Popup sizes with Java 7

Has anybody else noticed strange sizes for popups when using the Java 7 betas and WindowsLookAndFeel? I've searched bugs.sun.com but couldn't fine much that sounded related to what I'm seeing:
import javax.swing.*;
public class PopupTest {
   public static void main(String[] args) {
      SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
         public void run() {
            try {
               UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
               new JFileChooser().showOpenDialog(null);
            } catch (Exception e) {
               e.printStackTrace();
}Try the following (NOTE: requires using WindowsLookAndFeel, I don't see the problem when using Metal, for example):
1. Click on the "Files of type" combo box to drop down its choices, then click it again to collapse it. Do this twice or more (it seems that doing it just once isn't sufficient to see the problem)
2. Grab its right-hand side and shrink the size of the JFileChooser horizontally.
3. Click on the combo box again. Note that the popup containing the choices list is too wide.
4. Now, hover the mouse over either the "Open" or "Cancel" JButton. Note that the JToolTip size was incorrectly calculated for its contents (looks to maybe the same size as the popup for the JComboBox?).
This doesn't seem to happen for me with Java 6. Is this a known issue? Or is this just the price you pay for picking up a random Java 7 beta? :)

Hi,
On February 2 2010 I filed a bug report that got an internal review ID of 1709860, which is NOT
visible on the Sun Developer Network (SDN).
I never heard of it again.
I added a demo of the problem (executable in the JDK development test system, but also stand alone) . For me the test fails on all versions of JDK 7 that I tested. It runs fine on JDK 6.
Could you verify that this demo reveals the same problem as you encountered?
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;

     * Without a delay, SunToolkit may encounter a problem in SunToolkit (at
     * least in JDK 6, where the drop down size problem is not present).

  • Is ist possible to define heap size when start with java -jar

    Hi,
    I start my application as executable jar. How can I set the heapsize when double clicking myapp.jar ? With java -Xmx512m -jar myapp.jar it should go. But can I specify this when double clicking the myapp.jar ?
    Thanks
    Oli

    For all jars it is not acceptable I think.... the value as entry in the manifest.mf could be nice... :(

    Hi,
    You can NOT do it with Javascript.
    You need an alternative solution: http://www.apex-plugin.com/oracle-apex-plugins/dynamic-action-plugin/popup-box_84.html

  • What is the best way to verify default heap size in Java

    Hi All,
    What is the best way to verify default heap size in Java ? does it vary over JVM to JVM . I was reading this article http://javarevisited.blogspot.sg/2011/05/java-heap-space-memory-size-jvm.html , and it says default size is 128 MB but When I run following code :
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    int MB = 1024*1024;
    System.out.println(Runtime.getRuntime().totalMemory()/MB);
    It print "870" i.e. 870 MB.
    I am bit confused, what is the best way to verify default heap size in any JVM ?

    Hi Kayaman,
    Sorry but I don't agree with you on verification part, Why not I can verify it ? to me default means value when I don't specify -Xms and -Xmx and by the way I was testing that program on 32 bit JRE 1.6 on Windows. I am also curious significant difference between 128MB and 870MB I saw, do you see anything obviously wrong ?That spec is outdated. Since Java 6 update 18 (Sun/Oracle implementation) the default maximum heap space is calculated based on total memory availability, but never more than 1GB on 32 bits JVMs / client VMs. On a 64 bits server VM the default can go as high as 32gb.
    The best way to verify ANYTHING is to address multiple sources of information and especially those produced by the source, not some page you find on the big bad internet. Even wikipedia is a whole lot better than any random internet site IMO. That's common sense, I can't believe you put much thought into it that you have to ask in a forum.

  • Image not showing in Abobe integrated with Java WebDynPro

    Hi All,
    Image is not showing in Abobe integrated with Java WebDynPro.
    I did the following:
    Added the image field in adobe form. in URL value set the value of context node binding. Binding set to none and size set to Use Original Size.
    Then in script editor i wrote
    this.value.image.href = xfa.resolveNode(this.value.image.href).value;
    at innitialize , javascript and client.
    I can see the image from the same url context value if image field is created directly in WebDynPro View.
    Can anyone suggest what is missing?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nuzhat

    Try changing your line of code for this one
    this.value.image.href = xfa.record.Images.URL;
    Check that the url passed by scripting is correct with a messageBox for example.
    You can also try assigning a hardcoded url at scripting level to check if its works.
    Best regards, Aldo.

  • XML Publisher report failing with java.lang.outofmemoryerror.

