Porting OCI Application from Solaris 2.6 to 8.0

Hi everyone,
I have a code written on solaris 2.6 platform with Oracle 8.1.7 version. Now recently my co. shifted to Solaris 2.8 i.e 8.0.
Do I need to change any stuff in my application code or any changes to the oracle makefile.
Can anybody helped me .........
Thanks in advance
Kshitij

If the Oracle is supported on the new operating system, you don't have to make any changes to the application. All OCI apps are expected to run unchanged on supported platforms. They are extremely portable, assuming of course the application itself is.

  • What is the best way to port complete applications from DEV - Test - PRD?

    Hi,
One of my customers recently asked me, Supposing I do the complete integrations and modelling in SOA Suite on the DEV Environment. Then,
What is the best way to port complete applications from DEV -> Test -> PROD ??
Also, since the URLs in use in the DEV environment would be very different from other environments, what is the easiest way to maintain them, and to build in Access Control mechanisms ?

    Hi AJ,
    Nice PDF !
Though the PDF does give a basic idea as to how we can go about the deployments using ANT and EM in Test and Prod, it doesn't really give extensive details. For eg. ANT would obviously need huge ANT scripts to be written for migrations to multiple Test servers, etc.
Similarly, when we talk about EM, does it mean each of the services has to be manually deployed on Production ?
I am sure we would be looking more towards a fully automated solution. No ?

since the URLs in use in the DEV environment would be very different from other environments, what is the easiest way to maintain them, and to build in Access Control mechanisms ?You may use deployment plan for this purpose. For access control, you may use Role Based access of Weblogic and EM. Please refer -

  • Porting j2ee application from Weblogic to Oracle 10g AS

What are the common guidelines/consideration when we port a J2EE application on Oracle Application server 10g. from WebLogic 8.1. If you have some inputs on pin points/guidelines/Architecture decisions that we might need to consider when we port a J2EE application on different J2EE application server
I got the link for app server migration but it is broken :
    http://www.oracle.com/consulting/technology/appserver_migration_ds.pdf
Our application uses the following J2EE components
    1. JDBC 2.0
    2. JNDI
    3. DAO
    4. EJB
    5. JMS
    6. JAAS
    7. JAVA Mails.
    8. Servlets, JSP’s
I can think following point that needs to take care while porting
    1. Its deployment configuration vis-a-vis the apps on top
    2. The APIs it exposes (actually the information it allows the apps to pass in to the framework
    3. The data it encapsulates (in order to be app-server agnostic; does it need to be now exposed to apps?)
    Some J2EE specific areas
    1. JNDI usage and exposure to apps 2. Properties files/XML files
    2. Location specification 3. Resource bundle location specification
    4. EJB deployment descriptors
    5. Class/jar references between wars and ears
    6. Jar sharing model across ears
    7. Class loader differences across app-servers
    8. JMS settings (queues, topics, factories, durability etc)
    9. UI tags 10. Startup services
    11. Managed services (JMX)
    12. Security context passing
    13. Clustered configurations if any and how they port across app-servers
    Thanks

  • Porting PCI board from Solaris Intel to Sparc

Our own PCI board which has been working on Solaris(8) Intel for years does not seem to be recognized by Solaris(8) for Sparc. At the prom level a show-devs shows the device ie: pci1234,5678 but booting with 'boot -rswv' does not. Two questions:
    1. Is the process of scanning hardward and making entries in the /devices directory documented anywhere that I might access?
    2. What might be different between Solaris-Intel and Solaris-Sparc when dealing with PCI devices?
The platform for our testing is an AXE-300 3 slot PCI Ultra Sparc.
    Thanks in advance
    [email protected]
    (781)-482-1215

