Many friends told me if my mobile app need something else to be installed to run, they will quit. I think unless most mobiles installed Air runtime in the future. We must make the installation more user-friendly.
Can I pack the runtime together with app? Or is ther another work around?

Flex 4.6 / Air 3.0 introduced Captive Runtime, which is exactly what you are requesting. You choose the version of Flex/Air to be included in your app and it is bundled into the build. This has been the only option for iOS, but is now available for Android as well. When exporting a release build of your project in the newest version of Flash Builder, there is an option in the Deployment tab to "Export application with captive runtime".

Yes, you can create an Adobe AIR app with all the runtimes needed packaged into a single installer.

Reduce size of Air runtime for mobile apps

Flash & Air are fantastic for create Android apps
but most of user don't have Air Runtime package on their phones and we must embed this in publish
unfortunately the size of adobe air runtime is about 8 MB ! and with slow internet it take long time to download the apps , and even for getting this apps with Bluetooth
is there any chance to reduce size of Adobe Air Runtime ?
or create various version of Air runtime , for example in most project we don't need play video or sound ...

This has been asked before several times. I doubt you will get a procedure from NI on how to do this since the run-time engine is intended to be a collection of libraries to be used by various types of LabVIEW apps.
That said, it doesn mean that users haven't tried to figure out how to do it. Note: I do not recommend this practice nor can I speak to its effectiveness since I've never tried it.

Packaging AIR runtime with app?

Would it be possible to have an option to package the AIR runtime with the APKs
created through Flash Builder? Say, a ride-along package that would detect if the
given or higher runtime of AIR is installed, and if not, install it before launching the
app.
For the foreseeable future (the next year, at least), most new users of any given app
created this way will not already have the AIR runtime on their phone. This would
spare them having to initiate another download when they thought they were about
to enjoy the product. (No matter how you disclaim it, many customers are going to
think you can start an app right away after downloading it from the Market, because
this is how practically all non-AIR apps work.) Waiting for an install is okay if the app
automatically launches afterward: this will not take nearly as long, and (importantly!)
requires no further customer action to actually launch the app.

I'm sure it would possible, but consider that as soon as someone downloads
an AIR Android app, they've already got the runtime, and with notifications
for updates already a common thing, they'll be notified from the Market
whenever there's an app update (runtime or your app).
I think it would be nice as an option, but just today I got an email from
the Android Market explaining important changes to the store, and
specifically they say no .apk larger than 50 mb. So I'd rather not have the
runtime packaged with the app, as that adds to the overall filesize. We
already have to deal with that on iOS devices, since Apple won't let us
download compiled code. So you get an automatic 3-4 mg overhead with all iOS
apps. Luckily there's no real limit on iOS app sizes.
I do agree though it'd be nice to have the install process worked out so the
app prompts for the runtime if needed (as it works now) but have the runtime
know to launch the app again once it's installed.

Duplicate session error using Flash Remoting from Air 3.4 Mobile Apps ( IOS and Android ) with CF10

We're getting the "duplicate session" error using Flash Remoting from Air 3.4 Mobile Apps ( IOS and Android ) with Coldfusion 10 Standard.
faultCode:Server.Processing.DuplicateSessionDetected faultString:'Detected duplicate HTTP-based FlexSessions,
generally due to the remote host disabling session cookies.
Session cookies must be enabled to manage the client connection correctly.' faultDetail:'null'
Have read most of the docs about this error -all to do with LCDS
Notes:
Not using LCDS,
No Remote Calls from loaded Sub-Apps,
No Errors from the Flex Web App which is pretty much identical and calls the same cfcs.
The error does not happen all the time and is hard to reproduce - say 5% of app sessions at a guess.
Could it be a two first time remote calls hitting the server together before a session is set up?
Our remoteObjects are in two places 1) Main Application.mxml and within a class compiled into the main app - can't see how this would be an issue.
I enabled session management for the CFCs in Application.cfc but still occurs. Is this neccessary - it's not in any docs?
Could this be something to do with the app not being shut down - as is typical with mobile users? When they resume use after a day or two surely a new session will be created?

