Portal Export / Import Problems
I'm trying to export a Portal application from a solaris development machine running Portal 3.0.7 to a solaris production machine running 3.0.8 and I'm having problems.
As a starter I thought I'd try just the Login Server and the Security bits in that order.
Everything seems to go okay with both the export and import using ssoexp.csh/ssoimp.csh and secexp.csh/secimp.csh but when I navigate to the new production site and try to login with one of the usernames and passwords that should have been imported, I get an authentication failure.
Any ideas ?
Thanks
Garry

From the output you can see that there is data being imported for the Portal users but not OPDSTATS the user I wish to use, and have created on my development site.
However the WWUTL_SSO_TX_PERSON$ table has an entry created for OPDSTATS. I have compared the encrypted passwords for opdstats on dev and prod databases and they are the same.
The logon user OPDSTATS uses a schema called OPDUSER that is not created on the database after import of both Login Server and Security.
I can however logon as portal30 and have tried updating the table WWUTL_SSO_TX_PERSON$ with the portal30 encrypted password for the opdstats user, again this was unsuccessful.
Any idea anyone ?
Thanks

Portal Export Import with DB on different OS
Hi All,
I have a quick question about exporting the OracleAS Portal Metadata Repository database. Our source DB is on a different OS to our target DB.
We are going to apply the 10.1.2.3 patch and associated portal export/import patches to both nodes (from note 263995.1).
Our understanding was that we would use the method described in Chapter 10 of the Portal 10.1.4 Admin Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/portal.1014/b19305/cg_imex.htm).
However, according to metalink note#276620.1, because our source and target OS are different, we should use the database export/import methodology that is described in Chapter 11 of the Application Server 10.1.2 Admin Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/core.1012/b13995/prodtest.htm).
Could anyone tell me which way is better, we would prefer to use the database export/import method, has anyone tried this and what are their experiences.

Regards,
Tim.As far as your referred Metalink note is concerned, it gives you three options to move your repository with if you are working with 10.1.4 Portal.
It's a difference of can, should and must.
- It only shows ability to use three options ( can );
- on the whole, it does not give preferences for any method ( should );
- nor does it put a requirement for any single option ( must ).
( the only requirement/prohibition is for the option 2 which is not supported ).
we have used the first three methods given on the note (yes, we also tried 2; this note came later). 1 is what we use regularly for transports between environments; and 3 we use for environment staging (as given in chap 11 of pt. 3). both can be messy with a large repository (we do so for about ~400 GB) repository. but following that supportability guide (Metalink Note 333867.1), method 1 works too.
hope that helps!

Portal export/import between 9.0.2 and 9.o.3
I am aware that you can not export/import between portal installations on different versions e.g. 3.0.9 and 9.0.2 but is it possible to do export/import between 9.0.2 and 9.0.3?
The FAQ only states:
<<<<Snip>>>>
Portal Export/Import utilities will only work between portal installations that are at the same revision level. For example, Portal Import/Export will copy content successfully between two 9.0.2.x instances of Portal, but not between a 9.0.2 portal instance and a 3.0.9 portal instance.
That said, Portal Export/Import WILL work between two portal instances that are of different "minor" revision levels. For example, Portal Export/Import will work between a 9.0.2.2.14 portal instance to a 9.0.2.2.22 portal instance, and vice versa.
<<<</Snip>>>> -
Backout plan for Portal Export/Import
What is the best backout plan while doing the PORTAL export/import? Is cold backup of the Portal instance a good idea?
Dear Tarique,
I believe what you are looking is something like:-
ldapsearch -h %OIDHOST% -p %OIDPORT% -D cn=orcladmin -w %IAS_PASSWORD% -b "cn=IAS Infrastructure Databases,cn=IAS,cn=Products,cn=OracleContext" -s sub "orclResourceName=portal" orclpasswordattribute
... substitute the %OIDHOST% , %OIDPORT% and %IAS_PASSWORD% for your values.
This should easely return your Portal schema password.
I hope it helps...
Cheers,
Pedro. -
Work around portal's export/import problem
Hello.
Here in Spain we have tried Oracle Portal's import/export several times with no success (our last attempt ended in Metalink cases 1911182.996, 1911205.996, 2132048.22, 2132045.22, 2132043.22, 2132049.22, 1870233.995 and 2132042.22) . Maybe part of the problem is that our content areas are in Spanish. Anyway, we have given up on that import/export. Right now what we are doing is moving the control and data files whenever we HAVE to take our portal to another machine. We are looking for another way of doing it. This is what we are trying to do now:
DESTINATION DB
==============
* start with a portal installed here
* create the script that will later enable the constraints of schemas PORTAL30_DEMO, PORTAL30_SSO_PS, PORTAL30, PORTAL30_SSO
* disable the constraint of schemas PORTAL30_DEMO, PORTAL30_SSO_PS,PORTAL30,PORTAL30_SSO
* truncate all tables in these schemas (except WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIN_INFO$ in portal30 and portal30_sso)
* drop sequences
* import these schemas' tables and sequences from the origin DB
* enable the constraints
* if necessary run the ssodatan
Has anybody done it already? With what results? How are you importing/exporting a portal right now?
If this doesn't work (we believe it will) we will look at portable (?) tablespaces.
Thank you, Mere.Has anyone followed this migration while paper?
As far as I can tell, it takes nothing from the portal30 schema. Not sure how the applications will get set up without importing some of this data -
Page export/import problem
Hi,
I am getting a problem when i try to export and import a
portal page from one schema to other. I have two schemas
installed in the same database. I am able to export and import a
user defined oracle portal page from schema1 to schema2. The
problem is page is not importing portlets in that page. The page
contains some oracle provided portlets and some user defined
portlets. Oracle defined portlets are getting imported
successfully. But user defined portlets are not. Can any body
tell me what could be the problem.
The environment i am using is:
Oracle9iAd v1.0.2.2
Oracle9iAS portal v3.0.9
JPDK v3.0.9.0.1
Rgds,
Hari.Hi,
what method are you using to export/import pages?
If you are using COPY method than you should not have problems
with portlets on the page as long as new user have privileges for
a new page. I copied pages with user defined pl/sql portlets and
all of them working fine.
Let me know if you need more help. -
Page Export/Import problems
I have been trying to migrate my portal 3.0.7 development to another portal 3.0.8 development database and have been having problems with the page export and import routines. I have been following the Oracle Export / Import document and first come across the problem when importing the content area as it tries to import its content area page.
I have then tried to export / import pages separately and consistently get the following error.

