Weblogic 6.1 & Oracle Java Stored Procedures

Hi all
I need to access a EJB deployed into Weblogic 6.1 (It's a mail sender EJB) when an event occurs in a Oracle 8.1.7 DataBase (when a table were updated).
I think the only way to do it is firing a trigger, this trigger uses a Java Stored Procedure that connects with the EJB via JNDI.
And here comes the problem:
must I load the weblogic.jar (25M) into the DataBase through loadjava??
There is no a way to include jars in the Oracle classpath??

I want to ask you one thing:
Once the procedure is called is it not executing at the database?The Oracle process handling it(Procedure).So wont that be able to call the trigger as it works in the (Oracle)environment.
So where does the importing of the java classes(Object) is related to
the Trigger invocation....

Some minor issues arose during installation of C/C++ environment. I use MS Visual Studio 6 and it works just fine. Also you have to be very observant when modifying "procCallJSP.bat" file where SETing environment variables.
I found some flaw in Pro*C "procCallJSP.pc" script. During the execution of "procCallJSP.exe", when you provide not numeric argumet at the command prompt (eg. ` ) it puts the program to infinite loop. It needs an additional check to eliminate such kind of typing. The change needs to applied at line # 142 in "procCallJSP.pc". Other then that it works OK.

I am able to use UTL_FILE from PL/SQL to write to /data/oracle, so I know that init.ora has the correct UTL_FILE_DIR settings (if this matters). Similar Java code works fine on my desktop. Ideas?

Help with use of Java Stored Procedures to invoke Java Code within Applicat

Good afternoon everyone
Our development team is looking for some assistance/validation of a design strategy we are deploying for a client. Let me first layout the environment and then the design issue at hand:
Business User Workstation component: Oracle SQL*Developer 1.5.x
Reporting Tool: Actuate e.Spreadsheet A10
Application Web UI: J2EE application developed with Eclipse
Application Scripting: Application has a scripting component whereby business users can write Oracle PL/SQL to perform many of the functions that are available in the Web UI, but can be batched up or repeated several times.
Application Server WebLogic 9.2.3 (client constraint)
Database Serve: Oracle 11g, Release 11.1.0.7
Lots of other stuff included but irrelevant for this conversation.
Here's the scenario in question:
1.     Through the scripting solution, the application user must use PL/SQL to invoke functionality within the Web UI. All PL/SQL that the application user creates does not contain any SQL. Instead our security model mandates that “pre-defined” routines will perform all of the SQL operations against the database; the application user simply invokes the stored procedures of functions to perform activities in the database.
2.     There is a component of the scripting application that facilitates the creation of reports. In our application, we are using Actuate’s e.Spreadsheet Engine to create the report and format the report based on a template. The template is provided as input, as well as other data items, into Actuate for processing. The net result is the report is created by the Actuate e.Spreadsheet engine in pdf format and then sent back to the user for distribution to other users in the company.
3.     The Actuate e.Spreadsheet engine consists of one or more JAR files within the Application Server framework. The Web UI utilizes these JAR files as well to perform report generation and data manipulation activities. In the case of the reporting functionality, the pdf report that is generated by Actuate is returned into either the Web UI or into the scripting component for persistence in the database. The mechanism exists to create multi-step jobs that can create multiple reports in one run.
4.     So to facilitate the above, we are creating one or more Java Stored Procedures that will mediate the communication between the PL/SQL the user’s create and the Java components that are required for business processing. PL/SQL will invoke one or more Java Stored Procedures. Then the Java Stored Procedures invoke Actuate e.Spreadsheet, generate the report, saves the report in the database and returns control back to the invoking procedure.
So the question is: Is this a viable and correct use of Oracle Java Stored Procedures. What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing so? Any security issues or potholes that you can think of? Tuning issues for the JVMs? Any white papers that you can think of?

So are you planning on loading the entire e.Spreadsheet engine into the database server's JVM?
If so, I would expect that to work, but I expect that you'd have some performance issues. I'd expect that the process of building these PDFs is going to be relatively expensive. Tuning the database server's JVM tends to be rather more challenging than tuning JVM's in an app server.
If not, I'm not sure how the Java stored procedure would invoke the e.Spreadsheet engine on the application server. It is possible to use Oracle AQ to send a JMS message, but I don't think you can use the standard J2EE JMS APIs-- I think you'd have to use Oracle's AQ interface.

Jdbc and java stored procedures

Hi all,
I am new to Oracle Java Stored Procedures but I am interested in knowing to which extent is object passing supported.
Can I send any kind of object to a java stored procedure? And back from the procedure? Anybody knows any good resources online about Java Stored Procedures and JDBC?
I also saw that to pass the string back you need to specify java.lang.string, how would I do in order to pass back a user defined object, do I have to register the class in Oracle before (and if yes, how?)or is the classpath enough?

perhaps I didn't understand exactly what you meant with "publish", AFAIK you have to expose the java class (i.e. RowCounter) by using

or else you cannot access the java class you loaded on the server, and that's where my questions arose. What if I am passing an object, let's say myObject, shouldn't I use the STRUCT mapping then or something like that?
Or, could you clarify what do you mean by publishing to SQL, I just need to access the class from jdbc, not from PL/SQL or others, but as I understand to call the class from JDBC I need to call the function or procedure that calls the class and then I could call it from PL/SQL as well...

Memory leak in java stored procedure

I use one simple example to test java stored procedure but i have met one serious problem. If it's not my fault, there exists serious bug of Oracle JVM. And the problem make it more like a toy.

When the test.sql is executed , I use top tool to monitor the oracle process. I found the column SIZE value is gradually climbed. When reaching some point test.sql lose connection with oracle server. It always use out all the memory of Linux system.
If the test is correct, I think oracle java stored procedure is just like one toy.

