Portal Sizing

Hi
I am using portal 3.0.7.6.2.
I Installed the JPDK AND REGISTER IT.
i also register the myfirstportlet.jsp .
I am trying to add a form to the myfirstportlet.jsp which consists of two input field of type "text".
When I view it through the browser of jdeveloper the two fileld appear.
When I run it from the portal, it shows me only one field.
I even try to use the same syntax as in the forminput.jsp but I am not able to succeed.
I thought that there is an issue in the size of the page where i am adding the portlet but even with a blank page , I Am not able display the two fields.
Kindly advise ASAP?
Regards

Georges,
Are you viewing portal with Netscape, I know that netscape is picky about stuff like that. It may possible just be an html issue. Make sure that you open and close the form properly and that all tags open and close.
Did you want to paste just the form section to see if it is something small. Just as you see in the form input portlet it is just standard HTML (almost), so it should work.
I would also try to cut and paste the form section into notepad and view it in netscape and see what happens.

  • Portal Sizing and Roadmap

    Hi,
I need some suggestions in portal sizing since I am new to this field. We have a external-facing portal with an user base of around 2000. Concurrent users would be 100. Portal is integrated with ECC, BW and BOBJ (around 9 reports).
I have read about Quick Sizer tool. For 100 concurrent users, what should I use: user sizing or throughput sizing? Is it recommended to follow the results from this tool? What if the user base increases in future? Is there any other approach to work on portal sizing?
Also, what are the things I need to take into considerations for the future road-map (Scalability, maintenance, etc) ?
    Thanks,
    Sham

    Hi Sushil,
Thanks for sharing the link. But it doesn't help much.
I tried using quick sizer tool and found the total SAPS as 2000 (DB SAPS: 500, App SAPS: 1500). Where do I find the relevant hardware for 2000 SAPS? I checked in SAP Benchmark results (Two-Tier Internet Configuration). Am I looking at the right place?
We were thinking of going for 2 core / 8 GB RAM.

  • Portal Sizing Query

    Dear All,
I am trying to do an initial sizing for Portal 7.0. The total user base is 75000. The logons/hour is 9375 (75000/8).The concurrent users are also taken us 9375, though they could be less. The users will use the Travel expense planning application. There is no KM and no other applications.
As per the quick sizer with a think time of 200 secs and concurrent users 9375 and logon/hour=9375, the SAPS is 4600 and 17GB of RAM. is this a realistic estimate?.
For the 4600 SAPS, the server configuration could be
    1. 1 DB+CI Server 2 CPU/4GB
    2.  4 Application Servers: 2 CPU/4GB each.
Will the above servers support the 9375 concurrent users?.
    Pl share your thought.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Velu

    Hi Velu,
You have to also into consideration
    01) no. of  custom java applictions
    02) any business packages
    03) user growth .. (futuristic view)

  • Portal sizing and UME Data Source

    Hi Expert,
Please suggest the sizing approach towards the Netweaver Portal which will be used by about 50 to 60 lacs of customers on internet. New users will be allowed to self-register themselves on the portal. Also what are the recommendations on the UME data source while implementing the portal.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
As you have already mentioned that no. of users is going to be large (some 500k-600k) it is important to undestand that these are the total number of users. You will have to do following to determine concurrent users:
    1. You will have to determine concurrent user phase i.e. peak load phase or time with max. no. of users you can imagine will work with Portal in 1 hours time. Reason to follow this method is large no. of users
    2. Categorize your total users in to Low, Medium & High profiles. That means, you should categorize say 500k users in to these three categories. Low category users are those who access portal occasinally. To clarify it even further, users performing not more than 400 screen changes are to be put into this category.
SAP has already mentioned the benchmark figures for these categories:
Low: Users performing 400 dialog steps/week
Medium: Users performing 4800 dialog step/week
High: Users performing 14400 dialog step/week
With this, you will have better clarity of how to determine concurrent users. You can use Activty Reports or ADC Service to initially determine the user trend. You can also make use of Wily Introscope to identify no. of logon requests made. Advantage of using Wily is you can see the data sliced into different time interval like last minute, 10 min, last hour and so on. This shall give you better picture of how many users are making logon within 1 hour.
Also as your user base is large, I don't think SAP recommends to use UME for 500K-600K users. It should be LDAP as far as I can think of. However, do get a second opinion about usage of the DB.