Import of Portal Page Complete
The Export command used was as follows:
pageexp.csh s portal30 p portal30 n PAGE0 d pobpage.dmp c tools.ogg security
As I am migrating from 3.0.7 to 3.0.8 I use the 3.0.7 export script and the 3.0.8 import script. For completeness I have also tried using the 3.0.7 and 3.0.8 import and export scripts, and get the same error.
The version of Portal I am using is the Solaris version.
When I look at the new site and click on the pages Tab no new pages are loaded as expected. Does anyone have a similar problem or am I overlooking something?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Garry
nullPortal 3.0.8 is now available in both NT and UNIX. So you need to upgrade both your platforms and then use export/import between the same versions. That's easier said than done as I have yet to get the export/import scripts to correctly and fully work on exporting from NT to UNIX Tru64. Originally I ran the scripts on NT and connected to the UNIX DB; however, somewhere I saw that it is more relaible to run the scripts on UNIX. So I am trying that now.
Good luck!
(By the way I notice that Larry declared war on complexity. The laughable irony of this is revealed by a look at these discussion boards!)

Portal export/import on database 8.1.7 on an other machine
Hello,
I'm running Oracle8i on AIX. I have problem when I try full export/import my database (version 8.1.7) on an other machine. I have a problem with import users PORTAL30 and PORTAL30_SSO and CREATE TABLE 'WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO$'

IMP-00003: ORACLE error 22973 encountered

Thank you.
Borjana ZekicWhen using export/import between different releases, you need to use the older version of export to create your dump file. In your case, you must use the 8.0.5 export utility to export from your 8.1.7 database. You need a tnsname in your 8.0.5 tnsnames.ora that points to your 8.1.7 database. Then you use SQL Net to connect and do the export. So, instead of doing exp system/manager you would do exp system/manager@tnsname. Just be sure to use the 8.0.5 export, and your import will work fine.

