Postgresql/EDB Stored Procedure Universe Connection

I'm trying to define a new connection for a Stored Procedure Universe against our EnterpriseDB Postgresql database, but EnterpriseDB doesn't show up as one of the Middleware options for defining the new Connection.  Anyone know how to enable EnterpriseDB/Postgres to allow Stored Procedure Universe Connections?

May be you can try creating a ODBC connection and then use the ODBC connection.

  • How to use optional prompts with stored procedure universe?

    Hi Experts,
    Iu2019m working on stored procedure universe in BO XI 3.0 SP2 FP2.5 with oracle at back end. My requirement is that I have to pass 5 optional prompts in the report and we have to pass these prompts through open document link. Please tell if this can be worked out on stored procedure universe?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Try with OpenDoc syntax as follows.
    http://<servername>:<port>/OpenDocument/opendoc/<plat
    formSpecific>?iDocID=****&sIDType=CUID&sType=wid/rpt&lsM/lsS/lsRPROMPTNAME=[V1],[V2]&sDocName=reportname&sRefresh=Y/N
    where
    server name: cms server name
    port: portno
    <platformspecific>=: for java -> openDocument.jsp
                                      for .net -> opendocument.aspx
    idocid,sDocName & cuid -> we can get report properties ( goto info view -> select report -> right click -> properties i.e. doc id, cuid and report name)
    sType -> type of report i.e webi or deski ...
    lsS -> to pass single prompt value
    lsM -> to pass multiplle values to prompt
    lsR -> range of values ....
    Note: Here prompt name should be same as the one which we used in the report. Use + if there is blank space.

  • Using Stored Procedure Universe in Reports

    Hi Friends,
    I got some issues using SP's in Universe and WebI Report.
    Case #1:
    Can we execute dynamic SQL using stored procedure universe..?
    I use SQL server as the DB for my reports.I created a SP which will execute on getting a input value from the user.This input value will frame the SQL dynamically in the SP.for executing the dynamic SQL i use sp_executesql inside the SP.The SP wexecutes successfuly in the DB but when i try executing it in the Universe i get a error message as follows: "Exception : DBD,[Microsoft][SQL SErver Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax  nesr 'FROM'.State:42000"
    The script i used for creating SP for your reference:
    CREATE PROCEDURE P_S_GetCodeValueList
              @s_table nvarchar(75)
    as
    begin
              declare @s_sqlCommand nvarchar(1000)
              declare @s_tablename nvarchar(75)
              declare @s_code nvarchar(75)
              set @s_tablename=@s_table
              set @s_code = '*'
              set @s_sqlCommand= 'SELECT ' + @s_code + ' FROM ' + @s_tablename
              exec sp_executesql @s_sqlCommand
    end
    Case #2:
    AIl also tried creating reports using the SP Universe which needs to get the parameter when the user refesh the report.
    But every time the report is refreshed the report fetches the data which was produced when the SP is executed in the Universe for the first time.
    I need to get the prompt in the report , to which the user could give a value and the SP gets executed for that value.
    Is there any option in BO to do this?
    It will be very helpful if you could give me some work arounds on this.
    Regards,
    Sugumar

    Hi Sugumar,
    I can answer you for your 2nd question:
    When you create the Stored procedure in the Universe and test it on retreiving data by inserting variable input you can check if the user could insert new value for the SP parameters.
    Hope this helps!

  • Stored Procedure Universe with Webi and Xcelcius

    Business Objects XI 3.0, Xcelcius 2008
    Created a stored procedure Universe on top of SQL Server 2005.  The stored procedure inserts a row into a table, and works fine when calling it from SQL Server server.  When I call it from Webi it wraps a transaction around the call and rolls it back after executing it.
    Are the new Stored Procedure Universes in 3.0 meant to be only "read only" and don't allow inserts/updates/deletes commands in the stored procedures they execute ? Seems a little short sighted if they are.
    Thanks,

    Keith,,
    absolutely with universe designer you can never use such like those procedures, you can not use insert or update statements on those procedure, it will give you errors.
    but in xcelsius, you can do it with another layer

  • Unable to create object from stored procedure universe

    Dear All Experts,
    I am facing a problem on unable to create object dimensions on a Stored procedure universe. Fyi, I have successfully insert a stored procedure ('SP_Sales') with input parameter (@date) into universe (Universe_1). But I unable create any object based on the the stored procedured ('SP_Sales') due to it show nothing from the Edit Select Statement of 'Object1', empty for Tables nd columns windows.
    Thefore, i unable to drag data in WEBI when i select univese as "Universe_1", it will not sure any object. Please advise.
    I am using XI4.0, MSSQL2008.