  • Portal sizing -- BI query rendering.

    Hi
We have a BI Nw04s system running on stack 11. And the same level is the Portal system.
All these days, when someone clicks on an i view which invloves BI query rendering, it will happen inside BI. Now in Nw04s we have EPC also. Now we are planning to push the query rendering part of BI to Portal system.
We have few thousands of users in BI. And if the query rendering part alone is moved to portal system, we need know how much we need to increase the system requirements of EP. Like how much should we increase the Heap size?RAM?
Can any one help? I was unable to carry out a regular sizing process. Please help on how much of RAM, CPU and Heap we should increase? Or, is it ok to have the existing EP config itself with out increasing any system requirements.
    Thanks
    Subbu

    Hi
While not knowing more details than that, it's not possible to tell if your system is already correctly sized. (concurrent users, avarage number of java iview on page, current SAPS number, etc.)
I would suggest you to try the Quick Sizer to point you if your system is correctly sized:

  • SAP Portal Network Sizing.

    Hi Friends,
We are implementing SAP Portal for ESS/MSS.
We would like to know whether, we have required computer network resources or not.
How we can check whether we have enough bandwidth that SAP Portal would need.
Please advise how we can check existing network. And what are the values SAP recommand to have ?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Prashanth.R.G.

    Prashanth,
Portal sizing is based on SAPS. Based on the number of users, please use the Sap Quick Sizer tool and calculate the SAPS. You need to work with hardware vendors such as IBM, SUN, DELL, and HP to find out the best server platform that you can use for your requirements considering different metrics in to account such as Processor, Virtualization, OS, Memory, DB per CPU, High-Availability, Implementation cost, server consolidation ratio, hardware/software breakdown cost and etc.,
You can find some info at http://www.sizinglounge.com
Specific to the enterprise portal, you need to check several tuning parameters to fine-tune the performance, Most of these can be identified in SAP Going-Live GA, GO, and GV checks.
When you talk about bandwidth, you need to work with your network admin based on where your user base comes from? Intranet? Extranet? Internet? There are different tools available such as sniffers to do an end-to-end testing. Hope this helps.

  • Separate Portal needed for SRM component

    Hi,
We are having an EP portal for ESS, MSS scenario. We are also implementing SAP SRM which requires portal as frontend. Just wanted to know whether we can user existing portal(having ESS,MSS) for  SRM as frontend?
Please let me know any pros and cons of having separate portal for SRM and not having also.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sanjay Patwal

Running SRM with ESS/MSS/BI is not a problem. They are simply different applications running on the same infrastructure.
Your question can also be phrased as 'Should I run on a separate JAVA instance'. Well if you think your ESS/MSS portal is already under strain, then yes putting on SRM will also increase the load unless you scale your portal sizing.
Secondly, some clients like to separate out SRM and ESS/MSS so that there are no interdependencies when it comes to patching. For example you may be patching your SRM ABAP, which will in turn require a patch to SRM Business Package which may in turn require a patch to JAVA engine which may impact ESS Business package. Managing the sp stacks can be a little tricky if you run all your apps on one portal. So you can split them out and federate.
Just some thoughts...I know it doesn't tell you exactly what to do. Essentially it is not a problem...It is a question of strategy. In the past I've used SRM on same portal as ESS/MSS and used the SRM JAVA Portal for external users.

  • Oracle 9iAS Rel.2 Portal

I have successfully installed the Oracle 9iAS Infrastructure and portal in release 2 of 9iAS
I have got the different Oracle homes for the J2EE, Infrastructure, and Portal also.
Can any one please tell me How should I run the Oracle Portal on my machine.
Step by Step solution is heartly desired.
    Thanks and Regards
    Suhas Shahapurkar

    Hi Bijesh,
We are coming out with a portal sizing document shortly on portalcenter (portalcenter.oracle.com). Meanwhile, ideally, for a production enviornment, you should be having Oracle9iAS infrastructure and Oracle9iAS on different machines. This configuration is more scaleable.

