Portlet - dataUrl JSF
Hi,
I have a requirement to make an AJAX call to a JSF Portlet to retrieve some data. I coed as per the steps given in Weblogic portal JSF whitepaper (page 90).
But when i make the AJAX call to the dataUrl, i get the data with the mark-up as a portlet and not just the data. Also, the page called by AJAX has the following contentType set to "application/json;charset=UTF-8".
How do I just get the data and not the entire markup?
Thanks.

JSF was designed to support portlets, so you are OK on that side. If that were true, then why the need for bridges?

Is there a way to use jsf in pdk portlets? Or a least does someone have experience writing some kind of wrapper provider for jsr168 portlet.
thanks for advanceHave you tried one of the following (just toughts):
a) Just bundle the portlet-bridge-jsf.jar from Jdev (JDEV_HOME\adfp\lib\)
b) Use the JSF/Portlet Bridge from dev.java.net (https://jsfportletbridge.dev.java.net/public/Download.html)
c) Use portlets-bridges-jsf (http://portals.apache.org/bridges/multiproject/portals-bridges-jsf/index.html)
d) MyFaces comes with a portlet-bridge (http://wiki.apache.org/myfaces/UsingPortletUtil)
e) Use Spring-Portlet-MVC (Springframework 2.0.3), and use JSF as the View technology
So, there are a lot of possible solutions out there, just have to find out, what helps you most. (I'M myself on the Spring-Portlet-MVC path, and hope that I get ADF-Faces working, somehow. All on Java 1.4 and on Oracle iAS10gR2). -
Can i make portlet by JSF or ADF
Hi All
can I make portlet by JSF or ADF ?
if I can , what do I need to deply it
which version of infrastructure and middle-tier to deply it?
do I need web-cetener OR SOA Suite ?
thanksGood question !
I would also like to know what is required to build and run an AJAX-enabled JSF page inside an Oracle portlet. There seem to be a few options for each component:
JDeveloper ? 10.1.3.2 with WebCenter /or 11g preview
JSF ? Oracle ADF Faces 11g tech preview /or Apache Trinidad 1.2.1
OC4J portlet container ? 10.1.3.2 /or 11g preview
Portal Faces Bridge ? which version ...
Portal Server ? which version ...
WSRP protocol ? v1 /or v2 ...
This is a great start:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/adffaces/11/doc/demo/adf_faces_rc_demo.html
which says you can run the ADF Faces 11g preview on the OC4J 11g preview, either standalone or embedded in the JDev 11g preview, but it doesn't mention portlets.
These are also good links for older JSF-in-a-portlet:
http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/2007/02/02#a315
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/viewlets/1013/portletize_jsf_pages_viewlet_swf.html
but are based on JDev 10.1.3.2 WebCenter, and don't mention the new Rich Client AJAX-enabled technology previews.
This is good for Trinidad integration:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/1013/trinidad/trinidad.html
but is also based on 10.1.3.2 and does not mention portlets.
I suppose it comes down to the availability of a Portal Faces Bridge library for the new preview, and whether there are any dependencies on the WSRP protocol and the Portal Server ????

JSR 168 Portlets with JSF Content
Is there any news on the possibility of achieving this.
Should I go ahead and do it myself using MyFaces and the Apache Portals JSF Bridge? (or try and leverage the WebSphere JSF tooling using the Apache Portals JSF Bridge)? Or use the Sun JSF-Portlet Bridge?
Thanks,
DonDon,There is a JSR-168 / JSF portlet bridge that I tested on our portal a few months ago that worked pretty well. It required a lot of changes to the faces-config.xml file and the addition of a bridge jar. I think it also had some drawbacks in regards to the use of sub-views in a JSF page.If you are not tied to using JSR-168, a better solution might be the new JSF filter, which is similar to what we do with .NET Web controls. It allows JSF applications to run as portlets and refreshes the portlet using in-place-refresh (AJAX). This filter is simple to set up, well documented, and can be found at: http://portal.plumtree.com/portal/server.pt?space=CommunityPage&cached=true&parentname=CommunityPage&parentid=0&in_hi_userid=63776&control=SetCommunity&CommunityID=2758&PageID=5913under the name "Java Portlet Tools".Let me know which solution you are interested in. The JSF / JSR-168 bridge is available from Sun as development source code but you will probably want to use some of the helper classes that I wrote for it. These classes are not publically available, but I can send you a jar if that's what you need.Andy

