Porting from Oracle RDB to 9i
Hi
We are looking to move from OpenVMS to UNIX and one of the activities that needs to be planned is to move the database from RDB to 9i.
I have tried (and failed) to find any information on this from the web, and hence I am posting this here in the hope that someone can point me in the right direction.
Is there a tool that can be used to do this? If not, is there any simple way this can be acheived?
Open to suggestions!

Have you looked into the Oracle Migration Workbench? That helps you migrate from various databases to Oracle. I'm not certain, but I would suspect that it supports RDB migration.

Porting from Oracle 10g AS to Oracle 11g Weblogic server
Hi,
I am trying to port J2EE applicatin from Oracle 10g AS to Oracle 11g Weblogic Server. I have jsp files which contains sql code embedded to fetch data from the DB. The components used in this application are Java, JSP, Servlets and Stateless session beans.
I have a commonjar which is used to create DB Connection manager and other common stuff which is present inside web-inf/lib. My application is packaged as an ear and which contains the war and different ejb-project.jar files. When the Stateless bean is trying to call the ConnectionManager class, which is present inside the commonjar inside web-inf/lib, I get InvocationTargetException. When I debugged in Eclipse, I see that that inside ejb the reference ConnectionManager, the variable cannot be resolved. So I guess at runtime, ejb is not able to locate ConnectionManager Class.
I tried to copy this jar to APP-INF/lib and the same jar is present inside web-inf/lib as well. In that case what happens is the jsp fails with the exception ConnectionManager cannot be resolved.
How can I make the ejb work by keeping the commonjar inside web-inf/lib alone.
Any help or suggestions?

RajThe classloader hierarchy in WLS looks like this (arrows denote inheritance direction):
Java bootstrap classloader <- Java CLASSPATH classloader <- WLS $DOMAIN_HOME/lib classloader <- Application (e.g., EAR) classloader <- web app classloader <- single JSP classloader
The Connection Manager is loaded by the web app classloader while the EJBs are loaded by the application classloader so the EJBs have no visibility to the classes loaded by the child (web app) classloader.
The simplest fix might be to move the Connection Manager jar file to the EAR file's APP-INF/lib directory.
One word of caution though, you need to be using WebLogic Server's Data Sources and JDBC connection pooling to make sure that you correct transactional behavior if the application is doing any sort of JTA transaction (regardless of whether the JTA transactions are using XA or not...).

I have made a PJC to use a RS232 port from oracle forms for Hypercom POS terminal..
Here is my code (in short i will post a component on PJC site (here I can't post a complete code because of 30000 char limit ;) )..
If you look in method "public void init(IHandler handler) " I make a download of rxtxSerial.dll from my forms server and then I call System.loadLibrary("rxtxSerial");"
In other way you must put the dll in windows/system32 path.. This dll is native library for rs232 communication.
If you look at the method "public void doTransaction" you can see the initialization of comm port...
With inputStream and OutputStream you read and write datas to/from your rs232 port..
p.s: the code is not complete but you can see how I made the rs232 communication (also the code is not final ;) )

How to migrate the data from DEC RDB 5.1 to Oracle 11g

As part of my project, we need to migrate the data from DEC RDB 5.1 present on Alpha server with VMS 6.1 OS into Oracle 11g. The size of the data in DEC RDB is around 40 GB.
Could you please suggest various ways of getting this done in easy and simpler way?

when Oracle bought Rdb from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in 1994, the name of the product changed from DEC Rdb to Oracle Rdb. Meanwhile the actual version of Rdb is 7.2, so you are on a VERY old version. And that excludes the suggestions from the mentioned note to use a database link from Oracle RDBMS to Rdb, that is simply not possible with that old version of Rdb.
But Rdb 5.1 knew already the Rdb Management Utility (RMU) - I just checked that with Rdb 4.1 which is even older.
There are two commands that are helpful for your task.
RMU/EXTRACT - that writes the metadata into a file. That output helps you to build a script to create all the objects in your target database.
RMU/UNLOAD - that writes the data of each table into a formatted file (one file per table). That output can be used by the SQL*Loader to load your data into the target database.
You can read all details about these commands in the online help on your Alpha. At first, issue the HELP command and look in the output list whether it lists a command RMU or RMU51. Then run that command:
$ help rmu /extract
and
$ help rmu /unload
Replace rmu by rmu51 if the help command shows you that rmu51 exists but not rmu.
There is one caveat. Do you use blobs in your Rdb database? If you don't know that, create an the output with RMU/EXTRACT and search the output file for the string LIST OF BYTE VARYING. If there are none then you have no blobs. If you have some you need to take more care of them, they can't be unloaded into a formatted file, that must happen programmatical. If you have such fields then let me know, then I'll tell you how to get them out of your Rdb database.