  • Hardware decoder on Audigy2

First, please, accept my appologies on my english.
Befor I bought my NX I've made some studies on it.
I found out that it has an ARM9 processor (Cirrus Logic EP7309) wich the manufacturer sais that it can decode MP3, WMA, AAC - hardware. Well, Audigy2 NX doesn't do that. I thought thay maybe, in time, Creative will release some driver updates to do that. Now, from November 04 I'm still waiting for that to happend.
    Q. Will it ever happend, Or I'll have to cut my venes out!
Q2. If not, WHY! (I woud like to know why I'll die!!!
I beli've that it is a wonderfull feature.
Q3. What are the hardware acceleration capabilities at this moment?
    Thanks!

  • Web Dispatchers Sizing for Portal

    SCN,
SAP doesn't offer a quicksizer for Web Dispatchers.  I have read "Sizing the SAP Web Dispatcher" deck.
    (1)  Once SAPS are established, how is this extrapolated to hardware sizing?  (1a) Do I need to speak with a h/w vendor to understand the host system's SAPS capability?
    (2)  If the system is virtual, how many SAPS do I allocate for VMWare?
    (3)  For an SSL termination scenario, can anyone proffer a rule of thumb for server size depending on Messages/Second (ie for 1000 messages/second, how many 2 (2.4 GHz CPU) x 4 (GB RAM) servers with a single WD instance are required)?
    All thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sawyer

    Hi Samuli, SCN,
    Thanks for the info.
Per (3), I was searching for something generic, although it's probably infeasible as #SAPS/server model can change drastically with the slightest config difference.  One could look to SAP Benchmark Results for a server certification (with #SAPS capabilities) if the HW vendor had benchmarked the server config in mind.  Since our HW vendor did not, I've worked with them to understand the SAPS capabilites of our server config.
    Another thing:
From that same deck, when estimating "average number of messages per user interaction step" for the WD sizing equation, does it make sense to double the number of requests detailed in a Portal ADC trace?
    My reasoning:
In another SCN question, you thought in the context of WD sizing, messages are HTTP(S) requests, GETs, or POSTs.  Makes sense.  From Portal ADC data, I've gleaned the total number of users and their requests during the peak hour.  Since the WD acts as an application gateway/reverse proxy (incoming HTTP(S) requests are forwarded by the WD to an App Server ICM, then the App Server's response is returned to the client back through the WD), for every client request, two messages flow across the WD.
    Thanks,
    Sawyer

  • Sizing of global portal

    Hi ,
I am little confused  about sizing of global portal.
As global portal is exposed to the internet users. How do we determine  no of internet users,  those are going to use portal ,for quick sizer?
    Also In quick sizer , TTI (ime Interval ) column , there are (Y)year, (P)Period,S(snapshot )  , (H)our.
Now what will be the value for Period & snapshot?

    Hi,
How do we determine no of internet users, those are going to use portal
You'll have to make a guess! How many guest users do you expect? What do you think how many people will use the portal? When you have 2.000 users in the backend, how many of them will do a logon every day / hour for how long (30 min, 1h, 3h)?
This data depends on your project.

  • Sizing Portal 7 + BI

    Hello,
We are upgrading a BI/Portal environment up to NW 7.0. Considering that in BI7 the report engine resides in the portal server, I would like to know if we have to make a new sizing of the portal server, because of this aditional load.
Is there any document about that?
Quicksizer for Portal doesn't consider BI reports.
    Thanks in advance, Gustavo

Could you please tell what versions you're on currently. Is a BW system already in place? Are you upgrading it to BI and include BI java usage along with portal on the same box as portal?

  • Sizing issue for query runtime in portal

I have activated 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN and can view my queries in EP. But problem is my entire query result is not getting fitted in one page in portal. I have checked the settings at the run time in portal. Do I have to change the settings of 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN? Please suggest.

    Hi,
For the analysis item in template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN the parameter 'BLOCK_COLUMNS_SIZE' (Number of Data Columns Displayed at once) is set to 4. The parameter 'BLOCK_ROWS_SIZE' (Number of Data Rows displayed at once) is set to 17.
If you want to change those parameters you can create a copy of the standard template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN, change the parameters to the value you want and afterwards save the copy. You can maintain the new template in transaction SPRO -> SAP Reference IMG -> SAP NetWeaver -> Business Intelligence -> Settings for Reporting and Analysis -> BEx Web -> Set Standard Web Templates in order to make this template your new standard web template. Changing the template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN itself is not recommended.
    Best regards,
    Janine