Jetspeed 2 - developing portlets using JSF
Hi All,
I think Jetspeed 2 is very different from Jetspeed 1.X , they now support JSR-168 and the interface is very nice with its own cms.
I am very new to it, but i think the new release is pretty nice for open source portal. It sure looks much nicer then Jboss portal.
Can someone help me, ive developed a portlet in JSC 2 but i dont understand how jetspeed is deploying portlets, i did everything, deployed portled OK and wrote psml file and placed it in pages folder of jetspeed.
It uses maven which i am very unfamiliar with. Can someone describe please what it means to rebuild portal?
Anyways the error that i get is " cannot find description " or somethign of the sort.
If someone is willing to help me out, please contact me at [email protected]
Thank you kindly,
SergeHello,
Just put the portlet war file into "webapps/jetspeed/WEB-INF/deploy" -

Edited by: mnp on Jul 1, 2010 7:29 AMDoes JDev support portlet development for non-OracleAS java containers?
Portlets developed in JDeveloper may be deployed to another application server that supports portlets.
Are the Web Center Suite / Portlet Development tools a plug-in for Jdeveloper?
The WebCenter extension for JDeveloper is pre-configured in JDeveloper.
Currently I use JDeveloper ADF BC / JSF and deploy to Tomcat; I'd like to include portlets in our web application.

How to open a jsp page inside a portlet directly ,Cannot find FacesContext
Hi
Thank you for reading my post.
I have a portlet (a jsf portlet build by JSC) , now i need to open a window that
will show some information , i managed to open the pop-up and pass some parameters to popup
but right now , i do not know what is my jsp file url
as you know portlets are deployed diffrent than plain web jsf application.
I find that if i use
http://localhost:28080/Adv/viewMessageDetails.jsp?messageID=10
it will open the page , but unfortunetly it return an error like :
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the web application. Please review the following stack trace for more information regarding the error.

and some stack trace.
how i can fix this problem ?
thank youIn portlet project, to navigate between pages, you should not use the URL property to link to a page. Instead, portlets use navigation via action handling. You use the Page Navigation editor to set up links to pages; that is, the navigation editor sets the action property.
Here is an example to hyperlink ans button to open a new page:
# From within the IDE, create a new portlet project. This action creates the project and one page, PortletPage1.jsp.
# Create a second portlet page, called PortletPage2.jsp, for the project.
# Drop a Hyperlink component onto the first portlet page, PortletPage1. (You can drop the Hyperlink on the page in the Design window or on the PortletPage1 node in the Outline window.) Change the Hyperlink's text property to Next Page.
# Drop a Button component (found in the Basic section of the Palette) onto the second portlet page, PortletPage2.
# Open the Page Navigation Editor. It displays the two pages (PortletPage1.jsp and PortletPage2.jsp) of the application.
# Click the PortletPage1.jsp icon in the Navigation window to expand it, and then drag a connector from hyperlink1 to PortletPage2.jsp. Change the name of the connector from case1 to Page2.
# Click the PortletPage2.jsp icon in the Navigation window to expand it, and then drag a connector from button1 to PortletPage1.jsp. Change the name of the connector from case1 to Page1.
# Run and deploy the portlet. The browser displays PortletPage1 and you should see the Next Page hyperlink. When you click the Next Page hyperlink, the Apache Pluto Portal server displays PortletPage2. Click the Page2 button to return to PortletPage1.

JSF Navigation issue with Webcenter OC4J and Open Portal JSF Bridge
Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody had experienced the same issue as per below:
I have a problem using the Open Portal JSF Portlet Bridge within a oracle webcenter OC4J. I have a trivial application with 2 jsps. The first has a single button, which when pushed navigates to the second screen.
This app works fine as a stand alone web app and also via the Oracle Faces Bridge using the OC4J. However, when I deploy using the jsfportletbridge 1.1.4 (I'm using the JSF 1.1) - it will not navigate from the first page. It simply refreshes the first page when clicked.
It looks like there is a problem with navigation. I have traced out the application (which I will include in full below), however the entries which looked relevant were (this occured after the first page was rendered):
07/06/05 23:49:19 [DEBUG] StateManagerImpl - Begin restoring view in session for viewId /hello.jsp
07/06/05 23:49:19 [DEBUG] StateManagerImpl - Session Available, but View State does not exist for viewId: /hello.jsp
07/06/05 23:49:19 [TRACE] LifecycleImpl - Creating new view '/hello.jsp'
My gut feel is that state is not being retained between requests, so it is just recreating the same view, however I'm at a loss to explain why
Attached below are the files used & trace log:

