Possible to use iPhoto QT Export Format in FCP?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to create some killer slide shows which go far beyond iPhoto's capabilities. I exported 5 photos from iPhoto at 1024x768 for 2 seconds each. The quality was excellent and the file size was only 616 kb.
I pulled up the movie's info in Quick Time and got this:
Format: Photo - JPEG, 1024 x 768, Millions
Photo - JPEG, 1024 x 768, Millions
Photo - JPEG, 1024 x 768, Millions
Cross Fade, 1024 x 768, Millions
FPS: 0.41
Playing FPS: (Available while playing.)
Data Size: 1.77 MB
Data Rate: 876.89 kbits/sec
Duration: 00:00:17.00
Normal Size: 1024 x 768 pixels
In Final Cut, under info->format, it says the following:
Type: Still
Size: 613.6k
Tracks: 1v
Vid Rate: 23.98 fps
Frame Size: 1024x768
Pixel Aspect: Square
Field Dominance: Not Set
Alpha: None/Ignore
Composite: Normal
All I want to do is recreate these settings, but no matter what I try the file is huge and the quality poor. Anybody have any ideas? Are there programs out there more suited to what I am trying to do?
Thanks,
Comatosed

Hi Shane,
That was a really helpful video on how to apply motion. I'll definitely apply those techniques if I ever figure out how to get my settings correct. Perhaps you can help me with this!
I noticed when you dropped your jpegs into FCP they didn't need any "red" rendering, they had the green render line. I belive I've matched my Audio/Video setup as closely as I can to my stills, the frame sizes are the same, but the stills always needs rendering as soon as I drop them into the sequencer. I don't want to render every slide before editing!
These are the best settings I've managed to find so far, maybe they're way off or you know a better way.
OfflineRT HD (Photo JPEG) 16:9 material at 23.98 fps with audio set to 48 kHz.
Frame Size: 1024 x 682 Pixels
Editing Timebase: 23.98 fps
Field Dominance: None
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Anamorphic 16:9: Off
Video Processing: RGB Only
White Point: N/A
Compressor: Photo - JPEG
Millions of Colors (24 bit)
No Data Rate Limit
No Keyframes Set
Quality: 75
Audio Settings:
16-bit 48.000 kHz Stereo
The file sizes are manageable yet the image looks great
This is my vision: I want to create slide shows that are perfectly synced to music and apply some motion, transitions and fx. Above all, I want to have control over the length of each still to a tenth of a second and have multiple audio tracks to work with so I can mix songs and sound bytes. So far FCP seems to be the only program that will allow me to do all this.
Here's my problem: I want to keep the quality high but file size low (I know this is a contradiction And I'd really like not to have to render everything before I begin editing.
Thanks for the help Shane, I really appreciate it!

  • Is it possible to use certutil to export multiple certificates from a local client machine store, to a .p7b file?

Is it possible to use certutil to export multiple certificates from a local client machine store, to a .p7b file?
Scenario: We have a few legacy certificates based on some legacy templates (2012 R2). Some belong to an old SubCA (2008 R2).
I’ve can manually export them using certmgr mmc on the local machine to a single .p7b e.g.
cert_backupNEW.p7b. But this is not a practical solution for me and I want to achieve this remotely via certutil or some other util that comes with Windows 7 machines.
I’ve already worked out how to run a certutil command to add the certs back into the store e.g.
    certutil.exe -addstore -f my cert_backupNEW.p7b
Is there a way to export multiple certs to a single backup cert, or is what I’m trying to do not possible with multiple certs?
    TC

    Something like this:
    $store = New-Object Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Store "my","localmachine"
    $store.Open("ReadOnly")
    Set-Content -Path exportedcerts.pfx -Value $store.Certificates.Export("pfx","password")
    $store.Close()
note that this command will fail, if there are certificates with non-exportable keys. You cannot export certificates with non-exportable keys.

