Possible to create a JAX-WS, session-bean-based webservice for WebLogic 10?
All,
sorry - but I'm going a bit crazy here. I have been unable to figure out the secret hand-shakes for developing a session-bean-based web service that will run properly under Weblogic 10.0. There are examples out there on how to create webservices that exists within a war file - but none that I can find that reside within a session bean (an ear file).
I can't even figure out how to do with this Bea Workshop for WebLogic Platform 10.0! Is this possible? I can't find any examples anywhere on how to do this. I must be missing something...
Does WebLogic 10.0 support web services within session beans? I've figured out how to do this with JBoss, Sun App Server, and Glassfish - but no luck so far with WebLogic.
If anyone can please point me in the proper direction it would be very appreciated. My company likes WebLogic, but we have to be able to do this in order to continue using it.
Thanks,
-john
Yeah - I've tried that. Everything builds fine - but when I deploy to WebLogic 10, I get the stack below. It looks like it is looking for the class examples.webservices.jaxws.jaxws.SayHello - but there isn't such a class in the example...
Any thoughts? I'm completely stuck!

Always fail to deploy to server when (Create a Simple EJB Session Bean )
Hi,
I'm trying the "Oracle JDeveloper 11g Tutorials" - "Create a Simple EJB Session Bean", I just follow the instructions in that page. But when I tried to run it, it always failed. Can anyone help me to have a look. I paste the log below. thank you.
There's an error in the log "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.security.jps.wls.listeners.JpsApplicationLifecycleListener". but I don't know what's that meaning.

#### Cannot run application SessionEJB due to error deploying to DefaultServer.
[Application SessionEJB stopped and undeployed from Server Instance DefaultServer]Steve,
I'm facing the same issue as user#####.
Your workaround does not work ; when I deploy manuelly the ear file, with a new weblogic-application.xml, I get the same error.
Does that happen a lot ? :p

Creating EJB 3.0 Session Bean under JDeveloper 10g.
Hello im using JDeveloper 10 g all up 2 date.
when i create EJB 2.x EJB everythink is ok .. there is a Wizzard(Designer) from which i can add methods variables and etc.
all methods are become added to the session bean / remote interefeis etc.
My Problem is when i create EJB 3.0
when i do it the Bean class is created and the Remote interfeis with @remote is created too its ok BUT I CANT see Remote interfeis in my Application Naviagation its fine under 2.1 i cannot see remote interfeis and home interfeis too but inder 2.1 there is a wizzard(Designer) under 3.0 there is nothink.
what am i wrong ? how can i make designer to work under 3.0 or how can i make Jdeveloper to show me all content of the EJBsanother strange problem.
i have an APplication server added ( JBOSS ).
when i create deployment profile (EAR ) application server is showed in the ComboBox .
But when i create Java Test Client for some EJB and when i check " Connect Remote Application server" there is 2 comboboxes
J2EE Application
App Server Connection.
first combo is ok there is EJB applicaiton
Secound is empty .. but i Have App Server.
Another think is that when i create EJB 3.0 its BAD to see J2EE app it must be J EE 5 app or just Java EE app -
Creating web services from session beans
Hi everybody,

