Hi,
I recently updates Pages and opened a document that I was previously working on (in the older version). I used to make background objects selectable in the inspector, the inspector has since changed and I cannot click on a textbox that I placed in the background. Therefore I cannot amend the text in the box nor move the box, I can't even highlight it. I have searched online and tried the "Make master objects selectable" and I still cannot do anything to it.
Any suggestions welcome.

External Microsoft USB Mouse "slows" over clickable objects

I've just gotten around to plugging in a wireless USB mouse from Microsoft into my iBook. Everything is fine except that when I turn sensitivity to the highest setting (the way I like it and have it set on my touchpad), the cursor slows down over clickable objects.
Is there a way around this? The touchpad doesn't have this problem.

Some other things you can try.
Uninstall the LCC using the original installer.
Then do a manual search of the Library files and delete plist files showing Logitech or LCC in the file name. (Find and Spotlight do not search the libraries by default so you'll need to navigate to the User and System libraries manually before doing the search.)
I used to have a Logitech track ball and I did notice that the LCC software sometimes did odd things I didn't like. After uninstalling the LCC and the plist files, the trackball worked just fine with the default Apple drivers.
The one sure way to get rid of the LCC drivers is to do an Erase and Install of the OS - It is a lot of work....
Short of a full Erase and Install, after manually removing the LCC drivers and plists, you can download and run the 10.5.5 Combo updater which may (or may not) correct faulty driver issues.

CVI incomplete/missing popup panels

Using CVI 6.0 under W2000 with MS VC++ 6, i sometimes can bring execution of my application to a halt by invoking a CVI message or prompt popup from a menu command callback procedure. The popup does not appear or appears without buttons and execution is stuck. I have to stop debugging and restart the application. I am using a Matrox G450 with two monitors, but they are configured as one large monitor, GetSystemAttribute(ATTR_NUM_MONITORS,..) returns 1. Sometimes the hangup is reproducible several times, then it disappears, possibly after closing other CVI applications before debugging again. Has anybody seen such behaviour?
I checked this is not a multithreading problem (my modal popups are created from the same thread as main panel). I am
using the system attribute to have CVI popups with 3D buttons.

I am having similar issues, whereby I sometimes get incomplete popup panels using CVI 7.1.1.
I tried updating the style of the popup panel to VAL_LAB_STYLE for the rendered buttons, but
the message and confirm popup are still in the classic style.
I am setting the POPUP_STYLE with
SetSystmePopupsAttribute(ATTR_POPUP_STYLE,VAL_LAB_STYLE) and verifiying
with GetSystemPopupsAttribute, but popup panels are not changed.
Any feedback would be helpful