  • Possible to use iPhoto 9.3 to merge iPhoto & Aperture libraries?

i use aperature to edit and organize. i'd like to export certain projects as individual libraries so that i can send to family members (via shared dropbox folder) so they can easily add to their iPhoto library without having to re-organize, assign faces, locations, etc.
i know it's now possible to do this aperture 3.3 [http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5296], however who i'd like to send to only use iPhoto. Any ideas or workarounds?

No. Importing Libraries as projects are Aperture only features.
However, they could use the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager  to merge the Libraries.

  • Is it possible to restrict the available export formats in InfoView?

    Hi all,
I uploaded some reports to Crystal Reports Server 2008. For most of them the user should be able to export them to CSV when viewing them in InfoView. For some reports this does not work correctly because they contain embedded subreports, cross tables etc., which can not be exported to CSV. Is it possible to remove the CSV format from the list of possible export formats for those reports?
Alternatively, is it possible to insert some hint into the CSV export like "Not all data contained due to export restrictions"?
    Thanks for infos
    Joern

    HI,
you will  able to disable the group tree icon panel when the crystal report opened. to do this, follow the steps mentioned below.
    1. Go to your BO installation folder and then tomcat folder and then choose the CrystalReports web application.
    C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\webapps\CrystalReports
Now change the web.xml of the this web app and insert a context parameter
<!-- Added to remove group tree panel shown as default -->
    <context-param>
    <param-name>viewrpt.groupTreeHide</param-name>
    <param-value>true</param-value>
    </context-param>
Restart your tomcat, or restart crystal report web app from tomcat manager.
you can remove or add or disable the group tree icon as per your requirement.
Let me know if this works,
    Regards,
    Rameez

  • Is it possible to use markers to export still images at once?

I have a movie and I need to export about 30 still images. Can I just place markers at the frames where I want a still image to be exported and then export all the markers together at once thus resulting in 30 jpeg still images? If yes, how do you do that?

    sure ....
if this is a sequence, then first, in the sequence, +select the clips you want to mark+ then scrub through the sequence placing markers at the appropriate points (because the clips are selected the markers will be placed within the clip instance rather than as sequence markers); second, drag the now marked clips back up from the sequence and into a bin in the browser window
if its not a sequence, then just open the clip into the viewer window and scrub through placing markers as needed
now, click on the disclosure triangle that appears to the left of these clips in the browser window's list view to display the contained markers as a list ... select all those markers and drag them into a new bin
you now have a bin full of subclips that each represent one of the markers you've placed
select this bin and choose File menu > Batch Export ... and in the subsequent window press the Settings button to set up the export format (as Still Image)
press the export button and you're done
fwiw it all sounds much more complicated than it is

  • IPhoto Slideshow Export Settings for FCP 7

I made a slideshow using iPhoto '11 that I need to import into Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 so that it can be merged into a longer sequence with a few other things that will eventually be burned onto a DVD using Studio Pro and then set to play in a continuous loop.
My question is, what settings should I use exporting out of iPhoto? The photos were all taken with a Canon 5D. The sequence that I'll be importing the slideshow into will also have a sequence in it that was shot using the Sony HXR-NX5U. So, the native settings for that clip will be 1920x1080, square pixels, 23,98 fps, Apple ProRes 422 codec. I exported my iPhoto slideshow to match the settings as best as possible - 1920x1080 HD 16:9 was the closest option. I think the one difference is that the slideshow plays at 30 fps while the sequence matches the main video at 23.98 fps.
My issue is that the slideshow plays fine in iPhoto and even as a stand-alone movie loaded in QuickTime, but once I import it into Final Cut, I get motion artifacts. Even if I bring the slideshow into its own sequence, with the sequence settings matching those of the slideshow, the artifacts are still there. I can get rid of them using the Flicker Filter, but is there a way to resolve this issue during the iPhoto export? Should I be Deinterlacing the source video, leaving it as a progressive movie or selecting interlaced scaling? If it needs interlaced scaling, should I select upper or lower?
Or, are there better settings to get this slideshow to play better in Final Cut?