It sounds like *Instant Client Package - ODBC: Additional libraries for enabling ODBC applications instantclient-odbc-win32-11.1.0.6.0.zip (725,154 bytes) is only the ODBC drivers (which is what I want), i do not want to install Oracle Client as I already have Oracle 11g DB install. I am testing windows ODBC applications with Oracle11g, hence the need for the Oracle11g ODBC drivers.

Now when i try to connect to server using Oracle RDB ODBC driver, it says that connection is refused. I am able to ping to my server machine from client.

there is an application 'adrci.exe', Forget adrci. (it's just an extraneous tool)
Follow installation instructions. (should include copying oci.dll and oraociei11.dll to a new folder of your choice)

If anything needs to set in environment variable, please let me know, how to do. I haven't worked on environment variables.Depends on your OS.

Click Environment Variables.... In System variables section in bottom half, scroll down to Path. Select Path line and click Edit...

Oracle Rdb Driver 3.1.0.0 problem with blobs
I am trying to convert an MsAccess application to use an MsAccess front end and an Oracle Rdb back end.
I've created the test database under VMS and can successfully link to the Oracle Rdb tables from MSAccess 2000. One of the main reasons for converting to Oracle Rdb is to be able to store large word documents in the database. I was able to do that using Oracle rdb Driver v 3.00.02.06. I recently converted to Oracle Rdb Driver version 3.1.0.0 and can no longer access the Blob field containing the Word document. MsAccess now sees this field as type Binary and I keep getting an invalid field type error. (with 3.00.02.06 this field was seen by MsAccess as an Ole Object and the getchunk and appendchunk functions for getting and saving a blob worked reasonably well).
Is this a bug in 3.1.0.0 or is there some way to get MsAccess to recognize this Binary field type?I suspect you'll need to contact Oracle support on this. There aren't, to my knowledge, any RDB folks around here.

Tnsping timed out using dg4odbc from Oracle to MYSQL through ODBC

Since the application which runs on MYSQL DB only offers ODBC driver on Windows platform, so I installed the 32-bit ODBC driver (from ServiceNow) on a 32-bit windows server (driver download from http://wiki.service-now.com/index.php?title=ODBC_Driver) .

I don't know why only the tnsping from Linux failed, is it due to the 32-bit ODBC uncompatibility with 64-bit oracle server? or my configuration problem?

I'm not sure if that extension has been upgraded for sql developer 4. Extensions written for previous versions won't work in sql developer 4 - they need to be modified to support the OSGI framework.
Leave the thread open until one of the sql developer team members can answer this.

Special Note Regarding Extensions Developed Prior to SQL Developer
v4.0:
With the new release of SQL
Developer 4.0, an extension that was written for a previous version of SQL
Developer will no longer work. SQL Developer is built on the JDeveloper
Framework. We have updated the framework to be current with the JDeveloper 12c
release. With JDeveloper 11gR2, they switched to an OSGI framework. The JDeveloper team has published instructions for updating your extensions to be compatible with
the new framework and SQL Developer v4.0.
The Check for Updates interface
has been updated to hide any 3rd party extensions to avoid confusion with
extensions not loading. Once you have updated your extension for version 4 and
beyond, let us know, and we'll update the system to make it available again. For
questions regarding the process of going from the old to new framework, we have
started a dedicated
thread on the Forums. You can also email the Product Manager, Jeff Smith, to
setup a call with one of our developers for additional assistance.
As that note says if that extension is NOT for version 4 it shouldn't show up on the list of updates. -
Send E-mail from Oracle (9.2.0.1) : SMTP transient error: 421 Service not a
I have used Oracle 9i server (9.2.0.1 version) on Windows XP machine(with SP2).I want to send Email from PL/SQL procedure.
My Question is what sort of configuration needed to perform this activity?
I have installed IIS (Internet Information Service)
in my machine, then configure my SMTP mail server
with a valid email id and password given TCP port 465.
Later I came to know that to send Email from PL/SQL I have to install Oracle JServer Code. Follow three steps. the steps are
1. Execute the script as sys "$ORACLE_HOME\javavm\install\initjvm.sql"
2. Execute the loadjava classfile as
$ORACLE_HOME\plsql\jlib>loadjava -f -v -r -u sys/**** plsql.jar
3. Execute the script as sys "$ORACLE_HOME\rdbms\admin\initplsj.sql"
I sucessfully executed the first step, but for the second step iam not able to locate the plsql.jar file in the specified path.
So Please tell me if there is any other method to perform this task

Thank You.1) Why did you install an SMTP server locally and then tell your code to try to use the server mail.google.com?
2) The error you're getting is from mail.google.com indicating that Google isn't running an open SMTP server there. I would be very surprised if Google were running a publicly available SMTP server anywhere since that would be an invitation for spammers.

I uninstalled Firefox from my computer, then I reinstalled it and tried to run it, but this message appeared, "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" and Firefox does not open at all.