07/06/05 23:49:20 [TRACE] FacesPortlet - End FacesPortlet.render()I'm missing some things in your portlet.xml deployment descriptor.
It looks like your application doesn't make use of a JSF binding layer, so it should be enough to initialize a Faces lifecycle listener like this:
<init-param>
<name>DefaultPage.view</name>
<value>/index.jspx</value>
</init-param>
<init-param>
<name>BridgeLifecycleListeners</name>
<value>
oracle.portlet.server.bridges.jsf.adf.ADFFacesBridgeLifecycleListener
</value>
</init-param>
The DefaultPage.view parameter specifies the default page of the application to use as the View mode for the portlet. Its location is relative to the web-app-context-root and always start with a /.
The BridgeLifecycleListeners parameter specifies the filter classes to use. You must ensure that your portlet.xml file is configured to match the filters specified in your web.xml file. If you do not have the proper classes defined in portlet.xml, then you will receive a missing class error. You specify the classes in the BridgeLifecycleListeners init-param in your portlet.xml file:
<init-param>
<name>BridgeLifecycleListeners</name>
<value>listener_class_n[,listener_class_n+1,...]</value>
</init-param>
For example, suppose that your application includes AdfFacesFilter filter in its web.xml:
<filter>
<filter-name>adfFaces</filter-name>
<filter-class>oracle.adf.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilter</filter-class>
</filter>
You would then need to include the following class in your portlet.xml:
<init-param>
<name>BridgeLifecycleListeners</name>
<value>oracle.portlet.server.bridges.jsf.adf.ADFFacesBridgeLifecycleListener
</value>
</init-param>
Similarly, suppose that ADFBindingFilter filter is defined in web.xml as follows:
<filter>
<filter-name>adfBindings</filter-name>
<filter-class>oracle.adf.model.servlet.ADFBindingFilter</filter-class>
</filter>
You would then need to include the following in your portlet.xml:
<init-param>
<name>BridgeLifecycleListeners</name>
<value>oracle.portlet.server.bridges.jsf.adf.ADFFacesBridgeLifecycleListener,
oracle.portlet.server.bridges.jsf.adf.BindingFacesBridgeLifecycleListener
</value>
</init-param> -
Portlets in showOneTab do not function correctly
Hi!
I have created a WebCenter application in JDev 10.1.3. We have some JSF portlets (using JSF Portlet Bridge) and have grouped those on a webcenter page using a showOneTab component. I encounter the following problem: when the portlet contains an ADF table with more than, say, 10 records, I cannot scroll through the resultset anymore after having clicked on a tab.
The portlet on the first tab is functioning correctly (with table scrolling etc) until the tab header is clicked or another tab is activated.
The same problem occurs on a showOnePanel, so it probably is a problem with all showOne... components.
Is there a fix for this?
Regards,
Jeroen van VeldhuizenIt kind of depends how the equation is set in FM and what paragraph style follows. This affects the CSS setting used in the epub for the line height properties and consequently the paragraph separations. You might have to tweak the CSS being used in the epub.
If you're using an anchor paragraph to hold the equation, then it may suffice to play with the spacings for just that one paratag in FM. It's sometimes necessary to use a different FM template that makes adjustments to the paratags in order to optimize the outputs created by the Publish module. You can then specify that the tweaked template(s) be applied to your FM content during the Publish step. -
JSF support on Oracle 10.1.4 Portals
Hi,
We are planning to use Oracle Portals version 10.1.4
I have read that the new version of Portals can be used to publish JSF as portlets using JSF-Bridge (coming with Web center Suite).
This looks little expensive option..
Does Oracle Portals support use of JSF and struts ???
How about using ADF-struts ??
which is better and is supported in the new version 10.1.4 Portals??
We would like to use JSF specifications for our View components...what will be our best choice on Oracle Portals??
Please let me know
Thank you
MalathiIt will be an expensive one :)

JSF 1.2 RI and facelets
Hello, we have some component library that builds on JSF 1.2 RI and facelets. Usually JSF 1.2 cannot run on WLS 9.2 because it requires JSP 2.1 (thus weblogic 10). However,
since we use facelets and thus no JSP, in this case JSF 1.2 can run on WLS 9.2 (and it does work).
However to run as portlet, we need to use some JSF portlet bridge.
Does anyone have experience with this? We would like to try two ways:
1. Bridge to JSR 168 as local portlet, then run this afterwards as a WSRP remote portlet (once you have a local portlet running this should cause no issues).
We already have it running (with some issues, using the sun jsf portlet bridge which is tuned towards JSF 1.2) inside pluto, no I'll try out WLS portal and I would expect no extra issues since we already have a JSR-168 compliant portlet. What do you think?
2. Bridge directly to WSRP bypassing JSR 168. I read that BEA provides a bridge (which then can even run as a simple producer not requiring a portal domain but may run in a normal WLS domain) that does this. I do suspect that this bridge is specifically tuned to JSF 1.1 and JSP (maybe even to weblogic provided JSF tags) and it might be quite hopeless to get JSF 1.2 RI + facelets to run in this way.
Before wasting my time I would be grateful if someone could shed some light on this.
Regards,
Peter Mutsaers
Edited by mutsaers at 03/21/2007 5:49 AMI'm having issues with JSR 168 portlet with JSF v1.1 (Sun RI) on BEA Portal 9.2. See http://forums.bea.com/bea/thread.jspa?threadID=400002399. I've not had any luck with BEA support so far. It'll be great if you can share your thoughts/experiences with JSF and JSR 168.