    Hi ,
    You wont be able to edit the object definitions.
    u2022 Designer generates one table per selected stored procedure (or many
    tables if multiple result sets) and one object per column returned by a
    stored procedure.
    u2022 The result set structure is determined when you describe the function.

  • Stored Procedure Universe Issues

    Working in version 3.1 SP1 Fix pack 1.8 and created some simple stored procedures to use in the universe and everything worked fine but then due to changing requirements added additional logic to the stored procedures (SQL 2005 database) for the report to include additional prompts and mulitple selects within the code.  With these changes, have encountered multiple errors when trying to insert them in the universe or when we are able to insert them in to the universe then no data ever returns from the new stored procedures even though correct execute statements are being created on the SQL Server and they work on SQL Server and in other BI tools.  Has anyone else encountered this or know of any limitations using stored procedures in universes?

    How do I obtain a resultset from a Java Stored Procedure?
    My stored procedure, deployed in Oracle8i, has Database package as sample.Have published setConnection() and getDept() methods.
    Code for Java Stored Procedure:

    if my statement is unknown, i.e, it might return a combination of updates and resultsets, how do I go about processing the result?
    Please advise!!

    Hi kkirk,
    I found the post you mentioned.Well it dates back to November 1999 - "Problem returning resultset or ARRAY from java stored proc" by Stuart Popejoy ([email protected]).Too bad, it is still not solved!!
    I am not very good at PL/SQL.However, it would still be helpful, if you could post the code here, or at my email address.
    Meanwhile, I was trying this during the week-end.There seems to be a glimmer of hope!!
    Let me know, if this makes sense :
    CallableStatement cs = connection.prepareCall("begin open ? for select * from dept; end");
    try {
    cs.registerOutParameter(1,OracleTypes.CURSOR);
    ResultSet res = ((OracleCallableStatement)cs).getCursor(1);
    while (res.next()) {
    //get the values
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStacktrace();
    However, I am getting an exception trace

  • JDBC Sender adapter - Oracle - Stored Procedure - Error

    Hello,
    Need few clarifications on JDBC sender adapter and stored procedures when connecting to Oracle DB.
    My scenario is, Oracle to SAPBW. So in sender JDBC adapter, we have used a SP having multiple SQL statements it, esp. one of the SELECT statment having Joins on a table and View.
    My questions are,
    1) Is it possible to have more SQL statements in SP for Sender JDBC?
    2) Is the SP of Oracle DB returns resultset or cursor?
    I have tried in searching the forum perticularly for connecting to Oracle as Sender and below like said  that there is a limitation of XI JDBC when connecting to Oracle.
    Executing an Oracle Stored Procedure from Sender JDBC adapter
    So please clarify the doubts and help me.
    With regards,
    Jilan

    Hi Jilan,
    Unlike what was mentioned in the link given by you that oracle returns cursor and not resultset is not completely true. It may be difficult but certainly not impossible.

  • Oracle Stored Procedure call in a Derived Table?

    Can a statement that defines derived table in the Designer contain a call to an Oracle Stored Proc? The proc takes one varchar2 parameter and returns a result set that consists of one field of several records and is currently implemented via sys_refcursor (return type is flexible as long as it allows to pass the result set back)
    Is there any difference between BOXI R2 and R3.0 regarding to the matter?

