Position Content vs. Flow Subforms w/XML

Hi:
Does position content versus flow content subform have any thing to do with the way the XML file is generated? For fields that are optional on my form, I'm getting a separate XML node that looks like:
This seems to be breaking my ADO code that inserts from the XML documents based on pdf files. I'm wondering why it's generated if it's not meaningful other than to indicate something like... this field has nothing in it!

The difference between "Position content" property and "Flow content" property in a subform is the subform with "Position content" property set will position the objects in the subform according to their X and Y coordinates whereas the subform with "flow content" property set will position the objects in the subform during the data merging process. This way, there are no objects are being renderred on top of each others.
The problem that you are experiencing is that you probably have the field placed inside a "flow content" subform. This results in getting additional XML node. By having this field placed some where else (not inside of a "Flow content" subform), you probably will not get unwanted XML nodes.

Flowed subforms not working with table

Hi,
I am having trouble getting nested subforms to "flow" correctly, without the content of the top subform expanding on top of the content for the second subform. Here's my situation:
I have a document saved in "dynamic format" that has 1 page, PageA, whose Content property is set to "Positioned".
On the page are 2 subforms, SubformQ & SubformR. These both have the subform Content property set to "Positioned". A 3rd subform, SubformB, is wrapped around SubformQ & SubformR. SubformB has the Content property set to "Flowed". SubformQ & SubformR are the same dimensions, and are aligned with SubformQ directly above SubformR.
Inside SubformQ are 2 fields - FieldX & TableY. Table Y is dynamic, and has the Row Min Count set to 2. In design mode only the header and 1 row; there is a button to add more rows dynamically when the form is compiled.
SubformR has 2 fields - FieldL & FieldM.
Here's the structure:
PageA - Positioned
SubformB - Flowed
SubformQ - Positioned
FieldX
Dynamic TableY + AddRowButton
SubformR - Positioned
FieldL
FieldM
My problem is that SubformQ keeps overlapping SubformR when the file is compiled. The "flow" isn't right. There are 2 situations in which this happens:
1) When the file is displayed in "Preview", TableY shows 2 rows which correspond to the value I set with Min Count. Unfortunately, this extra row does not push SubformR down like I want, it overlays SubformR.
2) When the "Add Row" button is hit for TableY, a new row is dynamically added. But this row once again further covers SubformR rather than dynamically pushing SubformR down the page.
Help! I don't know what I am doing wrong. Thanks.

Dynamic Forms and Flowing subforms -- Need help/Advice

Hello All -
I am creating a form for instructors at our college to complete. It has 3 pages, some static text, some required drop-down boxes, and three "comment" type areas which I would like to create so that they "flow" and display the entire contents when printed.
I've read everything I could find so far, but I think I am missing something quite basic.
I've created master pages, with a content subform on each one. I've placed all my content into subforms under that main content subform, named and ordered them the way they need to be. Most of it should appear as positioned. Only where there is one of the comment sections do I want/need the "flow content" option.
I tried following the directions I found in another thread. If I set the subform with the comment area to flow, then I never get the page break option (and it is needed) - it's always grayed out. When I try to set the underlying subform on the page to 'flow content', ALL of the content from all three pages ends up on one page, everything on top of each other.
What am I doing wrong?
Can anyone give me some tips as to where at least to start looking for what I've not done or done wrong?

Hi Lauren,
You only need one Master page, and there's no need to put anything on it unless you want a header/footer that repeats on each page.
If you want to have things flow from page to page, create one body page object, and set its content type to Flowed (the body page is itself a subform). In it you put subforms with text, fields, and so on in them. Since your form will spill from page to page based on how much text the instructors type into the expandable comments fields, break up the forms content into sections (subforms) such that the layout can break between the subforms without taking away from the readability. These subforms should have a content type of Position. Even though there's only one body page object in your design, since you have three pages worth of stuff, it will spill onto three pages.
Now for the comments fields, which you want to wrap and expand. Make sure that each of your comments fields is in its own subform. Set the field to allow multiple lines and, in the layout tab, click the box to Expand to Fit (height). For the subform that contains the comments field, set the height to auto-fit (layout tab). Also for the subforms that contain comments fields, experiment with the "Allow Page Breaks Within Content" checkbox on the Subform tab. If you expect an instructor to blab on for more than an entire page of text, you will have to select this box, but otherwise I suggest leaving it unselected so that the entire comment remains together.