For our profect I think this issue was caused as follows:
Believing that remoting was full asynchronous we fired a 2 or 3 remote calls to the server at the same time ( within the same function ) - usually when the users goes to a new section of the app.
This seemed to trigger the duplicate http session error since according to http://blogs.adobe.com/lin/2011/05/duplication-session-error.html two remote calls arriving before a session is created will cause 2 sessions to be created.
Our current solution ( too early to say it works ) is to daisy chain the multiple calls together .
Also there seemed to be an issue where mobile apps that never quit ( thanks Apple! ) caused the error when activated after a few hours.
I guess the session expires on the server and the error above occurs on activation.
So the mobile apps now ping the server with a remote call when activated after sleeping for more than one hour.
All duplicate http errors are silently caught and reported.
Fingers crossed we won't get any more!

Distributing AIR Runtime with a commercial AIR app: permitted?

I did some Googling around for the answer to this, and I
discovered, according to a couple bloggers, that while it's
definitely permitted to sell applications you make with AIR, you
cannot sell the runtime. That makes perfect sense, but I'm
wondering if that comes into conflict with including the runtime on
a disc/in a paid download.
Similarly to how Windows games include a DirectX installer
for people who somehow don't have that yet, I was wondering if it
violates some kind of copyright or intellectual property thing to
include an Adobe AIR runtime installer in whatever package I
distribute my application in. That way, rather than giving someone
a .air file that they have no idea what to do with (unless they
read the manual, which many people, um, won't), I can include an
installer program for each of the three platforms which will either
open the AIR file if it can, or tell the user "This program needs
AIR to breathe!" or something and then installs the runtime. That
way they don't have to go download something else.
Just a convenience thing that I'd like to do, so I want to
make sure it's permitted.

redistribution.

Lync 2013 not syncing conversations with mobile apps

Straight to the point, is there any way to sync conversations started on the pc client with the lync mobile app (iOS, Android..)? I've been doing some research and found that this was to be done on the updated version of the mobile app, but at the moment
we haven't been able to do so.
From what we've experienced, if we are connected on the two devices at the same time (PC and mobile), Lync will take the PC as the default and messages will be delivered to the pc client without any notice to the mobile app even though it's connected too.
So, if I get out of my desk and take the phone with me so that people could reach me through Lync, I'll have to sign off from the pc client so that the messages can be directed to my phone app.
Is there a way for changing this or this is the way it works for now? This happens not only for iPhone but for Android devices too.

Possible to associate file extension with webstarted app?

A common property of microsoft apps is to associate file extensions with specifiec apps.
For example, when you double click on a .xl file, Excel is launched.
Can the same kind of thing be done for Webstarted apps? If so how?

I have an idea on how to do this, but I have not tried it.
1. On first launch, the application does an "install" before starting the main screen.
2. The install checks the OS, and writes a .sh or .bat file to disk. That batch file runs the command-line to start the application. Hmm, but how does it pass along $*?
3. The install associates the proper file extension with the .bat file, and/or with the unix file manager software, and/or with IE, Netscape, and Mozilla.
Then, when a user clicks on a link to a document, or a file in the windows explorer, then the JWS application should lanch and load the file(s).

AIR 3.9 - mobile app starling, pure as project and interstitial ads forces close

Hi there,
we have a pure as project in which we updatet the air version to 3.9.
The app uses starling and the admob extension - > http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/admob-ane-android.html
If an admob interstitial is shown the app crashes and starts again.
With AIR 3.8 there is no problem with this.
Perhaps it has also something to do with this bug:

The debugger shows nothing, the app only shows a black screen after closing the interstitial ad and restarts.
We also have interstitial ads in a project that is not pure as and we use AIR 3.9 in this app. No problem here.
We don't use starling in this non pure as project so perhaps the issue has something to do with starling. The strange thing is that it worked nicely with AIR 3.8.
Some ideas?

I am using the Admob from the Alchemy. The thing is, i come across the crash report more and more often from the users, as stated in the thread.
Do you mind sharing some codes how to display admob ads?

Outlook 2013 Emails non-compatiable with Mobile Apps

I have been using my official email id in outlook 2013. But when i send any email with Table attached and any image then it shows No table and no image, even it gives .dat file attached with email,to mobile users. I have triied sending my email
using HTML and Richtext format but i the problem still presist. If i send the same format email using outlook 2007 then it works smoothly.