    Hi there,
    In XI R 3 you can now created a special universe to use stored procedures.A stored procedure universe is a special universe that enables Web Intelligence users to access stored procedures residing in the database. In BusinessObjects XI Release 3, you can use stored procedures with Desktop Intelligence and with universes in Designer. You also benefit from universes that contain stored procedures for Crystal Reports and Web Intelligence.
    XI R 2 no can do.
    Hope this helps

  • SQLJ and Java Stored Procedures

    Hi,
    Am very sorry, if I am taxing you too much with Java Stored Procedures!!
    However, I have struggling with it for more than 3 days or so.So please bear with me
    I am facing a peculiar problem on the subject.
    I have deployed a Java Stored Procedure using Connection name as "JDBC" through JDev.
    My client calls the Stored procedure getDept as follows:
    int deptNo = 0;
    String deptName = null,
    deptLoc = null;
    #sql {
    call sample.getDept( :out deptNo,
    :out deptName,
    :out deptLoc)
    In my project properties , in SQLJ tab, when I select "JDBC" as my connectionName, and leave the ContextName blank(i.e. DefaultContext), I get the following error :
    Error: [26] Not Found: SAMPLE.GETDEPT There is no stored procedure with this name
    When I leave the ConnectionName as blank (which I suppose means donot do online checking!!), it compiles OK.
    Howvever, it is not able to run my SQLJ file!!
    Cannot figure out why this is happening.Please help!!
    TIA

    Looks like Java stored procedure don't support the return of result sets to the client. Given the complexity and non-generic 'cursor ref' approach that Oracle has always implemented, I guess it is not too surprising. I suggest throwing the select into a work table and pulling the rows from there. If you are in a COM capable environment, you can use 0040 to get back a Dynaset, but be aware, it is live!
    Good luck.

  • How to invoke Oracle stored procedures in Web Intelligence Custom SQL ?

    Hi,
    Referring to some older posts, I see that there is a work around to invoke a stored procedure to return results for a Web Intelligence report. Its been posted for calling a MS SQL stored proc, whereas the mentioned method does not seem to work for an Oracle Stored Procedure.
    Steps I followed:
    a) This is the parameter I have added in the oracle.sbo file => <Parameter Name="Force SQLExecute">Procedures</Parameter>
    b) My stored procedure code is as follows:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE get_emp_details(var_first_name OUT VARCHAR) AS
    BEGIN
    SELECT first_name INTO var_first_name
    FROM EMP_DETAILS_VIEW
    WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID = 100;
    END;
    c) Custom SQL code I added in my Webi report:
    set nocount on;
    /* SELECT
    EMP_DETAILS_VIEW.FIRST_NAME
    FROM
    EMP_DETAILS_VIEW
    exec get_emp_details;
    On trying to validate the SQL it gives me the following error message: "The SQL query has 0 instead of 1 columns.(WIS 10810)"
    Has anyone been able to successfully call an Oracle Stored procedure using the above method ?
    Version of BO: XI R3 SP2
    Oracle version: 11gR2
    PS: I am aware that web intelligence since XI R3.1 does allow use of a dedicated Stored Procedure Universe. I would want to know if it could
    be made to run in a normal Universe(not a stored procedure Universe)
    Thanks for your time and inputs.
    Regards,
    Jez

    EXECUTE is a SQL Plus command. You can directly call SP in PL/SQL
    DECLARE
        modif number;
    BEGIN
    select data_length into modif from user_tab_columns where table_name='CONTROL' and column_name='POSITION';
    IF modif < 10 THEN
        droptable('CONTROL');
        execute immediate('CRETAE TABLE CONTROL ....';

  • Weblogic 6.1 & Oracle Java Stored Procedures

    Hi all
    I need to access a EJB deployed into Weblogic 6.1 (It's a mail sender EJB) when an event occurs in a Oracle 8.1.7 DataBase (when a table were updated).
    I think the only way to do it is firing a trigger, this trigger uses a Java Stored Procedure that connects with the EJB via JNDI.
    And here comes the problem:
    must I load the weblogic.jar (25M) into the DataBase through loadjava??
    There is no a way to include jars in the Oracle classpath??
    Please help
    Thanks in advance.
    David.

    Hi,
    I want to ask you one thing:
    Once the procedure is called is it not executing at the database?The Oracle process handling it(Procedure).So wont that be able to call the trigger as it works in the (Oracle)environment.
    So where does the importing of the java classes(Object) is related to
    the Trigger invocation....

