Portable class library - SSL certificate ignore support.

Hi,
We are developing mobile based project targeting to windows and ios platform.
1. Project has portable class library that is been shared among all this platforms.
2. We have asp.net web api services for data provider hosted on server with http and https (ssL) enabled.
3. We are successfully able to call web api methods using System.Net.HttpClient in portable class library and data is provided by the utility helper methods to all platforms.
4. Now based on the specific requirement we have to utilized https enabled service and we have to switch to ssl enabled call.
5. Based on my research over internet "ServicePointManager.ServerCertificateValidationCallback" is one we can use in .net native framework libraries but not available for portable libraries.
If anyone can help in this area that how can we make https call from portable class library.
Thanks in Advance,
Brajesh patel

Hello Brajesh,
As far as I know, in these currently released PCL, there seems to be no way to use the SSL certificate for http request.
My suggestion is that you could invite your friends or colleagues to vote this idea in below link(someone else already psot this request to the team):
http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio/suggestions/4784983-support-server-ssl-certificate-chain-inspection-in
With the increase of the the voice number, this priority of this idea would be improved.
Regards.

  • How to avoid having to clean a portable class library every time?

WinRT Project Foo references a portable class library PCLFoo.  Whenever a change is made to Foo and it is run (by pressing F5 or Ctr+F5), the following error occurs:
The type or namespace name 'PCLFoo' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Everything will be fine after cleaning PCLFoo (right-click >Clean).  Is there a way to avoid having to do this cleaning every time?

  • Cannot display images after updating SSL certificate

    Hello All,
With the changes in SSL certificates (no support for .local domains in public certificates), I had to update the SSL certificate used for our Exchange 2010 Server.  We are a small organization with a single server running Exchange Server 2010.
There were some articles about how to change the URL's within Exchange to use the public (not .local) domain names.  We followed these instructions and now, when a user using Outlook sends an e-mail with an image embedded to other users in the domain,
they see a placeholder for the graphic with the text "The linked image cannot be displayed.  The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted.  Verify that the link points to the correct file and location." .  This is causing a great
deal of concern to the users and I cannot find anything on how to fix or even troubleshoot this issue.  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Allen
Long time IT professional always learning the new stuff! Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi,
According to your post, I understand that client face an problem “The linked image cannot be displayed.  The file may have been moved, renamed, or deleted.  Verify that the link points to the correct file and location” after change SSL certificate.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Do you see the "page cannot be displayed" error only from your DC server or also from a Windows 7 client machine? What browser do you use and what version?
Please run “certutil –store” command from a command to verify that the certificate is correctly installed in the certificate store. Also run “certutil -store my” to check the certificate from CA.
If the certificate is already installed, please refer to below link to check the value of Cache in registry:

  • Wildcard SSL certificates

Hi, I was wondering if someone got CSS1150X with SSL accelerator working with wildcard SSL certificate. We have 10+ sites we would like to enable SSL and figured wildcard certificates are way to go based on the cost. Specially, since most of the wildcard certificates comes with limitation of being able to install it on only one physical machine. I assume CSS would be considered one physical machine if SSL traffic is terminated on the CSS, however, wanted to find out whether wildcard SSL certificate is supported on CSS. We are using CSS11503 and depending on whether it supports wildcard certificate, we are planning on purchasing SSL accelerator.

Thanks for the information, Gilles. Looking at the pricing structure of SSL certificates, I wonder why wildcard certs aren't widely used as one would expect based on the cost. Well, I guess I will find out when I implement one. Thanks again.

  • Support for Global SSL certificates  - not

    Hello,
Just found out the hard way that 10g does not support Verisign Global Certificates (Secure Site Pro).
BEA, IBM, and MICROSOFT support global certificates.
Oracle is the only one that does not!
If customer requirements dictate global certificates Oracle AS is not the product to use.

  • How to ignore SSL certificate warning only for a specific internal subnet?