Example of using session bean with webservices
Hello,
I am working with netbeans 5.5 (with JAX-WS 2.0 library) and using Tomcat.
I have created webservices and everything is working well so far. However, each webservice is making a connection to my database.
I would like to use a session bean so that I make the connection only once (at the begining of the client session for example) and store it into my session bean.
I am a newbie in those things, I search on the Web and on this forum some code examples. The only thing I have found is this article http://weblogs.java.net/blog/ramapulavarthi/archive/2006/06/maintaining_ses.html
When I tried this, the session doesn't seem to work at all : I get the same result (counter=1) twice.
Does anybody have a complete example of how to use a session with webservices please?
Thanks a lot!Sorry, I was not very clear in my last message.
I need all my webservices to share the same bean during one user session.
Then, if a page calls 2 different web services, only 1 database connection is made instead of 2. And if the user opens other pages which call other webservices, they will use the connection kept into the session bean.
Anyway, I tried to do like it is said in your website but I can not build my project. I have an error : java.lang.LinkageError: JAXB 2.0 API is being loaded from the bootstrap classloader, but this RI (from jar:file:/C:/.../build/web/WEB-INF/lib/jaxb-impl.jar!/com/sun/xml/bind/v2/model/impl/ModelBuilder.class) needs 2.1 API. Use the endorsed directory mechanism to place jaxb-api.jar in the bootstrap classloader. I do not understand because I have downloaded the jax-ws 2.1.1 api and no other libraries are imported in my project. :-(
I wonder if it is not related to netbeans... -
Using EJB remote session beans llike webservice.
My requirement is to fetch a big size ASCII stream file from a remote location. For this can I use Statless EJB Session beans?
For this EJB application & Web application will be on my application server side & EJB client should reside on the remote end side from where I want to fetch the file. - Please confirm my this logic as I am new in Java & EJB, I am having a basic query like this. (I don't want to proceed with EJB web service like (@Stateless, @WebService), I want to purly use EJB Statless Remote session beans - Is this possible?
If yes, can I have one sample example URL pls?

Calling Local Stateless session bean from Spring in weblogic 10.3
We are in the process of upgrading to Weblogic 10.3 from OC4J (OAS). We are using Spring and Stateless Session EJB 3 Local beans (Don't ask me why, it is decided before I came to the project).
Previously (OC4J):
-> There is no ejb-jar.xml. EJBs are configured with annotation @Stateless. No "name" or "mappedName" are defined.
Spring POJOs access EJBs by using "EJBMODULENAME_<<EJBBeanClass>>Local" as JNDI Name. I think this strange JNDI name is what OC4J assigns when there is no explicit JNDI name defined.
Sample Spring Bean configuration -
<bean name="securityEJB" class="org.springframework.ejb.access.LocalStatelessSessionProxyFactoryBean" lazy-init="true">
<property name="jndiName">
<value>myapp-ejb_SecurityEJBImplLocal</value>
</property>
<property name="resourceRef">
<value>false</value>
</property>
<property name="businessInterface">
<value>my.package.SecurityEJB</value>
</property>
</bean>
I understand that weblogic 10.x doesn't give any global JNDI name (JNDI tree is empty) and also looked at the blog, Link: [http://m-button.blogspot.com/2008/07/reminder-on-how-to-use-ejb3-with.html]
So far I have tried,
1. @EJB annotation works but, I don't want to add @EJB annotations in the entire application. Since we are using Spring and EJB3, I am trying to avoid mixing them -
2. java:comp/env is supposed to work (since it is a local session bean), but it doesn't for me.
I haven't added weblogic-ejb-jar.xml as I don't think it is going to help, as there is no global JNDI name defined. Am I missing some thing?
ThxHi,
if you don't want to use @EJB to inject the EJB, then you'll need declare the EJB reference in deployment descriptor.
Here is an example copied from EJB3 spec:
<ejb-local-ref>
<description>
This is a reference to the local business interface
of an EJB 3.0 session bean that provides a payroll
service.
</description>
<ejb-ref-name>ejb/Payroll</ejb-ref-name>
<local>com.aardvark.payroll.Payroll</local>
</ejb-local-ref>
then you can lookup the local ejb from "java:comp/env/ejb/Payroll". -
Stateless session beans and idle timeouts (weblogic 10.3.1)
Need clarification about stateless session beans and the idle-timeout-seconds setting.
Situation is this – we have a process that is timing out due to an API call to a very slow Authentication server.
I am trying to resolve this with a code change, but need to further other understand what the server is actually doing.
We have a session bean which calls another which is calling a util class that does all the work and returns the results back up to the initial session bean. I have left out the ejbName in these examples (it’s irrelevant here).
Example:
SessionBean1 // basically called just once a day
@Session(defaultTransaction = Constants.TransactionAttribute.SUPPORTS,
enableCallByReference = Constants.Bool.TRUE,
type = Session.SessionType.STATELESS,
transTimeoutSeconds = "0",
initialBeansInFreePool = "0",
maxBeansInFreePool = "20")
Methods
@RemoteMethod() public boolean getUserList(String adminGroup) {
Map usrList = getUserList(adminGroup);
Private Map getUserList(String adminGroup) {
return SessionBean2.getUsers(adminGroup);
SessonBean2
@Session(defaultTransaction = Constants.TransactionAttribute.SUPPORTS,
enableCallByReference = Constants.Bool.TRUE,
type = Session.SessionType.STATELESS,
transTimeoutSeconds = "0",
initialBeansInFreePool = "3",
maxBeansInFreePool = "20")
Method
@RemoteMethod() public Map getUsers(String adminGroup) throws RemoteException {
return javaUtilClass.getUsers(adminGroup);
JavaUtilClass
Method
public Map getUsers(String adminGroup) throws RemoteException {
// This is where the work happens, calling the Authentication server to get a complete
// list of users for an admin group. When the user list is around 1500 entries, this can
// take an hour. Did I mention this server is very slow? It’s about this threshold of 1500
// that causes the timeout.
return Map of users
First thought, just bump the idle-timeout-seconds setting for the session beans (from the default 600), but that would be a temporary solution until the user list grew larger.
Second thought, refactor the call to the Authentication Server API to get the user list in blocks of data (say 400 at a time) and decreasing the call/response time between the method getUsers and the API call. This would still occur in the JavaUtilClass, so I am unsure this would make a difference. The session beans would still be idle and subject to timeout, correct?
Would setting initialBeansInFreePool to 1 in SessionBean1 make any difference?
Or should I be looking at replicating the re-factored method from the JavaUtilClass in SessionBean1 where the user list is being used so that the API calls come back to it and keep it 'active'?
Thanks for any advice you could give me on this.Hi
regarding timeouts, there are two ways:
1.- Changing the settings in the JTA WebLogic domain , called "Timeout Seconds". This will affect globally to all EJB deployed in the domain.
or
2.- Specified directly in the bean with a weblogic annotation, like this:
@TransactionTimeoutSeconds(value = 300)I hope this will help you.