You said it gives .dat file, do you mean the Winmail.dat file? The Winmail.dat file is used to preserve Rich Text formatting. Outlook uses it when sending a Rich Text-formatted message. During transport, the content of the message may be changed, preventing
the receiving client from being able to read the formatting instructions. In other cases, the receiving client does not use or recognize the winmail.dat file.

Air runtime questions

Hi all,
We're eyeing Air suspiciously and thinking about trying to use it for distributing various apps.
Our main concerns are all about the runtime licence model.
1) The Runtime distiribution licence agreement says:
Licensee may not distribute the Adobe AIR installer or installer files for purposes of bypassing installation of the Adobe AIR Runtime, an Adobe AIR application, or the EULA.
Does this mean if we bundled the runtime distribution installer on a CD and tried ot install it as part of our installer using the -silent install method we would actually be breaking the licence agreement?
2)Say we install the runtime this way and then our app. A new version of air comes out, the user is then quizzed by Air whether they want to upgrade.
There is no way to avoid this?
3) And when if they do upgrade I've heard a lot of stories about apps suddenly becoming unuseable. Can someone confirm it doesn't just break the app beacuse it wasn't written for that version, it is simply that runtimes are not backward compatible?
I think I know the answers to these questions but I need to ask to get total clarity as basicaly it seems ludicrous if you want Air to be taken up by the raft of developers who, like me, are desperate to walk away from mdm Zinc.

2. Setting Manager can set to stop update.
3. We have made great effort to make sure new releases are backward combatible.

How to auto update AIR runtime when installing with native installer?

Hi, we recently changed our app to a native installer for both Windows and OS X.
It seemed that when we distributed a .air file the install process would upgrade the installed version of the AIR runtime (if necessary) before installing our application.
Now it seems that if AIR is installed with an old version (say 2.5) and the native installer app is installed (requiring AIR 3.0) an error message appears that says "Sorry, an error has occurred. The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author".
My question is how can we have our native installer bring the user's version of the AIR runtime to the minimum required (3.0) or the latest version (3.6)?
The error message displayed to the user does not provide meaningful info.

Hi Chris, thank you for the response. I've spent quite a bit of time browsing the forum and you're sort of a celebrity to me ;-)
The "installer damaged" error message is happening on the first install of our application with older version of the AIR runtime. The app is using the nativeapplicatoinupdater ( http://code.google.com/p/nativeapplicationupdater/ ) project for updates (which is working great once the app is installed).
I performed a few tests on OS X (10.8.2) this evening and here are my results.
AIR 1.5: app install dialog with option to download AIR 3.6 is shown. INSTALL OK
AIR 2.04.: app install dialog with option to download AIR 3.6 IS NOT shown. INSTALL FAILS
AIR 2.5.: app install dialog with option to download AIR 3.6 IS NOT shown. INSTALL FAILS
AIR 2.6: app install dialog with option to download AIR 3.6 is shown. INSTALL OK
AIR 2.7: app install dialog with option to download AIR 3.6 is shown. APP INSTALL OK
So it seems the problem is with AIR 2.04 and 2.5. I uninstalled and reinstalled the AIR runtime for each test. I can consistently reproduce the failed install with 2.04 and 2.5. The same DMG file was used in each test. I have seen similar error messages on Windows 7 when AIR 2.5 was installed, though I didn't get a chance to look at the log to confirm it's the same migration error.
The failed installs seem to drop out because of: "failed while validating native package: Error: invalid migration signature".
Tomorrow I can create a version without the migration certificate to see if it can be successfully installed on 2.04 and 2.5. It's "interesting" that the other versions of the runtime do not fail on this condition.

Need how to install Air Runtime and App from CD Rom

I am looking for some direction on how to bundle the Air
runtime and my app together in a single executable file from a CD
rom, for MAC and WIN. I already have applied for and received
licensing necessary form Adobe and I have the dmg and exe of the
Air runtime.
I have the seamless install working where internet access is
available however the initial group who will receive the app won't
have internet access at the time of distribution so the bundled
install will be from CD rom.

Since you applied for the distribution from Adobe you should
have received a link to a page where you can download what they
call the "side-car" installer. It's basically an installation
system they are making available to developers that can be easily
configured to deliver a bundled runtime and application
installation for Mac and Windows.
Check your email again and see if you can't find a link in
there pointing you to a download page for the AIR runtime as well
as the aforementioned side-car installer. For those who don't know,
here
is where you can apply for a redistribution permit for AIR.