Oracle Java stores procedure call for MQ Series

I am trying to use MQ Series Queues from Oracle Java stored procedure through JMS. Can anyone guide me how to do that?. I mean what jar files I supposed to load into data base apart from my JMS client Code?.

Oracle JMS client libraries work only with Oracle AQ/JMS. These will not work with MQ series.
You might have to load MQ series JMS client libraries.

The e-commerce site will have a separate Oracle database. Both database are Oracle 9i release 2 databases. The e-commerce site will be using BEA's Weblogic as its application server. I need to move data from the store db into the e-commerce db. The actual moving of the data is not the issue. The issue comes from needing to call several methods on a Stateless Session EJB, loaded on the Weblogic server, to perform backend processing. I wanted to make a JNDI call from a Java Stored Procedure but with Release 2, this option is no longer supported. The release notes (http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/htdocs/9idb2_java.html) indicated that the JVM now supports calling out to Servlets using HTTP Client from a Java Stored Procedure.
Has anyone done this? Is there any sample code available?

The program is erring out saying inconsistent data typpes.
This is happening during passing parameters.

you shouldn't be calling conn.close() and its not needed when using Server Side Internal driver. If you are calling conn.close, then .....

If you do call the close() method, be aware of the following:
All connection instances obtained through the defaultConnection() method, which actually all reference the same connection object, will be closed and
unavailable for further use, with state and resource cleanup as appropriate. Executing defaultConnection() afterward would result in a new connection
object.
Even though the connection object is closed, the implicit connection to the database will not be closed.

URGENT: Java stored procedure on oracle 92 database is not working

I am having an issue regarding java stored procedures. I have created a java class that uses the bouncycastleprovider ( bcprov-jdk13-141.jar ) to encrypt strings. I tested against the version of the java virtual machine that comes bundled with oracle and it works perfectly. I then used JDeveloper to load the class on the database with the resolve, noverify and order flags checked and it shows no errors but when I try to execute the stored procedure it throws the following exception:

I also did a select on the user_objects table and all the classes are in VALID status.
When I run my application using the java virtual machine that is located under C:\Oracle\oracli9i\jdk\jre\bin directory it works fine but when I try to execute on the database it won't work. I found a bug that was if the jce1_2_1.jar file existed in the C:\Oracle\oracli9i\jdk\jre\lib\ext directory ( even if it's extension is renamed ) it won't work because the certification file had expired but I don't know if this has anything to do with this error.
Am I missing something?
Please I need an urgent solution to this problem.

Thanks for the reply. Actually I have seen that post before creating this thread. I thought that I could make use of java mail to work around this problem. I created a java class that succesfully sends mail to SSL host. I tried to call this java class from pl-sql through java stored procedure. That did not work
So, is this not supported in Oracle ? Please note that I have tested this in both 9i and 11g , in both the versions I got the error. You can refer to the code in the above post.

Java stored procedure problem(oracle db)

we have a java stored procedure with the following definition, and that works as we want it to:

The problem is that we've recently discovered that the 32767 size restiriction on the input parameter varchar2 is too small. I don't want to rewrite the entire Java procedure. I figured the simplest (or at least temporary)solution would be to have the Java procedure accept a CLOB, convert that clob to a string and continue as it would. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if the following would be possible:

Java stored procedure in Oracle 8i

Hi,
I read in the whitepaper of Oracle "Stored Procedure Tutorial", I have a little problem understanding the following syntax in the example enclosed, please help.
In Java environment the method:
public static void assignEMailAddress(Connection conn, int eno, String fname, String lname) throws Exception;
this method take 4 parameters, but when it is public to SQL, the parameter is ignored!
Is this understood by the DBMS?
Is this Connection-typed parameter must ALWAYS be the first one in the proceudre list or the procedure list can be in any order?
The tutorial is given in Oracle 8i, Lite, we will be using the real Entreprise Oracle 8i, does it make any difference in how we should load java stored procedure?

Mapping between Java types and pl/sql types
can only be done for standard Java datatypes.
You cannot publish a java procedure accepting a Connection variable to PLSQL.

Java Stored Procedure with LOB as input parameter (oracle 9i 9.2.0.6)

Is there a way to pass CLOB as input and output as part of java stored proceudre in oracle 9i (9.2.0.6)?
I have to perform some data conversion on the CLOB data in java program and return the converted CLOB as output.

The reason why I want to use java for conversion is because, I want to perform base64 encoding decoding on the content stored in CLOB column. I tried to use by chunking the data into smaller pieces and apply the base64 encoding, but when I decode the CLOB using base64, I am not getting the same data. Later when I read about how base64 encoding happens I realized chunking the data in CLOB doesn't work. That's when I started to diggin how I can pass CLOB to java stored procedures.

Does anyone know if Oracle XE supports Java Stored Procedures.

Unfortunately you misunderstood me. I didn't call Oracle XE crippled, Yes, I did misunderstand. Apologies.
Bottom line - JMS is not extant. JMS and AQ are not quite the same thing.
AQ was developed back in early Oracle8 (8.0) (and possibly the late Oracle 7) days and seems to have been a pure PL/SQL implementation (probably with hooks at the C/C++ DB kernel level). The extensions that link to JMS came later.
Since JMS depends on Java, and since 'Java in the database' is not part of XE by design and well documented, I considered you comment
that JMS is not supported at all in Oracle XE or is at least
severly crippled.to be more than you apparently meant it to be,
AQ is 'supported' but lack of Java Stored Procs causes some limitations here as you have noted, as well as in Oracle Text and interMedia support.
I'd love to see Java in the database for future upgrades to XE.