Stateless Bean imposing webservice in Weblogic 10
Hi..
Is it possible to implement Stateless bean webservice using jwsc task and deploying both services(ejb and webservice) as EAR???.
If anybody knows please let me know what are the steps to follow.
Thanks in advance and your help is appreciated........Hi,
if you don't want to use @EJB to inject the EJB, then you'll need declare the EJB reference in deployment descriptor.
Here is an example copied from EJB3 spec:
<ejb-local-ref>
<description>
This is a reference to the local business interface
of an EJB 3.0 session bean that provides a payroll
service.
</description>
<ejb-ref-name>ejb/Payroll</ejb-ref-name>
<local>com.aardvark.payroll.Payroll</local>
</ejb-local-ref>
then you can lookup the local ejb from "java:comp/env/ejb/Payroll". -
I intended to write a long document, with sections and subsections, using Pages. The title of each section / subsection should be numbered, such as:
1. First Title (style: title 1)
text text text
2. Second Title (style: title 1)
more and more text
2.1 First Subtitle (style: title 2)
text and text
2.2 Second Subtitle (style: title 2)
text text
3. Third title (style: title 1)
even more text, and so on
Is that possible? Is it simple?
ThanksDo you know that Pages User Guide was not written to help helpers to help you ?
They are also for your own use !