BI portlet "Authentication error" on WebCenter
Hi, all
I'm trying to deploy BI reportUI portlet to WebCenter server.
Following the introduction on BI document:
1. Download sawjsr168portlets.war
2. Edit portlet.xml and set oracle.bi.presentation.sawserver.URL, oracle.bi.presentation.portlets.jsr168.reportui.AdminUserName and oracle.bi.presentation.portlets.jsr168.reportui.AdminPwd
3. Deploy the portlet to Jdevelper preconfigured OC4J successfully.
4. Consuming BI ReportUI portlet within JSF page
After I click "customize" of the generated "Oracle Business Intelligence Report View Portlet" and input the "report path", which is a qualified URL accessible on IE brower,
a error displays:
"Authentication error. Details: An invalid User Name or Password was entered."
Check the log file and find some error message like:
<sawsoape:Message>State: 08004. Code: 10018. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: 08004] [nQSError: 10018] Access for the requested connection is refused.
[nQSError: 43001] Authentication failed for PUBLIC in repository Star: invalid user/password. (08004)</sawsoape:Message>
I'm sure the admin user name and password are both set correctly in "portlet.xml" file.
Any suggestion or help are highly appreciated! Thanks.
regards,
Rongrong WangI was able to resolve the authentication error by securing the web center application using container based security.
I got a report to display on my page, but was getting the below error on my server logs:

Hello,
I am new to portlets. I have made a few portlets using JSF. Now I have to include tabbed portlets. I don't know where to start from. Please help me. I am inspired with the portlets at yahoo.com. I am wondering if I can design such interactive portlets. How do I start with tabbed portlets? Please help me by providing me material for this. I am sorry if this is the wrong forum...
Muhammad Kashif Nazar,
Software Engineer,
DigitaniaHow would you create a web page with tabs in it? It is done the same way in a portlet. A portlet is not significantly different from a servlet, the main difference is they can be added to to a page so that a single page can be running several portlets at the same time.
Tabs are really no more then a visual trick. Format a list of link horizontally and style them with rounded edges or what ever visual queue you desire. -
Handling Exception/Runtime Exception in JSF
Hi,
Any good pointers to documents describing proper error handling.
Not just navigation rules to an error.jsp file but also handling of runtime exceptions and exceptions in backing beans where you cannot use navigation rules (calling a method from JSF EL etc.).
I am developing jsr 168 portlets using jsf on websphere portal.
I can't get the error handling via web.xml to function and other places I can't manually make it go to an error.jsp in case of exceptions.
How to handle the runtime exception in JSF.
1. By including following tags in web.xml
<error-type>
<error-exception></error-exception>
<error-loaction>/error.jsp</error-loaction>
</error-type>
its not working.
2. If include the
<%@page errorPage="../error/GenericError.jsp" %>
in jsp page then
it is not forwading to error page giving asaertion failure exception
If we change the GenericError.jsp tag like
<f:view>
</f:view>
to
<f:subview>
</f:subview>
then it is going to error page but the
action inside the error page is not getting called its backing bean
Here is code of error.jsp
<%-- jsf:pagecode language="java" location="/JavaSource/pagecode/JSPs/ErrorPage1.java" --%><%-- /jsf:pagecode --%>
<%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
<%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/portlet" prefix="portlet"%>
<%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
<%@ page isErrorPage="true" %>
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
</head>
<body>
<div class="errorMessage"><%= exception.getLocalizedMessage() %></div>
<f:subview id="name">
<h:commandButton action="#{OSPMTASecurityBean.cancel}" value="submit"/>
</f:subview>
</body>
</html>If you would like to handle and navigate based on the exception type, this code would help you. btw I'm not familiar with portlet though.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/optionzero
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=666191
You can declare exception type and navigation in faces-config.xml in declarative manner like Struts global exception notion.
Please let me know it's useful or not.
thanks,