    Hi,
    We have developed a custom Oracle report that produces an XML output file that is about 13M in size (about 18K rows from the database). When running report as concurrent request, post processing fails with java.lang.outofmemoryerror. The failure occurs when specifying output format as Excel, RTF or HTML. However, the process completes successfully when specifying output format as PDF. We have also noticed that Excel, RTF and HTML will complete successfully if the XML data file is smaller (around 3M).
    Is anyone aware of a restriction on the size of the XML data file when specifying output formats Excel, RTF or HTML? We have tried setting temp directory but that has not helped.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    I found this at metalink [Note:390968.1].. hope it helps =)
    Symptoms: When attempting to run an XML Publisher concurrent program the following error occurs:
    ERROR: Warning!!! Got out of memory exception, retrying with scalable option..
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
    Oracle.apps.xdo.oa.cp.JCP4XDODataEngine
    Program exited with status 1
    Solution: To implement the solution, please execute the following steps:
    1. Login select the responsibility: System Administrator.
    2. Navigate to Concurrent > Program > Define.
    3. Query for concurrent program that is receiving the error.
    4. In the 'Options' field please enter -Xmx512M.
    5. Save the change and retest the issue.
    6. If the report still fails with the option set to -Xmx512M change the value to -Xmx1024M, save and try again
    7. Migrate the solution as appropriate to other environments.

  • Problem in printing pdf document with java code

    Hi All
    I want to print a pdf document with java code i have used PDFRenderer.jar to compile my code.
    Code:
    File f = new File("C:/Documents and Settings/123/Desktop/1241422767.pdf");
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(f);
    FileChannel fc = fis.getChannel();
    ByteBuffer bb = fc.map(FileChannel.MapMode.READ_ONLY, 0, fc.size());
    PDFFile pdfFile = new PDFFile(bb); // Create PDF Print Page
    PDFPrintPage pages = new PDFPrintPage(pdfFile);
    // Create Print Job
    PrinterJob pjob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
    PageFormat pf = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob().defaultPage();
    pjob.setJobName(f.getName());
    Book book = new Book();
    book.append(pages, pf, pdfFile.getNumPages());
    pjob.setPageable(book);
    // System.out.println(pjob.getPrintService());
    // Send print job to default printer
    pjob.print();
    but when i am running my program i am getting error
    Exception in thread "main" java.awt.print.PrinterException: Invalid name of PrintService.
    Please anybody, knows the solution for this error?
    Thanks In Advance
    Indira

    It seems that either there is no default printer setup or you have too many printers or no printer setup at all. Try running the following code. It should print the list of available print services.
    import java.awt.print.*;
    import javax.print.*;
    public class PrintServiceNames{
         public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {
              PrintService[] printServices = PrinterJob.lookupPrintServices();
              int i;
              for (i = 0; i < printServices.length; i++) {
                   System.out.println("P: " + printServices);
    }From the list pick one of the print service names and set it explicitly like "printerJob.setPrintService(printServices);" and then try running the program.

  • Help with java mapping

    PI File adapter has a processing option u2018Empty-Message Handlingu2019 to ignore or Write Empty Files. In case there is no data created after mapping on target side then this option determines whether to write an empty file or not. But there is a catch to this option when it comes to using it with File Content Conversion which is described in SAP Note u2018821267u2019. It states following:
    I configure the receiver channel with File content conversion mode and I set the 'Empty Message Handling' option to ignore. Input payload to the receiver channel is generated out of mapping and it does not have any record sets. However, this payload has a root element. Why does file receiver create empty output file with zero byte size in the target directory?  Example of such a payload generated from mapping is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <ns1:test xmlns:ns1="http://abcd.com/ab"></ns1:test>
    solution :
    If the message payload is empty (i.e., zero bytes in size), then File adapter's empty message handling feature does NOT write files into the target directory. On the other hand, if the payload is a valid XML document (as shown in example) that is generated from mapping with just a root element in it, the File Adapter does not treat it as an empty message and accordingly it writes to the target directory. To achieve your objective of not writing files (that have just a single root element) into the target directory, following could be done:
    Using a Java or ABAP Mapping in order to restrict the creation of node itself during mapping. (This cannot be achieved via Message Mapping)
    Using standard adapter modules to do content conversion first and then write file.
    can someone help with java mapping that can be used in this case?