Is it possible to create variables with an incremented name in a for loop?
I want to create a number of variables according to the following:
MyClass var_1 = new MyClass();
MyClass var_2 = new MyClass();
MyClass var_3 = new MyClass();
MyClass var_n = new MyClass();
Is there any way to do this in a loop ? Such as
for ( int iii = 0 ; iii < 10 , iii++ ) {
MyClass var_(iii) = new MyClass();
ThanksArrayList<MyClass> list = new ArrayList<MyClass>();
for(int i = 0; i < 10; i++){
MyClass c = new MyClass();
list.add(c);
MyClass [] myClasses = new MyClass[list.size()];
list.toArray(myClasses);
//when use the MyClass instance, use the element of the myClasses array by the index, as myClasses[0],myClasses[1] -
Hi someone or everyone,
Upon comming in contact with jquery I instantly became aware of the secret behind it's popularity. It 'shortened' bits of code, functions and other, into easily managed text that makes sense almost at first glance. Is this a thing that can be done with indesign?So you basically do this:
#include "../extendables.jsx"
And that will allow you to include a function library. From there you can build a jquery library for js/id. -
Command bean or webservice for accessing EJB
Hi Experts,
I Want to access an Enterprise archieve DC created for EJB Module DC, through WebDynpro DC.
Now I know that there are two ways to access EAR DC through webDynpro:
1) Command bean
2) Web Services
Can anybody suggest the pros and cons of this two methods?
Also please suggest which one to choose.
Regards,
Ashish ShahHi,
to access EJBs from WD, you can use the EJB3.0 model importer (a new feature introduced with NW CE). There's a good tutorial explaining that <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/45/f7f744aea471fae10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm">here</a>.
The Web services way should also work, but it means that you "wrap" the EJB, which is not needed in this case, I believe.
Hope it helps! -
Any difference in creating a web service from a java class or session bean?
Hi,
The JDeveloper tutorial at http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/devdepandmanagingws/devdepandmanagingws.htm demonstrates creating a web service from a plain java class. I'm wondering:
- Is it possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean instead of a java class? If so, what's the proper way to do this in JDeveloper? When I tried doing so in JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4 (SU5) using the J2EE Web Service wizard, the wizard did not list the session bean in the Component To Publish dropdown (it does list any java classes available in the project). I can proceed by manually typing in the name of the session bean. After the wizard completes though, the @Stateless annotation that had been in my session bean class code is removed and replaced by a @WebService annotation. The end result is that it looks like it made no difference whether I had tried to create the web service from a session bean or plain java class as the annotations in the resulting web service code are the same (although if I had started from a session bean, the class for the web service still implements the Local/Remote EJB interface that the session bean originally implemented).
- Assuming it's possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean, is there any advantage/disadvantage creating a web service from a java class vs a stateless session bean? I'm creating the web service from scratch so I also need to either build the java class or stateless session bean the web service would be based on from scratch too.
Thanks for any ideas about this.Hi,
EJB Session beans (EJB 3.0) are deployed as WebServices by annotating the class with @WebService and the methds with @WebMethod (both tags require you to add the JSR-181 library to your project (available in the JDeveloper list of libraries)). Unlike the J2E WebService, the EJB session bean service is turned into a WebService upon deployment. This means you obtain teh WSDL file after deployment
- Assuming it's possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean, is there any advantage/disadvantage creating a web service from a java class vs a stateless session bean?
The difference is that EJB Session bean based web services are integrated with the J2EE container, which means that they can leverage container services like transaction handling, data sources, security, JMS etc.

Is it possible to restrict the object creation for stateless session beans
Hi,
Is it possible to restrict/fix the ejb object creation for stateless session beans in application server?
For example, i want to configure the application server ( am using JBOSS ) to create maximum of 10 session bean objects. and if any requests for the stateless session bean come, as application server has created 10 objects, the requests should be blocked.
Thanks in advance,
nvseenuYou can keep a counter in the application code. A static var won't work, but an entity and a consistent id should. This version would affect performance, but it would be portable to other app servers.
// ConstrainedBean.java
package unq.ejb;
import javax.ejb.Stateless;
import javax.ejb.CreateException;
import javax.annotation.PostConstruct;
import javax.annotation.PreDestroy;
import javax.persistence.PersistenceContext;

em.find(ConstrainedBeanCounter.class, DEFAULT_COUNTERID);

counter.counterValue = 0;
em.persist(counter);
if( counter.atMaximum() ) {

else {
counter.increment();
@PreDestroy
protected void destroy() {
ConstrainedBeanCounter counter = em.find(ConstrainedBeanCounter.class,
DEFAULT_COUNTERID);
counter.decrement();
public void doSomething() { System.out.println("doSomething()"); }

package unq.ejb;

import javax.persistence.Id;

public class ConstrainedBeanCounter implements java.io.Serializable

public int counterValue = 0;
public void increment() {

public void decrement() {
counterValue--;
public boolean atMaximum() {
return counterValue > 9;