The 'prtconf -pv' command does show the presence of our board
pretty much matching what is displayed when running prtconf on
the Intel system with the exception that the Intel results under the
'compatible:' header shows a series of 32 bit hex values while the
Sparc output for 'compatible:' shows "'pci1234,5678' +
    'pciclass,ff0000'".
    Furthermore running:
    truss -f -a add_drv -v -m '* 0666 root bin' -i '"pci1234,5678"' pixgen
seems to show the point of failure occurring in 'devfsadm -v -i pixgen'
as follows: (note I've cleaned up the output a bit for readability).
    open("/devices/pseudo/devinfo@0:devinfo", O_RDONLY) = 5
    ioctl(5, 0xDF81, 0xFFBEF8F8) Err#6 ENXIO
    close(5)
devfsadm then returns an exit code=11 and reports that the driver
was 'successfully added ... but failed to attach'.
I added a number of trace statements to each entry point in the
driver using the cmn_err function and compiled for Intel and Sparc
and verified that the driver continued to work on Intel and indeed
showed each routine being entered but I never got even one line
of output on the Sparc. That presents a couple of questions.
    1. I'm using an old compiler: Sun's CC workshop Compiler 4.2 30
Oct 1996 on both platforms. The Sparc platform is a sun4m (ss-10).
Is it possible that this old compiler is not generating proper code for
the sun4u platform? The compiler and linker switches are:
    cc -xstrconst -DKERNEL -DDEBUG -DPIXGENDEBUG=255 -c driver.c
    ld -r -m -o pixgen driver.o
pkgadd installs the driver as /usr/kernel/drv/pixgen
    2. The driver installation using pkgadd places the following line in
    /etc/devlink.tab: 'type=io;minor=pixgen0 pixgen'. Is this
    possibly an issue?
Any help/insight would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • When will IAS support Message Driven Beans?  My group needs to port an application from WebLogic to iPlanet which is using MDBs.  Also, when will all of the EJB 2.0 specification be implmented?

    Tim,
We will have development-only support for MDBs in the 6.5 release which is scheduled to release this month. The full EJB 2.0 spec will be supported in the next iteration of the product which is scheduled to be released in the summer.

I want to know any technical doucument or metalink tech note regarding this migration.current OS

    Hi,
I understand that the OP want to migrate from one server to another, and he is not going to upgrade the OS on the same machine.

  • Using XA Library from with OCI application

Are there any sample/demo programs that illustrate how to use the XA interface from within an OCI application? In particular, I'm wondering about the association between the OCI session and the xa_open() session -- how can one use OCI calls after establishing a session using xa_open()?
    Thanks,
    Steve

After xa_open(), you may want to use xaoSvcCtx(databasename) to get OCISvcCtx and xaoEnv(databasename) to get OCIEnv. Use these for OCI calls. Oracle OCI/XA documentation should have sample programs.

  • How to return a OCI Table * (nested table) from OCI application to sqlplus

    Hi,
How to return a OCI Table * (nested table) from OCI application to sqlplus prompt : OCITAble * shows up as empty on the SQLPLUS prompt.
The ODCIAggregateTerminate member function's OUT parameter is OCITable * returnValue. After completion of this member function it displays data on the sqlplus prompt.
My problem is that eventhough my OCITable(returnvalue) has elements appended or added to it. But when I return the OCITAble after completion
of this member function the OCITable shows up as empty collection on the SQLPLUS prompt. But in the OCI code if I iterate through the collection
I can print out the elements and see their values or data.
Can any one let me know how I can make the elements or data in the collection available at SQLPLUS prompt after the completion of this member function.
If my return value or OUT parameter of this member function is OCINumber * returnValue : then I can see the corresponding value assigned in the OCI Code
and the same value is returned and visible on the SQLPLUS prompt. But when I use the OUT parameter as OCITAble * : then it shows up as empty collection.
I don't really know why is it happening so.

    > Can anyone pls let me know if there is some way to return an entire table from a function which
is called from a stored procedure?
    For what purpose?
Do you realise that this means pulling Megabytes (or even many Gugabytes) of data from disk, into the buffer cache, and then copying that data into PL/SQL memory (using a function) in order to give a stored proc that data?
This is just plain crazy.. resource wise, performance wise, scalability wise.. this is exactly how NOT to use Oracle.
Why don't you instead tell us what problem you want to solve. Forget for the moment what you think the solution should be. (and asking us how to get a potentially flawed solution, to work)
Let's get an accurate problem definition so that we can provide you with suggestions and recommendation on what Oracle features can be used to address that problem.

  • Migrating C/C++Development environment from Solaris 6 OS to Solaris 10 OS.