Yes. What we're setting up a booth at an upcoming event and have some promo videos we made, as well as the slideshows. The purpose of bringing them all into FCP was so I could put them all together in the timeline and export them as one big movie, which I'd them bring into DVD Studio Pro and set it to loop over and over.
Unless, of course, I could keep all the movies separate and create a "Play" button that plays movie #1, but modify the end jump to go to movie #2. Modify the end jump of movie #2 to go to movie #3, the end jump of movie #3 go to #4 and have the end jump of #4 go back to #1.
Would that work? If so, I can just put everything into Compressor.

  • Is it possible to use iPhoto 9 on an upgraded Snow Leopard

I would like to use iLife 09 on the computer with this Snow Leopard version.

    Thanks,
Yes, it required upgrading and changed my library so now I am forced to use iLife 11 which I do not like.  I have that version on a lap top and disliked it.  Now I just have to get used to the new version however using the desktop and a magic mouse helps with the scrolling somewhat.  I may  find something other than iPhoto for pictures in the future.

  • It´s not possible to use compressor  when  exporting to compressor 4.0.7 from FCP 10.1

It is not possible  to work  with Compressor 4.0.7 from a Project send fro FCPx 10.1
I did not  upgrade  compressor to the  last  because it does not  give the possibilities of  version  4.0.7
    Any  suggestions?Thanks

Yes. Export a master file from FCP and bring  that exported file into Compressor's source file well.

  • Help: Export format from FCP for DVD Studio

What settings do I export my 3 minute film so I can use DVD Studio Pro? (What size do I want if I want my film to be wide screen just like a professional DVD movie you buy at your nearest store?)
    Thank You!

In FCP, go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie. You can choose to make the file self-contained or not. Do NOT recompress all frames. The resulting file will be an exact copy of your Sequence in FCP.
Use that file in Compressor. Choose the appropriate preset for DVD. Compressor will create an MPEG-2 (.m2v) video file and an AC3 audio file. Use those two files in DVD-SP for authoring.

  • How is it possible to use an employer's copy of FCP?

My employer wants to buy a copy of FCP for staff usage. Unfortunately, it's an all PC office, so it would have to operate on personal computers, like mine. Is it possible to buy a license, install it on my computer while I am working here, then "give it back" to my employer so they can use it in the future?
I assume this would mean installing it with an Apple ID other than my own. Thanks!

The employer should buy it with his Apple ID, which you run on your computer to download it. It's his Apple ID so at any time he can download it on another machine. Though if he runs it on multiple machines he should purchase multiple licenses.

  • Using interlaced and progressive formats in FCP

I am using Sony's HVR-Z1 camera with FCP and wanted to know if I can mix interlaced and progressive captures together. I want to buy the Sony HVR-V1U camera.

it should be fine, just as you can mix PAL and NTSC, HD and SD etc ... ultimately, of course, it will conform to one or the other as per your sequence settings
... and, as you have the camera and you have FCP, why not just try it? post your results so that others may benefit from your findings
    cheers

  • Is there any way to use iPhoto without it moving my files?

I tried to use iPhoto ONCE last yer when I bought my Mac Mini, and it moved all my photo files around as it pleased, is there any way to stop it fro moving my files? I like the folder/file structure I have given my pictures and I do not need to have that managed.
At the moment I am using Picasa but I would like to know if it is possible to use iPhoto without it deciding what to do with my files.
    Thanks!

    No
It is a SQL database and it must control its database - like any database program
as long as you think of managing files rather than managing photos it is not the program for you - once you think of managing your photos then having the poser of a database for that will be obvious - if that is not what you want then do not use it
BTW - iPhoto does not ever "move" your files - it makes a copy of each photo in its database and manages it there - your files are never touched

  • Help with export format - can I meet ad requirements?