  • How to improve stored procedure performance?

    hi,
    Suppose I have a stored procedure which contains 30 insert/update statements. How do I know Stored Procedure is slowly running or don't have any performance issue? how to improve performance?
    Thanks in advance.
    Anujit Karmakar Sr. Software Engineer

    Stored Procedures Optimization Tips
    Use stored procedures instead of heavy-duty queries.
    This can reduce network traffic, because your client will send to server only stored procedure name (perhaps with some parameters) instead of large heavy-duty queries text. Stored procedures can be used to enhance security and conceal underlying data objects
    also. For example, you can give the users permission to execute the stored procedure to work with the restricted set of the columns and data.
    Include the SET NOCOUNT ON statement into your stored procedures to stop the message indicating the number of rows affected by a Transact-SQL statement.
    This can reduce network traffic, because your client will not receive the message indicating the number of rows affected by a Transact-SQL statement.
    Call stored procedure using its fully qualified name.
    The complete name of an object consists of four identifiers: the server name, database name, owner name, and object name. An object name that specifies all four parts is known as a fully qualified name. Using fully qualified names eliminates any confusion about
    which stored procedure you want to run and can boost performance because SQL Server has a better chance to reuse the stored procedures execution plans if they were executed using fully qualified names.
    Consider returning the integer value as an RETURN statement instead of an integer value as part of a recordset.
    The RETURN statement exits unconditionally from a stored procedure, so the statements following RETURN are not executed. Though the RETURN statement is generally used for error checking, you can use this statement to return an integer value for any other reason.
    Using RETURN statement can boost performance because SQL Server will not create a recordset.
    Don't use the prefix "sp_" in the stored procedure name if you need to create a stored procedure to run in a database other than the master database.
    The prefix "sp_" is used in the system stored procedures names. Microsoft does not recommend to use the prefix "sp_" in the user-created stored procedure name, because SQL Server always looks for a stored procedure beginning with "sp_"
    in the following order: the master database, the stored procedure based on the fully qualified name provided, the stored procedure using dbo as the owner, if one is not specified. So, when you have the stored procedure with the prefix "sp_" in the
    database other than master, the master database is always checked first, and if the user-created stored procedure has the same name as a system stored procedure, the user-created stored procedure will never be executed.
    Use the sp_executesql stored procedure instead of the EXECUTE statement.
    The sp_executesql stored procedure supports parameters. So, using the sp_executesql stored procedure instead of the EXECUTE statement improve readability of your code when there are many parameters are used. When you use the sp_executesql stored procedure to
    executes a Transact-SQL statements that will be reused many times, the SQL Server query optimizer will reuse the execution plan it generates for the first execution when the change in parameter values to the statement is the only variation.
    Use sp_executesql stored procedure instead of temporary stored procedures.
    Microsoft recommends to use the temporary stored procedures when connecting to earlier versions of SQL Server that do not support the reuse of execution plans. Applications connecting to SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 2000 should use the sp_executesql system
    stored procedure instead of temporary stored procedures to have a better chance to reuse the execution plans.
    If you have a very large stored procedure, try to break down this stored procedure into several sub-procedures, and call them from a controlling stored procedure.
    The stored procedure will be recompiled when any structural changes were made to a table or view referenced by the stored procedure (for example, ALTER TABLE statement), or when a large number of INSERTS, UPDATES or DELETES are made to a table referenced by
    a stored procedure. So, if you break down a very large stored procedure into several sub-procedures, you get chance that only a single sub-procedure will be recompiled, but other sub-procedures will not.
    Try to avoid using temporary tables inside your stored procedure.
    Using temporary tables inside stored procedure reduces the chance to reuse the execution plan.
    Try to avoid using DDL (Data Definition Language) statements inside your stored procedure.
    Using DDL statements inside stored procedure reduces the chance to reuse the execution plan.
    Add the WITH RECOMPILE option to the CREATE PROCEDURE statement if you know that your query will vary each time it is run from the stored procedure.
    The WITH RECOMPILE option prevents reusing the stored procedure execution plan, so SQL Server does not cache a plan for this procedure and the procedure is recompiled at run time. Using the WITH RECOMPILE option can boost performance if your query will vary
    each time it is run from the stored procedure because in this case the wrong execution plan will not be used.
    Use SQL Server Profiler to determine which stored procedures has been recompiled too often.
    To check the stored procedure has been recompiled, run SQL Server Profiler and choose to trace the event in the "Stored Procedures" category called "SP:Recompile". You can also trace the event "SP:StmtStarting" to see at what point
    in the procedure it is being recompiled. When you identify these stored procedures, you can take some correction actions to reduce or eliminate the excessive recompilations.