    Hi,
I have several questions. Hope i can get some advises.
I am tasks to do a migration for my current Development environment from Solaris 6 OS to Solaris 10 OS.
    Current Scenaros:
    =============
    My Development environment is on Solaris 6 OS machine ( 5.6 Generic_105181-31 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-2 )
and where i did my C/C++ codings and compilation for my company software application.
    We have purchased a new machine Solaris 10 OS machine ( 5.10 Generic_125100-07 sun4u sparcSUNW,Sun-Fire-V210 )
with the objective to replace the old development H/W and OS.
The machine ( Solaris 6 OS) where the software application currently is running will also be replace with a new machine ( Solaris 10 OS).
The Software application is purely C/C++ codings and has no database requirements.
The application is make up of several executables and they utilise the Solaris Unix queues.
The source codes are compiled using Sun compiliers and libraries.
    Problems:
    ========
    I did the followings:
    1. Installed the Solaris 10 OS machine with all the necessary compilers and libraries for my C/C++ codes.
    2. I ported over all my sourcecodes and makefiles from the old machine ( Solaris 6 ) to the new machine ( Solaris 10 )
    3. I did a recompilation of the source codes on the new Solaris 10 machine and hit many errors as followings:
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/rstream.h", line 46: Error: The name istream is ambiguous, istream and std::istream.
"/opt/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/rstream.h", line 46: Error: The type "istream" is incomplete.

    Questions:
    ========
    1. Can anyone advise on these errors messages that i am seeing?

    Regards,

    I did the followings:

    Questions:
    ========
    1. Can anyone advise on these errors messages that i am seeing? My guess would be that the names have changed from Solaris 6 to Solaris 10.
    2. Can i say that as long i can successful recompile my codes on Solaris 10 , my application will work? No. I've seen GNU utilities that compile without error and then fail on make test or make check. A clean compile only means that, a clean compile nothing more.
    3. Can i simply copy my application ( Compiled in Solaris 6 ) directly to the new Solaris 10 machine and expect it to run properly? What are the concerns if i adopt this approach. It might. The easiest way to find out is to just move it and see what happens. On a test machine of course.

  • I want to remove the COnlineBank, OnlineBank and csample applications from my application and web server.

How can I safely do this on Solaris? I've tried "iasdeploy removeapp" and "iasdeploy removemodule" with no luck. I want to clear all of this demo stuff out to make both the web and app server look more production like.
    Thanks
    Eric

    Eric,
these applications are applogics which are not controlled by the
iasdeploy tool. Unfortunately, there is no tool available to remove
these applications for you. What you can do is to manually remove all
their entries, but be careful if you do that. If you remove the wrong
keys you might break your ias installation, so be warned and make sure
you backup the whole ias registry before attempting to remove anything.

  • What is the easiest way to open an application from Labview?

I need to open an application from labview and depending on a user's selection, load one out of a group of files for the application that is opened. I need to know what is the best or easiest way to open an application and load a file that is used by the application based on a selection.

Here is the response that I got from Cognex when I asked them about how to do this. Do you understand what they are talking about?
In order to do something like this you will probably want to look into the Display Control/SDK for In-Sight. The Display Control gets installed along with In-Sight Explorer and includes a control that can be used in an environment like Labview to communicate with In-Sight sensors while the SDK is an enhanced version of the Display Control that gives you more control and functionality. I am not very familiar with the Labview environment so I will give some code snippets in VB.Net and hopefully you can adjust them as necessary. Specifically I see 3 possible avenues to do this:
     1) Using the Display Control you have access to many of the dialog boxes that are used in In-Sight Explorer including the Load Job dialog box. You can spawn this dialog box through a line of code similar to cvsInSightDisplay1.Edit.OpenJob.Execute(). I am not certain if the Labview environment will be able to spawn and display this dialog though. 2) With the addition of the SDK (additional purchase) you can directly access sensor properties including the job. There is a method called LoadJobFile to load jobs from on the sensor and LoadJobFileLocally to load jobs from the host machine. A typical line of code might be cvsInSightDisplay1.InSight.File.LoadJobFile("myjob1.job").3) If Labview cannot handle the dialogs and the SDK is not an option for you then you may still be able to do this using Native Mode commands. Native Mode commands are sent through a socket on the telnet port (typically port 23). Keep in mind that you will need to handle the username/password prompt and response when you first open the socket before issuing any Native Mode commands. The command to load a job file from the sensor would be the Load File command which would be a string similar to "LF myjob1.job". The Native Mode commands are documented in the In-Sight Explorer help file.

    Hello TomB,
Could you elaborate a bit on your explanation? I'm having the same problem as talk2srujan. I currently have an application which works fine in weblogic81 and, when migrated to weblogic103, fails at deployment time. The error I get is: unable to find EndPointFinder for tibjmsnaming://host:port
We didn't have to register any foreign servers in weblogic81, should I do this in weblogic103?
Could you also give a pointer to the known bug you mentioned?
    Thanks in advance,