2 midi export-import problems...from l8 to l8!
1. l8 always exports/imports midi regions as their own tracks. the preference for "export single regions as type 0 files" is different from how it worked in l7 (1 track with several separate regions exported/imported as 1 track). when exporting an entire sequence to midi, this preference now makes no difference whatsoever. annoying.
2. markers with text (lyrics, for instance) don't survive the import/export process. hardly surprising, i suppose. the markers themselves are there, but not their names, or the info contained in them. instead, you get a marker that looks like html/xml? it apparently references an rtf file, and shows font/color info. the actual marker start/end time values are correct, however.
grrrr
can anyone confirm, or know of a workaround?
Message was edited by: kelldammitAre there any free alternatives to Emaichemy to handle importing from Thunderbird to OS X Lion Mail?
I'm also having a problem importing from Thunderbird, but in my case the folders are importing but I'm only getting one message per folder. This was reported in another forum for an older OS X version (apparently Apple never fixed the problem), and the solution there was to use a utility called Eudora Mailbox Cleaner. Unfortunately, this utility does not run under Lion.
What I'm really trying to do is get local mail folders migrated from Zimbra Desktop to Mac Mail. There was no direct way to do this, because Mac Mail doesn't support Zimbra Deskop, and ZD can't export to an mbox file (it exports to eml format). However, Mac Mail "supports" importing directly from Thunderbird, and Thunderbird can import eml files using an add-on called ImportExportTools, so I installed Thunderbird, installed the add-on, imported the exported data from ZD, and that successfully brought my local mail folders into Thunderbird. So far so good. Unfortunately, when I tried to import from Mac Mail directly from Thunderbird, it imported all the folders, but just one message from each folder.
I also tried using the Thunderbird ImportExportTools add-on to export the folders, thinking it would generate mbox format. I was able to import that data using the "import from mbox" option in Mac Mail, but I got the same result -- all my folders came in with a single in message in each.
Any other suggestions? This is a one-time thing, I don't want to spend money on an application if I don't have to. -
Export/Import problem please help
Hi All,
I have a strange problem in Export/Import.. I don't know ,where to fix..
I'm trying to Export/Import dmp file in new Schema.
when i'm exporting the tables, it is writing with storage options(Which causing me the problem, I don't have a enough space in the tablespace and i can't increase any more)
I don't want the table data, i want only table structure without storage option.
So,i'm looking export syntax without storage options to the table(like inital extents,increment,max extents like that)
I'm writing like this
exp system/manager@connectstring file=exp.dmp log=exp.log owner=sys rows=N statistics=none indexes=n compress=N
Any idea ?
Thanks
James.Why are you exporting at all? You say you want to place this info into another schema (on the same instance? or an instance on the same network?) Just run this script:
alter tablespace mytablespace
default storage (initial 256K next 256K);
set heading off pages 0 echo off termout off
spool a.sql
select 'create table newschema.'||table_name||' tablespace mytablespace as select * from '||table_name||' where 1=2;'
from all_tables
where owner='OLDSCHEMA';
spool off
@a.sql
If the new schema is on a different instance or server, you will have to create a db link first. -
I'm working with the OWB version 9.0.3 and I've a problem with the export/import utility.
My problem :
I created a transformation in my development OWB-repository with 5 procedures/functions in it . I export this transformation and I import it into another OWB-repository (production) . A few days later I change the transformation by deleting a few procedures/function in my development owb-repository. Again I export the modified transformation out of my development OWB-repository and I import it in my production OWB-repository.
In my production OWB-repository I still see the deleted procedures/functions?
I've tried the import with all the different options (add+replace), (add+merge), (replace).(these option once with logical name search and physical name search).
Can somebody help me or am I doing something wrong?Marc,
Can you make sure you tried the option:
- match by universal identifier
- replace
Thanks,
Mark. -

1) To use the Character Set Scanner, you must run the csminst.sql script on the database that you plan to scan. The csminst.sql script needs to be run only once. This script is located at $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin
2) * Using the parameter file
csscan system/manager PARFILE=filename
PARFILE is a file containing the Character Set Scanner parameters you typically use.
* Using the command line
csscan system/manager full=y tochar=utf8 array=10240 process=3
* Using an interactive session
csscan system/manager
In an interactive session, the Character Set Scanner prompts you for the following parameters:
FULL/TABLE/USER
TOCHAR
ARRAY
PROCESS
If you want to specify parameters that are not listed, you need to invoke the Character Set Scanner using either the parameter file or the command line.
The following is a list of keywords for the Character Set Scanner:
Keyword Default Prompt Description
USERID yes username/password
FULL N yes scan entire database
USER yes user name of the table to scan
TABLE yes list of tables to scan
EXCLUDE list of tables to exclude from scan
TOCHAR yes new database character set name
FROMCHAR current database character set name
TONCHAR new NCHAR character set name
FROMNCHAR current NCHAR character set name
ARRAY 10240 yes size of array fetch buffer
PROCESS 1 yes number of scan process
MAXBLOCKS split table if larger than MAXBLOCKS
CAPTURE N capture convertible data
SUPPRESS suppress error log by N per table
FEEDBACK feedback progress every N rows
BOUNDARIES list of column size boundaries for summary report
LASTRPT N generate report of the previous database scan
LOG scan base name of log files
PARFILE parameter file name
PRESERVE N preserve existing scan results
HELP N show help screen
etc

OLIJoel,
The problem is solved it seems,
I imported the application with carachter set: West European ISO-8859-1
It gave no problems.
So to resume:
Host DAD WE8ISO8859P1
Imported with character set: West European ISO-8859-1
I now changed the DAD of the target server to WE8ISO8859P1 but that hasn't got anything to do with the problem, i think i choose the wrong character set to import it.
Thanks for the help