I understand my issue may be a little unique, but I am sure some people have come across it. I am working with some test gears that have either self-signed certificates or flat out invalid/expired SSL certificates. Since this is a lab/test environment I don't want to have to go through the trouble of generating my own certificates and load them on each test device, since they come and go quite a bit.
Is there a way to tell Firefox to ignore SSL warning, but only for a given subnet? For example, if the SSL certificate is presented by anyone in 10.11.12.0/24, accept it without question, but if it's coming from anywhere else, check its validity.
I doubt this will ever be a main feature for Firefox, but perhaps someone has come across an add-on that does this?

I suggest you to ignore self signed certificates. You should get some low priced SSL certificates to prevent your website from warnings.
I preferred to buy ssl certificates from reseller, as its low pricing.
    Some good resellers are:
    [http://servertastic.com servertastic.com]
    [https://www.sslrenewals.com SSLRenewals.com]
and you can google it for more reseller list.

  • WILL MAC OS 10.4 server SUPPORT SHA-2 SSL CERTIFICATES

Am running Mac OS Server 10.4.11 on a PowerPC Mac Mini (1.42GHz) and currently have SHA-1 SSL certificate from GoDaddy.
They want everyone to upgrade to a SHA-2 (SHA256) SSL certificate for Google's Chrome browser which will soon start showing SSL errors for SHA-1 certificates.
Is Mac OS Server 10.4.11 capable of serving up a SHA-2 SSL certificate?  (I originally renewed last Feb. to a SHA-2 certificate, but many browsers didn't recognize it, so I re-keyed to a SHA-1 certificate that is good to 12/31/15.

I am trying to install an SSL cert on my Azure instance. I followed this tutorial: http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/documentation/articles/cloud-services-configure-ssl-certificate/
However, when I deploy the package on to the staging instance it does not start up. And we can't retrieve detailed bug, and can't connect remotely to that instance.
I am not sure what else can be done? Please help?

    hi,
Did you upload cert into staging environment? How did you set the Https endpoint on your service definition file ?Did you try to change http to https to access cloud service? I suggest you could try to use https to visit your cloudservice firstly. If it
doesn't work, please check your endpoints setting in your project.
    >>And we can't retrieve detailed bug, and can't connect remotely to that instance.
Did you enable the Remote desktop? You could enable the remote desktop on your deployment (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/gg443832.aspx ). Any latest info,
    please let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • When accessing Intranet sites that use SSL Certificates issued by our internal PKI, FF for Windows give an error of "improperly formatted DER-encoded message"

When accessing Intranet sites with that have SSL Certificates issued by our internal PKI, FF for Windows gives an error messsage - An error occurred during a connection to myshaw. security library: improperly formatted DER-encoded message. (Error code: sec_error_bad_der)
Chrome and IE work fine. This is a new PKI using the SHA-2 signature algorithm.

    Hi Guigs2,
From the other post you link too, I can confirm that both the Root and Subordinate CA have been commissioned with the:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CertSvc\Configuration\IssuingCA\CSP\AlternateSignatureAlgorithm = 1
registry key set. As can be seen above, the Signature algorithm on an issued certificate is RSASSA-PSS. This is been Microsoft suggested deployment IF you do not wish to support either XP or Windows 2003 machine and lower. In fact, I believe the option has been around since Windows 2008, however, there were of course, a lot more XP machines back then.
The obvious answer is that we would like to maintain the updated algorithm, AND see support for it added for Firefox. I think you will see a LOT more posts like this as people deploy more 2012 PKI infrastructure supporting only Windows 7 and up. Heavens, we may well be forced to Chrome or even back to IE!!! Whilst I do not what to necessary open up other potential vulnerabilities, for the sake of testing, what do you mean by disabling mozilla:pkix?

  • SQL Server cannot Find SSL Certificate

We need help solve an issue we are having with SQL Server 2008 recognizing certificates (for supporting SSL communications) we generate through the MakeCert.exe utility. We have followed all instructions available in the MSDN SQL Server 2008 online books, including using the mmc console utility to verify that the certificates are valid, but the certificates we make fail to be seen by the SQL Server 2008 Configuration Management application.