    Help!
I need to create a color ad for magazine. Starting with a file in either PDF or EPS. Need to tweek existing file by changing some of the text and adding a logo. Final product is for magazine ad with media requirements:
    Preferred High Resolution PDF
Embedded fonts - no true type fonts, only Type 1 or open Type fonts
    300 DPI
supporting images must be CMYK, not RGB
I also have PS CS3. I have experienced output issues with printers in past, especially using the PDF export format from Pages (problems with fonts and layers).
From reading other posts my plan was to start in Pages, insert PDF file, overlay text and logo, print to Postscript, then open in PSCS3 where I would "save as PDF." Only concern is uncertain resolution of original PDF which is a small file (about 100k for quarter page color ad).
Other thought was to start with EPS in PS, save as PDF or TiFF, open in Pages to ad text/logo, then back to PS. Trying to avoid PS for main editing, just more versed in PAGES.
    Will this work?
    Any comments appreciated!!

    Good evening from Normandy
    In response to Barbara's point:
It is serious. At an early stage in my magazine project I lost a client because the background colour in his ad had changed after CMYK separation, and when I noticed it was too late. The client is with us now and very happy with the quality of his ad.
Pages colour palette allows adjusting CMYK separation WITHIN Pages (note: it is also available in other Mac applications, even in SimpleText). Click on the rainbow circle in the tool bar to open it. Click on the second icon with colour sliders, in the drop down menu click on CMYK sliders. They show percentage content of the four colours used in professional printing - Cyan(blue), Magenta (purple), Yellow and Black.
With Pages you work in what-i-see-what-i-get mode (WYSIWYG) which is wonderfully intuitive and the results in print are satisfactory more often than not. As a general rule of thumb, however, I would recommend avoiding sharp, vibrant colours. What looks exciting on screen comes out dull on paper. Mind physiology here: screen colours are generated to go staight into your eyes, but the colours on paper are a reflected and refracted sun- or electric light.
It also makes sense to avoid colours that are too feeble. I used light blue colour wash for background with Cyan reading of 8 percent and it completely disappeared in print. After consulting with my printers I had to change the reading to 15 percent.
Another printers tool is colour-code or colour-guide tablets. They are like a stack of cards with changing colour sequences with exact CMYK percentage reading for each shade of colour. They can be purchased at specialised shops and web-sites, but are costly. Weigh your needs against costs. In my work I have to pay more attention to general lay-out rather than to colours, so I decided against investing in colour tablets.
Another work-around here is to use colour combinations from Apple's own templates that come with iWork suite. Copy colours that work nicely together from templates to your colour palette (I wish there was a feature allowing to give custom names to composite colours) and they will be available for use in your projects.
Re ColourSync utility mentioned here by Dragon. I agree, it is a powerful tool, but Barbara's point is especially relevant here: you have to know what you are doing. I invested some time in creating new workflows with ColourSync. The improvement in quality was dramatic, but while some problems were solved, others appeared. A short article I wrote re using Colour Sync is here:
    i-work-in-pages.blogspot.com/2006/10/preparing-colour-separated-pdfs-using.html
So after a while I dropped ColourSync method and started using Enfocus PitStop which allows adjusting PDFs right at the CMYK conversion stage.
Another work-around which makes life even easier is to ask your computer service people to prepare Distiller settings exactly to your requirements as a separate folder which you can install as default in your Distiller settings. That way you just drag-n-drop your files onto the Distiller icon in the Dock and get perfect press quality PDFs in no time.
It is worth remembering that we are mostly end-users, not developers or technicians. Remembering this saves a lot of heart-ache. I call it the Renaissance Man dilemma - if you spend to much time chasing too many things your main goal is not achieved. Leonardo da Vinci was famous for not finishing his projects, because he always got distracted by exciting technical solutions that he stumbled upon while working...
This is more in response to Angiomans thread than to Barbara's comment now, but I assume he followed Dragon's invitation to this thread.
Cheers everybody - it is really exciting to share things with people who have similar experiences.