Multi page flowed subforms - help/resources

Hi,
Im having trouble with "flow" and multi pages subforms.
I got a copy of JP Terry's book and also purchased the PDF bible - neither seem to have what i need.
My forms are about 6 pages long each, and i want them to expand a contract based on user interaction (ie they are asked to tick a checkbox to add another beneficiary etc on a number of occasions).
I can get the individual pages to expand and contract within themselves, but can not get subforms to flow properly over multiple pages.
This is really a problem for us, as we dont want big white spaces if the client does not tick yes for example.
Can anyone recommend a book, article or whatever on flowing multipage subforms
i am setting allow page breaks and expand to fit etc and still not working. im on ES 8.2 (acrobat 9 pro)..........
I tried to get the forms "finished off" by a contractor but they wanted 125 US (270 NEW Zealand dollars, or about 3 days average wages here) an hour which is a killer for a startup.....so any help or guidance much appreciated as were stuck... and have been for a month now......

Please see a working version of your form attached.
I used the following concepts to fix your issue:
"invisible" versus "hidden" - Setting a subform to invisible will hide all the subform's objects, but will preserve the whitespace. For a form to expand and contract you must set subform visibility to "hidden"
Positioned subforms have fixed height - Setting a positioned subform to "visible" will result in whitespace when some/all of its content is hidden
Flowed hierarchy - For a Flowed subform to collapse and expand correctly all of its parent subforms up the hierarchy to the root node must also be Flowed. A good test is to click on an object within the subform that is not flowing correctly and navigate up the hierarchy using the left arrow key whilst keeping an eye on the Subform pallet. Any content that is Positioned needs to be changed to Flowed
This resulted in the following changes in your form:
Change the initialise event on more_trustess from this.presence = "invisible"; to this.presence = "hidden";
Moved tee4-sub out of the positioned tee3-sub
Set p2 to Flowed

Adding a sub form between 2 flowed subforms

Hi...I'm attempting to add a sub form between 2 sub forms and make it flow.
I can add in my content, but I can't get it to push the content below it as it grows. I have it in a positioned subform and then wrapped in a flowed subform.
I attached my example so you can see what I'm talking about.
Specifically in the attached it's the text boxes that start with #1, #2, #3, etc....that grow but don't push down the content below them.

You had two issues:
1. The subforms containing the expanding fields (SF_DIV and Subform12) needed to be flowed
2. The subform (Subform11.Table2.Row1[2].untitled Subform) was flowed, but had a fixed height which prevented it from expanding
I also reduced the size of your form from 201KB to 14KB by turning off 'Embed Fonts' in Form Properties > Save Options

Application positioning content incorrectly

I am having an issue with the way ApplicationLayout is positioning content in Flex 3.2, I have a single container inside the Application tag and it is set to 100% and the scrollbar is on at the Application level.
When I step through ApplicationLayout I see the issue plainly enough:
When the viewMetrics is retrieved the code says that during layout it should take account of the scrollbar, so it is returning a vm.right of 16 which is Scrollbar.minWidth, so although the Application width is 1287 it sets the one child container to a width of 1287-16 i.e. 1271.
Then after calling setActualSize on the child container it tries to align the container, however the codes states that it should ignore the scrollbar for alignment purposes. So as it is set to align center, it takes the 1271 wide child and centers it in its 1287 width i.e it moves it to 8.
When complete you end up with a 8px space to the left of the child and part of the child flowing under the scrollbar, instead of it fitting flush in the Application.
Anyone know whats up with this, and is there some magic workaround for this problem?

Use a textbox the exact size of the banner required, then position that as you wish on the page, enter in the textbox some unique text, like BannerCodeHere, then publish.
In the code, find BannerCodeHere and replace it with your HTML code.

Dynamic form: Getting page 2 content to flow right after page 1 content

I have created a two-page form--if the content expands on page 1, the 'overflow' goes to page 2, HOWEVER the page 2 fields always starts on a new page, (in this case page 3)...not what I want.
How do I tell the page 2 content to flow right after the page 1 content?

You should have 1 page form instead of two. The trick is to get all your form objects in your page 2 wrapped by a flow subform in order for them to flow as the subform above it grow.

How to read the content in one node of XML in Java? Pls help

I am a newbie of XML, I have a exercise which is creating a Tree View from XML file. But the trouble is I do not know how to read the content in one node of XML file. I decide to use the algorithm as following:
1. Create a GUI form which gives the ability for user to choose a XML file (ok)
2. Load XML and return the file (ok)
3. Read the file from node to node to create the node in Tree View (?!)

Expanding text box in flowed subform

Can you describe a bit more precisely what your problem is?
In the PDF I only see 3 lines of text and no dynamic elements at all.
What part of your PDF is not expanding?

We process inbound files every hour, we now got this message we have never seen. But every hour, for three hours, one in many files that are processed get this error. But the file ends with success, and after spot checking the file looks like it made it into SAP.
What is happening? Anybody know?