    Hi,
I’m not sure what instructions you read from MSDN. Do you follow the steps described in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191192.aspx?  If not, please try it. Additionally, I suggest you refer to the following content from MSDN:
For SQL Server to load a SSL certificate, the certificate must meet the following conditions:
    1. The certificate must be in either the local computer certificate store or the current user certificate store.
    2. The current system time must be after the Valid from property of the certificate and before the Valid to property of the certificate.
    3. The certificate must be meant for server authentication. This requires the Enhanced Key Usage property of the certificate to specify Server Authentication (1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.1).
    4. The certificate must be created by using the KeySpec option of AT_KEYEXCHANGE. Usually, the certificate's key usage property (KEY_USAGE) will also include key encipherment (CERT_KEY_ENCIPHERMENT_KEY_USAGE).
    5. The Subject property of the certificate must indicate that the common name (CN) is the same as the host name or fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the server computer. If SQL Server is running on a failover cluster, the common name must match the host name or FQDN of the virtual server and the certificates must be provisioned on all nodes in the failover cluster.
If there are any more questions, please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Can't find SSL certificate in SQL server configuration manager?

    Hi
It's been 2 days and I need a help. I have visited a number of sites and I still can't make it work
Two severs I have: Windows 2012 Standard with SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2012
I am trying to set it up on SQL 2008 R2 right now.
I have a certificate from a CA and did the followings.
    1. Open MMC
    2. Add Certificates Snap-in as a computer account (In fact, I tried all the three accounts)
    3. Right click-on Personal folder and All taks and Import
    4. Installed the certificate with Certificate import Wizard
    5. The certificate shows up under Personal/Certificates and Trusted Root Certification Authorities/Certificates
I did this with a local administrator account as well as MSSQL account(SQL Server service account I created). Even though the server is part of domain, SQL server is set up with local accounts.
This is a simply summary. I tried everything in the article such as 'Create Custom Request'.
I am not sure what I am missing. Why can't I see the certificate in SQL Server configuration manager?
I even made MSSQL (service account) as administrator. Not working.
as I am not using the domain service account, I believe below is not relevant.
Missing detail on "Install a certificate in the Windows certificate store..."
When following recommended security procedures and running SQL server under a domain service account, the service will fail to start after assigning a certificate to the protocols.  This is because the service account does not have permissions to read
the private key.  Fix this in the Certificates MMC snap-in (preferably right after installing the certificate.)  Select the certificate you just imported, then in the Action menu select "Manage private keys."  Grant the domain service
account read access to the private key of the server certificate.
Below is the few of reference I looked at..

    Hi Dinesh
    Thanks for the reply.
I did looked into the both sites as well. but it did not work.
Below is the step to install SQLs server certificate. and I was stuck with Step 9. when click 'next' in the wizard, I am not getting into a place to select 'computer' as certificate type.
Do you know what is wrong please?
Open the Microsoft Management Console (MMC): click Start, then click Run and in the Run dialog box type: MMC
On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in...
    Select Certificates, click Add.
You are prompted to open the snap-in for your user account, the service account, or the computer account. Select the Computer Account.
Select Local computer, and then click Finish.
Click OK in the Add/Remove Snap-in dialog box.
Click to select the Personal folder in the left-hand pane.
Right-click in the right-hand pane, point to All Tasks, and then click Request New Certificate...
Click Next in the Certificate Request Wizard dialog box. Select certificate type 'Computer'.
You can enter a friendly name in text box if you want or leave it blank, then complete the wizard.
Now you should see the certificate in the folder with the fully qualified computer domain name

  • Use Webaccess own self generated ssl certificate

Hi, our Webaccess external CA (Verisign) ssl certificate has expired.
This was being used for accessing our Webaccess.
Users get the following message pop up in their browser:
ourwebaddress.co.uk:443 uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate expired on 8/30/2009 00:59
    (Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)
We have been asked by management that we need to use our own generated certificate as we do not have enough budget to buy an external CA.
Would you be able to outline the steps to get the webaccess working with our own generated certificate.
Remember we have the cluster groupwise postoffices, gwia and webaccess agents in one tree.
In the other tree we have the webaccess application that apache handles.
Have not done this before any step by step guidance would be helpful on this.
Do we need to do anything also with the commgr file etc things like that.
    Regards
    Dennis