  • Performance problem with java stored procedure

    hi,
    i developped a java class, then I stored it in Oracle 8.1.7.
    This class contains several import of other classes stored in the database.
    It works, but the execution perfomances are disappointing. It's very long. I guess, that's because of the great number of classes to load that are necessary for my class execution.
    I tried to increase the size of the java pool (I parameter 70 Mo in the java_pool_size parameter of the init.ora), but the performance is not much better.
    Has anyone an idea to increase the performance of this execution of my class ?
    In particular, is there a way to keep permanently in memory the java objects used by my class ?
    Thanks in advance
    bye

    before running Java, the database session needs to be Java enabled; this might be the reason why it is taking so long. If this is the case, you should see an improvement in subsequent calls, once a database session is Java enabled, other users can benefit from it.
    Kuassi
    I have some performance issue with java stored procedure. Hope some one will be able to help me out. I'm using java stored procedures in my application and basically these procedures are used to do some validation and form the XML message of the database tables. I have noticed that when I call the PL/SQL wrapper function, it is taking time to load the java class and once the class is loaded the execution is faster. Most of the time is spent for loading the class rather than executing the function. if I reduce the class load time, I can improve the performance drastically. Do any one of you know how to reduce the class load time. The following are the platform and oracle version.
    O/S: IBM AIX
    Oracle: 8.1.7

          throw ue ;
        finally {
          //close all the stream and file
          if (bis != null)
         bis.close();
          if (file != null)
         file = null ;
        }//end of try-catch-finally
    }

    Tried~
    The problem is still here~ >___<
    Anyway, thanks for information sharing~
    The message is:
    Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive.
    If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again.
    The problem may be here:
    if (fos != null)
    fos.close() ;
    if (bos != null)
    bos.close();
    if (zos != null)
    zos.close();
    if (file != null)
    file = null ;
    The fos is closed before bos so the last buffer is not
    saved.
    zos.close() is enough.

  • How to calculate OS memory size in java?

    I want to calculate free memory size , when I tried by Runtime class
    like this Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory() it gives JVS free memory size
    But I want OS free memory size
    If anybody know then plz reply me ASAP

    Since the question was asked the last time (yesterday afternoon), I don't think Java has changed much, so the answer is still: you can't do it with Java.

  • File processing failed with java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException:

    Hi
    I´m reading and sending files to an FTP server using SAP PI. I use file content conversion.
    Everything has been working fine for months - but now the server was changes to a new host. The only thing changed was the host/user and pass.
    But sending too the server fails with this error:
    File processing failed with java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -27
    Any body who has a clue??
    Reading files works ok. And i can transfer files to the FTP server with FileZilla without problems.

    In the file transfer by ftp:
    2011-10-03 17:27:08     Information     Transfer: "BIN" mode, size 737 bytes, encoding -.
    2011-10-03 17:27:08     Error     File processing failed with java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -27

    Its on the adapter level. All mappings etc are fine. And as i write has been for months. The only thing changed are the FTP server

  • What do you plan to do with java

    I know this is a game development forum, but I had one question. What does everyone 'who is nice at java example abuse' (i'm not saying that no one else is nice, but he's name is the most catchyest) what do you plan to do with java. Do you really want to make games in java for the rest of your life, and prove to the world that java is gaining power? Or you just use java as the jump off point to learn anything else.
    Sorry if i'm getting to personally, but I was just wondering. This is a question to everyone not just abuse. lol

    Development speed:
    C / C++ (DJGPP):
    downloading many parts - 1 week
    installing - 1 weekend
    looking for basic tutorials - 1 week
    getting hello world to work - 1 afternoon
    getting more tutorials - 1 week
    getting past hello world - 3 weeks
    doing something worth doing - never
    total time to becoming a basic C programmer - 18 months & counting (I still try every couple of months, it never works)
    compiling someone else's code - 1% success (only one program not specifically designed for DJGGP ever compiled - C is portable eh?)
    Java
    dowloading JDK - 4 hours
    installing - 1/2 hour
    basic tuts - 1 hour
    hello world - 3 hours (java.lang.NoClassDefFoundException :-) )
    more tutorials - 10 mins
    getting past hello world - 1 week
    doing something worth doing - 2 weeks
    total time to becoming a basic java programmer - 1 month
    compiling someone else's code - 95% success (some people use the GNU regexp and GL4java, now there's regexp & 3D in the main package, so that shouldn't be a problem for much longer)
    Running speed:
    http://members.lycos.co.uk/wjgoh/JavavsC.html
    pure java JITted for the current machine is faster than generalised C, it's just that in C you get like
    prog: printf("xxx\n")
    stdlib: some assembler
    wheras java
    prog: println("xxx");
    lib: print("xxx"+"\n");
    lib: print("xxx\n");
    lib: write("xxx\n");
    lib: write(new byte[] {'x','x','x','\n'});
    lib: native void write({'x','x','x','\n'});
    stdlib: write(bytes);
    stdlib: some assembler
    I know that's not the right chain, I'm just showing the idea. Also you get things like this:
    //deprecated - don't use
    getSize() {
    return size;
    //ok, use this
    getPanelSize() {
    return getSize();
    where it's faster to use dodgy old methods.
    Shish
